Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • How Can Offset be Determined for Trailer Tires on a Trailer
I do have a solution for you but we don't recommend using a spacer as that will cause your wheel to sit at a different location on your lugs. The offset of a wheel can be determined by measuring from the mounting surface of the wheel (where it mounts to your hub) to the inside and outside beads once the wheel has been removed from your trailer. The difference of these measurements tells you what your offset is. Most trailer tires have an offset of zero but if your wheel has a negative...

  • Can Trailer Wheels be Used on Vehicle
No, the wheels we sell are specifically intended for trailer applications and are not suitable for use on a vehicle, even if the bolt pattern matches. Trailer wheels differ in their amount of offset, which is the placement of the actual tire tread relative to the wheel center line. Trailer wheels often have no offset while vehicle wheels can have the offset required to correctly position the tire in the wheel well. Use only vehicle wheels on a vehicle and use only trailer wheels on a trailer. I...

  • Replacement Wheel and Tire For a 1965 Shasta Compact 13' Travel Trailer
The information I could find shows the 1965 Shasta Compact 13 would have come with 14" wheels like the Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20304. The tire size at the time would have been a F78-14 which would be a Castle Rock ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # LHCK201 with todays sizing. The conventional steel wheel will allow for a Baby Moon Wheel Cover # AM90086 in keeping with the retro look of the Shasta. Be sure to check the fitment in the event any of the running gear on your trailer...

  • Looking For 14" Wheel That Can Be Used With Baby Moon Hubcaps
Hello Svelan, thanks for getting in touch. We do have an option for you. The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20334 is a white 14" rim with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. It can be used with the Americana Baby Moon Trailer Wheel Center Cap # AM90086 which will look great if you are going for the white wall/throwback appearance. We can also do the wheel in black # AM20304 if you prefer that. Please just confirm that your trailer uses the standard 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. If there is...

  • Choosing a Trailer Rim with Positive Offset to Increase Side Clearance
Narrower tires and rims will certainly help you pick up some side clearance for fitting your boat trailer into your garage. A wheel with positive offset will also help by shifting the wheel's center closer to the trailer frame. Since you have 1-1/2-inches of extra clearance between the tires and trailer frame, 0.5-inch positive offset rim # AM20304 will give you a total of 1-inch additional clearance (1/2-inch on each side). Be sure to use only special trailer (ST) type tires on your boat...

  • Which 14" Trailer Wheels Can Use Hub Caps?
Hi Mike! The Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel - 14" x 5-1/2" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - White Powder Coat # AM20352 can use something like the Lionshead Trailer Wheel Center Cap w/ Snap-In Plug - 3.19" Pilot - Stainless Steel # LHCS102-SI60C, but there isn't a true hub cap for it. For something like the Americana Baby Moon Trailer Wheel Center Cap - Chrome-Plated Steel - Qty 1 # AM90086, you will want to pick between the three options I have listed below: Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel with...

  • Can The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20304 Be Used On A 1963 Ford Fairlane
The wheels we carry are designed for trailer use but if the specifications of the wheel align with the specs needed for the vehicle then you could still technically use them. The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20304 you referenced is a 14" diameter x 5-1/2" wide wheel with a 2.62" pilot hole and +0.5" offset. It requires a 1/2"-20 stud size and 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The 2,200lb capacity of the wheel would be more than enough to handle the weight of the vehicle. I recommend verifying...

The other option is the Dexstar # AM20334 which is exactly the same but has a White powder coat finish.

  • 14 Inch Diameter Trailer Wheel with 5-on-4-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern and 2-5/8 Pilot Diameter
Assuming that by 4.5 hole, you mean that your hub has a 5 lug on 4-1/2 inch bolt circle, we do indeed have a 14 inch diameter wheel that has a 2.62 (2-5/8) inch diameter pilot hole. The Dexstar 14 x 5-1/2 conventional steel wheel, part # AM20304 would work well for you. To confirm your bolt pattern, take a look at the FAQ article I've linked for you.

  • Availability of 14 inch Trailer Rim with Positive Offset
The largest positive offset 14 inch trailer rim is the part # AM20304 which has a 1/2 inch positive offset. Most trailer wheels have a zero offset or right at zero since it helps distribute the load of the trailer on the wheel. This wheel also has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. I attached a review video for this wheel for you to check out as well.

  • 14 Inch Trailer Wheel and Tire that Can Use Baby Moon Hub Caps
The baby moon hub caps such as # AM90086 only fit conventional steel wheels. For a 14 inch conventional steel wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern use # AM20304. This wheel has a positive 1/2 inch offset which means the tire will sit 1/2 inch closer to the trailer than a regular, zero offset wheel. This and other information is covered in the video I have linked. For the tire alone in 205/75-14 I recommend the Provider # TR20514. A tire shop can mount the tire to the wheel for a nominal...

The Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel with Offset - 14" x 5-1/2" Rim - 5 on 4-1/2 - Black # AM20304 you referenced is a conventional wheel that should work with most baby moons. We have baby moons # AM90086 that I can confirm as a fit that have a slightly smaller inner dimension of 9-1/4 inches. These are a fit for 13, 14, and 15 inch wheels. • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Trailer Wheel for a Little Guy 5x8 Silver Shadow
Your trailer probably does have conventional steel wheels or otherwise regular trailer wheels. To determine which wheel is the correct one for your trailer you will need to look at a few things. First you will want to look at the size of the existing wheels. You will need to measure the diameter of the wheel and the width from bead seat to bead seat. The tire has to be removed for the width. I can also determine the size of the wheel if you can tell me the tire size. You will also need...

This might be a case of the new wheel using a valve stem with a higher pressure rating, which could mean its diameter is larger and that could be why it is making contact with the trim ring. It could also be a case of the 50-year-newer wheel simply having a slightly different profile that causes...
