Video Transcript for MORryde Spare Tire Mounted Jerry Can Holder Installation - 2009 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

What's up, everybody. It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this jerrycan holder from MORryde. This is going to mount to your spare tire on your Jeep Wrangler, and we're installing it on a 2009 Jeep Wrangler here today. It's gonna be a good way to hold this can outside of your Jeep, that way you don't have fumes on the inside if the top's not down, plus, it's just kind of out of the way, and gives you more room for gear on the inside. Let's check it out.

It's made out of black powder coat steel, so it's nice and sturdy. I can shake the whole Jeep just from this canister. So, you can see there's not much rattling, maybe just the ratchet strap hitting there. That's right on there, that's not even moving. It's not a big deal, but it's going to hold it in place, which is good, because you're going to be off-roading with this on the back, you don't want it going anywhere.

The ratchet strap's included, with the tie-down points here too. You can see there's one here, and there's going to be one in the back as well, just specifically made for those hooks to get in there like that, so you can ratchet it down. I'm pretty impressed with the tray. There's a lot of little things that I really like about it. Like being able to remove this.

That way you don't have to have it on here all the time, if you're not going to use the gas can, or the tie-down points that are built in on the sides and the front. That way, either way it's sitting, you can get a strap down. You can even use two ratchet straps if you're that worried about it. Another thing is this mat that sticks in there. Might seem like not that big a deal, but it's going to keep that rattling down from that metal on metal.

So now it'll sit on this pad, and you won't hear any noise. Now, how hard is it to install Well, it's not that bad. It's just a couple bolts. You have to remove the tire, and put the bracket on, but it was pretty easy. It didn't take us that long. You should follow along. First step's gonna be to remove the spare tire. Just come up here. I'll put it right over here, because we're gonna put it right back on here in a second. Now, let's put the mount adapter right there. Make sure it matches up. You want the hole here to be up top, 'cause that's where the tray is gonna go when we go put the spare tire back on. Now we'll come back to the spare tire and remove this center cap, so that the mounting adaptor can go through. So, just gonna gently pry on the side to kind of loosen it up and push it back out. Just like that. Now, I'm gonna lift up the spare tire, and set it into place. I got the hardware in my pocket, so you can easily reach in there, and hold the tire in place, and kind of screw it down. Lift it up. Get it lined up and I'll get one of the bolts back on there. With one of them holding in place, I can go back and add the others. Let's go back through, tighten it down. We'll put our mounting tray into place. See how the holes align there with this slot, and we'll use our hardware. We'll use the half inch bolt, the washer, and lock washer. Get that hand tightened, and come back and tighten it down. Now we're ready to set our tray up, go and line up those holes. Then we'll drop the hardware in. We're gonna use these drop-in screws here at the top. Let's go ahead and set them all in place, make sure it stays aligned. And then I'll go underneath, and we'll put a washer, and then a nut on. We'll get that started by hand, then I'll come back through and tighten them all down. Now, we'll set in our foam padding. It does have a back that you can peel off and stick it permanently, but since this isn't staying on this Jeep, we're just going to set it in place. Now, with the jerrycan here, we're gonna go ahead and run the ratchet strap that came with it. It's kind of best to leave it out, the jerrycan out of place just for a second, because on the back, the clip, or the hook, I'm sorry, can make contact with the can and that bar, I'll show you in just a second, let me get this run. So, when this was set into place, there wasn't enough room to tilt this back, and get this in the slot that's there for you. So, with the can out of place, gives us just a little bit more room to loosely install this hook. Now with it in place, I can set the can back down, pull out the slack, and then ratchet it down. Now, you can see it's not going anywhere. Overall, I think it's a fine addition to your Jeep, especially if you're carrying these fuel canisters, these jerrycans around. You don't really want to be hauling them in your Jeep. You don't want to be smelling that gasoline if the top's up, plus you probably just want more room in there for your passengers or more gear. So, it's nice that this is on the outside, kind of out of sight, out of mind, you don't have to worry about it, and it's secure. It's not going anywhere. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helped..

This suits our purpose perfectly to extend our range in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport and provide a little piece of mind with an extra 5 gal Jerry can. We use it in "the Maze" and in the other wilds of Utah. The tray is easily removed/reinstalled with the lug wrench.
