Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Lippert AP Kit

Jake Hi there, tandem-axle trailer owners. Today we're gonna be taking a look at Lippert's wet bolt kit for the Road Armor Equalizer. Before we install our equalizers, we're just gonna take it out on the test course and see how it operates. And there you can see it going over. It's a pretty noisy setup, I mean, there are a lotta squeaks and stuff. It could be some from his weight distribution system that he has installed, but we'll find out after we install our new equalizers.

Now we're gonna go back out on the test course with our new equalizers installed. Here you can see 'em in action, and right away I can notice that a lot of the squeaks and noises that we had before are now gone. We're still gettin' a couple of pops from the weight distribution system that's installed, but it is significantly quieter than what it was before. The wet bolt kit here is designed to work with Lippert's Road Armor. It does have a thicker shackle, so they are heavy duty shackles, so you're gonna get an upgrade there, it's gonna outlast your factory setup.

But they're also specifically designed to work with the Road Armor. 'Cause the Road Armor will work with trailer setups, with axles between 3,500 and 8,000 pounds, so they actually fit quite a large amount of trailers. But the dimensions are gonna be a little bit different. You can see that our Lippert one, or the Road Armor there, is a little bit closer together, the distance there. And then the distance from the hanger down, it's a little bit lower than what the factory one is here.

So to compensate for those different dimensions, the shackle links here are a little bit longer than what you would have on your factory setup to compensate for that. That'll give you a similar ride type and quality of what you had before, but you're gonna get that upgraded Road Armor dampening along with heavier-duty components. And since it's a wet bolt kit, you'll be able to grease all of your bushings. Now the Road Armor does have bronze bushings pre-installed in it, so you'll be able to grease those right away. Now, the wet bolt kit does not come with additional bushings, though.

It does come with enough wet bolts to be able to install it into your spring eyes on each side, but it doesn't come with the bushing. So if you're wanting to upgrade your spring eyes with the wet bolts, I would highly recommend pressing out your old bushings and putting in new bronze bushings. And you can buy packs of those here at etrailer to get new bushings. They are gonna be a 9/16 inner diameter with an 11/16 outer diameter by 1 3/4 for the size of bushing that you'll wanna use with this. I highly recommend it, because if you we're to just put your wet bolts in with the regular plastic bushings there, it would be okay as long as you don't grease the bushing, but if you we're to lubricate a plastic bushing like this, the grease can actually deteriorate these plastic bushings and cause them to prematurely fail. If you go with a bronze bushing however though, a greased bronze bushing that is continually maintained and greased when you use your trailer will outlast your plastic bushings here significantly. We can already see that the factory one on here, and this is a 2022 trailer, and it's still 2022. So we haven't even made it through the year yet and these plastic ones are already starting to fail. If your bushings completely fail, you can oblong the openings where your bushings install, and if that opening oblongs, you really can't do anything about it. You gotta replace the component. 'Cause if you put a new bushing in then and there's gaps on there, that new bushing's gonna fail pretty fast. So to prevent you from having to replace your equalizer, or a leak springs because of the bushings that have failed and oblonged the holes, I would recommend going with these bronze kits and grease them. And that completes our look at Lippert's wet bolt kit for the Road Armor Equalizer..

Replace your tandem-axle trailer's suspension attachment parts with this hardware kit. Works with Road Armor equalizers. Includes shackles, wet bolts, and hardware.

The kit came quickly and with no damage, but it was just a box of bolts, nuts, and shackles. No instructions or spec sheets with important information like torque values for the nuts. There was also no link to this information on the product page. I had to call etrailer tech support to get that information. Took off one "star" for lack of product instructions and specs. I recommend that etrailer include this information in the shipping box or have a link on the product page for download.

After a near-failure of my factory load equalizer and shackles, I upgrades to wet bolts and heavier shackles with a RoadArmor load equalizer. Great products making a world of difference in my towing experience.

Installed with Road Armor load equalizers on my 2022 Jayco 25RB. The factory components are of course what they are to meet price point compared to the higher end product lines. If you tow your lightweight camper a good bit, this is a relatively inexpensive and worthwhile upgrade that will smooth out your overall ride and is much kinder to your trailer on rough roads. Glad I did it.

CORRECT PRODUCT AND FAST SHIPPING!

Great heavy duty product. This gives me peace of mind that I can safely travel with my family.

Installed these with the Dexter Bronze Bushings and Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizers. No more clanking and banging from the trailer going down the road and especially making tight turns.

Still working great!

by:

Haven't installed yet, hopefully in the next 6 weeks when it warms up. I was disappointed that there were no bronze bushings included, as the MORyde kit. So now I need to find 4 bronze bushings for the outer spring ends. Always something. I am so tired of incomplete items and things that don't work. This is the 2nd eTrailer review in 5 minutes that was disappointing. Apparently a sign of the times.

I checked with the manufacturer and the bushings are not included with this kit. We do offer a bushing set of 4 that have an inner diameter of 0.57 inches, an outer diameter of 0.69 inches, and an overall length of 1.74 inches. It is part # K71-291-00.

by:

The wet bolts and shackles have been on for a year and are working well. I have learned that you have to take the pressure off the springs/shackles by extending the stabilizers or jacking up the frame of the RV to enable the wet bolts to take grease. I didn't do this and the shackles bushings wore out. I decided to go ahead and replace the old bushings and shackles, although I probably could have gotten by without replacing the old shackles and wet bolts.

by:

The Parts fit exactly and installation was easy. etrailer makes taking care of my trailer easy with all the parts and service needed. I also purchased my Fiftheel hich from etrailer and they had a video on how to install. etrailer is the best.

by:

Package was awesome and fit perfect

by:

These have held up great!

by:

So far after a year and several thousand miles, it is doing great with one exception. One zerk fitting is very hard to grease. Meaning it takes a lot of pressure on the grease gun handle. I think what I need to do is reorient the bolt 90 degrees so there is no pressure on the flow of grease through the bolt. I will be doing this in the next month or so. Other than that one issue (no fault of the product) it’s doing great.

by:

Well, everything arrived and just in time. Shipping was delayed as it said it would arrive early, but it ended up arriving based upon the original date. All the parts and pieces were there and now time will tell on if it serves its purpose. I do know I will feel better driving on national forest roads with this vs the OEM suspension.

by:

Haven’t installed the kit yet. A little concerned that only one shackle fits easily on the two bolts that attach to the equalizer. Hopefully I can get them to fit when installation happens ina couple weeks.

by:

Great replacement parts for my fifth wheel. I would give the product a 5 star if the shackels lined up without any manipulation.

by:

Indeed the absolute best and most important part of my trailer upgrade and improvement I’ve made. These wet bolts along with the other components have made my trailer more durable and much quieter going down the road. It’s a must for every trailer in my book.

by:

All items in the shackle and wet bolt kit came bubble-wrapped. All were in great condition. No issues with packaging.

by:

Very heavy duty kit. Shipping was fast.

by:

Finish and thickness of the materials is way heavy duty. Exactly what I was looking for and the customer service rep for ordering help was perfect. Just need better weather to install!

by:

Great upgrade. Fast shipping A+++++

by:

I was happy to find the parts I needed and get them long before the appointment for installation....

by:

Very fast shipping, everything was well packed. Will shop here for all my needs.

by:

Installed the kit and the kit fit perfectly as described. I would highly recommend this product. Totally satisfied. Thank You

by:

Best kit for the Road Armor installatio n.

by:

Nice sturdy equipment. Lippert shipping prep fails again with how this is shipped. All equipment in a quart size zip lock baggy. The bolts that were placed have to be pounded out to be positioned correctly for the grease port. The zirc fittings are not consistent with the set depth of their placement.

Hi Paul, you’re definitely on the right track here, and I can help you narrow this down with confidence. With your tandem 3,500 lb Dexter axles and 33 inch spacing, both the Dexter EZ Flex part # K71-652-00 and the Lippert Road Armor part # LC53CK are going to fit your setup properly and won’t cause issues like clanking, binding, or tire clearance as long as your current dimensions are standard. Thanks so much for that info, and to replace your current leaf springs that are 24 inches apart from center eye to center eye, you want springs that are slightly shorter because over time they flatten out. So for replacements I recommend 23-1/8" long springs: - 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles - 23-1/8" Long # e59SR Then to replace your equalizer with a MORryde equalizer, you'll want to measure your axle from center to center, which will be your wheelbase, and the correct...

Hi Maret, Yep, it sure is fair to say, as the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 3-1/8" Long Shackle Straps # MR76ZR is compatible with the Lippert system and a fine alternative to the Lippert AP Kit # LC52SV. The blue is the aftermarket kit, whereas the red it typically factory installed. As far as your shackles, you will want to measure your current shackles to determine what size you need. Shackles are measured from center hole to center hole. The most common sizes are 2-1/4" long or 3-1/8" long. I recommend going with one of the MORryde wet bolt/shackle kits: - MORryde Suspension...

We don't currently have any Dexter wet bolt kits for tandem axle trailer's that do not come with an equalizer.
