T2 Classic for 2" Hitches

The Thule T2 Classic platform-style bike rack lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The rack is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles, and it can hold bikes with fat tires up to 5" wide. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel trays secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The rack tilts down with bikes loaded so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it folds up when not in use.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Ratcheting Wheel Hook

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 2 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms and front wheel cradles securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply set your bike on the rack and pivot the upright arm up and over the front wheel. Then just ratchet the hook down so it firmly grips your wheel.

Wheel Hook Lock Core

The arms can also be locked in place with Thule One-Key System lock cylinders (TH512 - sold separately). One-Key System cylinders can be swapped out to make all of your Thule gear keyed alike.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle

The sliding rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long, and they accommodate tires up to 5" wide. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

Regular Strap Length

For road bikes and mountain bikes insert the strap into the hole at the bottom of the cradle. Then run the strap along the side and over the top of the cradle.

Fat Tire Strap Length

For fat tire bikes insert the strap under the bracket on the side of the cradle. Then simply run the strap over the top of the cradle.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and rear bike trays are fully adjustable to ensure you have enough space when mounting your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base, slide the tray front to back and side to side to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

HitchSwitch Lever

The integrated HitchSwitch lever allows the T2 Classic to easily tilt. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient rear cargo area access.

Rack Tilts Up for Storage

It also folds up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device

SnugTite Hitch Lock

The rack includes a SnugTite hitch lock and anti-rattle device. The hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch with the included One-Key System lock cylinder. And the threaded hitch pin eliminates movement and rattle in the hitch.

Optional 2-Bike Add-On

T2 Classic Add-On

There is a 2-bike add-on available (TH9046 - sold separately) for the T2 Classic that will allow you convert it from a 2-bike carrier to a 4-bike carrier. To install the add-on on your T2 Classic, simply remove the endcap from the bike rack base, slide the add-on's shank into the hole on the bike rack, and secure the shank with a bolt that comes with the add-on.

Video Transcript for Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Thule T2 classic platform-style tilting 2-bike rack, for 2-inch hitches, part number TH9044. Please note, it is not to be used for bikes with fenders. This platform-style 2-bike rack tilts down, even when the bikes are loaded, allowing full access to your rear hatch. Wheel hooks and wheel cradles secure your bikes in place. There is no frame contact. The wheel hooks ratchet in place to fit different size tires and can even be locked with a Thule locking core, with part number TH512.

The rear wheel straps are ratcheting as well, with a soft rubber pad to protect your wheels. We've gone ahead and removed the bike, so we can get a closer look. The rear wheel cradle is adjustable along the platform, allowing it to be adjusted for different wheel bases. Both front-wheel cradles are designed to fit multiple tire widths. You have your narrow tire like a road bike tire here, a larger mountain bike tire, and all the way up to a fat tire bike and up to 5 inches. The frame hooks pivot out of the way to make loading a bike easier.

The hooks also feature soft rubber padding. It's made out of a solid steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it's going to be stylish, and it's going to resist rust and corrosion. The T2 Classic has a weight capacity of 60 lbs. per bike, giving you a total of 120 lbs. It also features a limited lifetime warranty.

When not in use, the whole bike rack folds up against your vehicle. This will be ideal for pulling in your garage or in a tight parking spot. It's expandable up to 4 bikes with part number TH9046. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First, let's go ahead and load our shank into the receiver and line up our pin holes. We're going to take our included anti-rattle bolt and lock.

I'm going to thread it on the passenger side over here. Once we get that hand-tight, we can take our included tool and tighten it the rest of the way down. Once that's tight, we'll take our lock, put that on, turn our key to lock it in place, and then we've got it. Now, we can get ready to load up our bikes. As you can see, it's in the stored position here. We'll need to lower it down to the platform position. We'll come over here to our gray lever. We'll pull up and then rotate it down until it snaps in place, right there. Let's fold out our wheel hooks. Make sure that they're extended all the way up, pressing in on this gray button here, raising out like that. We'll also want to make sure that our rear-wheel strap is undone, ready to receive our rear tire. We can grab our bike. When loading up your bikes, it's always a good idea to make sure that you load up the heaviest bike first. Once the front tire is in the wheel cradle here, we can raise up our hook. The wheel hook is going to come up here and stop right at our front fork or right in front of our brakes there, whatever comes first. We'll lower that down. Give it a nice push. It's going to hold our bike in place. Then, we can come here to the back wheel. We can adjust our cradle as needed. We want to make sure that's centered. We'll adjust it so the strap comes between our spokes. Then, we'll just tighten it down. For our second bike, if we need to adjust the tray here, we can do so. You just simply loosen up the 4 bolts, and we can slide it front-to-back or side-to-side within the lines. Now we can bring up our second bike and fit it the exact same way. We've got it. With both bikes all loaded up, let's go ahead and take it out on our test course and see how it performed. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side-to-side action, such as going around corners, or evasive maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Then, finally on to our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up-and-down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking lot. That's going to complete our look at the Thule T2 classic platform-style tilting 2-bike rack for 2-inch hithces, part number TH9044.

Thule bike rack installed on our 1995 wrangler. Very tight but actually got it to close up against a 31x 10.50 spare. We measured 12 inches from the pin to the edge of the spare. Very solid well built rack, should last us many bike seasons! Easy install and set up. 643468

What else would you expect from a Thule product? Easy to assemble and ready to use! For the price I paid, Thule should have included the locks for the lockdown bars! I am very pleased with the product! We’ll built and designed to last! Went by local bike shop today to pick up two bikes being serviced. Bike repair person saw the Thule platform rack and said “couldn’t have bought a better bike rack than a Thule product! 551460

Good solid rack for carrying mountain bikes with fat tires and or unique frame configurations. My Kuat hanging rack work for my Farley 5 but did not fit my wife's new Fuel 8 Ex frame angle. E- Trailer had a Classic T2 that was lightly used-installation only, for a nice discount. 1. Installation. Never a fan of Thule instructions. Find an install video and don't waste your time with Thule's. All in all assembly and installation is not too bad. 2. Bikes. Holds my Farley with 26" x 4. tires and the Fuel EX with 27.5plus x 2.80" tires. You will need to figure out how to reinsert rear wheel strap to fit. If the instructions show this then they do not explain the need. Both of these wheel sizes need to the strap in the "upper" slot to fit. makes sense once you see it. 3. Rack Function. Tilts easily though the Pro is more civilized in this function. The rear hatch on my 2012 Sante Fe easily clears. I like that you can slide the bike position to the left or right with just loosening some hex bolts. This helps having the bikes pedal to pedal and touching at that point. Its a very solid rack and is heavy but that is OK as it's not like you should expect to be installing this type of rack with every use then remove the rack when done. Etrailer as usual provided great service and delivery. 331485

The service from etrailer was perfect. Delivery of the Thule rack was on time and easy to put together. It does have some weight at 49 lbs but manageable and very sturdy. etrailer honored the low price guarantee when I found the rack for less on another website. I also Installed the trailer hitch with my brother. Its easier with a helper. It went well as described on the video. Having the correct tools is a must including the 18mm deep socket and poly rivet tool. Comments about making the facia cut at least 2.5 inches is good advice. 562822

Assembly went well after reading the instructions and watching the you tube instructions. Very solid bike rack and easy to mount the bikes. Sure is a pleasure vs the roof rack system that I used for many years. 395078

The rack meets all my expectations and more. I include this picture because I remember reading a note that said the rack could not carry bikes with fenders. Obviously that is not so, they attach just fine! 456326

After looking at several bike racks and doing comparisons we chose the Thule t2. We loved the versatility and ease of operation as well as the built in locks. My wife can operate it with ease even when I am not there. She has even been known to install it on the car herself when I am not home. We bought the two bike version but it is easy to make it a four bike with the purchase of the add on which it is already made for without any modification. For us it was the best one regardless of the cost. I also love that it doesn't clamp down on any part of the frame. 378692

Was pretty easy to assemble, but when putting on the plastic wheel cups, the pre-punched holes in the square tubing where you mount them were not punched correctly. There are two slightly different sized holes and ours were punched backwards. We had to use a punch to widen the one hole slightly to allow the cups to be mounted in correct orientation. Not a big deal, but certainly not a step that should have had to be done. If you don't pay attention to the pictures, and your holes are punched incorrectly, you will end up installing your wheel cups backwards simply because that is the only way they will fit in the holes. Also, fat tire bikes will fit in the wheel cups, but the strap to hold the back wheel down is not long enough to go through the wheel and be strapped in. Either the air needs taken out of the back wheel (maybe, we haven't actually tried that yet), or some other tie-down strap would need to be used. Fit the road bikes perfectly - very sturdy. In addition, the mechanism for folding up the rack when not in use is hard to operate. The lever doesn't completely free the "pegs" from the slots to allow folding without some jerking. However, we are pleased with the rack so far and will be using it on its maiden voyage this weekend. 429337

Easy to operate. Takes less space to store. Better visibility when driving. Less bouncing if any while traveling. Simpler to attach and remove trailer. Also placing and taking bikes off rack is vastly improved over previous bike rack we used.

Installed the Thule T2 Classic onto a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. I am a data analyst, so all I do all day is work on a computer and have no real experience with tools, but the installation was easy. Before installing the bike rack, I would load two bikes into the back of the SUV, and it was becoming annoying. With the bike rack, I am able to quickly load and unload bikes. 388692

This is a great bike rack. It is very easy to mount on the vehicle as well as to remove it. Assembly was simple. The rack takes only a couple of minutes to mount on the vehicle and it takes about a minute to mount two bikes 585557

Thule makes a very sturdy bike carrier. I do have a couple of minor issues, however. First when assembling the product, if you follow the instructions and slide the cross bars over the main bar with the clamps already attached loosely,, it scrapes up the Thule logo on the main bar (which is just stick on vinyl). You really need to position the cross bars on the main bar where you want them, then attach their mounting clamps. The second issue was a little more serious. Pulling up on the unlocking lever to fold the rack down, the “ear” on the back side of the right side locking notch was too high. The square locking pin could not pulled up high enough to release it from the notch on that one side, no matter how firmly you pulled in the unlocking lever. The solution was to grind down the top of that ear just a few thousanths of an inch so the locking pin would clear. The only problem now is the top of that ear now has a small rust spot on it where I had to grind down the metal and remove their super tough powder coat finish. 555193

Excellent quality, sturdy and stable. Fast delivery! One of our bikes is electric with a fender. We did not realize that we would need to remove the fender before using the bike rack, and putting it back on again after reaching a location! But, still happy with purchase. 539239

Ask the Experts about this Thule Hitch Bike Racks

  • Comparing Thule T2 and Thule DoubleTrack Bike Racks
The really big difference between the Thule T2 Classic part # TH9044 and the Thule DoubleTrack # TH990XT is how the rack attaches to the bikes. The T2 attaches by grabbing the bikes at the tire and the Doubletrack grabs the frame. The advantage to a tire mount is that the frame doesn't get touched. This is especially helpful if the frame is made of carbon or has an expensive paint job you don't want to touch. The advantage the frame mount has is less cost and if the bikes have fenders...

  • Using the Tailgate of a Truck With a Platform Bike Rack Installed
It will depend a little bit on the design of the individual truck, however the tilt-away feature of the Thule T2 Classic bike rack, part # TH9044 gives it quite a bit of range away from most vehicles. I've included a video of our demo team installing the T2 Classic onto a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and opening the tailgate to show the approximate fit to that vehicle. This is demonstrated around the 0:25 second mark of the video. You can add locks to the T2 Classic with part # TH450200,...

As you mentioned, the Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9044 measures 4-1/2" to the closest part of the rack when folded so there isn't going to be a hitch that lets you fold the rack up on a '16 Wrangler Unlimited. • Why Doesnt Thule T2 Classic Come with Cable Locks
The Thule T2 Classic does not have a cable lock since the arms have locks built into them and the shank of the rack has a lock to secure it to the hitch of the vehicle. There is a replacement arm that will give you a cable lock though. For that we had a customer come back and state that the part # 752-1272-001 gave them the ability to use a cable lock.

  • Comparing Thule Classic T2 vs Thule T2 Pro XT
The Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9044 and the Thule T2 Pro XTB 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9034XT are very similar. The differences are in the maximum wheelbase being 2-1/2 inches longer totaling 50-1/2 inches and there being more space between bikes on the Pro XT model. The Pro XT will end up being about 2 lbs heavier due to that. Both of these bike racks will work very well for hybrid bikes up to 60 lbs each and mountain bikes. Both have wheel trays able to hold tires...

For a similar rack that would work great I would recommend the Thule Doubletrack Pro 2 Bike Platform Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH9054. This is a platform bike rack that would easily carry your two bikes and would make loading and unloading your bikes easy as well.

  • Fit of the Thule T2 Classic onto a 2017 Lexus RX 350 with a Curt Hitch
The Thule T2 Classic, part # TH9044 will fit wonderfully on your 2017 Lexus RX 350 with the Curt Class III, part # C13272 installed. I've included a video of our demo team installing the Curt Class III hitch onto a 2017 Lexus RX350, and then installing a Thule T2 Classic on the same vehicle and performing all of the T2 Classic's features and uses on the vehicle. The Curt Class III is a no drill, no cut installation so it will be extremely easy to complete. I've included the installation...

  • Will Bikes with Fenders Fit on the Thule T2 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
Bikes with fenders pose a problem for the Thule T2, # TH9044. Fenders often times cover most of the top of the tire and the T2 is not able to safely secure the bikes because you would have to place the hooks so low on the tire. A bike rack like the Thule Doubletrack, # TH9054, would be a better option because it holds the bikes at the frame. I have included a link to a video review of this bike rack for you. If the 75 pound capacity on the Doubletrack is not enough, take a look at...

  • Recommended Bike Rack For Front Mounted Hitch For Increased Visiability
A great style of bike rack for front hitches is the platform style. This will increase visibility when driving. A great bike rack for this is the Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH9045, its is a great fit with your trailer hitch # 65003. Most of all you will not have to use an adapter therefore further increasing your visibility. It will hold your bike using wheel mounts which can accommodate more styles of bikes and alternative frames. This rack also features and anti-rattle device...

  • Will Thule T2 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Clear the Spare Tire on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
I do not recommend using a hitch extender because doing so will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent and it puts extra stress on the hitch. It is not likely that the rack will interfere with the spare tire. It measure 19 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest bike carrier rail. This should be more than enough to clear the spare tire on your 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. To be sure you have the clearance, measure from the center...

  • Bike Rack Solution for 2003 Land Rover Discovery II
The Surco part # BT300 just hasn't been test fit on your vehicle. There's a chance the rack would fit, but in reality we can't say for certain. Best solution I can recommend is a hitch bike rack with plenty of clearance between the hitch pin hole and the bike rail like the Thule # TH9044. You'd need a hitch too if your vehicle doesn't have one, the Curt part # 13455 is a confirmed fit and would work well.

  • Best Hitch Receiver and Bike Rack For 2013 Honda Civic EX Coupe To Carry Carbon Fiber Bike
Yes, The EcoHitch part # 306-X7235 on 2013 Honda Civic EX Coupe and Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH9044 are both great choices. The EcoHitch will fit the Civic Coupe and give you a 2" hitch receiver option compared to the only other options for the Civic that are 1-1/4". The Thule T2 2" Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack is a wheel mount bike rack so it will not touch the carbon fiber frame of your Specialized StumpJumper ST compared to other racks that hold the bikes by their...

  • How to Convert a Thule T2 TH916XTR So that it Can be Used in a 1-1/4 inch Hitch
You can convert your Thule T2 Bike Rack part # TH9044 to basically be a # TH9045 by simply replacing the shank and backbone assembly of your current rack with a # 753-3709 . I spoke to my contact at Thule and she said that this is the only way to accomplish this. This will allow your rack to be used in a 1-1/4 inch hitch.

  • Best Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2016 Lexus NX 200t
For the Curt Hitch part # C13337 that you ordered for your 2016 Lexus NX 200t the Thule T2 part # TH9044 would be an excellent choice for a bike rack. This is one of the nicest bike racks on the market so I would highly recommend it. This rack comes with hitch and bike locks, anti-sway device to stabilize the rack, and uses wheel mounts that only touch the bike tires to load them so nothing would touch the frame of the bike.

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2010 Jeep Wrangler to Clear Rear Spare
The Thule T2 Classic part # TH9044 would fit well on your 2010 Jeep Wrangler and would clear the spare without any problems. It has a distance of 19 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest bike rack so it would clear pretty easily actually. The Yakima TwoTimer part # Y02468 would also clear as the same dimension on it is 17 inches, but since the T2 only touches the bikes at the tires I would recommend this rack much higher than the Yakima. I attached a review video...

  • Recommendation of Bike Rack for Beach Cruisers with Fenders and 3 inch Wide Tires
The Thule T2 Quick-Load 2 Bike Hitch Mounted Folding Rack, item # TH9044, will accept up to 5 inch wide tires but, unless you have over 1 inch of clearance between the fender and the front tire on your cruiser with a fender, you will not be able to secure the bike safely. Another option for both of your cruisers would be the 2 Bike Carrier for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch Trailer Hitches - Wheel Mount, item # S64650, as long as the weight of each bike is not over 35 pounds. This rack will accept...

  • Recommendation for a Trailer Hitch Mount Platform Bike Rack to Clear Spare Tire, 2010 Toyota RAV4
The first thing you will want to do is measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance require to clear the spare tire carrier. I do know that on a 2008 Toyota RAV4 and Curt Hitch # 13509, this distance is 8 inches. The shank on the Thule Doubletrack Bike Rack is 7-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the curved bracket, and 11-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar. It seems that this will be a tight fit and some contact...

  • Will the Thule T2 or Doubletrack Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks Fit Specialized Expedition Elites
The Thule T2 bike rack, # TH9044, has hooks that hole each bike at the wheels, so the frame and brake design is not a factor. If the bikes had fenders, a different type of rack would be needed. I have included a link to the installation details for the T2 for you to view. The Doubletrack, # TH9054, holds the bikes at the frame. On a step through bike that has the really low frame bar that dips down, the frame clamps will still be able to reach it. I have included a link to the installation...

  • Does a Bike Rack on the Back of a Toad Vehicle Need to Be RV Approved
In regards to Thule bike racks, a hitch mounted bike rack on the rear of the toad vehicle will need to be RV approved in order to abide by their warranty. Therefore, I cannot recommend you use a Thule T2 part # TH9044 on the rear of your toad vehicle. To my knowledge, Thule and Hollywood Racks are the only bike rack manufacturers that state the bike rack must be RV approved while used on the hitch of a toad vehicle. However, as this is an ongoing issue in the RV community it may change....
