It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

ShockStrap Ratcheting Tie-Down

shockstrap snap hook strap with shock

Made in America to military-grade specifications, this one-of-a-kind ratchet strap from ShockStrap is great for nearly any application, from securing cargo on your vehicle for your next weekend getaway, to strapping down your favorite toys on your trailer. The 18' length of this strap is perfect for securing heavy loads to your trailer and tying down UTVs and utility tractors.

Unlike traditional straps, which don't stretch or contract, this tie-down is uniquely designed with built-in shock absorbers that allow the strap to maintain constant tension on your load as you travel. This is great for vehicles with suspension systems that can compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain.

Built-In Shocks

shockstrap rubber shock

The webbing of a standard strap can't stretch or contract to absorb impacts. As a result, standard tie-downs might become detached from their anchor points, or they may become slack around your gear as the load shifts. But this ratchet strap features 2 built-in urethane shocks that are designed to absorb impact and to allow give. This ensures that the tie-down stays taut and won't loosen over time. The built-in shocks help to keep the tie-down from coming loose or failing, which could result in lost or damaged gear.

In addition, the shock ensures a longer life for the strap webbing. If you use this to tie down a UTV, for example, the constant compressing and rebounding of the UTV's suspension during travel can wreak havoc on ordinary straps. The webbing is likely to experience more wear and tear as it rubs along your gear. But the ShockStrap's shock absorbs these jolts so that the webbing of the tie-down stays put instead of wearing over the edges of your equipment.

Easy-to-Use Ratchet

shockstrap large handle ratchet

This tie-down features a commercial-grade, field-replaceable ratchet that is easy to use. To release the ratchet, grab the oversized handle and pull on the release lever. The release lever is positioned on the outside of the ratchet to ensure safe and easy operation, even if you're wearing gloves.

How to Use the ShockStrap Ratchet Strap

shockstrap snap hook with retention clip

To use the ShockStrap ratcheting tie-down strap, first attach one of the sturdy snap hooks to a desired anchor point. Then stretch the strap over your cargo and secure the other hook to a point on the opposite side of your truck or trailer. Each hook has a wide opening, making it hassle-free to maneuver and attach the hooks to your anchor points.

Once the hooks are in place, tighten the webbing around the cargo and activate the shocks. To tighten the strap, crank the ratchet mechanism until the webbing is taut around your load. Be sure not to overtighten the strap. If your hand cannot fit between the shock and the safety strap, the strap is too tight.

To activate the shocks, tighten the strap a bit more, stretching the shocks until light is visible through the bolt holes in each shock. In warm climates, the shocks can stretch up to 2", while in subzero climates you may only get about 1/2" of give.

Finally, after tightening the webbing and stretching the shocks, make sure your cargo is completely secure and then tie off any extra slack.

Additional ShockStrap accessories can be added to help with load securement. Use the ShockStrap strap latches (297-2STY - sold separately) to secure the hooks on this tie-down strap to anchor points, ensuring that the hooks won't pop off while you are securing your load or while you are traveling.

Strong, Durable Construction

The sturdy, UV-resistant polyester webbing of this tie-down strap has a high tolerance for abrasion and water absorption.

The shocks are made of urethane, which can withstand elements such as sunlight, saltwater, moisture, oil, fungi, and most chemicals. These shocks can function in nearly any temperature, holding up to hot and cold weather conditions without losing elasticity or becoming unyielding or brittle over time.

The rust-resistant, yellow zinc chromate coating on the ratchet and hardware holds up to the varying weather conditions.

A safety strap is also built into this tie-down to provide peace of mind should something happen to the shocks. This safety strap ensures that if the tie-down is used improperly, overloaded, or unduly stretched, your cargo will remain secured.

Video Transcript for ShockStrap Ratchet Tie-Down Strap w/ Shock Absorber Review

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out these ratchet straps from ShockStraps, and what these are gonna do, are they're gonna have shock absorbers built into them so when you're hauling something with a suspension, like I threw my vehicle up on the trailer today. So as you go, it's gonna bounce if you hit bumps. And that's gonna compress down on that shock absorber and all that shock's gonna stay there, rather than if you just had regular ratchet straps, that wear and tear would go straight on the strap. So as it goes up and down going down the road, that's gonna tighten and loosen those straps and just wear them down over time. You're gonna have to stop pretty frequently to make sure they're still tight.

You won't have to do it with these. Let's check it out. This is the shock absorber I'm talking about right here. It's a made out of urethane. It's very durable.

It's not just a rubber band. I can't pull it tight. The ratchet pulls it out a little bit more, and that's gonna be great for absorbing that shock. Like I said, when you hit a bump and the vehicle shifts, instead of putting all that pressure on the straps and tighten and loosen them, it's gonna go here instead. And this is made to pull out a little bit more or compress a little bit.

So it's gonna absorb that and keep it all here instead of damaging your straps. Now, if something was to happen to the urethane, you're only supposed to stretch it out with that ratchet strap from 1/2 inch all the way to a two inch, no more than that. Then it could cause issues. But if you we're to do that and something happened and this broke, you do have the safety strap here, still sewed in. So it's not gonna just detach and come off, you still have this as backup.

The strap itself is gonna be a made of a polyester webbing. So it's gonna last in those elements. You don't have to worry about it ripping and tearing easily. It's pretty strong. Think about it like a seatbelt. You can't really get it to wear out in one place and just compromise the whole thing. And coming down here, you can see the extra stitching on all the stress points. So it's gonna pull hard here and then up here by the ratcheting mechanism, it's all reinforced to last a long time. The way it attaches, it has a snap hook on both sides. So you have this right here. So when you go to put it on the D ring, it's gonna hit that and go right into place. And then it's locked on. I really like that, especially when you're going to ratchet stuff down from back and forth. I've used the double J hooks and the flat hooks. And those are nice. But if it's not tightened down, it's just gonna kind of fall on the trailer. This one snaps into place. So you don't have to worry about this coming off before you get it nice and tight. Take a look at the ratchet mechanism. It's pretty heavy-duty. I like it. It's easy to use. There's plenty of room to get your hand in there to undo it like that. Or even to get it ratcheted. My whole hand fits in this for the handle, which I like that. Sometimes you only get a couple fingers in there. And when you're going to ratchet down one of these vehicles, you want to make sure it's really tight. So you want to get a whole hand on there and really tighten it down. And you can do that with this mechanism just fine. Now, another thing is, much like all the other hardware that is this, it's gonna be a yellow zinc chromate on there. So you don't have to worry about the elements bothering it. If you do leave this attached overnight on your trailer or run into some rain, it's not gonna rust or corrode on ya. It's gonna hold up. The other end also has a snap hook on there. And right now we're actually using it in combination with the axle strap. I recommend that if you're gonna be hauling vehicles. It's just easier on the vehicle and you can get that attachment point without damaging underneath. So the strap we're using today is gonna be the nine foot version. Now there's also a 12 foot and an 18 foot version. So whatever you need, we got that on our website. They're all gonna be two inches thickness here. You can see the straps are all gonna be the same on those. And the weight capacities are gonna be the same too. So each one of these are gonna have a safe working load limit of 3,333 pounds. And that goes per strap. So when you add a strap, that doubles that up. We always recommend you use at least two when strapping down a big load. But with a vehicle, you're probably gonna need four. So they come in quantities of two or quantities of one, and that goes for all of them. And they're gonna have a brake strength of 10,000 pounds. So also keep that in mind with whatever you're tying down. They're really easy to use and they don't take any time to set up. I like how heavy duty they are too. And they really do feel like they can handle the job. I'm not worried about transporting my vehicle on this trailer. Now you still have to get out and check it from time to time. They're not perfect, but I mean, you just want to do that to be safe when you're hauling something like this as well. Another thing I really like is that they're made in the US. So that's kind of rare these days, so I know and have more faith in them that they're gonna hold up. Let's see how easy they are to install. Before we install the back straps, I just want to tell you that we went ahead and did the front ones already. It's always good to get those installed. Ratcheted forward a little bit. That way doesn't rock back and forth when you're ratcheting the backside as well. Now we're gonna go ahead and hook it up. So what we're gonna do on this side, I'm using a D ring stake pocket. It's got a pin and clip, and then when we ratchet it down. So I'm just gonna use the side with our shock absorber. Put that on, and now we'll go to the other side. Now before I get underneath the vehicle, it's gonna be hard to see down there, but just wanted to show you what we're using. I'm using an actual strap from ShockStrap. So that's recommended if you're hauling a vehicle, and you have these straps that don't have the safety loops or anything to go with down and tie onto. These hooks won't snap onto your axle, obviously, and you don't want to just attach to anything straight metal underneath your vehicle. So you can use this. Wrap it around the axle and attach your snap hook here. And that's what we're gonna do underneath. So I'm gonna take the strap and go over the top of the axle, just like this. But make sure you don't wrap it around a sway bar or anything. So I'm gonna go underneath that. And just keep it around the axle and bring both hooks on this side. So when we ratchet it down, it's only gonna pull on that axle. It's not gonna pull on that bar underneath either. Now I'll bring the snap hook on. Put these into place. It's really easy 'cause you just push against that bottom part and it snaps right in. Now that's attached, we're gonna go back to the ratchet mechanism and tighten it down. Pulled the extra out of that strap and come back to the ratchet mechanism. And start getting it tight. Something to remember when using the ShockStrap is that it's okay to get it to stretch out to 1/2 inch all the way up to two inches, then any more than that is not advised. Then you will cause issues the shock absorber right here. So let's let them go a couple more turns. That seems nice and tight there. And another thing to double-check is as long as you can put your hand between the safety strap here and the urethane, then it's on there good and tight. If there's no room for your hand then it's too tight. Overall, these straps we're really easy to use. It didn't take me any time to set it up. Now, in combination with that axle strap, it really helped me strap down the vehicle. And I know that I'm not gonna have to check it as frequently as I go down the road, as I normally would with a regular strap. Well, that does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helped..

These tie down straps are the best! Trailered my Harley long distances with no issues. Feel very secure using these. 100% recommend!

by:

This is exactly what I needed, fantastic product, very well made and incredible service! I placed my order and in about 36 hours it was at my doorstep, you can't beat that!

by:

I use these to tie down Honda Rancher ATVs, I took out the rubber shock as it's useless(too stiff) for the weight of the ATV and provides no shock motion. The strap itself is unbeatable. Heavy duty, with the loop and latching hook that make this strap a super safe option. The strap and hook WILL NOT come off going down a rough road, due to the safety mechanisms. Well worth the price if you want long lasting AND safety as peace of mind.

by:

Like everyone else I would go through the efforts of strapping down a utv only to see my ratchet straps hanging off the trailer as I look at my review mirror 10 minutes into my trip. Never again! Used these on a 200 mile round trip down all kinds of roads (freeway, country roads, dirt roads, etc) and never had to adjust or tighten them. A must have.

by:

These straps are great. The are strong and allow for some movement of the motorcycles without have the straps break or come loose. The Harley was transported to Las Vegas and back, 2500 miles with no issues.

by:

Best strap I have had for timing down my Polaris Ranger!

by:

Great straps. This is my second set. I gave the first set to my brother as a gift. I bought me a set. We haul everything from UTV’s, 4-wheelers as well as tractors and skid steers. Shock Straps are the best straps I have ever used. They are strong and never come loose.

by:

These work fantastic! Best i have ever used. Nuff said!

by:

Way better than standard tie downs. Holds better if you tighten enough as compared to standard tie down and does not slack up

by:

I ordered these to strap down an ATV for several hour highway trips during hunting season. They work great and my atv does not bounce around and loosen the straps like traditional ratchet straps do. I've recommended to several friends who have also ordered and have the same success. Great product!

by:

great product works good for me

by:

These are just what I was looking for and more. Was looking for motorcycle tie-down that wrapped around handlebars. The shock absorber is a bonus.

by:

The product performed as it was advertised. The straps were well constructed and it was obvious a great deal of thought went into the design. I shoot sporting clay targets and haul a John Deere Gator 825 XUV to events, as a means of transportation around the course. Roads traveling to and from events, often, are gravel or dirt. This can and does create rough road surfaces to pull trailers and XUVs on. I used the Shock Straps this past week and watched to Gator as I drove on some rough terrain. The Gator did not move or sway during the trip. When I got to my destination, the straps were as tight as when I left for the trip. There was absolutely no play in the straps. Previously, I was always adjusting the straps and the XUV would rock and bounce on rough terrain. No any more.

This review is more of etrailer not a product. Ordered these tiedowns for a birthday gift. Website indicated delivery in 4 to 5 days. They didn’t even ship for nearly a week, birthday came and went its need 12 days since ordering and still have not received the item. If you really want these tiedowns, find them somewhere else other than etrailer.

by:

I should have bought the straps that bolt to the trailer.
These work but not much need for the shock feature or the loops at the end of the strap.

by:

Excellent product. The heat does cause the rubber coating on the hooks if they're tied down for any length of time. Sometimes the locking mechanism gets stuck in an in-between position and it's difficult to unlock; however, these are still the best straps I've ever had and I've had zero load shifting problems or broken straps. I will definitely buy a second set.

by:

Awesome product, performs better than I expected. Super strong and built well. Well worth the money invested.

by:

Have not used them yet, but these straps are heavy duty and well made for motorcycle use. They fit the bill nicely!

by:

The etrailer team set up my account for no sales tax (we are a school) quick and easy. Once I placed my order, it arrived just as quick. I recommend etrailer very highly.

by:

I was looking for tie down straps to haul my ATV as well as my garden tractor. The standard straps were okay but did seem to loosen up after traveling for awhile. So I took a chance on these ones based on the details one etrailer as well as reviews. I have not been disappointed. They worked as described and do not loosen in transit. I would definitely purchase again.

by:

Looks like an excellent product from all the reviews and highly recommended by Dirt Trax TV. Delivery was good although it was one day late but not e-trailers fault. The tracking was excellent. I could see where my package was at any moment. Will post more once I actually use the product.

by:

WELL MADE HEAVY DUTY, WISH THEY HAD THE CARRY BAG

by:

Geesh these are really large! Bought these over the 1.5" as it was almost the same price. But now getting them, I almost wish I got the small version for our Dirt Bikes. But these will for sure more then do! Heck.. I could even use them to pull a car out of a mud pit with these 2"ers. I'll keep them vs swapping for the smaller..

by:

Easy to assemble, easy to use. I lug around my 450SXF on my 2005 Prius. Works great.

by:

These shock straps are great for hauling our ATV. We had been using just regular ratchet straps and had to stop several times to tighten them back up, but with these shock straps, they stay tight the whole trip! They are truly wonderful!
