Your propane components won't connect if one has a 3/8" female NPT port and the other has a 1/2" female NPT port. This hex nipple joins the two sizes, letting you complete or repair the threaded propane connection.
Replacing or adding a propane component can leave you with two female NPT connections that are different sizes.
