Will Demco Trailer Coupler DM15000-52 Replace Dutton-Lainson 980-2

Updated 01/12/2026 | Published 09/01/2024

Question:

Hello, I’d like to replace my boat trailer tongue with a Demco EZ Latch tongue. The trailer currently has a Dutton-Lainson V-5 model 980-2 installed on it. Would the Demco DM15000-52 be the best replacement, or is there a better match? Thanks, David

Hi David,

Good choice as the eZ-Latch couplers are so easy to use, and I can tell you that a perfect replacement is indeed the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM15000-52.

The 980-2 is for a 3" channel and from what I found has bolt holes 3" apart, and the # DM15000-52 is the very same so it'll be a nice upgrade.

Hey David, how did the swap to the Demco eZ-Latch coupler go on your boat trailer? It sounds like it should have been a smooth upgrade from the Dutton-Lainson model. Sharing how it turned out could help others looking for the same replacement.
