T2 Classic for 2" Hitches

The Thule T2 Classic platform-style bike rack lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The rack is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles, and it can hold bikes with fat tires up to 5" wide. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel trays secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The rack tilts down with bikes loaded so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it folds up when not in use.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Ratcheting Wheel Hook

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 2 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms and front wheel cradles securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply set your bike on the rack and pivot the upright arm up and over the front wheel. Then just ratchet the hook down so it firmly grips your wheel.

Wheel Hook Lock Core

The arms can also be locked in place with Thule One-Key System lock cylinders (TH512 - sold separately). One-Key System cylinders can be swapped out to make all of your Thule gear keyed alike.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle

The sliding rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long, and they accommodate tires up to 5" wide. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

Regular Strap Length

For road bikes and mountain bikes insert the strap into the hole at the bottom of the cradle. Then run the strap along the side and over the top of the cradle.

Fat Tire Strap Length

For fat tire bikes insert the strap under the bracket on the side of the cradle. Then simply run the strap over the top of the cradle.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and rear bike trays are fully adjustable to ensure you have enough space when mounting your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base, slide the tray front to back and side to side to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

HitchSwitch Lever

The integrated HitchSwitch lever allows the T2 Classic to easily tilt. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient rear cargo area access.

Rack Tilts Up for Storage

It also folds up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device

SnugTite Hitch Lock

The rack includes a SnugTite hitch lock and anti-rattle device. The hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch with the included One-Key System lock cylinder. And the threaded hitch pin eliminates movement and rattle in the hitch.

Optional 2-Bike Add-On

T2 Classic Add-On

There is a 2-bike add-on available (TH9046 - sold separately) for the T2 Classic that will allow you convert it from a 2-bike carrier to a 4-bike carrier. To install the add-on on your T2 Classic, simply remove the endcap from the bike rack base, slide the add-on's shank into the hole on the bike rack, and secure the shank with a bolt that comes with the add-on.

Thule bike rack installed on our 1995 wrangler. Very tight but actually got it to close up against a 31x 10.50 spare. We measured 12 inches from the pin to the edge of the spare. Very solid well built rack, should last us many bike seasons! Easy install and set up.

Comments
As anticipated this rack has been sturdy and dependable. Carried bikes on back of our fifth wheel to Key West and all over Florida-no issues! Back on our Jeep again, great product!

This is my second Thule bike carrier. I downsized from a 4 bike to a 2 bike platform. I did have trouble with lifting the latch to fold the carrier down for use. The small metal bar inside the latch would not align on both sides of the slot preventing the latch from opening all the way. I would use a screwdriver to maneuver the bar to fully open the latch. This was very frustrating. I have since loaded the latch and metal bar with grease and it is now moving easier. I've also found the platform hard to move up and down and requires a bit more strength than I have. I do love the way the bikes load and mount. I still highly recommend Thule products.

Box arrived pretty beaten up but contents inside were packed well and not damaged. Assembly instructions were pretty simple particularly after watching a video specific to this model. Tools provided were sufficient for assembly but having a 3/4” socket wrench would have made assembly faster. All parts fit as intended. The bike rack appears to be solid and top quality. It looks like it will be easy to load the bikes securely. I’ll know more after I use it this weekend.

I have had trouble keeping the bike secure during long travels with considerable winds. Almost lost my bike on a trip from Minnesota to Illinois last year. Since then, I double down by using a rubber strap to hold bike(s) in place when on long vehicle trips. Other than that concern, bikes are easy on and easy off and the rack is compact enough that I can keep it on the back end of my vehicle and park it in my tight garage.

The service from etrailer was perfect. Delivery of the Thule rack was on time and easy to put together. It does have some weight at 49 lbs but manageable and very sturdy. etrailer honored the low price guarantee when I found the rack for less on another website. I also Installed the trailer hitch with my brother. Its easier with a helper. It went well as described on the video. Having the correct tools is a must including the 18mm deep socket and poly rivet tool. Comments about making the facia cut at least 2.5 inches is good advice.

I wanted to replace a 31 year old trailer hitch bike rack that was serviceable however created a lot of drag due to the distance from the hitch of my car. After reading about the available hitches and reviews I decided to buy the Thule rack and could not be happier. I just completed a 2600 mile round trip and was thoroughly impressed with the rigidity of the rack there was no wobble or hitch noise and the bikes were secure with no movement. I would recommend this rack.

Installed the Thule T2 Classic onto a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. I am a data analyst, so all I do all day is work on a computer and have no real experience with tools, but the installation was easy. Before installing the bike rack, I would load two bikes into the back of the SUV, and it was becoming annoying. With the bike rack, I am able to quickly load and unload bikes.

Here it is. Bought a Sagman rack first it was an ok Quality rack but was not comfortable that it would Hold up to a long season of travel. So in came in the Thule rack . This rack is well worth the extra money It is designed for the long run. It went together easy And just had good engineering. So if you are in the market for a everyday use rack not a couple of days a year rack hands down buy the Thule brand.

Assembly went well after reading the instructions and watching the you tube instructions. Very solid bike rack and easy to mount the bikes. Sure is a pleasure vs the roof rack system that I used for many years.

It was a little bit difficult to put together. But it is really a NICE bike rack. The main reason I got this is because I'm looking to get an E-Bike and this will support the weight of the E-Bike. Oh this is the 2nd Thule rack I have bought.

Thule bicycle rack is the best for my Chrysler Town and Country. Great having the tilt feature which allows access through the lift gate with out removing bicycles. A great product. Perfect fit for the van. The fold up feature is simple to use when the vehicle is parked while you are out riding the bike. This is a quality product.

- TH9044
by:

The rack meets all my expectations and more. I include this picture because I remember reading a note that said the rack could not carry bikes with fenders. Obviously that is not so, they attach just fine!

This is a top-notch company from top to bottom. Their website makes it easy to find the product that will work for you. Their employees are knowledgeable and understand customer service. That can be a pretty rare thing in today's world. Everyone talks about customer service but very few really deliver. The Thule bike carrier we bought a year ago is meeting all of our expectations.

I bought a Thule T2 Classic Platform 2 Bike Rack. The product seems very solid and secure. Can't wait to take our bikes on a long trip. The service from etrailer was outstanding. I found them very conscientious and supportive. Would definitely recommend!

Comments
Easy to operate. Takes less space to store. Better visibility when driving. Less bouncing if any while traveling. Simpler to attach and remove trailer. Also placing and taking bikes off rack is vastly improved over previous bike rack we used.

Did a lot of research before deciding on this rack. Both bikes that go on the rack have wider tires and they fit great. Rack is very secure and easy to install. It is on the heavy side but other than that there is really nothing to complain about. Excellent product- highly recommend.

Very pleased with how fast this was shipped from etrailer, it only took 3 days. I called customer service just to check up on my order and George was very friendly, over and above normal customer service. The rack is engineered to last... I picked this one over the yakima holdup as it seems beefier and the wheel trays are on top of the platform not attached to the underside. Also the main support tubes and how they are built make for less sway IMO. The rear wheel trays adjust without tools, another plus for me. Fits really well on my 2014 Toyota sienna. Support bars can be adjusted L/R and front to back so when folded up it doesn't touch the vehicle. Easy to put together, very happy with purchase. Another site is now charging tax so etrailer was a better deal, by $25, glad I went with them!

After looking at several bike racks and doing comparisons we chose the Thule t2. We loved the versatility and ease of operation as well as the built in locks. My wife can operate it with ease even when I am not there. She has even been known to install it on the car herself when I am not home. We bought the two bike version but it is easy to make it a four bike with the purchase of the add on which it is already made for without any modification. For us it was the best one regardless of the cost. I also love that it doesn't clamp down on any part of the frame.

Good solid rack for carrying mountain bikes with fat tires and or unique frame configurations. My Kuat hanging rack work for my Farley 5 but did not fit my wife's new Fuel 8 Ex frame angle. E- Trailer had a Classic T2 that was lightly used-installation only, for a nice discount. 1. Installation. Never a fan of Thule instructions. Find an install video and don't waste your time with Thule's. All in all assembly and installation is not too bad. 2. Bikes. Holds my Farley with 26" x 4. tires and the Fuel EX with 27.5plus x 2.80" tires. You will need to figure out how to reinsert rear wheel strap to fit. If the instructions show this then they do not explain the need. Both of these wheel sizes need to the strap in the "upper" slot to fit. makes sense once you see it. 3. Rack Function. Tilts easily though the Pro is more civilized in this function. The rear hatch on my 2012 Sante Fe easily clears. I like that you can slide the bike position to the left or right with just loosening some hex bolts. This helps having the bikes pedal to pedal and touching at that point. Its a very solid rack and is heavy but that is OK as it's not like you should expect to be installing this type of rack with every use then remove the rack when done. Etrailer as usual provided great service and delivery.

Thule makes a very sturdy bike carrier. I do have a couple of minor issues, however. First when assembling the product, if you follow the instructions and slide the cross bars over the main bar with the clamps already attached loosely,, it scrapes up the Thule logo on the main bar (which is just stick on vinyl). You really need to position the cross bars on the main bar where you want them, then attach their mounting clamps. The second issue was a little more serious. Pulling up on the unlocking lever to fold the rack down, the “ear” on the back side of the right side locking notch was too high. The square locking pin could not pulled up high enough to release it from the notch on that one side, no matter how firmly you pulled in the unlocking lever. The solution was to grind down the top of that ear just a few thousanths of an inch so the locking pin would clear. The only problem now is the top of that ear now has a small rust spot on it where I had to grind down the metal and remove their super tough powder coat finish.

I needed this rack because I have two Fat Bikes, and one is a 50 lb ebike. I am very happy with the rack, but you better know what you're getting into. I currently have 4 different bike racks....hitch and trunk mount. This rack is a monster! It is bulky, heavy, and difficult to assemble. The directions for assembly were confusing, and I finally had the best results just looking at the picture on the box. I drive a Volvo XC90. You would think a Swedish rack would fit a Swedish car. The rack will not fold up. It hits the rear of the Volvo. To adjust the rack would result in the bikes too far out, and too close together on the support beam. I may cut down the front wheel holder. Otherwise the rack is great. Similar racks would have been much more money. I like the locking feature, but Thule should include the lock cylinders in the purchase of the rack. This is my first Thule rack. It holds the bikes two Fat Bikes very securely. I even tried two road bikes and was very happy with the security. This rack is a bit overkill for the road bikes, but if you have bizarre frame geometry, this is the way to transport.

- TH9044
by:

I've had several bike racks and this is the best one by far. Putting it on the hitch and loading up two bikes takes seconds and works great.

- TH9044
by:

This rack is well constructed and seems very stable. Installation was not difficult. It is very convenient to load bikes on it, especially in comparison to a roof rack. Also, does not seem too heavy.

Still very happy with his purchase. Makes it easy to load bikes. Sturdy and functional.

Because of the way the Thule T2, # TH9044, is designed, there is actually a rise of 4-3/4 inches from the top of the receiver opening on the trailer hitch to the bottom of the nearest platform. The rack angles up even more towards the back and the bottom of the furthest end from the receiver is 3/4 inches higher. Based on this rise you will not have to worry too much about ground clearance unless you are on steep grades or go over severe bumps or dips. I have included a link to the...

  • Platform Wheel Mount Bike Rack Recommend for 29 inch Wheel 48 inch Wheelbase Bike that Weighs 60 lb
I have a rack that I can guarantee will work, the Thule T2 # TH9044 can work on bikes with tires that are up to 29 inches in diameter, have a wheelbase of up to 48 inches, and has a weight capacity of 60 lbs per bike. Had I known the wheelbase you have and the weight of your bike I would have made this recommendation for you previously. I attached a review video for you to check out as well. I still stand by the previous recommendation I made about the # SA4023. I can't guarantee...

  • Best Hitch And 2 Bike Platform Rack For 2017 Honda Civic Sedan
I would agree a platform style would be your best bet for this style of bike frame. For a slim design hitch that hides the receiver tube, the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24954 is my recommendation. Included is an installed customer image so you can see that only the receiver tube is visible at the rear of the 2017 Honda Civic Sedan. This hitch is more difficult to install than the Curt # C11604 which is also a confirmed fit but does not provide the same low-profile...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a Dream24 Bike with a 52 Inch Wheelbase
Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting Item # TH9044 maxes out at 48 inch wheelbases but there are similar bike racks that will accept a 52 inch wheelbase. I looked up the bike you have to make sure that the racks listed below will work with it. Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches Item # S44FR accepts bikes with a 52 inch wheelbase. Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 2-Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount Item # HR1450Z accepts bikes with...

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Carrying Bikes with Fenders
Since your bikes have fenders a better solution for a bike rack would be one that attaches to the bike frame instead of one that attaches to the tires like the T2 part # TH9044 that you referenced. For a similar rack that would work great I would recommend the Thule Doubletrack Pro 2 Bike Platform Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH9054. This is a platform bike rack that would easily carry your two bikes and would make loading and unloading your bikes easy as well.

  • Comparing Thule T2 and Thule DoubleTrack Bike Racks
The really big difference between the Thule T2 Classic part # TH9044 and the Thule DoubleTrack # TH990XT is how the rack attaches to the bikes. The T2 attaches by grabbing the bikes at the tire and the Doubletrack grabs the frame. The advantage to a tire mount is that the frame doesn't get touched. This is especially helpful if the frame is made of carbon or has an expensive paint job you don't want to touch. The advantage the frame mount has is less cost and if the bikes have fenders...

  • Best Bike Rack for Transporting Heavy Electric Bikes without Lifting
We have the perfect bike rack for you. The Thule EasyFold 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH903202 is designed to easily carry heavy electric bikes like yours. It has an easy to use removable ramp that allows your bikes to load easily onto the rack without any lifting. I attached a demo video for this rack for you to check out as well. A power lift bike rack isn't available, but this should work very well for you.

  • Will the Thule T2 Bike Carrier Fit a 2014 Honda Odyssey
On your 2014 Honda Odyssey with a Class III trailer hitch such as # C13068 installed the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole back to clear the rear bumper is 6 inches. See video showing installation. The Thule T2 bike carrier # TH9044 measures 7-7/8 inches from the center of the pin hole to the pivoting bracket when the carrier is in the down position. But it measures 4-1/2 to the nearest part of the carrier when folded up. What this means is that it would work when carrying...

  • Why Doesnt Thule T2 Classic Come with Cable Locks
The Thule T2 Classic does not have a cable lock since the arms have locks built into them and the shank of the rack has a lock to secure it to the hitch of the vehicle. There is a replacement arm that will give you a cable lock though. For that we had a customer come back and state that the part # 752-1272-001 gave them the ability to use a cable lock.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 2016 Honda Odyssey for Only Touching Bikes at Tires
I would go with a platform bike rack that only touches the bikes at the tires for your application. Roof bike racks can work well but they require lifting the bikes up pretty high. The hitch mount is the all-around best option when available. The Thule T2 Classic part # TH9044 would be a great option that would fit both bike sizes and only touches them at the tires. For a hitch for your 2016 Honda Odyssey the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75270 would be the hitch to go with because it does...

  • Will Bikes with Fenders Fit on the Thule T2 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
Bikes with fenders pose a problem for the Thule T2, # TH9044. Fenders often times cover most of the top of the tire and the T2 is not able to safely secure the bikes because you would have to place the hooks so low on the tire. A bike rack like the Thule Doubletrack, # TH9054, would be a better option because it holds the bikes at the frame. I have included a link to a video review of this bike rack for you. If the 75 pound capacity on the Doubletrack is not enough, take a look at...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation to Carry T2 Classic Bike Rack with a 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon
While the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 75673 is compatible with the Thule T2 Classic # TH9044 and you will be able to use them together on your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon, the Draw-Tite doesn't provide enough bumper clearance to utilize the folded position for the T2 Classic. With that being said, we do have a video of the T2 Classic being used with the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13206 on a '17 Outback Wagon and there is more than enough clearance for the folded position. I have attached this video...
