These Thule SquareBar Evo crossbars are built from galvanized steel for serious hauling. With a weight capacity of 220 lbs, they can handle kayaks, cargo boxes, or camping gear without flexing. The steel core gives them a solid feel that stays stable even on long highway drives with a full load up top.
The polymer coating on each bar adds more than just a clean black look—it helps your gear stay put and resists corrosion over time. The textured surface provides extra grip for the accessories clamped around it, while the coating keeps rust away through years of exposure to rain, salt, and sun.
This rack system installs directly to the flush rails using a custom fit kit and four Evo Flush Rail feet. The snug, low-profile setup keeps everything tight and aligned across your roofline. Once mounted, it looks like part of the vehicle rather than an add-on strapped over the top.
The square bar design makes it easy to attach just about any clamp-on accessory—whether you’re carrying a kayak, canoe, or rooftop box. It’s a straightforward system that lets you swap gear quickly from one adventure to the next without special adapters or tools.
You can upgrade this setup with Thule One-Key System locks (sold separately) for extra theft deterrence. That means you can lock both the rack and your mounted gear with a single key, giving you peace of mind when you’re away from your vehicle overnight or parked at the trailhead.
Ratings & Reviews
Well packaged, arrived in good condition. Works as expected. Would be great to have additional fitment information available. The underside channels of the 53” bars were just barely long enough to fit Leer cap track system spaced 40” apart using the rapid podium feet (phew). Thought from the measurements there would be some room to spare but didn’t account for the angle of the podium feet.
The bars are nice but Thule pointedly does not include under bar cover strips with this style of bars. They include these strips with the other three styles of bars they sell. Including these strips would cut the wind noise these bars produce substantially. I overcame this omission by re-using an old 5/8 inch ID (7/8 inch OD) garden hose that I cut up and slid inside the bars from the ends.
What a great experience! I spoke or corresponded several times with representatives about technical or ordering issues, and they were uniformly very helpful and courteous. They matched a small difference in price from another vendor and were really helpful in making the decision about what to buy. The Thule items are really high quality and, in spite of instructions that would make Ikea embarrassed, weren't difficult to assemble and install. (I recommend checking for relevant videos online.) I give etrailer.com and the parts an unqualified 5-star rating. One of my best online experiences ever.
Thule products are not the cheapest but they are just so well engineered it brings a smile to your face every time you assemble them. I have 7 year old aero blade bars and bought these foot packs (and fit kit) for a new car. Taking off the old feet off the bars was flawless - every part, whether plastic, rubber or metal is still perfect after 7 years of use and shed storage.
Etrailer were fabulous as usual - initial phone consultation to confirm feet will fit old bars and then quick online ordering etc.
Classic square bar, but modern integration with the podium feet. Exactly what I was looking for.
I bought this rack to transport my recreational kayaks and it works great! With the addition of a Llama "v" rack I'm all set to transport my 21'5" tandem. Good fun. The Thule is the base and I couldn't be happier with it!
etrailer was the only place that was able to provide a solution for me! I have a 2022 GLC Benz with panoramic roof. I spent many $$ for Benz’s own cross bars. They looked great…integrated with the roof seamlessly. But I couldn’t open the panoramic roof! MAJOR FAIL!!
etrailer customized a set of Thule cross bars that not only work with my panoramic roof but are quieter and look even better than the Benz product. MAJOR AWESOME to etrailer. Now listing my Benz cross bars on Craigs.
I've had the roof rack for a year now and we only use it sporadically in the winter to put the ski box ontop of the car but it works great. Very easy to install and remove and very sturdy. Previously I had the kind that bolted into the roof of my SUV and had a terrible experience with that (we lost the rack and kayaks on the freeway and it tore holes in my roof). The clamp style is the only kind we'll get from now on because they are much sturdier and no risk of losing them. Definitely recommend them.
I ordered them to replace some that rusted out but still work. I plan to put them in when I give the car to an 18 year old to use for college.
This review is about the cross bars, the towers, clamps and pads made by Thule from the etrailer site. The instructions were straightforward, and the parts were clearly identified and labelled. Installation was easy, primarily because of the availability of instructional videos etrailer provided on line. Seeing it done from start to finish made the installation quite easy and straightforward. Looking forward to using my new roof system to transport our kayak this summer! Am very satisfied.
Thule makes great products
And etrailer makes it too easy to get when needed.
etrailer.com was excellent to do business with. Their website is informative, complete and easy to navigate. Phone service to help confirm availability of my product and their general knowledge of their products was impressive. Product arrived on time and in good shape. Their order tracking system is also very good. I’m very pleased with the Thule Wingbar Evo 135 racks For my BMW X5 with flush roof rails. They are super sturdy, solidly mounted and look good on the vehicle. Mine will be mainly used for surfboards and SUP’s. The assembly and installation was a breeze. The included written instructions would have been sufficient for a seamless installation but I also watched one of many YouTube videos that demonstrated very clearly every step of assembly and installation for this specific set of racks.
Love the racks!! I highly recommend etrailer.com for your roof rack needs.
I ordered the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars - Aluminum - Silver - 50" with the Evo Flush Rail Feet for Thule Crossbars - Flush Side Rails and the Fit Kit for Thule Evo Flush Rail and Edge Flush Rail Roof Rack Feet for my 2020 Mazda CX9. I appreciated the product selector to make sure I was getting all the correct parts. I was happy with the products, but I did run into an issue where 1 of the rail feet had a defective bolt which required a replacement. I was very satisfied with etrailer's customer support, and how well they worked with me to get the part replaced quickly. I'm giving this a 4 start only because of the hassle of receiving a defective one initially
Very pleased with order. Shipped fast, not damaged, all parts accounted for. Easy install, very sturdy, and attractive design. Slight wind noise but that was expected compared to not having a roof rack.
Easy to assemble and install. Love the way etrailer packages everything you need and they all are correct for the vehicle you are mounting them on. Once installed they appear very strong. Installed on a 2023 Chevy Tahoe and did not interfere with the sunroof.
I’ve had it on my 2021 Kia Telluride now for a few months and it works great. When I was mounting the forward bar, I opened the sun roof to make sure I was comfortable with the roof window and bar clearance.
So far so good! The ease of installation was incredible. Pop the fit kit together, put it on the bar and install. Everything is straight forward with the directions. Its even easier if you find a video of the installation. The rack definitely has a little bit of a whistle to it but its kinda expected when you disrupt the airflow. I'm going to pick up my new kayak tomorrow and couldn't be happier! Not the best photo but its all i got at the moment lol.
Rock Solid and good looking. Expensive but worth it!
Thule Rack looks awesome on my Kia Telluride. Products took a while to get to me because they were on backorder but it's not etrailer, they were on backorder everywhere. I messed up one of the pieces of rubber while installing and etrailer sent me a new one at no charge. Definitely recommend etrailer.
Website is easy to use & is better at putting together the correct package than Thule’s site.
etrailer had all the parts in stock for my 2020 Kia Telluride.
Payment process was simple.
Received periodic updates from staffer on my order & could actually reply if needed.
Installing the roof rack went well. Estimate start to finish was about 2 hours. Found it best to really examine each diagram in Thule’s step by step instructions to get it all right on the first try.
Hardness part of the installation was getting the crossbars installed at the proper distances. A tailor’s soft measuring tape & some masking were great aids.
About a year ago we purchased two Thule Hullavator Pro kayak racks along with a Thule SquareBar Roof Rack for mounting. The combination worked out very well and we headed from Colorado Springs to Duvall Washington outside of Seattle with three stops along the way to kayak. The trip went smoothly and we appreciated the Hullavator ease lifting the boats. We have two more trips planned in the near future. We did mount the boats with cockpits down to avoid filling with water when traveling without a problem.
Thule has great quality and trailer is a great place to order from, highly recommend both!
I have a Corolla sedan SE 2024 and putting the proper tongue into the proper feet for that particular car and then adding the bar and placing it on the car a specific amount of the distance between etcetera warrants a small, very short video for that specific car--for every specific car, otherwise you wind up taking 2 hours to do a very simple job. Also one of the bars had a slight bow in. It was not exactly straight, which made the placement even more difficult. So all in all it was only average.
It took me a VERY long time to figure out what I needed to mount my Hullivator on my 22 Subaru Outback Limited. I bought the wrong parts on round 1, and finally after 2 yrs of frustration, asked AI what I needed. I don't entirely trust AI, but it got me on the right track. I asked the 'chat' person on etrailer about the AI suggestion, and the gal who helped me, Autumn, said the feet part was correct, but to use these feet and the TH37CE fit kit. I ordered immediately. Today was the day. Of note, the fit kit has specific parts for the front and rear passenger and front and rear driver side. Pay attention to the photo directions. The parts are different for each side. On my Outback, they mount at 69cm apart on the Subaru rails (folded in) on the Thule Wingbar Evo 55" bars. The cladding and design of the Outback roof system leaves much to be desired, but this worked and I'm looking forward to FINALLY using my Hullivator.
