Question:
Hi I currently have a 18 ft flatbed trailer, it has two 4200 lb axles on it. Currently it has surge brakes and I want to convert it to electric, Do you guys sell a complete kit to do this? Thanks for you help

Hello Allen, thanks for reaching out. We do have parts for that. The 4,200 lb axles are not a common/standard size though, so we will need to confirm a few specs to make sure you get the right thing. Your axle should use a standard 4-bolt brake flange, and if so, the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # K23-478-479 or # 23-468-469 are likely what you will end up needing.
The big thing we need to nail down is your hub/bearing info. Your best bet will be to remove one of the current hubs and pull the bearings out. You can measure the ID of each bearing with a micrometer or measure the part of the spindle where the bearing rides. Also check your hub bolt pattern while you are at it, so we can try to match the new hubs to your current wheels.
Get me that info and I can put together a complete parts list for you. Aside from brake assemblies and hubs you will need the following:
- etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector # e99011
- Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire - per Foot # 10-2-1
- Demco Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler - eZ-Latch - Silver - 2" Ball - Bolt On - 10,000 lbs # DM15000-52
The brake wire is sold by the foot. Also, the Demco coupler bolts on to a 3" tongue. You will need a 7-way and an electric trailer brake controller in your tow vehicle. The Tekonsha P3 # 90195 is what I recommend for that.
Get me that hub/bearing info and we can nail down the rest.

Hey Allen, were you able to get the hub and bearing measurements from your trailer? Once you have those details, we can confirm if the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brakes and other parts line up correctly. Let me know what you find so we can finish putting the kit together.
