Love it, great strong step.
Needed little
grinding on nuts that hold main plate to tongue assembly, they are too close to hitch entry point, make assembly wider! Pin hole barely lined up due to nuts hitting hitch and after grinding nuts slightly hole was barely lined up. Chamfered leading edge of my locking pin and drove it in with hammer, will have to drive out to tow so pain if its on an off a-lot. Gives it a tight e rattle free fit tho!
Don’t expect slip on from package, needs fitting..

by:

It has worked very well. Very pleased with the product. My kids now have an easier time stepping up into the back of my land cruiser. My only "complaint" is that it doesn't fit perfectly tight in the hitch and will rotate very slightly. But, I have never had a problem with it rattling when I drive. Would definitely purchase again.

by:

Yes, it is expensive..but as the cliche says, "You get what you pay for". This step has performed flawlessly, including the time a 30 pound log rolled out and hit it (open) when I opened the tailgate.
Having seen and tried the cheaper alternatives (which I find small and somewhat less stable that the CARR product), I recommend it.
That said, I have two little issues with it.
1) The foot plate does not stand vertical unless the assembly screws are tightened all the way down. In doing that, moving the foot plate to horizontal then requires two hands, not a foot to push down.
2) The holes in the mounting bracket (where the retainer bolt goes through the hitch receiver) do not line up with my Draw-Tite hitch. if it was drilled about 1/2 inch shorter, the back plate of the step would be tight against the hitch receiver. Currently, it moves slightly, which is a little disconcerting when stepping down from the truck bed with a mountain bike in your hands. Also, wish it was of thicker steel.
Okay, there may be three issues, the CARR symbol looks like a Raiders football team logo, so being from Kansas City, it gets some comments.
Would I buy one again...in a heartbeat. And yes, I do have a locking hitch bolt, otherwise, I would be buying another one due to theft!
Lastly, make sure you put the step up when not is use. If you walk into with your shin, you'll only do that once.

Still hanging on! I would recommend it. It’s not the cheapest, but it will probably outlast the truck.

by:

I received this receiver step yesterday, installed it this morning on my P.U. truck. It will let me step up & put things over the tailgate without having to get a step stool. Then I can fold the step up so I don't hit my shin when I walk past the rear of the truck. It also looks nice.

I still like it very much.

by:

I didn't use for the intended purpose. I used it for the first step off our pool deck into the pools steps. Works great.

by:

First class strong construction

by:

I've now had this about a year. I did have to shim it up to keep it from rattling in the hitch, but overall I’m very happy with it. No issues with it folding up and down. I don’t keep it on 24/7 but I do take it with me several times a year when I go camping, it gets covered in mud and still has enough friction on the step itself to not feel slick at all and the folding mechanism seems to have held up just fine. I tend to sort of "land" on it when I'm getting out, I'm 240 lbs and it seems solid. I would buy it again.

by:

The insert of the step into the hitch was very loose. I had to drive two small nails between the insert and hitch holder which means the step is almost permanent and would require a hammer to remove. The insert needs to be a square and shims should be provided to secure in place.

by:

This product arrived in good shape and was just as advertised.

This step is being used on a 2013 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van with the factory hitch. Installed easy and works perfect for getting in an out of the back doors.

by:

First of all let me say that this step is well engineered and very well built. I only have two concerns. Number one, I found the spring retainer screws were loose. Upon fighting them I found the step would not stay folded. There was no tension on the spring. The screws needed to be left somewhat loose in order for the spring to engage the step. To solve this problem so the screws would not work themselves out I installed a lock nut on each screw. The second concern was the fit into my hitch receiver. This I solved by adding some shims until the fit was satisfactory. Overall I am pleased with the looks and function of the step.

by:

it works very well for my application..i mounted it on the front bumper of my motorhome so i could stand on it to wash the winshield. with the license mounted on the other side...thank you

by:

Very solid construction and great quality. One issue is that the bar that goes into the receiver should be longer to accommodate vehicles that have the receiver deeper under the rear bumper. I have a 2011 Mercedes Benz GL-450 and at the first set of holes the step is not fully locked in the upright position, it rests against the bump cover. I can accept this but not for $135. Carr does not carry a longer bar.

by:

Great product. Versatile , compatible with all step stool combos in either the up or down position.

Grear product. Still pleased

by:

As always, Carr makes a very good product. Had Carr Super Hoops on my previous truck and never had a problem. However, if Carr could make one slight improvement on the Mega Step, it should be to make the part that slips into the receiver, so that it would be just a bit more snugly fit. It has a little wiggle room when installed, allowing the step to have a bit of side to side movement. Nothing major, just a bit annoying. I plan to insert a shim to tighten the installation for my satisfaction. All in all, a good product.

by:

THE ONLY ITEM THAT WAS NOT UP TO PAR WAS THE FIT INTO THE RECEIVER, IT
WAS NOT A TIGHT FIT AND WILL RATTLE WHEN VEHICLE IS MOVING. IN READING
REVIEWS, I NOTICED THIS SAME COMPLAINT. I WOULD SUGGEST RE-ENGINERING
THE PART THAT FITS THE HITCH RECEIVER TO HAVE A MORE SNUG FIT, THEN IT
WOULD BE PERFECT.

by:

The fit in the receiver is kind of sloppy so it is going to cause a rattle when driving. The countersink for the assembly bolt holes does not match the angle of the shoulder of the bolt supplied. When you tighten the mounting bolts the head distorts thus locking the allen wrench in the bolt head. This makes the allen wrench extremely difficult to remove from the bolt. Times 4 bolts. I would buy another but only if I needed the ability to fold up so my truck will fit in a garage, or to keep my wife from running into the step.

by:

Well made and sturdy. Haven't had a chance to use it much yet. Make sure to check the two small spring screws when you install. Both of mine were loose. Only minor complaint is it could be a tighter fit in the hitch. Mine wobbles around quite a bit.

by:

The Carr Mega Step went on easily. Works perfect. The people at Etrailer were great. They were very efficient and always replied to my questions immediately. They didn't say "oh you have to talk to so and so about your order". They referred to my order immediately.
Thank you,
Bob in Houston, Tx.

by:

Thing worked great. It is rugged and doesn't get in the way of things and can easily be taken off the truck when I a not using the camper. I am happy

by:

I received my step (product cart 190011) today.
I put it together easily in 5 min. This is one heavy duty fold up step.I am very impressed with the quality.
I am a large man and it supports me fine, and makes getting things out of the back of my truck much easier

by:

This step is very sturdy! The textured surface prevents slipping in wet/muddy conditions. I liked it so much that I bought another one! The customer service from etrailer is terrific!

Thanks Guys

by:

Fits into the receiver nicely and seems to be well made. The only thing I wonder about is if the small screws holding the tension clip will stay in place over a period of time.

by:

Great on our service trucks to reach ladders and conduit rack.Very well built

by:

Wish i would have bought it a long time ago. Working out great.

by:

Great product. What I was looking for.

  • Carr Mega Step for Easier Access to Engine Compartment of 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500
The Carr Tow Hook Mounted Fold Up Steps will only fit Ford Super Duty trucks. They are designed to clamp onto the truck's tow hook, so they wouldn't fit your Silverado because the tow hook is different. This being said, Carr does offer a front hitch mounted step, part # CARR190011. If your Silverado doesn't have a front hitch receiver, you could use part # C31012.

  • Step Options for 2017 Ram ProMaster 136 Wheelbase
If a step was needed along one of the side doors on your 2017 Ram ProMaster 1500 you could install Carr Step for Cargo Vans - Grated Steel Platform - Galvanized - 24" Long - 500 lbs Item # CARR501090 which is a manually operated retractable step. You might be able to make it work at the back but I can't guarantee it. There aren't any electric options that will work. Another option, if the van has a 2 inch trailer hitch, is a step such as # CARR190011 or # HE3045. If it doesn't have a hitch...

  • How to Determine if the Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step # CARR190011 Will Clear Rear Door
If you measure from the top of your hitch opening up to the bottom of your rear doors and that distance is over 3-3/4 inches the Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step # CARR190011 that you referenced will clear. I went out and measured one that we have in stock to get that figure. If you plan to leave this on your vehicle you might also want a hitch lock to deter theft. For that you would want the # 1480DAT.

  • Recommended Hitch and Hitch Mounted Step for 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500
As long as your Sprinter doesn't have the 30-3/8 inch frame width (measured outside frame to outside frame) the Draw-Tite Class III hitch you'd looked at, part # 75549 would be a fit. For a large and very durable hitch mounted step, I'd highly recommend something like the Carr Mega Step, part # CARR190011 for silver or # CARR190011B for black. The step has a whopping 500 lb weight capacity, can can fold up when it's not needed. I'd also highly recommend a hitch lock like # e98882 to prevent...

  • Solution for Carr Mega Step Hitch Step Blocking License Plate
If the Carr Mega Step # CARR190011 blocks the license plate on your vehicles then your best option for using the step will be to relocate the plates with a bracket like the Optronics LED # LPL55CB. You can one for each of your vehicles to simply mount the plate in a different location. It just requires a flat surface that's at least 8-5/8" long and 3-1/4" tall. This bracket also includes a built-in LED to illuminate the license plate. I have attached a short video review that you can...

  • Widest Hitch-Mounted Steps For 2 Inch Trailer Hitch
We do have a couple options you may be interested in for a wider hitch mounted step. First, I recommend the Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step, part # CARR190011. This is a 14 inch wide fold-up step that has a weight capacity of 500 lbs. This step folds up when you travel and has a large 14 inch x 5 inch non-skid platform, and will fit a 2 inch receiver opening. The second step you may want to take a look at is the PortablePET Twistep Hitch Mounted Step, part # HE3052. This step has a platform...

We do have many styles of hitch-mount step including 2-step models like # RHS2 (which is a bit too wide for you at 17-inches) as well as lighted steps like # BBS-1104L. • How to Measure to Determine Fit of Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Hitch-Mount Step CARR190011
The USA-made Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Hitch-Mount Step # CARR190011 will fit into any 2-inch hitch so long as the hitch position at the vehicle's rear bumper provides clearance for the step's backing plate. On some vehicles the hitch opening may be recessed under the bumper and this might not allow enough clearance for the backing plate to clear the vehicle bumper. This is not usually the case with an F-150. Please have a look at the linked videos for this product which will help you determine...
