  • Troubleshooting Right Turn Signal Not Working on Trailer Taillights
First, disconnect the trailer from the tow vehicle so you can check the vehicle side connector. Using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, test the functions of the connector; specifically check the right turn/brake, to make sure the signal is making it to the connector. If it is not working at the connector, there might be a fuse blown or missing in the power distribution box under the hood. Also, make sure both connectors are clean, and free of any dirt or corrosion. This very well...

  • Troubleshooting Peterson Tail Lights on Boat Trailer That Keep Burning Out
It really all depends on what trailer light kit you have installed on your boat trailer. Some kits are designed to withstand submersion and other kits aren't. If you can let me know what kit is on your trailer (not just the type of bulbs you use) I can help you determine if it is submersible (granted we carry it). Another thing to note is that you need to make sure your trailer wiring is unplugged before backing the trailer into the water. Even if your lights are submersible, if you don't...

  • Troubleshooting Left Side Turn Signal Not Working On Trailer
This sounds like a ground problem on the left side. With the brake lights there is a constant signal coming through which is enough to make the lights illuminate on both sides like they should. But the on/off of a turn signal does not offer enough consistent voltage and makes the problem apparent. First check the grounds on the side where the problem is. Trailer lights usually ground through their mounting studs unless there is an obvious ground wire. In either case, the ground will need...

  • Pop up trailer brake light and turn signal on right side not working
I recommend checking the fuses under your dash. Some vehicles will have separate fuses for each function. My uncle had the same issue. I advised him to check the fuses first and he determined that he had a fuse blown. If your fuses are not the issue then check your 7 pole plug on the back of your Tacoma again. Have someone run through all the functions and test each one. You may be getting power to the plug but each function is going to be separate. If your determine that some of your functions...

  • How To Install The Peterson Square Trailer Tail Light Part # 432400
I am assuming you are referring to the Peterson Square Trailer Tail Light part # 432400. If this is the case, on the back of the taillight assembly, there are 4 wire holes for each function located at the top of the tail light assembly. The top two holes are designed for a larger gauge wire whereas the bottom two are designed for a smaller gauge wire. In order to remove the old wires, you will first need to unhook the trailer connector from the vehicle. You can then insert a small screwdriver...

  • Side Marker Lens Recommendation for a Peterson Taillight Assembly PM440
The Peterson Replacement Lens # 55-15R is the correct replacement side marker lens for your trailer lights part # 432200. Screw holes are beneath the original tail light side marker lenses for use with this replacement lens. In the manufacturing process, when the lights are being assembled, the side lights are snapped in via machinery, however, when they need to be replaced, they do need to be screwed into place.

  • No Brake Lights on Inner Harbor Trailer Towed by Harley-Davidson Road King
I would recommend using a circuit tester like part PTW2993 on the green and yellow wires exiting the converter, to see if you get voltage on them when the brake pedal is applied. You stated that you are getting voltage on the brake wire on the input side of the converter. If you get no voltage on the output side, the converter is blown and will need to be replaced. The most common cause of the converter being blown is a short in the trailer wiring. You would need to trace each circuit...

  • Troubleshooting Right Blinker Causing Both Blinkers to Light Up
If both blinkers are going on when you activate the right blinker the first thing, as usual with trailer lighting, is to check your ground connections. You'll want to make sure your grounds are securely attached to bare metal surfaces free of any paint, dirt or corrosion of any kind. Additionally, each component does need to have its own ground (see accompanying photo) because a common ground connector such as what you have can impact all of the wiring and cause issues. Another thing...

  • Troubleshooting Right Blinker Not Functioning on a Trailer
The first thing I would do is check the ground on the right tail light assembly. The ground may not be strong enough to carry the amperage. You will want to make sure the ground is attached to a clean metal surface or if the assembly grounds through the mounting hardware you will want to make sure that surface is a clean metal surface too. If that checks out next you will need use a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 and test the right turn signal circuit on the trailer connector on...

  • Troubleshooting a Right Turn/Brake Signal on a Pop-Up Camper Trailer
It sounds like the problem is in the way the your right turn/brake light is grounded. You said that there is power to the fixture which would mean that either the fixture/bulb is faulty or the ground is bad. Try finding a grounding point that is closer to the fixture and attach it there. Any paint-free metal surface that is clean should work well, you might try taking some sandpaper to the area to really clean it up and allow for the best possible contact. It sounds like you already...

  • Right Turn Signal and Brake Light Not Working
It sounds like you either have a blown fuse or a short on the right side turn light and brake light circuit. First, I recommend checking the trailer wire connector on the vehicle. You can use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, to test that power is coming from your vehicle for the right turn signal and brake light. The green wire on a 4-way connector is the wire that powers your right-side turn and brake light. On a 7-way connector, the right turn and stop light wire is connected to the...

  • Bulb Replacement for Peterson # 440 Tail Light
The Peterson Combination Trailer Tail Light # 432200 uses either 1156 ( # DI49VR ) or 1157 ( # DI79VR ) replacement bulbs. The 1156 are single filament bulbs (marker lights) and the 1157 are double filament bulbs (multi-function).

  • How to Replace Blown Tail Light Bulb on Trailer
There are a wide variety of trailer lights offered and these come with different type of construction. Some lights may not be user-serviceable (such as some LED types and sealed waterproof lights) but usually trailer lights that use standard incandescent bulbs have either a removable lens that either snaps into place or that is held in by screws. Examples of such lights are # ST51RB and # 432200. You can use the link provided to see all trailer tail lights offered. You can use the filters...

  • Troubleshooting Pop Up Camper Light Signal Working With One Vehicle and Not Another
It sounds like your issue is being caused by a weak ground on the pop up camper. The best place to start troubleshooting is with the ground for the right tail/brake light. It is important to ground the light to a spot on the trailer that is clean of paint, dirt, debris, rust, and corrosion. Anything between the ground wire's ring terminal/ground post of the light and the steel frame of the trailer can cause issues with the ground. If the light does have a ground wire, you can also check...

  • How Do You Remove The Peterson Replacement Lens, # 440-15R, On The Taillight To Replace A Bulb
The Peterson Replacement Lens, # 440-15R, is just the replacement lens, so it does not have any screws included. The screws that hold this lens to the taillight are on the taillight and use the holes that are in each corner of the replacement lens. It is a replacement lens for Peterson Square Trailer Tail Light Right Hand, # 432200, and the Peterson Square Trailer Tail Light Left Hand, # 432400. The taillights do come with bulbs.

  • Right Tail Lights on Trailer and Vehicle Stay Solid When Right Turn Signal is On
It sounds like you have a short somewhere on your trailer. I would recommend finding which wire is your right turn and brake wire at your trailer connector using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and follow that wire back to the taillight. My guess is that you will find a pinched, frayed or damaged section somewhere on that wire. You should also check all connections to make sure they are making good contact. It also would not be a bad idea to check the ground connections to ensure...

  • Troubleshooting Right Turn and Brake Light Not Functioning on Trailer
First thing you should do at this point is test the 4-way of the wiring harness with a circuit tester part # PTW2993 for voltage on all of the right pins when the taillight signals are being applied. Just like in the video I attached. If the voltage checks out there but the trailer lights still don't function right then the problem is on the trailer wiring. That would mean that problem is either due to a ground issue or a short issue. Make sure that the trailer side connector are clean...

Thank you for including a photo; it's always a huge help! Additionally I'm not seeing anything close to your light as an available replacement from Command, so it might be discontinued and the light would need to be replaced completely. • Troubleshooting Right Turn Signal Not Functioning But Running Light Works
It's a ground issue. I know you said the running lights work on that side, but that circuit draws considerably less than the blinker/stoplight circuit so an insufficient ground will show up there first. Try improving the ground of the assembly and it should work just fine. If it grounds through the mounting hardware try cleaning off where it attaches or running jumper wires to the ground harness of the trailer.

  • Right Turn Signal and Brake Lights Not Working on Trailer Towed by a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500
It sounds like you have done a good amount of testing. Based on what you have said I would check the fuses and/or relays that are related to the trailer wiring on the truck. Use the legend on the lid of the power distribution box to find the locations. Make sure that the trailer is not also having problems by connecting it to another vehicle to determine if the lighting functions work. If they do not, it could be a bad ground connection or a short. Make sure the trailer and vehicle side...

  • Should Both Side of Trailer Lights Flash with Hazard Lights on
The reason that you would have a fuse just for one side of the signals is because they are for different circuits. You are correct that when you have your hazard lights on both the yellow and green should flash. It sounds like you have done a great job at troubleshooting so if I were you I would check the owner's manual for your vehicle for fuses that would relate to your trailer lights. Sometimes they have the same fuse and sometimes they don't. The only way to know for sure is with...
