Features to know about

Tight Spots and Deep Snow: Class S Chains That Fit and Grip

When you’re driving in snowy mountain or rural areas where clearance is tight, a low-profile chain makes all the difference. These Konig chains are SAE Class S compatible and only need 1/2" of internal clearance, so they’ll fit even when space is limited. The diamond pattern keeps more of the chain in contact with the road, giving smoother traction on snow-covered and icy pavement.

No More Stopping to Retighten: Self-Tensioning Design Handles It for You

Once these are connected, you just drive away and the chains automatically tighten and center themselves. That means no pulling over halfway up a hill to readjust them in freezing weather. The self-tensioning system keeps a snug, even fit the entire time you’re driving, so you get consistent grip without the hassle.

Stretching the Konig tire chain’s hook across the tire before driving for self-tensioning.

Built to Last Through Winter After Winter: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Construction

Each link is made from high-quality manganese nickel alloy steel that resists rust and corrosion. The tough, case-hardened links handle repeated use in slush and salt without wearing out fast. Nylon bumpers protect your rims from scratches, and powder-coated side chains add extra defense against the elements for season-after-season reliability.

Smooth Ride and Strong Bite: Diamond Pattern with Square Links and Traction Plates

The square links dig into snow and light ice for solid forward motion, while their smaller size gives you a less bumpy ride. Add in the diamond layout and built-in traction plates that break apart icy buildup, and you’ve got steady grip and control on steep or slick winter roads.

Ready When You Are: Compact, Easy to Store, and Simple to Use

Each set includes two lightweight chains that fit 15"–18" tires and come packed in a durable nylon storage bag. The quick drape-over design means you can connect them in minutes, even in cold weather. Once you’re done, they pack up small so you can keep them in your car as a dependable backup any time winter weather hits.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

These are really easy to put on and take off. I have used them three times on my 2019 chevy colorado (4wd) to deal with high elevation mountain snow. After each use, I washed them, hung to dry and then put back in the truck. They are so awesome, I recommend them to others.

I have a 2019 Honda CRV and have never owned tire chains before so I dont have anything to compare these to but they are easy to put on and take off and they conquer a steep icy unpaved drive way in The Catskills perfectly. There are some plastic parts that probably should be metal. One of them - the tension hook - broke on one of my chains (see photo) and when I reported this to etrailer.com with a photo to prove it, they sent another set. So I am pleased overall with the service from etrailer.com but am only giving 4 stars for the product on account of the breakage. Also they rusted after one season but that hasn't impacted performance.

I love these chains, and etrailer is the best! As a 69 yr old retired grandma, I work part-time at a ski resort. A few weeks ago, we were expecting 8-10 inches of snow/ice and I was scheduled to work. So, I put these idiot-proof, color-coded, self-adjusting chains on my Highlander front low profile tires and waited for weather. See photo. I worked my full shift, came out to ice/snow in dark, and drove safely home. Oh, and the carrying case comes with a folded plastic sheet, but with my old knees I added a foam pad!

I think this is the fourth pair of these chains I have purchased for various vehicles. I have had great success with these over the years. No chains are "easy" to put on but these make it about as easy as it can be. Once you are familiar with the process it takes only a few minutes per tire. The self-tensioning is the best feature. The storage box even has a hook and loop pad on the back so it won't slide around in your carpeted trunk or back seat. I got these for my '25 F150 Lariat. Our vacation home is at the end of a one-mile lane that is steep, snow covered all winter and usually icy in places from the sun. Snow tires and chains are a necessity for us.

I needed chains for my FWD Volvo up in the Catskills, NY. I have a dirt driveway, the FWD Volvo from 2017 can’t handle an inch of snow/ice surprisingly for a Swedish car. I searched for high quality chains and ended up here. I asked Josh questions before purchasing, he was so helpful. The chains are magic, tricky to install the first time, but now I can install easily. They work so well. They store back in their plastic box easily to place in the trunk. Very pleased.

by:

Tunnel View at Yosemite. Chains worked perfectly, but not quite as easy to install as the video would suggest. I made the mistake of pulling over into 3-4 inches of snow to put them on. The snow packed around the base of the tire made it very difficult. That's not something you encounter when practicing in your nice warm garage. But once on, the chains stayed secure, and the car handled and braked with confidence.

by:

Very happy with how easy it is to install these. I really appreciated the installation videos showing the different tire sizes - we got the right size first try for both of my cars. These are the only chains I will order from now on. Highly recommend.

by:

I had called multiple places and searched Google trying to find chains for my tire size, but no one had results for the make, model, and year of my vehicle. Since I had purchased chains from etrailer years ago for my previous car, I decided to give them a call.

I spoke with Abbey, who was also confused as to why my tire size wasn’t showing any product matches. She placed me on a brief hold to consult with an expert, and it turned out they did have the right product. I purchased the chains and installed them for a fitting—and they worked perfectly!

Thank you, Abbey, for going the extra mile to find a solution and the right product for my needs. Great customer service!

Product is well designed and comes with a convenient packing case. Go to You Tube for instruction on installation which was very helpful

by:

i carry it in the car all the time but have not had to use it yet. Well made. Quality construction. Very easy to install. I practiced. Nice product but not yet proven by myself. I do have high confidence that they will perform perfectly when the time comes.

by:

I've only used these as insurance - and have not had to use them in the snow. I did install them once just to be sure I knew how to put them on in the event that was necessary and they installed just like the directions said, so I think no problems.

by:

Excellent chains, can be put on in minutes w/out prior experience, instructions are printed on the case for easy access in frustrating moments. Will buy this brand from this store in the future.

by:

Thank you, the chains were delivered and we both used the website to learn how to install them on the car. Yes, we have done 2 dry runs on the tires in the garage. They may have cost a little more but having the self-tension chains is wonderful and soooooo much easier to install than the conventional ones. We are an older couple and getting up and down especially in the snow, can be challenging so the less fussing that has to be done, the better. We also added heavy gloves to the container and always carry a big sheet of plastic with us. We feel prepared to head through the Sierra's into Salt Lake in the coming months.

by:

Bought the chains for my wife's Volvo XC70 and a winter cross country trip last January. Needed them on I-5 between California and Oregon. They worked great. Practiced installing and removing them in the garage before the trip. Installing the chains in the snow was quick and easy. Appreciated the self tensioning feature.
Found out the hard way, though, that removing the chains is only easy if the wheel/tire is in the same position relative to the road as when the chains were installed. Easier said than done when it's raining and the wind is blowing up a storm after crossing the snowy mountain pass. Now we know to pack a crayon with the chains so we can mark the top of the tire after installing them, know to drive forward or back to again put the mark on top when it's time to remove them. Otherwise you end up with tensioning cables wrapped around brake calipers and lots of cussing.

by:

I am really pleased with this purchase. I recently put them on in the midst of a nice snow shower and it took less than 5 minutes. The fact that they self correct as you drive means you don't have to have them perfectly centered to start with. The links are a lot smaller that I expected, so they are easy to handle. I have learned that as the roads get better to leave them off because you definitely don't want to use them on pavement, as the vehicle will shake like crazy. You also don't want to go more than about 20 mph with them on.

by:

I was looking to have snow tire chains for my upcoming trip to northern Wisconsin. I found these to be very easy to install as the instructions were very clear. I like that they come with a case to make them easy to store in my Ford Escape.

These tire chains got me out of jam recently when I had gone down a 1 lane thanks to massive snow road and there was no place to turn around. I put on the chains and was able to do a multi-point turn to get back down the road with ease.

  • Recommended Tire Chains for a 2020 Subaru Forester AWD
Hey Jim! I looked online and I see quite a few differing opinions on tire chains for a 2020 Subaru Forester. It looks like the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive function checks the boxes on being able to get through snow. What you're going to need to consider is whether or not the road to Mammoth requires them. If you get a pair you can run just a single set on the front axle and you'll get around decently but ideally you have them installed on all tires to get the best traction all around....
