Features to know about

Built for Heavy Loads: Fits 9,000- to 10,000-lb Axles After July 2009

When you’re hauling serious weight, you want a hub and drum that can take the strain without giving you trouble down the road. This Dexter hub-and-drum assembly is designed for 9K and 10K general-duty axles made after July 2009. It’s a one-piece, non-ABS setup that uses sturdy iron construction for dependable braking with either electric or hydraulic drum brakes. With a 12-1/4" x 3-3/8" drum surface and an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern, it’s built to keep your heavy-duty setup running smooth.

Simplifies Maintenance: Oil Bath System with Clear Cap Inspection

Keeping tabs on lubrication is easy with the oil bath design. A clear cap lets you check fluid levels at a glance—no disassembly required. Just fill with bearing oil through the included RG04-300 oil cap kit (21-88 cap, 10-163 O-ring, and 46-32 plug), and you’ve got a system that runs cooler, cuts friction, and helps your bearings last longer.

Complete Kit for Straightforward Installation: Bearings, Races, Seal, and Hardware Included

This assembly comes ready with everything you need to get rolling again. It includes the inner bearing (387A, 2.250" ID) and race (382A), outer bearing (25580, 1.750" ID) and race (25520), unitized oil seal (10-51, 2.875" ID x 3.880" OD), plus the oil cap, wheel retaining ring, 5/8" drive-in studs, and lug nuts. With all the parts matched and ready, you save time on the job and ensure a reliable fit.

Built to Last: Solid Iron Hub and Drum Construction

Long hauls and tough conditions call for durable parts. The iron hub and drum combination gives you the strength and heat dispersion needed for repeated braking on heavy loads. It’s the kind of setup you install once and count on mile after mile.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

The rating is for etrailer, not the product. The Dexter hub and drum assembly was fine, etrailers way of doing business is not. The estimated ship date kept changing due to a "location in warehouse" issue. It took 2 weeks before they shipped it out. Bottom line, if you need something in a timely fashion, look elsewhere.

  • What is the Capacity of a Dexter P-12 Model D100 Axle
It looks like you're likely trying to replace your hubs/drums on your Dexter axle and I do believe that the "0100" you found on the spec plate actually reads "D100" since that was one of the models that Dexter had for this particular line of axles; I've confirmed this with Dexter as well. These axles were 10k axles and they came in both a general duty and a heavy duty model with the 10k capacity. In order to find out which hub/drum will work as a replacement, you'll need to pull the hubs...

  • Determining Replacement Hub And Bearings For Dexter P-12 SLR Trailer Axle
I can definitely help you find the correct replacement hub and bearings for your Dexter P-12 SLR axle, but since part of the serial number was unreadable you will need to take a few simple steps to identify which bearings your axle uses. The easiest way to accomplish this is to remove one hub and look for the numbers stamped on the inner and outer bearing like shown in the attached picture of the # L44649. If your bearings are too worn to be able to read the numbers, you will need digital...

We have what you need! Thanks for the photos. Even though the serial number is torn from the axle tag, we still identified the brakes you need with the Unique ID Number 124394998016 from your 10k Dexter axle tag. I confirmed with my tech at Dexter that you need the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly - Self-Adjusting - 12-1/4" # 23-450 (left side) and the # 23-451 (right side). These are direct replacements of brakes constructed for your 10k Dexter axles on your Gatormade trailer.

  • When is Wheel Retainer Ring Needed for Dexter Hubs and Wheels
The wheel retainer ring that is included in certain hub assemblies like the Dexter # 8-430-5UC3 that you referenced will be installed on dual wheels when tapered coned lug nuts like # 6-109 are used instead of flange wheel nuts. It essentially allows you to use a lower torque spec for the nuts which would be required when using coned nuts.

  • Why Are There Different Brake Drums for 9,000 and 10,000 lb Axles After July 1, 2009?
The Dexter Trailer Hub/Drum Assembly # 8-430-5UC3 is a one piece assembly, hub and drum together. It fits Dexter 9k and 10k general duty axles made after 07/01/2009. Hub # 8-288-3UC1 is a 2 piece for 9K axle (after 10/89) and 10K axle (through 7/1/09). It does not come with the drum or mounting bolts. Dexter changed their spindle diameters on these two capacity (9,000 and 10,000 lb) axles. The biggest difference was in the inner diameter of the seal needed.

I spoke directly with my technical contact over at Dexter. Basically you cannot replace an 8-430 hub with an 8-288 hub due to differences in the spindles that each of those hubs fit. If your axle was made after July of 2009 then you will need to use # 8-430-5UC3. If it was made before July of 2009 you would instead use # 8-288-3UC1 with drum # 9-44-1 for non-ABS systems or # 9-44-3 for ABS systems.
