1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Today we're going to review the Americana 8 inch by 3 3/4 inch galvanized, steel trailer wheel with the 5 1 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. This wheel is a sturdy steel construction. It has nice galvanized finish all over the wheel to provide superior protection from rust and corrosion. Galvanized wheels are mainly used in marine applications like boat trailers or small watercraft trailers. This wheel is a high quality wheel. It meets the Department of Transportation specifications. A few specs on this.
We're going to measure the diameter, which is inside to inside, and the width which is also bead seed to bead seed or inside to inside. If we go on the diameter, we put a tape measure on it you can see 8 inches for the diameter, and the width, again inside to inside, you can see is going to be right at 3 3/4 inches. The bolt pattern on this is a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern and if you want to measure the bolt pattern on a wheel that's an odd number of lugs, in this case five, all you have to do is pick any hole, we'll start with this one, and then you measure across from this hole directly over to these holes. The trick is you measure from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of whichever hole you go to. We'll go from this hole to this hole. If I put the tape measure on it, center to furthest edge, you can see is 4 1/2 inches.
So, five on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. It does use a wheel lug size of 1/2 inch by 20. Weight capacity on this wheel is 910 pounds and the pilot hole diameter, the large hole here in the center of the wheel goes over the hub on your trailer, the diameter of that opening is 2.8 inches. That should do it for the review on the Americana 8 inch by 3 3/4 inch galvanized steel trailer wheel with the five on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern.

When it comes to galvanized wheels the finish can be rough. They are dipped in the galvanizing solution and allowed to drip dry which causes the finish to have imperfections. They tend to be on the inexpensive side.
