T2 Classic with Add-On for 2" Hitches

The Thule T2 Classic platform-style bike rack lets you carry 4 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The rack is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles, and it can hold bikes with fat tires up to 5" wide. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel trays secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The rack tilts down with bikes loaded so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it folds up when not in use.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Ratcheting Wheel Hook

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 4 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms and front wheel cradles securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply set your bike on the rack and pivot the upright arm up and over the front wheel. Then just ratchet the hook down so it firmly grips your wheel.

Wheel Hook Lock Core

The arms can also be locked in place with Thule One-Key System lock cylinders (TH450400- sold separately). One-Key System cylinders can be swapped out to make all of your Thule gear keyed alike.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle

The sliding rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long, and they accommodate tires up to 5" wide. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

Regular Strap Length

For road bikes and mountain bikes insert the strap into the hole at the bottom of the cradle. Then run the strap along the side and over the top of the cradle.

Fat Tire Strap Length

For fat tire bikes insert the strap under the bracket on the side of the cradle. Then simply run the strap over the top of the cradle.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and rear bike trays are fully adjustable to ensure you have enough space when mounting your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base, slide the tray front to back and side to side to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

HitchSwitch Lever

The integrated HitchSwitch lever allows the T2 Classic to easily tilt. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient rear cargo area access.

Rack Tilts Up for Storage

It also folds up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device

SnugTite Hitch Lock

The rack includes a SnugTite hitch lock and anti-rattle device. The hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch with the included One-Key System lock cylinder. And the threaded hitch pin eliminates movement and rattle in the hitch.

Video Transcript for Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Rack Review

Today, we'll be taking a look at the Thule T2 Classic Platform Style Tilting 4-Bike Rack for 2-inch hitches. Part Number TH9044-TH9046. This platform style 4-bike rack tilts away even when the bikes are loaded allowing you full access to your rear hatch. Now, it is a 2-person job, so I'm going to have a buddy come in and give me a hand. What you'll want to do is you'll want to take the pin out and then push in on the gray lever. We can open up our rear hatch and get anything we need. When you're done, simply lift up to secure it back in place.

Then, we'll just replace the pin and we've got it. A lot of 4-bike racks can be pretty tight when fully loaded, but as you can see, the T2 Classic offers more than adequate spacing for our bikes. It's going to fit a wide variety of bikes. As you can see, I've got a mountain bike here, ladies' bike, a road bike, and a kid's bike. It secures the bike with wheel hooks and wheel straps. There is no frame contact.

The wheel hooks ratchet down allowing it to accommodate a wide variety of bike tire sizes that can also be locked with Thule Locking Cores, Part Number TH544. The rear tires are held in place by a ratcheting strap. It also features a soft rubber pad. We'll go ahead and take a bike off, so we can get a closer look. The front wheel cradles will accommodate a wide variety of tire widths.

You've got your narrow road bike tire here, a mountain bike tire, all the way out to a 5-inch fat tire size. The wheel hooks pivot out of the way making it easier to load up our 4 bikes. They also have rubber padding. The rear wheel cradles are adjustable along the tray. This allows it to accommodate bikes of different wheel bases. Each tray can support up to 60 pounds, but you want to be sure not to exceed 160 pounds when fully loaded.

The bike rack is made out of a solid steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it's going to be stylish, and it's going to resist rust and corrosion. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the end of the shank is 55 inches, so just keep in mind, you're going to be adding quite a bit of length to the end of your vehicle. When not in use, the bike rack folds up against the vehicle. This would be ideal for pulling in your garage or a tight parking spot. The T2 Classic offers a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over all the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing you'll want to do is go ahead and load up your 2 bike, so we're just going to just slide it into our 2-inch receiver and line up our pinholes. Once we get those pinholes lined up, we can take our included anti-rattle bolt and lock, and we're going to thread that through on the passenger side. Once we get that hand-tight, we can then get our included wrench and tighten that the rest of the way down. Now that that's done, we can go ahead and put our lock on, lock it in place, and then we've got it. Now, in order to put on our extension, we're going to tilt this down. It's just going to make it a little bit easier to put that on. We'll come over here to our gray handle, pull up, and then tilt it down until it snaps in place. Now, we can grab our extension and just slide it in the back. If you've got an end cap there, you'll want to go ahead and remove that. We'll just line it up in the back and then slide it on. Now, if you're having some trouble sliding it in, it's not a bad idea to use some spray lubricant. It's just going to make it a little bit easier. Now, you want to be sure and push it in far enough to where your holes line up, and so that you can put your bolt through. If you notice here there may be a small gap, that's not big deal. We'll take our included hardware and run that through. We've got 1 bolt that's going to go in the side as you see here, and there's going to be 1 going in on the bottom. We'll get both of those finger-tight, and we'll take our included tool and tighten them down. All right. That looks pretty good. Now, we can get ready to load up our bikes. We'll need to fold out our wheel hook. We'll also want to make sure it's raised all the way out, press in on this gray button here. We'll also want to make sure that our rear wheel strap is undone ready to receive our back tire. Now, let's grab our bike. Now, when loading up your bikes, it's important to load up the heaviest bike first. We'll come up, we'll set the front tire in the front wheel cradle there and the rear in the rear. Now, once we have it seated in the cradles, we'll come up to our front wheel hook here, lower it down in front of our fork or our brakes, whatever comes first, give it a nice push. As you can see, it's going to hold it in place. Then, we'll come back to our rear wheel strap. We'll want to be sure to adjust our cradle, front or back, make sure it's center with the tire. Then, we'll want to adjust our wheel, so that the strap can go between our spokes. Then, we'll just pull that down and then we've got it. Now, if we need to for the rest of our bikes, we can adjust our tray. You simply loosen these 4 bolts here. We can move it front to back or from side to side within these lines. Now, let's load up the rest of the bikes. Now, with all 4 bikes loaded up, let's go ahead and take it on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side-to-side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then, onto our alternating speed bumps, this is going to show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Then, finally onto our solid speed bumps, this is going to show an up-and-down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking garage. That's going to complete our look of the Thule T2 classic Platform Style Tilting 4-Bike Rack for 2-inch hitches. Part Number TH9044-TH9046. .

I really have no complaints about this rack. What I can say is you get what you pay for. I first tried out a less expensive rack from etrailer and it did not fit my girls bikes well and the construction I was disappointed in. But etrailer took back the old one and I upgraded and spend about an additional $350 more and got the Thule - which I have always been very satisfied with. I tried to save a little money for which it only created additional down time and disappointment. With this rack you wont make that mistake. My only complaint is it helps to have two people fit this rack into your receiver. It is like a Sherman Tank - which is great for feeling confident in keep your bikes in tack - but lifting out of garage and onto the back of my trailer can be a little bit of work if doing it by yourself. Thanks etrailer for your great Customer Service and help with the replacement! 395868

Very fast shipping and excellent bike rack. It fits our 4 mid-fatty bikes. It is heavy to put back up in its storage position so is a bit of a pain to get in and out of the back of the car, but I don’t think you could help that. 509834

Overall I really like the bike hitch. If there was any down side I would possibly point to the locking bar that engages when you change positions. It doesn't always engage fully unless you play with the rack some either by lifting or shaking it side to side. Not a major problem though. Unless I am missing something, I would like to see some locking device that locks the add on to the front two bike section. It bolts on with two bolts that could be unscrewed and the whole back section removed. Just an added note, one of those 12mm hex head bolts were missing from my hardware packet. It looked as if the package had been opened and the bolt possibly taken out sometime before shipment. I did call customer service and have another bolt coming in the mail. Once the weather warms up I hope to send pics of the rack installed with bikes loaded. Thanks for a great product! I hope to get years of enjoyment out of it. 498127

Needed a 4 bike carrier and once I watched your review videos that really helped me make my decision on which one to buy. Great product and was a little difficult to put together, but once I got into it I figured it. Had to make some adjustments once I put it together to fit my bikes and probably will down the road if I put newer bikes on the rack. Other than that seems solid and cant wait to try it out with all of our bikes on it. 418477

Great bike rack for the money. Easier to attach to hitch that I originally expected. Initial assembly was a bit long, but not too difficult. Plan to use it for long trips, and I expect it to do great. Would recommend over hanging bike racks for sure. Bikes load with absolutely NO difficulty, which I love. 275130

What else would you expect from a Thule product? Easy to assemble and ready to use! For the price I paid, Thule should have included the locks for the lockdown bars! I am very pleased with the product! We’ll built and designed to last! Went by local bike shop today to pick up two bikes being serviced. Bike repair person saw the Thule platform rack and said “couldn’t have bought a better bike rack than a Thule product! 551460

This bike rack has worked out perfectly for my husbands recumbent bike. Easy on and easy off compared to all the hassle of his previous one, makes a big difference when you get back from a long ride and are tired and all you want is to load the bikes and go!! The seller is easy to work with and responded to my questions and concerns promptly...would definitely recommend ordering from them. And the quality of their products are spot on. 255388

Thule bike rack installed on our 1995 wrangler. Very tight but actually got it to close up against a 31x 10.50 spare. We measured 12 inches from the pin to the edge of the spare. Very solid well built rack, should last us many bike seasons! Easy install and set up. 643468

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Overall this is a really good bike rack. I installed it on a 2010 Volkwsagen EOS. The best part about the rack is how easy it is to get bikes on and off, literally 20 seconds per bike once you've done it a couple of times. Unfortunately I can't fold the rack into the upright position with my car, probably because my trailer hitch is installed quite far back from the bumper. I'm not terribly concerned about that though. If you're an EOS owner you know that the trunk lid opens backwards when you operate the roof. I found that there is JUST ENOUGH room to do this with bikes on the rack if you tilt the rack down AND make sure that the pedal on the inside bike is at the 6 o'clock position. Of course you should test it with your own installation to make sure. Installing and removing the rack isn't terribly easy, I found that I had to pretty much lay down on the ground under my car to reach the bolt. 257778

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Good solid rack for carrying mountain bikes with fat tires and or unique frame configurations. My Kuat hanging rack work for my Farley 5 but did not fit my wife's new Fuel 8 Ex frame angle. E- Trailer had a Classic T2 that was lightly used-installation only, for a nice discount. 1. Installation. Never a fan of Thule instructions. Find an install video and don't waste your time with Thule's. All in all assembly and installation is not too bad. 2. Bikes. Holds my Farley with 26" x 4. tires and the Fuel EX with 27.5plus x 2.80" tires. You will need to figure out how to reinsert rear wheel strap to fit. If the instructions show this then they do not explain the need. Both of these wheel sizes need to the strap in the "upper" slot to fit. makes sense once you see it. 3. Rack Function. Tilts easily though the Pro is more civilized in this function. The rear hatch on my 2012 Sante Fe easily clears. I like that you can slide the bike position to the left or right with just loosening some hex bolts. This helps having the bikes pedal to pedal and touching at that point. Its a very solid rack and is heavy but that is OK as it's not like you should expect to be installing this type of rack with every use then remove the rack when done. Etrailer as usual provided great service and delivery. 331485

The service from etrailer was perfect. Delivery of the Thule rack was on time and easy to put together. It does have some weight at 49 lbs but manageable and very sturdy. etrailer honored the low price guarantee when I found the rack for less on another website. I also Installed the trailer hitch with my brother. Its easier with a helper. It went well as described on the video. Having the correct tools is a must including the 18mm deep socket and poly rivet tool. Comments about making the facia cut at least 2.5 inches is good advice. 562822

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Was pretty easy to assemble, but when putting on the plastic wheel cups, the pre-punched holes in the square tubing where you mount them were not punched correctly. There are two slightly different sized holes and ours were punched backwards. We had to use a punch to widen the one hole slightly to allow the cups to be mounted in correct orientation. Not a big deal, but certainly not a step that should have had to be done. If you don't pay attention to the pictures, and your holes are punched incorrectly, you will end up installing your wheel cups backwards simply because that is the only way they will fit in the holes. Also, fat tire bikes will fit in the wheel cups, but the strap to hold the back wheel down is not long enough to go through the wheel and be strapped in. Either the air needs taken out of the back wheel (maybe, we haven't actually tried that yet), or some other tie-down strap would need to be used. Fit the road bikes perfectly - very sturdy. In addition, the mechanism for folding up the rack when not in use is hard to operate. The lever doesn't completely free the "pegs" from the slots to allow folding without some jerking. However, we are pleased with the rack so far and will be using it on its maiden voyage this weekend. 429337

Ask the Experts about this Thule Hitch Bike Racks

  • Why is Thule T2 Bike Rack not Rated for an RV?
The reason the Thule T2 # TH9044-TH9046 and other racks are not rated for use behind an RV is due to how rough the ride is compared to a car; the rack sits much further behind the axle which means a lot of movement. A potential solution for you is the Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01458, which is rated for use with an RV and holds your bikes by the wheels. A hanging rack like the Swagman Trailhead # S63381 may also work if you alternate the way in which you load the bikes. When using a hanging...

No, none of the Thule bike racks are rated for use at the back of an RV or trailer but we do have numerous bike carriers that you can use. • How to Determine if Thule T2 Classic Will Fold Up and Not Hit Bumper
To determine if the Thule T2 part # TH9044-TH9046 is going to fit your 2017 Jeep Cherokee and allow it to fold up without bumper interference will require you to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper. If that dimension is less than 4-1/2 inches this rack would easily fold up and clear the bumper. The SnugTite hitch pin will remove the movement in the hitch so that it doesn't rattle while travelling folded up or down.

There is minimal assembly required for the Thule T2 Classic bike rack # TH9044-TH9046. You will only need the included Thule tools, a 5mm Allen wrench (also included) and 1 flat head screwdriver. I have included links to the instructions for you so you can see what all is involved in assembly. I would say 15 minutes to a half hour and you'll be ready to load the rack in the hitch.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation that Can Safely be Used at the Back of a 5th Wheel Trailer
There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use at the back of a trailer. None of the Thule bike racks are rated for this application because they are not designed to withstand the additional stress associated with the bumpy ride at the back of a trailer. I have included a link to the bike racks that are rated for use at the back of a trailer. If your trailer bumper is 4 inches square, steel, and welded the entire length of the bumper then you can use # S80600 which you can...

  • Is Thule T2 4 Bike Rack Easy to Remove and Install
The Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Rack part # TH9044-TH9046 is a great bike rack and is easy to install and remove. If you fast forward to the 2:23 mark of the review video I attached below you'll see our installer installing the rack to show you that it's a pretty easy process. Also, the rack can fold up when not in use as well to give additional clearance that way too.

  • Length of Thule T2 Classic Bike Rack in 2-Bike Configuration
Yes, the 2-bike configuration of the Thule T2 Classic, # TH9044-TH9046, will look just like # TH9044. I have included a picture as well. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the rack in 2-bike mode (when ready to load bikes or with bikes loaded) is 36 inches. I have included a video showing the 2-bike configuration as well.

  • Recommended Platform Style Bike Rack Convertible Between 2-4 Bikes for 2012 Lincoln MKT
When we installed a Class III hitch on a Ford Flex, we found that the distance between the hitch pin hole and the farthest rearward point of the bumper was right about 3 inches. This dimension on your MKT should be similar. This means that the bike rack you choose would need to have a shank whose hitch pin hole to closest portion of the rack dimension is greater than 3 inches. If you don't already have a hitch, I'd recommend the Curt Class III receiver, part # C13110. I've linked to an...

  • 4- and 5-Bike Hitch Rack Options for Chevrolet Suburban
Four or five full-suspension bikes will have a substantial total weight so a hitch-mounted bike carrier is really your only option. There are no trunk/hatch-mount bike carriers in a 5-bike capacity. The hitch on your Suburban could be either a 2-inch or a 2-1/2-inch size. There are no bike racks made for 2-1/2-inch hitches but it is easy to use a 2-inch rack even in a 2-1/2-inch hitch simply by installing a reducer sleeve such as # 58102. This slips into the larger hitch and drops its...

The Thule T2 Classic # TH9044-TH9046 is primarily constructed of steel, as opposed to the aluminum construction of the Kuat NV 4, part # NV22G-NA22G. The Kuat rack weighs around 82 lbs, while the Thule weighs around 85 lbs.

  • Is 4-Bike Thule T2 Classic Compatible with 2" Hitch Receivers on 2006 and 2016 Toyota Highlander
Since both your 2006 and 2016 Toyota Highlander have 2" trailer hitches you can definitely use the Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Platform Rack # TH9044-TH9046 with both vehicles. Just be mindful that the T2 Classic weighs in at 50 lbs and has a 60 lb per bike weight capacity but then when the add-on is installed it weighs in at 85 lbs and has a weight capacity of 40 lbs per bike. This rack comes with a lock for the bike rack but if you'd like to add locks for the bikes then you can add the...

  • How to Free Up Hard-To-Use Tilt Mechanism of Thule T2 Classic Bike Rack TH9044
The first thing you'd want to do is lubricate all the spots where the rack pivots. A spray lubricant containing silicone would be perfect. Avoid the temptation to use WD-40, as it can attract dust and road gunk. While you're working the latch, have a helper apply some upward force on the rear of the rack. Remove the safety pin and you should be able to fold the rack. Once you work the mechanism back and forth several times it should free up nicely.

  • Can Hooks on Thule T2 Bike Rack Clamp Down on Bike Frames Instead of Tires
The Thule T2 bike rack # TH9044-TH9046 is designed to hold onto the tires of the bikes and not the frame so it would not be a good option for bikes with fenders or baskets. For a platform style bike rack that does have hooks that clamp down on the frame I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider, # HR1400Z. I have included a link to a video review of this bike rack for you.

Yes, The Thule T2 Classic Platform-Style 4 Bike Carrier, # TH9044-TH9046, will separate into a 2 bike rack and can be reassembled as a 4 bike rack. This rack is a combination of the T2 Classic bike rack, # TH9044, and the T2, 2-Bike Expansion Accessory, # TH9046. Yes, if you had a 2 inch hitch installed on the towed vehicle of your flat towing setup you could install the Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Platform Rack # TH9044-TH9046 that you referenced and it would work well. I attached a review video link for this bike rack for you to check out as well.

  • Will the Thule T2 Bike Rack Fit a 2005 to 2007 Honda Odyssey
If your 2005 to 2007 Honda Odyssey has a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver opening then yes, the Thule T2 bike rack # TH9044-TH9046 will fit your van. But it will likely not be able to fold up because hitches on your van tend to be recessed several inches under the vehicle. For another option that has more clearance I recommend the Kuat NV # NV22G-NA22G. It measures 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the rack when folded up. The Yakima HoldUp # Y02443-2...

I went to our warehouse and took some measurements for you. I have attached a photo of the Kuat Bike Rack, part # NV22G-NA22G that shows the dimensions you asked about. As you can see, there is very little room for between the arms and posts to allow the camera view to be clear. The Thule bike carrier, part # TH9044-TH9046 has similar dimensions, and would certainly obstruct part if not all of the camera view. Due to the bit of flexibility in the arms there will be some variation in...

  • Compatibility of Thule T2 4-Bike on either a 2016 Honda Pilot or Subaru Forester
I can help you find a solution for your Thule T2 4-Bike Rack # TH9044-TH9046. The two big measurements we want to pay attention to for if your T2 will fit on either of these vehicles is the distance of the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper and the measurement of the center of the hitch pin hole to the first contact of the carrier when folded up. When the T2 is folded up the wheel hoops are the first to contact and that measurement to the pin hole is about 4.5 inches....

  • Can Cargo Carrier Be Installed on Thule 4-Bike Platform Rack TH9044-TH9046
The Thule T2 # TH9044-TH9046 isn't designed, intended or recommended for use with a cargo carrying tray. Due to the size of the square tubing, the shank of the carrier wouldn't fit in the bike rack. A bike rack set-up like the Hollywood Racks # HR1400Z-85 IS an excellent idea, but it only carries two bikes and if you take a close look at the specifications, when used with the bike rack the cargo tray will be limited to a 90 lb weight capacity (which isn't much). This is because the cargo...

And then the height above the center of the hitch tube measures 8.9 inches. Correct, the Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Platform Rack part # TH9044-TH9046 actually comes with two main pieces. The first main piece is a two bike rack and the second main piece is a two bike add-on. If you only wanted to use the bike rack with two bikes then you would just not install the add-on or if you have the add-on installed and only need to carry two bikes you can remove this by taking out the lynch pin. • Recommended 4 Bike Carrier That Can be Converted to 2 Bike Carrier
For a similar bike rack that can be converted from 4 to 2 bikes, I recommend the Pro Series Q-Slot # PS63138. When you are hauling 2 bikes the weight capacity is 90 lbs, and when you install the add-on, that weight capacity is increased to 140 lbs. It secures the bikes to the bike rack by using the cushioned hooks and the hook-and-loop wheel straps This is our basic version of...

The weight of the packaging for both hitch classes is essentially identical. A far more important consideration for your application with a 2-inch bike carrier is the hitch's tongue weight capacity, which is 525-lbs for a 2-inch Class III hitch and 350-lbs for a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch. All three of the bike racks you mentioned are great options. Since you mentioned ease of installation I would recommend going with the lightest option of the three as that will make the biggest difference there. The Freedom SuperClamp part # SA4026F weighs in at 63 lbs, the T2 part # TH9044-TH9046 weighs 85 lbs, and the NV part # NV22G-NA22G weighs 82 lbs. Between those three I would go with the SuperClamp because it is considerable lighter than the other two. But honestly these three...
