Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the CE Smith padlock style brackets for U-bolt spare tire carriers. So when it comes to trailers, not only boat trailers but just about any trailer in general, a lot of times they sit for awhile unattended and it's not uncommon for people to start poking around, up to no good, looking for things to take. And a spare tire is no exception. Now the one we have here today a kind of a general purpose kinda common tire, not really a big deal. Would someone target this one Probably not.
But you really can't go wrong by still locking it down. Cause you know how life works, whenever you would need it that is the time when someone would had run off with it. So just gives you a little bit of peace of mind there but the same holds true for these other trailer tires. Some of them are very nice have a really high dollar tire on it. Super nice aluminum rim.
And with something like that you definitely wanna take the extra step just to keep it secure while you're not around. And the thing that you can do to prevent that is use a lock, which we'll talk about here in a second because with just the spare tire carrier, like we have on here today, it's not gonna take anyone any time. They're just gonna need a wrench or a socket, pull the nuts off and the spare tire bracket is gonna drop down and they can run off with your tire. So a really simple solution to combat those issues is to use what's called these padlock brackets. They take no time at all to get in place and work very well.
So let's go ahead and see how they work. What you're gonna do is just remove your nuts off the spare tire carrier. I loosened mine up already. We'll pull them out of the way. And on my case, I had a lot of extra threads exposed.
So I just kind of put these spacers on that I had laying around the house just to kind of take up some of that, some of the threads. And you got a couple of different ways of doing this really, honestly you don't even have to remove the nuts if you don't want to. I think that's what I'm gonna do and that's because these actually thread on. So once he had both your brackets lined up, if you wanna put the nut back on, great, you don't have to, in my case, I'm just gonna run it back down just to be on the safe side. At this point, all we have left to do is take your favorite lock. On our case, I'm using a Master Lock commercial padlock, just put that in place. That's all there is to it. So I do feel like now that I have this in place and I'm looking at it that it is gonna do a pretty good job of, you know preventing someone from running off with your spare tire. Is it absolutely indestructible No, you know if someone really wanted the tire bad enough, they'd find a way around it and get it off. But generally speaking, you know this has got to keep somebody honest and you know there's people up to no good, probably just move on to the next guy that doesn't have a setup like this. Now I do wanna mention what we're talking about today is just the padlock brackets themselves. If you don't have a U-bolt style spare tire carrier, you are gonna need to pick that up as well as a padlock if you don't have one of those. The good thing is if you don't have any of these components, you can actually get the U-bolt style carrier and the brackets in one big kit. So it makes it convenient and kind of covers all your bases. And in my case, I got picked up the boat, I already had the the spare tire carrier on it without the brackets. And so I chose to just get the brackets, that way I can lock it down without having to buy a whole new kit. As far as the brackets themselves go, they are relatively thick actually, and there's zinc coated so that coating help keep them in good shape and hold up nicely in the weather. As far as locks go, I mean, you're gonna be able to use pretty much whatever one you want. You know, the, when these brackets are together they're not very thick. The hole is relatively large. I mean, the lock that I have here today is this part is 5/16ths in diameter. So kind of a more heavy duty lock, I chose to go with this Master Lock kind of just a good, old classic. You know, you can, you can rely on them. And what's nice about these is you can actually pick up multiple locks that are key alike. And we had some locks down at the property that we're kind of getting old and worn out anyways. So I figured why not just grab a few I have one for here. I have some for down there and I'll be able to use the same key. So the padlock brackets are designed to work with the CE Smith spare tire U-bolt type carriers but that's not to say they won't work with others as well. Really. The only thing you're gonna have to pay attention to is the thread pitch that you're a U-bolt type carrier has. These brackets will thread on to bolts that are half inch by 20, the right pitch. So as long as that's your scenario, these we'll thread on and chances are pretty good it'll work out for you. So at the end of the day, a really simple and economical way to make sure that your spare tire is secure to your trailer. And that'll finish up our look at the CE Smith padlock style brackets for U-bolt style spare tire carriers..

This set of heavy-duty brackets allows you to secure your spare trailer tire with a padlock (sold separately). They thread onto CE Smith U-bolt style carriers and deter theft of your tire. From the picture I was not sure how well this product would work, but it was so simple to install and ensures that the spare tire will remain on the trailer until I take it off. etrailer is an outstanding merchant to do business with.
IMO a MUST addition to your spare tire bracket carrier, so that you can have anti-theft protection all around. Just add padlock.
Be careful of some of the expert replies on etrailer. Jameson C gave a answer to a question of this bracket that was wrong. I gave second star because Kim (?) handled it well and gave me a full refund because there was conflicting information on it. She saved a customer by doing this. Thank you.
Hello, here's my review for the spare tire, mount and lock bracket for my boat. I ordered the longer mounting bracket because of the four inch tall trailer tubing, install worked out great and then installed my lock. etrailer has good prices and selection, Thanks.
This product is a must for boating
Spare tires are necessary and must be security mounted in a way that is accessible and locked
I use your company when i need things for my trailer.
These were returned for credit because the thread size is different on the trailer mount bolts. The return was easy and the refund amount was honored; much appreciated!
I bought a new trailer with a spare and existing u-bolt. I could not determine if the locking bracket fit the existing u-bolt. I ordered the bracket and sure enough it did not fit. I contacted customer service to verify that the 12 inch u-bolt on the website would fit the bracket I had already received. I was told it would. Just ordered their u-bolt.
Lots of good info on the website with dimensions for most areas of interest. A mention of hole diameter and thread type would have saved me a couple of weeks and a few dollars in shipping not to mention the time doing research.

All is good. Had a flat on the trailer nail and it was a little bit of a pain to undo both the locking bolt and the bolt just mounting the tire to the trailer but I dont have to worry about theft.
It’s says it has 1/2 20 threads. I special ordered u bolts to fit my spare with 1/2. 20 threads and then received these padlock brackets and they are for 3/8 or 7/16. I called etrailer and the lady said it would not be worth sending back because of shipping cost for me . So I’m out of money on these brackets. These are not 1/2 20 threads.

Hey Andrew, I talked with my tech support and went out and measured a few different brackets to confirm the thread count. All the ones I put hands on were the right thread count. Is it possible the shop that made you the u-bolts used the wrong setting? I know I have used the wrong dietap before and ruined a thread.
Excellent customer service, I had a part get lost by shipper and they had the part replaced and delivered immediately. Thank for the great service.
i received my order promptly. all parts were packaged properly. however, the c e smith pad lock didn’t have proper threading to fit the standard thread on wheel lug bolts. a trip to the hardware store and $5 dollars fixed the problem… the tire carrier appears to be well made…

It is because you ordered the etrailer brand item # e99045 spare tire carrier and this only fits the CE Smiths U-bolt-style spare tire carriers item # CE22007Z-11050-2 or item # CE22011Z-11050-2.

The lugs on the spare tire mounts are to large for the holes in the lock. Not sure if I am going to send them back or drill them out and tap a thread in them.

These arent meant to screw onto the studs, theyre meant to be used with a specific U-bolt style tire carrier like CE22007Z-11050-2 or # CE22011Z-11050-2.

All items showed up on projected date, however I am currently trying to find additional hardware to make the lug locks fit the tire carrier I purchased. One would expect that any lock sold by etrailer (1) to be accurate, would be sized to fit any carrier. I guess to better your product, you could offer multi size threaded lock,s or make all carrier studs the same size threads... To work w/ the locks of course.
This fit my pontoon trailer perfectly. I combined it with the C E Smith padlock brackets and had the spare tire mounted in ten minutes. I was able to use a master lock that is keyed to all the other master locks that I use on my boats and sheds, etc. Very satisfied with the quality, fit and price. I have always had good luck with etrailer.com for all of my boat trailers and utility trailer parts and when I need anything else I will certainly not hesitate to order from them.
This worked out so good.I did not know of such a bracket until I ran across it on Etrailer. Together with the CE Smith 12 1/4 inch spare tire bracket it was a perfect solution to mounting the spare tire on the front of my travel trailer.

Very clever! Great quality, although i expect that it will eventually rust, at which point i'll just get another one! Not a cheaper way to secure and lock a spare!

Still there. No rust!
We have used these padlock brackets before and have been very happy with them. For a small cost they offer additional security to the U-bolt style spare tire carriers. Etrailer's variety of stock and prompt shipping have made us return customers.
Worked great for locking down my spare tire for my utility trailer. I highly recommend this place for any of your trailer needs. I am a recurring customer and will continue to come here for all my trailer needs.
Should do the trick. Quick, east way to lock spare tire.

Great
Product performed as described. I would recommend this product to others. Installed a normal length master lock to secure tire to trailer.
Spare tire mount and lock fit and performed as advertised.
I specifically bought 1/2 x 20 threaded rod to use with these. And just like other people they are wrong size. These brackets are 3/8 maybe 7/16. I'm still going to use but I'll have to drill and tap to use with the threaded rod I already bought

Okay, so I have gotten down to the root of the problem. We had some expert answers that said the wrong diameter of the bolt holes for these brackets. I have gotten this information corrected and we are working on a return label for you. I am so sorry for the inconvenience, the correct size that these brackets will fit are 0.4375 inches.
