T2 Classic for 2" Hitches

The Thule T2 Classic platform-style bike rack lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The rack is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles, and it can hold bikes with fat tires up to 5" wide. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel trays secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The rack tilts down with bikes loaded so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it folds up when not in use.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Ratcheting Wheel Hook

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 2 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms and front wheel cradles securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply set your bike on the rack and pivot the upright arm up and over the front wheel. Then just ratchet the hook down so it firmly grips your wheel.

Wheel Hook Lock Core

The arms can also be locked in place with Thule One-Key System lock cylinders (TH512 - sold separately). One-Key System cylinders can be swapped out to make all of your Thule gear keyed alike.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle

The sliding rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long, and they accommodate tires up to 5" wide. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

Regular Strap Length

For road bikes and mountain bikes insert the strap into the hole at the bottom of the cradle. Then run the strap along the side and over the top of the cradle.

Fat Tire Strap Length

For fat tire bikes insert the strap under the bracket on the side of the cradle. Then simply run the strap over the top of the cradle.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and rear bike trays are fully adjustable to ensure you have enough space when mounting your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base, slide the tray front to back and side to side to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

HitchSwitch Lever

The integrated HitchSwitch lever allows the T2 Classic to easily tilt. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient rear cargo area access.

Rack Tilts Up for Storage

It also folds up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device

SnugTite Hitch Lock

The rack includes a SnugTite hitch lock and anti-rattle device. The hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch with the included One-Key System lock cylinder. And the threaded hitch pin eliminates movement and rattle in the hitch.

Optional 2-Bike Add-On

T2 Classic Add-On

There is a 2-bike add-on available (TH9046 - sold separately) for the T2 Classic that will allow you convert it from a 2-bike carrier to a 4-bike carrier. To install the add-on on your T2 Classic, simply remove the endcap from the bike rack base, slide the add-on's shank into the hole on the bike rack, and secure the shank with a bolt that comes with the add-on.

The service from etrailer was perfect. Delivery of the Thule rack was on time and easy to put together. It does have some weight at 49 lbs but manageable and very sturdy. etrailer honored the low price guarantee when I found the rack for less on another website. I also Installed the trailer hitch with my brother. Its easier with a helper. It went well as described on the video. Having the correct tools is a must including the 18mm deep socket and poly rivet tool. Comments about making the facia cut at least 2.5 inches is good advice. 562822

The rack meets all my expectations and more. I include this picture because I remember reading a note that said the rack could not carry bikes with fenders. Obviously that is not so, they attach just fine! 456326

Thule bike rack installed on our 1995 wrangler. Very tight but actually got it to close up against a 31x 10.50 spare. We measured 12 inches from the pin to the edge of the spare. Very solid well built rack, should last us many bike seasons! Easy install and set up. 643468

As anticipated this rack has been sturdy and dependable. Carried bikes on back of our fifth wheel to Key West and all over Florida-no issues! Back on our Jeep again, great product!

Thule bicycle rack is the best for my Chrysler Town and Country. Great having the tilt feature which allows access through the lift gate with out removing bicycles. A great product. Perfect fit for the van. The fold up feature is simple to use when the vehicle is parked while you are out riding the bike. This is a quality product. 759149

Easy to operate. Takes less space to store. Better visibility when driving. Less bouncing if any while traveling. Simpler to attach and remove trailer. Also placing and taking bikes off rack is vastly improved over previous bike rack we used.

Was pretty easy to assemble, but when putting on the plastic wheel cups, the pre-punched holes in the square tubing where you mount them were not punched correctly. There are two slightly different sized holes and ours were punched backwards. We had to use a punch to widen the one hole slightly to allow the cups to be mounted in correct orientation. Not a big deal, but certainly not a step that should have had to be done. If you don't pay attention to the pictures, and your holes are punched incorrectly, you will end up installing your wheel cups backwards simply because that is the only way they will fit in the holes. Also, fat tire bikes will fit in the wheel cups, but the strap to hold the back wheel down is not long enough to go through the wheel and be strapped in. Either the air needs taken out of the back wheel (maybe, we haven't actually tried that yet), or some other tie-down strap would need to be used. Fit the road bikes perfectly - very sturdy. In addition, the mechanism for folding up the rack when not in use is hard to operate. The lever doesn't completely free the "pegs" from the slots to allow folding without some jerking. However, we are pleased with the rack so far and will be using it on its maiden voyage this weekend. 429337

This is my second Thule bike carrier. I downsized from a 4 bike to a 2 bike platform. I did have trouble with lifting the latch to fold the carrier down for use. The small metal bar inside the latch would not align on both sides of the slot preventing the latch from opening all the way. I would use a screwdriver to maneuver the bar to fully open the latch. This was very frustrating. I have since loaded the latch and metal bar with grease and it is now moving easier. I've also found the platform hard to move up and down and requires a bit more strength than I have. I do love the way the bikes load and mount. I still highly recommend Thule products. 793955

After looking at several bike racks and doing comparisons we chose the Thule t2. We loved the versatility and ease of operation as well as the built in locks. My wife can operate it with ease even when I am not there. She has even been known to install it on the car herself when I am not home. We bought the two bike version but it is easy to make it a four bike with the purchase of the add on which it is already made for without any modification. For us it was the best one regardless of the cost. I also love that it doesn't clamp down on any part of the frame. 378692

This rack is well worth the extra money It is designed for the long run. It went together easy And just had good engineering. So if you are in the market for a everyday use rack not a couple of days a year rack hands down buy the Thule brand. 561325

What else would you expect from a Thule product? Easy to assemble and ready to use! For the price I paid, Thule should have included the locks for the lockdown bars! I am very pleased with the product! We’ll built and designed to last! Went by local bike shop today to pick up two bikes being serviced. Bike repair person saw the Thule platform rack and said “couldn’t have bought a better bike rack than a Thule product! 551460

Bike rack itself is very high quality; I look forward to using it for our new bicycles. I love that we can still open the back of the SUV. It's actually pretty easy to install; we used a socket wrench instead of the tool that was provided which made it much easier. The markings for installing the brackets are just vinyl tape, which peeled off while we were sliding the brackets in place so we used a silver sharpie to mark the spots. YouTube has several videos which can help with install, if needed. Just be sure to install the correct bike holder on first (the locking arms need to both be towards the inside) or you will not be able to use the lever to lower it from the "stored against the vehicle" position. 847561

This is a top-notch company from top to bottom. Their website makes it easy to find the product that will work for you. Their employees are knowledgeable and understand customer service. That can be a pretty rare thing in today's world. Everyone talks about customer service but very few really deliver. The Thule bike carrier we bought a year ago is meeting all of our expectations. 828191

Did a lot of research before deciding on this rack. Both bikes that go on the rack have wider tires and they fit great. Rack is very secure and easy to install. It is on the heavy side but other than that there is really nothing to complain about. Excellent product- highly recommend. 827506

Box arrived pretty beaten up but contents inside were packed well and not damaged. Assembly instructions were pretty simple particularly after watching a video specific to this model. Tools provided were sufficient for assembly but having a 3/4” socket wrench would have made assembly faster. All parts fit as intended. The bike rack appears to be solid and top quality. It looks like it will be easy to load the bikes securely. I’ll know more after I use it this weekend. 822491

  • Lock Cylinders for Ratcheting Arms on Thule T2 Classic Bike Rack
To add lock cylinders to the ratcheting arms on your Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Rack # TH9044 to secure the bikes to the carrier you will just need part # TH450200, which comes with both cylinders and two keys. Since the T2 comes with a lock cylinder for the hitch pin you might consider going with the 4 pack (part # TH450400) so you can use the extra to replace the existing cylinder for the hitch connection. This will make it so that all the locks on the rack are keyed alike. Otherwise...

I would go with a platform bike rack that only touches the bikes at the tires for your application. Roof bike racks can work well but they require lifting the bikes up pretty high. The hitch mount is the all-around best option when available. The Thule T2 Classic part # TH9044 would be a great option that would fit both bike sizes and only touches them at the tires. For a hitch for your 2016 Honda Odyssey the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75270 would be the hitch to go with because it does...

  • Best Hitch And 2 Bike Platform Rack For 2017 Honda Civic Sedan
I would agree a platform style would be your best bet for this style of bike frame. For a slim design hitch that hides the receiver tube, the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24954 is my recommendation. Included is an installed customer image so you can see that only the receiver tube is visible at the rear of the 2017 Honda Civic Sedan. This hitch is more difficult to install than the Curt # C11604 which is also a confirmed fit but does not provide the same low-profile...

  • Will the Thule T2 Bike Carrier Fit a 2014 Honda Odyssey
On your 2014 Honda Odyssey with a Class III trailer hitch such as # C13068 installed the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole back to clear the rear bumper is 6 inches. See video showing installation. The Thule T2 bike carrier # TH9044 measures 7-7/8 inches from the center of the pin hole to the pivoting bracket when the carrier is in the down position. But it measures 4-1/2 to the nearest part of the carrier when folded up. What this means is that it would work when carrying...

  • Platform Bike Racks That Work With Fat Tires
There are more than 20 different platform racks that can fit tires that are 4-1/2 to 5 inches. The most popular is the Thule T2 Classic # TH9044, with Hollywood Racks also making a number of options to consider, such as the TRS-2 # HR3000. I have added a link that has each of our fat-tire capable platform racks, as well as links to video reviews of the Thule and Hollywood racks to check out.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Extension for 2012 Toyota RAV4 with Spare Tire and Thule Rack
On your Thule T2 Classic # TH9044, the closest bike carrier rail when folded is 4-1/2". This is an important measurement so we can get the proper fit for your 2012 Toyota RAV4. I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75235 which has a hitch pin hole that measures 3 inches from the outermost part of the bumper. This will only allow a fit without the spare tire unless using a hitch extender like # MT70024 which is my recommendation for your bike rack. This will...

  • Will Bikes with Fenders Fit on the Thule T2 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
Bikes with fenders pose a problem for the Thule T2, # TH9044. Fenders often times cover most of the top of the tire and the T2 is not able to safely secure the bikes because you would have to place the hooks so low on the tire. A bike rack like the Thule Doubletrack, # TH9054, would be a better option because it holds the bikes at the frame. I have included a link to a video review of this bike rack for you. If the 75 pound capacity on the Doubletrack is not enough, take a look at...

  • How to Convert a Thule T2 TH916XTR So that it Can be Used in a 1-1/4 inch Hitch
You can convert your Thule T2 Bike Rack part # TH9044 to basically be a # TH9045 by simply replacing the shank and backbone assembly of your current rack with a # 753-3709 . I spoke to my contact at Thule and she said that this is the only way to accomplish this. This will allow your rack to be used in a 1-1/4 inch hitch.

  • Using the Tailgate of a Truck With a Platform Bike Rack Installed
It will depend a little bit on the design of the individual truck, however the tilt-away feature of the Thule T2 Classic bike rack, part # TH9044 gives it quite a bit of range away from most vehicles. I've included a video of our demo team installing the T2 Classic onto a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and opening the tailgate to show the approximate fit to that vehicle. This is demonstrated around the 0:25 second mark of the video. You can add locks to the T2 Classic with part # TH450200,...
