Today, we're going to take a look at the STEM coat, eight inch adjustable channel center, hydraulic drum, brake actuator with a 20,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.Now this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration will occur and the momentum will push your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with the surge brake systems, the actuator is then triggered as your trailer moves forward. Once your tow vehicle starts to slow down.
So when this happens, this actuator will contract applying force to the master cylinder back here, and this in turn supplies, the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.It does use an asset tele co-polymer lining on the inside, which provides a nice smooth operation. As this actuator will telescope in and out.You can see at the front here, it has this nice adjustable channel has three different mounting positions for your coupler attached to now the couplers not included that we do sell separately. This is a heavy duty steel construction has a nice black powder coat finish on it to resist corrosion.And at the very back here underneath, you can see there is the composite master cylinder, which is very durable and efficient. It uses glass reinforced, nylon construction to resist rust and corrosion has a nice, very large reservoir provides increased capacity for your brake fluid and right up here at the top, it uses this automotive style diaphragm cap, which helps create a completely enclosed system and helps prevent contamination of your brake fluid. Now it does include this breakaway cable.That's up to your breakaway switch right here, and that is required.
And basically what this does is you would hook this to your tow vehicle. And if it happens, if your trailer happens to come detached from your tow vehicle, it would pull on this cable, which would activate the breakaway, which would apply the pressure in the master cylinder to the brakes to prevent a runaway situation. So that is all included.Now this is a weld on installation. It is made in the USA few specs on this. Again, this is for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes, gross towing weight capacity, again is 20,000 pounds.
Maximum tongue weight capacity is 2000 pounds.Give you a few measurements on this, the channel itself, the inside with where your coupler will insert. It's going to be right at three inches, the channel height. And the bottom to the very top is right at eight inches. And it is designed to Mount onto a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. This goes by the model number of da 20.
And one last note on this actuator is because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout at the back here on the master cylinder. It is recommended that you equip your trailer with free backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
