It's Evangeline from etrailer.com, and today we are looking at our Thule roof rack with WingBar Evo crossbars and Evo raised rail towers, here on our 2020 Subaru Forester.Our Forester here has these raised rails. So, these Evo raised rail towers just clamp around them, and it was really easy to install. You just put it on there and you just tighten it down, which is a really nice feature about them. They also have these caps, and you can replace the cores on the caps with locked cores so you can lock your roof rack to your car.Our Forester has this glass roof up here for the sunroof. So, what I like about how this roof rack works together is that it latches onto the rails and goes over the roof so you don't have any weight on your glass roof and you still have access to your sunroof, which is great.As for measurements, your clearance between your roof and the bottom of the rails is four inches. So, that's plenty of space for your clamps, for your accessories to clamp around your WingBars.
And as for overhang, we have the 53 inch crossbars, and you have an overhang from the end of the tower to the end of the crossbars of five and a half inches. Now, you can also get shorter. I know that the 50 inch crossbars work with this as well if you want less overhang.I like the WingBars since they are a level up, or they're redesigned to make it a lot easier for you to use your T-track accessories. You can see how you can access your T-track by just raising this up. And before, you had to take off the rubber strip at the top, but now you can just put your T-track accessories through the rubber strip, and it's sturdily in there, and you're ready to go.I already installed the first crossbar, so we're going to install the second one together.
The first thing you need to do is to insert your tower onto your bar, and you need to start by taking the end cap off. So, press that lever at the top and pull the end cap out. Then turn this upside-down and insert it into your bar. There we go. Then you have to pull this forward so that you can slide it forward.There are measurements here at the bottom to help you determine how far apart your towers need to be.
Once you get it installed the first time, you can just keep them there, and that's a good way to install it and uninstall it quickly. For the first step, though, you can measure it, or you can just put it on there and eyeball it. So, let's put this on there.I recommend getting a second set of hands, just to grab the bar while it's up there. There you go, and put it into place.It's up to personal preference where you want to put it. I like to put it behind this second part right there.
Let's get that fitted on, and over.It's up to you where you want to place it on your Forester's roof. I have it here at 28 inches, which I think is a good width or range for accessories.With it in place, you can then tighten it down with the included tool. And make sure you tighten it all the way till you hear it click. There you go. When you hear that click, you know it's been tightened down tight enough and you're ready to put your cap on it.Our cap just snaps on and. Like that. You can also replace these cores here with same-key lock cores. You can get them from Thule in a set of four to replace all four so that you can use one key to lock your roof rack in.So, final thoughts about this roof rack is I love how Thule has redesigned everything, especially the Evo clamps. Here you can see how easy they we're to install, as well as how strong and sturdy they clamp onto our raised rails and work with our Forester's design here. I think it's a great. they did a great job with this.
