Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Wind Sensor for Solera Smart Arm 12V Power RV Awnings

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Solera Smart Arms wind sensor kit. This is designed to work with the Solera smart arm assembly which is sold separately. Now the wind sensor is designed to automatically retract your awning if severe wind is detected based on the wind setting that is programmed by the operator. So you can actually program the unit and toggle between three different levels of wind sensitivity. Or you can also completely deactivate the wind sensor altogether. It comes with the sensor, the harness, the plug and the mounting screw. It mounts below the drive head on the outer arm and plugs into the wires from the smart arm touch pad by snapping the connectors together. And that's going to do it for today's look at the Solera Smart Arms wind sensor kit..

As of yet, the sensor has not had a chance to "perform". I am sure when and if it is asked to do its job, it will!!

by:

Glad I got this part to go on the SmartArm controller. I am sure it will save me from worrying about the awning in a wind storm.

Wind sensor has worked as expected. Setting the wind speed has worked well and keeps the awning from getting damaged.

@Bob That sure is a neat feature, we're glad it's working well for you!

The wire connector running from the recently purchased wind sensor module is incompatible with the factory-installed wire connector leading to the Smart Arm touch pad assembly.

The harness that you plug the Wind Sensor into is located in the outer arm above the top of the wire cover, below the motor head. There may be a black cap over it that needs to be removed.

Have only received wind sensor, have not installed yet, will know when installed

I'm a mobile RV service tech and so I have a bit of experience with parts and service. I had a customer call me that had awning arms and motor damage due to an unexpected storm. I have a good working relationship with a local parts and service supplier of which I typically source all my needed parts with. They did not have what I needed nor were they able to find available to order what I needed as the manufacturer was out of stock as well as many other retailers. I've found this set with etrailer at a very reasonable price even though it was an upgrade to a Smart Arm. I placed the order on the 6th, received the items on the 8th, and had the installation done on the 9th. Quite exceptionally different and better than all the other options that I found. I also talked with customer service to be sure this product was available to ship immediately, as many times on the internet sites say they have the part in stock, until you actually place the order. The person was very helpful and gave me their direct extension in case I needed anything further. My experience has definitely been well above average in our current market and economy. I plan on keeping etrailer at the top of my list for future needs.

This is an absolute must! We lost our original awning when an unexpected windstorm kicked up on our first camping trip of 2022, so when we purchased a new awning we purchased the wind sensor too. The sensor allows you to set the sensitivity level which is convenient and puts your mind at ease on those windy days.

by:

Product works fine but the arm did not come with the mount for the sensor. Had to rig it in place with straps while dealing with manufacturer (Lippert). Extremely frustrating. eTrailer sends you to Lippert, then Lippert sends you back to eTrailer. Round and round we go!

by:

I ordered the solera smart arm wind sensor and that was the item I received, but the instructions that came with the sensor was the IR security sensor installation guide. At first I thought I received the correct product, but went on line to figure out what I had. Right product, but incorrect instructions. Shipment was excellent and received 3 days after ordering.

by:

I don't have to worry about the wind ruining my awning anymore! This works excellent! Gives me a sense of security

Product continues to work GREAT! The sensor on my awning has not failed me yet. It is worth the investment!

by:

The wind sensor works good and gives me a peace of mind if I am away and the wind picks up . It was easy to instal . Lippert makes a good product .

by:

Everyone I talked to was easy to understand and extremely pleasant, which is unusual these days, sadly. Even though the item was damaged in shipping, and no fault of etrailer, they made everything right in a very timely manner, I couldn’t have asked for better customer service. Great people and great company

by:

Can't wait to install the wind sensor. Install looks very easy.

by:

I have not installed it yet, but it looks well made, it is small and will be easy to conceal in the cabinet above the door.

by:

A great product for a good price from a company with wonderful customer service.

As long as you have the Solera Smart Arm this sensor should work for you. What model of awning do you have?

by:

I feel like this is a must have, works great and puts your mind at ease when heavy winds or storms come through.

by:

The sensor has worked perfectly. You can set it for your desired sensitivity and that worked great in gusty weather.

by:

Love this accessory on my awning. Auto out and auto in if windy.

by:

The awning was realitivly easy to install and works great!

by:

Very easy to install and arrived about a week after ordering.
I reallly like the two touch auto roll out feature

by:

  • Will The Solera Awning Conversion Kit LC759516 Work With The Existing Fabric And Roller On My RV?
It sounds like you are on the right track here Ryan. The Solera Smart Arm Electric RV Awning Conversion Kit # LC759516 will indeed work with the existing fabric and roller on your RV. The conversion kit will come with everything you need to replace both of the damaged arms. You will want to grab some Butyl Tape such as the Alpha Systems Butyl Tape # AL28FJ to seal the wall of the RV. You may also want some Non-Sag Sealant # AL43KV, but other than that there is nothing additional you will...

  • Determining Correct Manual Crank To Power Awning Conversion Kit For Awning On 2006 Weekend Warrior
Depending on which brand awning your 2006 Weekend Warrior has there may be a conversion kit to make it electric. For example if your awning is a Solera you can use the Solera Manual Crank Style to Power Awning Conversion Kit # LC337728 to convert it to electric. If you can tell me what brand awning you have I would be happy to see if there is a conversion kit made. I have also included a link to all of our awning conversion kits for you to take a look at.

There is an option to add a wind sensor to the Solera Smart Arm 12V Power RV Awning - 16' Wide - Programmable - Black Fade # LC517486. All you need for this is the Wind Sensor for Solera Smart Arm 12V Power RV Awnings # LC715123. The only other thing you may need is two of the Awning Rail # LC715217, unless you already have the rail (which you will if this is a replacement and not adding a new awning). Also keep in mind the auto level you have won't control the awning, as its Smart Arm...

  • Can a Wind Sensor Be Added to a Solera Power Awning
As long as your Solera power awning is one of the Solera Smart Arm awnings like the Solera Smart Arm Electric RV Awning # LC759517, then you can add the Wind Sensor for Solera Smart Arm 12V Power RV Awnings # LC715123. The Wind Sensor for Solera Smart Arm 12V Power RV Awnings # LC715123 is only compatible with Solera Smart Arm awnings. So if your awning is not a Solera Smart Arm awning, then you would not be able to use the wind sensor.

  • Solera Awning Flaps In Even Light Winds
Wind is super frustrating with awnings as the only solution is to roll the awning up to prevent flapping. If yours is flapping in even lighter winds that could mean your awning is wound tight enough and there isn't enough tension in the fabric. You want to wind the roller 14 times to get the correct tension. If you had a Solera Smart Arm awning you could add a wind sensor with part # LC715123 which automatically retracts the awning when it detects wind based on three sensitivity settings.

  • How Does Wind Trigger Solera Smart Arm Wind Sensor Kit
I reached out to Lippert, the manufacturer, about what will trigger the Solera Smart Arm Wind Sensor Kit # LC715123. They told me that it is not actually a certain miles per hour of wind that will trigger the awning closing with this kit. The way it works is that the kit actually senses vibration in the Smart Arms this attaches to, and that is what the kit senses to know when to close the awning. It has three levels of sensitivity (or can be turned off) that detect different levels of...
