Double-Eye Dacromet Springs Diagram

Part Number A B C D
e28SR 12-5/8" 13-1/4" 25-1/4" 3"

If you're replacing a busted or rusted-out spring on your trailer - or if you've decided to upgrade to dacromet to avoid rusted-out springs down the line - the first thing you'll need to do is measure your existing leaf springs. Take a look at the measurements above. If these dimensions - and the weight rating - match what you currently have, you should be good to go.

Remember, though, your leaf springs can flatten a bit over time. And if you're measuring your spring while your trailer is fully loaded, the overall length that you get might be a bit more than what you need a brand new, unloaded spring to measure.

Rustproof Your Trailer Suspension with Dacromet

Double-Eye Diagram Dacromet

As you travel across highways and backroads, your trailer's leaf springs are going to corrode and flake over time. This is especially true if you have a boat trailer that's regularly submerged in water. Completely rusted-out springs on trailers are all too common, and these dacromet springs are a great solution to that problem.

Dacromet Versus Rusty Springs Comparison

Longer-lasting springs will save you money and are great for any trailer, but they are a must have for folks who live or play by the water. If you live on the coast, you're probably always rinsing the saltwater off of your trailer to try and keep rust at bay. If you're really worried, you might've even tried to repaint your springs or spray them down with rust inhibitors. But upgrading to these dacromet-coated leaf springs could cut down on or eliminate all of that maintenance, leaving you more time to spend out on the water.

Rust-resistant coatings are graded according to a salt spray rating. Basically, this rating shows the amount of time it takes for a material to show signs of corrosion when exposed to pure, continuous salt spray. We conducted our own salt spray test and found that this dacromet coating lasts up to 744 hours before it begins to deteriorate. Compare that to some other dacromet coatings out there that are rated at just 300 hours - or zinc coatings that don't last for even that long - and you can be sure these springs will last.

Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

  • Can the Leaf Springs Be Upgraded On a Lippert 3,500 Lb Axle
It is possible to upgrade the leaf springs on a trailer to a higher rated set but I do not recommend this as it can create a rough ride. The better option would be to install the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs part # TSS-107-40 for overslung or part # TSS-106-40 for underslung axles. These will offer both additional support without decreasing the ride quality. If you would still like for me to recommend a set of upgraded leaf springs, I'd need to know the unloaded length from eye to eye.

  • Locating Replacement Leaf Springs for Dexter D44 Tandem Axles and Recommended Upgrades
In order to find the right replacement leaf springs, you will need to raise the trailer up and take some measurements on one of the existing springs. This type of information isn't typically provided by trailer manufacturers and it's not something that can be determined by the axle capacity (many different leaf spring lengths could be used with 4,400 pound tandem axles). With all the weight lifted off the leaf springs, you will just need to measure their length (from the center of one...

  • Trailer Suspension Parts Needed to Increase Trailer Capacity from 7000 to 10000 lbs Gross Weight
Your best bet for upgrading the suspension on your trailer with 5,000 lb axles is to change out the springs from 1,750 lb capacity each to at least 2500 lb capacity each. Helper springs would not increase the capacity of your original suspension, they are designed to help your suspension handle loads up to the rated capacity of the suspension. If your trailer suspension is built with double eye springs you will need to measure the springs with no load on them from the spring eye center...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for a 2018 Jayco Eagle HT 28.5RSTS
Hey Ken! I would be happy to help you but I need some more information. There's no database that will tell me what size or capacity spring you have on your 2018 Jayco Eagle HT 28.5RSTS so what you're going to have to do is jack up one side of the trailer and measure one of the springs you want replaced from one eye to the other. The springs will flatten out over years of use and this is the only accurate way to determine the replacement. Additionally, if you could take a look at one of...

  • Recommended Leaf Springs for 4,400 lb Axle Based on Axle Position and Hanger Locations
The typical springs for the AL-KO 4,400 axles are one of two lengths. If you have the 25-1/4 inch length, then you will want the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles # e28SR, but if you have the 26 inch springs, you will want the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles # e27SR. The width will be the same so you will want to determine the length based on the position of the axle using dimension A and D in the attached photos and the axle position based on the hanger...

  • Choosing the Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for a Weekend Warrior Toy Hauler
In order to choose the correct replacement leaf springs for a trailer you'll need to know both the unloaded length and axle capacity. The number of springs is not relevant so long as you choose a set that matches the axle capacity as springs can have different thicknesses therefore different weight capacities not necessarily dependent on the number of leaves. A few other things to keep in mind is that leaf springs can lengthen over time and you need to replace them in pairs. I have attached...

  • Replacement 26 Inch Long Double Eye Leaf Spring for Travel Trailer
The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles # e22YR looks to be exactly what you need. This measures 26" from center eye to center eye and is 1-3/4" wide. This is rated for 2,000 lbs so when you replace both springs together they are rated for 4,000 lbs (check to make sure this is rated high enough for your axle specs). Be sure to replace the leaf spring on both sides of the same axle to ensure that you have a consistent ride quality.

  • Solution for Needing Replacement Leaf Spring for Pontoon Boat Trailer
Hey Brad, the capacity of leaf spring we offer that best matches what you need would be the 4,000 lb axle springs like the galvanized part # e48SR. Now this is a longer spring than what you need but we don't have any springs that match the length you need regardless of capacity so only option would be having to have the spring mounts moved. Which will require some welding.

  • Do I Need to Move the Spring Hangers When Upgrading My Axle?
Yes, you can Brian. You won't need to move your spring hangers to upgrade your axles. If you could tell me what the hub to hub distance is and what the spring seat measurements are on your current axle I can recommend a replacement. I'll also need to know what lug pattern your wheels are and what kind of brakes you have. If you could give me the dimensions of your leaf springs I can recommend replacements for those as well. • Replacement Leaf Spring Replacing Dexter 072-078-00 For 4,400 lb Axle
The Dexter 072-078-00 is a 2,200 lb capacity leaf spring. You can use a higher capacity leaf spring, however it won't increase the capacity of your trailer as the axle is still rated for that max capacity of 4,400 lbs. My recommendation for a replacement is the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e28SR which is rated for 2,500 lbs but is the same length. • Replacement Leaf Spring for Trailer with Dexter 4,400 lb Axle
I checked your order notes and the leaf springs you bought last year were the part # e28SR which are for 5k axles. Since this is over the capacity of your axle failure would not have been caused by over loading the trailer assuming you stayed under that figure. Were you on off-road terrain? It's also possible the failure was a fluke or you are overloading the capacity of your trailer.

A leaf spring like the part # e28SR has a distance of 25-1/4 inches between the spring eyes. I did some checking and the hanger kit you would want is the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APS4. And the distance between the spring hanger centers should be 24-7/8 inches.

If you are replacing the springs and hangers you will need to use the same center to center dimension as the original mounting brackets. These springs are designed for a 4,500 pound axle. • Is it Ok to Replace Factory Leaf Springs With a Higher Capacity Option?
Though I do tend to warn people about the ride getting stiffer when upping the capacity of their leaf springs, you are correct in that you will technically never be fully "unloaded". I do have to mention that this could still happen, but very minimally. With that being said, this is something that is done pretty often. Whether this is due to the factory springs not handling the weight very well, or wearing out over time, upgrading to a slightly heavier capacity is perfectly fine. The 6-Leaf...

The closest option we have is the etrailer Dacromet coated part # e28SR which is also 25-1/4 inches long but has a 2,500 lb per spring capacity. Since you have a 5,200 lb axle the next higher rated spring would be the part # e78SR which is a 6k axle rated leaf spring that is also 25-1/4 inches long and Dacromet coated.
