Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this car flat mount mega step, but it's a folding step. So folks, like I said, it is a nice folding step. It does fold up flat whenever you're not using it and you can simply just fold it back down when you are. It's gonna mount to your vehicle so that you can easily get up and access cargo and equipment. It does bolt onto commercial trucks, utility truck beds, any kind of other flat surface that can support 500 pounds.
I've heard people put 'em on tractors, trailers, heavy equipment, that kind of stuff, to help get 'em up and down easier as well. So like I just showed you, it does flip up. I'll go ahead and turn it to the side, show you that as well. And keep in mind, whenever it's bolted here, it's gonna be a lot easier for you to hold it down. There's a view of the back.
It's all made here in the USA. It's a very nice, sturdy, rough proof aluminum construction, and it's got a mechanical matte finish. It is a very simple bolting application. You got two brackets that go on the very backside and then you got all the hardware, the bolts, flat washers, and locking nuts. It's a nice extra large non-skid step surface.
It's gonna ensure nice footing. You can kind of see the rays, what I call waffles, those little tread guys there. Now as far as some dimensions, overall the step, I was getting 14 inches by 5 inches and it's about a half inch tall. Now, spinning this guy around for some mounting hole dimensions and first off, before the mounting hole dimensions. Overall in this guy I'm getting about 11 7/8 by 5 1/4.
So now for the nine holes, center to center sideways here or long ways, I got about 10 3/4 of an inch. And then whenever I did this way I got about 4 1/4, center to center. As you can see while I'm back on this view, it's got that nice spring steel in there. When this folds down, that's what's kind of activating. And then whenever you fold it up, when it's installed that spring there is helping you get that open and closed. So again, nice heavy duty step limited lifetime warranty ready to 500 pounds. I'm Steven, thank you so much for watching folks. Thanks for your time. Have fun installing this, and let us know in the reviews how you're using it.

My friend has one to step down into his boat from the deck. It is very well made and will serve the purpose as a foldaway step. Company was quick in shipping and the item was well packaged.
We mounted this on the front bumper of a long hooded dump truck for opening and closing hood. So far so good works as it should
It is a nice product, expensive, though nice.
It fits our 2017 Transit 150 van, with a Curt hitch from etrailer, perfectly. From the pics you will see it looks like it was designed for this vehicle. It cuts the factory distance to the step bumper in half. My old knees like it. My shins like. . .love the fold up position. Step is big enough that you can hit it stepping around a load in the van. Provides solid footing even when stepping off center. Two issues: 1) The price. A bit steep compared to price of a hitch. But if it helps save my knees it's worth it. 2) The mount is loose in the hitch receiver. Has a tendancy to wobble. Concerned about this surprising others. So I took a 7/8" id flat washer and cut it down to 2" wide with flats on oposite sides. I put it in from the front of the receiver and wedged it under the step mount. This stablized the step. And when it comes time to remove the step I'll be pulling it away from the washer, undoing the wedge.
Love it, great strong step.
Needed little grinding on nuts that hold main plate to tongue assembly, they are too close to hitch entry point, make assembly wider! Pin hole barely lined up due to nuts hitting hitch and after grinding nuts slightly hole was barely lined up. Chamfered leading edge of my locking pin and drove it in with hammer, will have to drive out to tow so pain if its on an off a-lot. Gives it a tight e rattle free fit tho!
Don’t expect slip on from package, needs fitting..
It has worked very well. Very pleased with the product. My kids now have an easier time stepping up into the back of my land cruiser. My only "complaint" is that it doesn't fit perfectly tight in the hitch and will rotate very slightly. But, I have never had a problem with it rattling when I drive. Would definitely purchase again.
Yes, it is expensive..but as the cliche says, "You get what you pay for". This step has performed flawlessly, including the time a 30 pound log rolled out and hit it (open) when I opened the tailgate.
Having seen and tried the cheaper alternatives (which I find small and somewhat less stable that the CARR product), I recommend it.
That said, I have two little issues with it.
1) The foot plate does not stand vertical unless the assembly screws are tightened all the way down. In doing that, moving the foot plate to horizontal then requires two hands, not a foot to push down.
2) The holes in the mounting bracket (where the retainer bolt goes through the hitch receiver) do not line up with my Draw-Tite hitch. if it was drilled about 1/2 inch shorter, the back plate of the step would be tight against the hitch receiver. Currently, it moves slightly, which is a little disconcerting when stepping down from the truck bed with a mountain bike in your hands. Also, wish it was of thicker steel.
Okay, there may be three issues, the CARR symbol looks like a Raiders football team logo, so being from Kansas City, it gets some comments.
Would I buy one again...in a heartbeat. And yes, I do have a locking hitch bolt, otherwise, I would be buying another one due to theft!
Lastly, make sure you put the step up when not is use. If you walk into with your shin, you'll only do that once.
Solid and legit!!!
I received this receiver step yesterday, installed it this morning on my P.U. truck. It will let me step up & put things over the tailgate without having to get a step stool. Then I can fold the step up so I don't hit my shin when I walk past the rear of the truck. It also looks nice.
I didn't use for the intended purpose. I used it for the first step off our pool deck into the pools steps. Works great.
First class strong construction
I've now had this about a year. I did have to shim it up to keep it from rattling in the hitch, but overall I’m very happy with it. No issues with it folding up and down. I don’t keep it on 24/7 but I do take it with me several times a year when I go camping, it gets covered in mud and still has enough friction on the step itself to not feel slick at all and the folding mechanism seems to have held up just fine. I tend to sort of "land" on it when I'm getting out, I'm 240 lbs and it seems solid. I would buy it again.
Very well made just received it today, perfect for the transit style van just the right size. The step is at a comfortable split between the ground and the bumper. It is just what I was looking for. Thank you.
The insert of the step into the hitch was very loose. I had to drive two small nails between the insert and hitch holder which means the step is almost permanent and would require a hammer to remove. The insert needs to be a square and shims should be provided to secure in place.
This product arrived in good shape and was just as advertised.
This step is being used on a 2013 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van with the factory hitch. Installed easy and works perfect for getting in an out of the back doors.
First of all let me say that this step is well engineered and very well built. I only have two concerns. Number one, I found the spring retainer screws were loose. Upon fighting them I found the step would not stay folded. There was no tension on the spring. The screws needed to be left somewhat loose in order for the spring to engage the step. To solve this problem so the screws would not work themselves out I installed a lock nut on each screw. The second concern was the fit into my hitch receiver. This I solved by adding some shims until the fit was satisfactory. Overall I am pleased with the looks and function of the step.
it works very well for my application..i mounted it on the front bumper of my motorhome so i could stand on it to wash the winshield. with the license mounted on the other side...thank you
Very solid construction and great quality. One issue is that the bar that goes into the receiver should be longer to accommodate vehicles that have the receiver deeper under the rear bumper. I have a 2011 Mercedes Benz GL-450 and at the first set of holes the step is not fully locked in the upright position, it rests against the bump cover. I can accept this but not for $135. Carr does not carry a longer bar.
As always, Carr makes a very good product. Had Carr Super Hoops on my previous truck and never had a problem. However, if Carr could make one slight improvement on the Mega Step, it should be to make the part that slips into the receiver, so that it would be just a bit more snugly fit. It has a little wiggle room when installed, allowing the step to have a bit of side to side movement. Nothing major, just a bit annoying. I plan to insert a shim to tighten the installation for my satisfaction. All in all, a good product.
Great product. Versatile , compatible with all step stool combos in either the up or down position.
great company to work with for trailer equipment
THE ONLY ITEM THAT WAS NOT UP TO PAR WAS THE FIT INTO THE RECEIVER, IT
WAS NOT A TIGHT FIT AND WILL RATTLE WHEN VEHICLE IS MOVING. IN READING
REVIEWS, I NOTICED THIS SAME COMPLAINT. I WOULD SUGGEST RE-ENGINERING
THE PART THAT FITS THE HITCH RECEIVER TO HAVE A MORE SNUG FIT, THEN IT
WOULD BE PERFECT.
Well made and sturdy. Haven't had a chance to use it much yet. Make sure to check the two small spring screws when you install. Both of mine were loose. Only minor complaint is it could be a tighter fit in the hitch. Mine wobbles around quite a bit.
Great on our service trucks to reach ladders and conduit rack.Very well built
i was very impressed with how solid this folding step is and when folded it seems to blend right in
