Will The 55A WF86FR Converter Power Center Charge My RV Batteries Faster Than The 40A Model?

Question:

I’m debating between the 40 amp and 55 amp version. Will I actually notice a difference in charge time?

Good question, Tyler.

Yes - the WFCO RV converter power center # WF86FR 55A will recharge a battery bank faster than the # WF46FR 40A, especially during bulk charging.

That said, the difference is most noticeable when:
-You’re running dual batteries
-You’re using lithium
-You’re trying to recharge quickly during short generator/shore power runs

If you’re mostly plugged into shore power and running one battery, you likely won’t see a dramatic difference since it doesn't take a crazy amount of amperage to charge one single 12v battery.

Another thing to note is the different size and cutout requirements. The # WF86FR requires a larger rough opening of 12-3/16" wide x 11" tall, while the # WF46FR fits a smaller 10-3/8" wide and 7" tall opening.

What battery bank are you currently running?

I just have a dual 100ah lithium setup. so I guess that's 200ah 12v?

@Tyler Yes you are correct; someone knows their Ohm's Law haha. I think you would be fine with either option to be honest! That's a sort of middle of the road ah rating for a battery bank so it comes down to what cutout works better for you. If you want the fastest charging, then the 55A # WF86FR would be better though.

@AndrewN I'll just go with the 55a since I may upgrade batteries down the road. thanks
