According to the owner's manual of your 2014 Ford Edge, your vehicle can only be flat towed if you have a 3.5L or 3.7L 6-cylinder engine. If you have a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, you need to use a tow dolly.
If you do have a 6-cylinder engine and are flat towing your vehicle, the instructions for putting your transmission in neutral are as follows:
- Release the parking brake.
- Place the transmission in position N.
- Place the ignition in the accessory position.
I contacted Ford to make sure, and they confirmed that you do not need to start the ignition in order to shift the vehicle into neutral.
If you need the equipment for flat-towing your 2014 Ford Edge, here are some quick recommendations:
- Tow Bar: # RM-520
- Safety Cables: # C80176
- Base Plates: # 524426-1 for models with Adaptive Cruise Control, # 4408-1 for models without Adaptive Cruise Control
- Wiring: # RM-15267
- Braking System: # BLU37TR
