Video Transcript for Ultimate Overview of the Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts for Boat Trailer Rollers

Hi there boat trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods. And this is what our replacement roller rod's going to look like. These are available in either two different diameters, whether it be five eighths, like we have here or half inch, you just want to match it up to your old one. And they're also available in varying lengths. So that way you can get the proper span for your particular trailer.

And all of them are zinc coated to protect them from rusting corrosion, which is very common on your boat trailers since you're pulling it in and out of the boat dock all the time, you're next to the Lake. They often get wet. So this way we can ensure that we're going to have long lasting operation of this rod, and it's not going to seize up inside of here due to rust and corrosion. Also included with it you'll receive cap nuts for each side of your rod. And these are nice because once you press them on there, they're pretty much a permanent fit, you have to really try to get them off of there. And since this is a roller, it doesn't ever really get forces side to side, but we don't want to use regular thread on nuts on something like this since it does roll.

That could potentially cause the nuts to back off. So this is an ideal solution. If your old keel roller or keel roller rod are worn out and need replacement, the replacement shaft here is going to be a great option for you because it's kind of a one use thing, unless you can get yourself some new cap nuts. And even if you do get new cabinets, if it's heavily corroded and worn down, those cap nuts may not fit as tight and as properly as they used to.So when replacing your keel roller, when it's wore out, I highly recommend also replacing the keel roller rod. The rod is going to be made of solid steel with a zinc coating.

So it's going to be extremely durable holding up the weight that is pressed down from the boat sitting on it there. And the zinc coat is going to protect it against rust and corrosion. If your keel roller is worn out. And that's why you're looking at getting replacements. We also carry the keel rollers here at etrailer.com.

So you can get a set up just like this. You can see how nice and smooth it is, and we've got a nice surface for our boat to rest on.Today we're going to be replacing the keel roller's shaft because our key roller's all damaged up and in order to get the roller off, we have to take the shaft out and the nuts typically get damaged and are not reusable. So we're just going to be replacing it all as an assembly. Start by removing our roller's nuts. We're just going to get behind it with a pair of pliers. We're just going to pop that cap off of there. inaudible 00:02:18. Our shaft will then slide out. We can remove our roller and then install our new components. We've got our shaft here and I find it easier to get one cap nut on first. So we're just going to set that on top and we're just going to hammer it into place. I'm going to use a rubber mallet just to help minimize how much dings I make on the little cap. And it's really that simple. And you can see here, there's no way I'm going to push this off. If I wanted to get this off of here, I would almost have to take another hammer and smash it off of there because you're just not going to be able to pull it off. Now we can just take our roller. We're going to set it into place. Slide our rod all the way through the roller, until it comes out on the other side. We'll then take our cap, we're going to set it into place. Now that we got it just barely started. We're going to finish tapping it on. I'm going to use a hammer on the other side, because it might hurt your hip or something else if you're holding it. And we can see our shaft spins, our roller spins and it's nice and solid, it's not going anywhere. Thought you need a hatchet. And that completes our look at CE Smith's replacement keel roller rods.

This product fits well with the Roller Bracket and the 4" Bow Roller. Very Happy with order turnaround and ease of ordering. I'm fixing up my trailer and will be back here for more.

by:

Great website for trailer parts! Everything was easy to find and correctly described. Shipping was quick and reasonable. All parts were made well and fit properly.

by:

The product is as described. What is more important here is ETrailers willingness to step up on an issue. I paid for overnight shipping but it wasnt delivered. I contacted etrailers and they responded back right away. They gave me a partial refund on shipping though it was not their fault. That is customer service!! I will highly recommend.

I didn't rate you as overall as excellecnt because the questions I had should have had the answeres there already. When buying parts, all details should be present, such as dimentions on all aspects. This includes measurments and details of mounting holes and other related part mating details. Many people are trying to rehab their trailers and boats, and do not completely know the engineering. Sorry, that's life. I have been very happy with the parts I have purchased, and was extreamly happly with the responsises to my questions. I just think that the details I needed should have already been there. Taking time to send questions is lost productivity, we are not pro-shops, and the delays can cost us much.

  • Replacement 4-1/2 Inch Long Spool Rollers for a Boat Trailer
In order to find the correct replacement spool roller for your boat trailer, you would need to measure from the inside of each mounting bracket. The 4-1/2" long measurement that you provided is not common and we would not have anything that matches this dimension exactly. With that being said, I recommend using a 4" long roller and adding a couple washers on each side. You could also tighten the brackets more to pull them in further. The bells that you mentioned would be too thick to...

  • Adding a Winch Stand and Bow Stop to a Calkins Boat Trailer
One of the keys for a winch mount is the width trailer tongue they fit. Mount # CE31013G fits on 2 inch wide trailer tongues so if that is what you have then this is a great option for the trailer and winch.

The diameter of the mounting bolt hole on the CE Smith Bow Roller Bracket for Winch Stands, # CE31005PG, is .45 inch. The bolt through hole size for the winch shaft bolt is .75 inch diameter. I have included a diagram that shows the dimensions of the bolt holes for the bracket.

  • 1983 Tee Nee Trailer for a Flying Scot Sailboat Keel Roller Option
From past customers we have found that the TeeNee trailers use a three inch keel roller like the part # YR300Y. That being said I would need to see a picture of your setup to give you the best options we have. I did some research on your Tee Nee trailer and it looks like there are a few different styles that will affect the type of brackets that you will use. If you have frame rails that run perpendicular to the boat, then I recommend using a set of angle mounting brackets like part...

  • Replacement Keel Roller Brackets for a Tee Nee Boat Trailer with 3 Inch Rollers
The 3 inch rubber bow roller, # YR3143-4, that you referenced is typically used at the front of the boat near the winch. The rollers that are usually used in the middle and rear are keel rollers. Often times, the v shape of the 3 inch bow roller is too deep for the middle or rear end of a boat hull. I did some research on your Tee Nee trailer and it looks like there are a few different styles that will affect the type of brackets that you will use. If you have frame rails that run perpendicular...

  • Can Yates Flat Bow Stop # YRJONBLOCK Mount to a Boat Trailer Tongue with Bracket # CE32004G
The Yates Flat Bow Stop, # YRJONBLOCK, requires a 1/2 inch diameter shaft like # CE10700A. The bracket you mentioned, # CE32004G, takes a 5/8 inch diameter shaft so a 1/2 inch diameter will fit but it will be loose. Out of the parts that we carry this would be the best combination for your application.

  • Replacement Bow Roller Bracket, Shaft and Roller
We don't have any bow rollers that will fit a roller larger than 1/2 inch in diameter so the best recommendation I could make would be to replace your current setup with something like the part # CE31005PG for a bracket, part # CE10700A for a new roller shaft, and then part # YR300Y for a roller.

Hey Emmett, Thanks for your question. We do carry several Y-style bow stops, and I believe that's the type you're looking for. Based on the measurements you provided, the Y-Style Bow Stop # YR7Y44-4 is the closest match. It features a 4" x 4" base with a 7" span. This bow stop is designed to work with a roller bracket that accepts a 4" wide Y-stop base, such as # CE31005PG, along with a 1/2" diameter roller shaft, like # CE10700A. Out of curiosity, where are you typically launching...

  • Shaft Recommendation for a 3 Inch Bow Roller for Boat Trailers # YR3143-4
The 3 inch bow roller # YR3143-4 takes a 1/2 inch diameter shaft such as # CE10700A. The Pal nuts are included. The length of this shaft is 5-1/4 inches long so you may need to trim it down a little. The cut will need to be straight and smooth so the Pal nuts will still fit on the ends. If a bracket is needed as well we have numerous options. I have included a link to them for you.

Yes, you can replace the roller on the CE Smith Keel Roller Assembly # CE32005G by popping off the cap nuts and removing the roller shaft. The Boat Trailer 4" Long Spool Roller # DL21566 will provide a 4" roller replacement.
