Features to know about

Steady Ride Over Rough Roads: 13-1/8" Long Equalizers Balance the Load

Tandem axles work best when they share the bumps and dips together. The 13-1/8" long straight equalizers in this kit link both axles so the weight stays balanced as you roll over uneven ground. That means less bounce from front to rear and a smoother, more controlled tow whether you’re hauling gear, toys, or a full setup down the highway.

Reliable Mounting That Holds Up: Heavy-Duty Front, Center, and Rear Hangers

Worn hangers can throw off suspension geometry and stress your springs. This kit restores a solid foundation with 5" tall front hangers, 4-1/2" tall center hangers, and 6-3/8" tall rear hangers. Each is built to line up your 2" slipper springs just right, keeping the axles square and the suspension travel smooth. It’s made for tandem setups with 3,500-lb to 8,000-lb axles, so it’s tough enough for serious use.

All the Hardware You Need for the Frame Side of the Job

You don’t have to hunt for small parts to finish the install. The kit includes spring keeper bolts, shackle bolts, wet equalizer bolts, and matching locknuts in the exact diameters and lengths needed—3-1/4" x 5/16", 3-1/2" x 9/16", and 4-1/2" x 7/8", respectively. Everything fits together cleanly so you can focus on accurate placement and welds instead of mismatched hardware.

Easy Setup for Consistent Axle Spacing

Getting axle spacing right is key to a trailer that tows straight. With this hanger kit, typical setups land right around 30-1/2" between the front and center hangers and the same between the center and rear. That gives you axle centers about 36" apart, a layout that’s proven to keep tandem axles aligned and tracking evenly when you hit the road.

by:

Good product. Doing a great job for me so far. I used the kit to upgrade our toy-hauler from 1.75” to 2” leaf springs.

by:

Added a third 7000 lb axle to our 14000 lb trailer. Easy to install, fit perfectly. Handles the weight better.

by:

Very prompt service and delivery.

by:

I purchased the 7 leaf sliper spring to replace my old ones. etrailer had all the parts needed to rebuild my trailer. The parts fit perfectly. The people there are very knowledgeable about the trailer parts and what is needed and what will fit when replacing old worn parts. I would stronly recomend etrailer for any of your trailer needs.

This kit (a dual kit) changed my view of Dexter as a quality-first manufacturer. etrailer simply sells it, they don't make it, so they aren't to blame.
This kit is made specifically for mounting Dexter's General Duty 9,000 lb axles in tandem and is different from kits made for 3500 to 8000 lb axles. It provides extra axle tube to frame clearance to accommodate the 4" axle tubes used on their 9k and 10k GD axles. It uses beefy 7/8" equalizer pivot bolts and 5/8" spring eye bolts. So far, so good. Until you pay over $350 for it and receive a suspension kit with absolutely ZERO lubrication provisions! Seriously, Dexter?!! The bolts provided are all just grade 5 hardware store plain jane dry bolts. Not even grade 8.
Dexter sells 7/8" greaseable "wet bolts" and even their lighter-duty hanger kits include greaseable wet bolts. But even if I paid etrailer the nearly $XX apiece they want for them (they're half that price elsewhere), there is literally no way of putting a square-shouldered carriage-style bolt, which they are, in the round roles this hanger kit was manufactured with without modification. As for the 5/8" spring eye bolts, only a great deal of internet searching will find any wet bolts the right diameter, and they'll be the wrong length. Those 4 bolts are about $20 each plus shipping.
So, by the time I pay a machine shop to square the equalizer bracket holes on and buy all the wet bolts, or have them made, JUST so I can lubricate this expensive hanger kit in hopes of it lasting more than a very short time on a trailer that often grosses 20k, I'm going to have over $500 invested in it, not counting all the extra wasted down-time. This kit was supposed to solve my trailer suspension problems, not create more. FAIL!!

If I were to rate this product I would want to say it was better than excellent.
Very impressed with your products. definitely beyond my expectation.
If fact I ordered brakes for the trailer the very day I received slipper springs kit.

It is hard to find such great quality and great service ANYWHERE these days, HOWEVER etrailer still has what it takes. The people always make a difference when you need help. A+
They have great Tech support online chat, email, by phone and even great tech articles.

We purchased this kit to rebuild an older trailer with worn parts. We received the kit promptly, however, the package was compromised and bolts were missing when it arrived. A quick call and the problem was resolved immediately. Two days later all new bolts appeared on our doorstep. Great company that cares about taking care of its customers. We truly appreciated that and will surely order again very soon as we have several trailers in our fleet.

by:

Everything was equal to or better than original. However I was not impressed with the packaging. My parts showed hanging out of the boxes. Luckily everything was there.

  • Hanger, U-Bolt, and Slipper Spring Kit for 8k Trailer Axles
If you use the Dexter Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs # HAP-105-205-01 that you referenced you'd end up with a height of 4-7/8 inches between the axle center and the frame of the trailer and 8 inches between the tires for most tire sizes. How that relates to your fender to tire clearance really depends on the location you install the fenders. For an 8k slipper spring that is 2 inches wide we have the etrailer # e37SR that would work really well. The hanger kit part...

  • Does a Slipper Spring Suspension Use a Bushing on the Slipper End
There is not a bushing on the hangers used on slipper spring trailers. Smaller single axle trailers will have a bolt that runs through the hanger, while some larger and tandem axle trailers will have a welded tube that the spring sits on, but there's no need to use a bushing. If you need to replace your hangers you can use something like the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs - 13-1/8" Long Equalizers # AP216-H238 for a tandem axle trailer or the Single-Axle Trailer...

  • Hanger Kit and Slipper Spring Spacing for Tandem 7,000 lb Axles to Add 16 Inch Wheels
The spacing is going to depend on the size of your tires, so let's start with that. For a 16 inch wheel/tire combo with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern the best option is a ST235/80R16 size tire with a load range of G to handle the capacity of your trailer. . A ST235/80R16 tire will measure nearly 31 inches in diameter so if your axles centers are spaced 36 inches apart you will have plenty of room. For the slipper springs you were right on with the 5-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Hook End for 7,000-lb...

Yes. You can use the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # AP216-H238 with your 29.5" Slipper Springs # e39SR; you'll want to make sure that you space your axles 35-1/8" apart (center on center) when assembling your trailer to correctly fit the # SP-161275 springs and the # AP216-H238 hanger kit. • How to Determine Hanger Spacing on a Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Slipper Springs
There isn't a specific distance the hangers have to be for hanger kit # AP216-H238. A good place to start is 30-1/2 inches on center but you would only really know by mocking it up on the trailer before permanently installing the hangers. To determine where the center between the 2 axles should be, and then to work and add the hangers from there, you can follow the formula in the picture I have included. Once you know where the center between the 2 axles should be it would just be a matter...

  • Does a Tandem Axle Trailer Need Equalizers
If your trailer has torsion axles, no worries but it it's a leaf spring suspension you really should have equalizers. Without the equalizer, the trailer will have a rougher ride and the weight won't be balanced across both axles when going over anything other than a flat surface. So potentially if you have 7000 lb trailer going over a bump with 2 , 3500 lb axles. When one axle is temporarily in the "air " the other axle will take on all the weight. That is why you don't see it too often....

  • Should Bolts be Tightened Down Completely on Leaf Spring Hangers
I definitely recommend pulling the bolts in until the head is flush with the hangers on your trailer's suspension. It's possible everything will work okay as they are now, but to be safe all the bolts should be tightened down completely. Even when tightened down, there will be some necessary movement there, but you will still want it as secure as possible. I have attached a leaf spring installation video that you may also find helpful

  • Slipper Spring and Tandem Axle Hanger Kit Recommendation for a 14k Trailer
Both slipper springs and double eye springs will work just as well as the other as long as they are rated for the weight of the trailer. Typically slipper springs are seen more on the heavier capacity trailers. For an 8k axle rated spring you really only have the option of slipper springs. You would want the # e46SR like you referenced. For a tandem axle hanger kit for use with this spring you would then want the part # AP216-H238.
