Note: The T2 Classic includes 1 One-Key System lock cylinder to secure the rack to your vehicle. However, if you want to add lock cylinders to the ratcheting arms you will need to purchase the lock cylinder 6-pack (TH596 - sold separately) to have all the locks keyed alike.

T2 Classic with Add-On for 2" Hitches

The Thule T2 Classic platform-style bike rack lets you carry 4 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The rack is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles, and it can hold bikes with fat tires up to 5" wide. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel trays secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The rack tilts down with bikes loaded so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it folds up when not in use.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Ratcheting Wheel Hook

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 4 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms and front wheel cradles securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply set your bike on the rack and pivot the upright arm up and over the front wheel. Then just ratchet the hook down so it firmly grips your wheel.

Wheel Hook Lock Core

The arms can also be locked in place with Thule One-Key System lock cylinders (TH544 - sold separately). One-Key System cylinders can be swapped out to make all of your Thule gear keyed alike.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle

The sliding rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long, and they accommodate tires up to 5" wide. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

Regular Strap Length

For road bikes and mountain bikes insert the strap into the hole at the bottom of the cradle. Then run the strap along the side and over the top of the cradle.

Fat Tire Strap Length

For fat tire bikes insert the strap under the bracket on the side of the cradle. Then simply run the strap over the top of the cradle.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and rear bike trays are fully adjustable to ensure you have enough space when mounting your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base, slide the tray front to back and side to side to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

HitchSwitch Lever

The integrated HitchSwitch lever allows the T2 Classic to easily tilt. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient rear cargo area access.

Rack Tilts Up for Storage

It also folds up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device

SnugTite Hitch Lock

The rack includes a SnugTite hitch lock and anti-rattle device. The hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch with the included One-Key System lock cylinder. And the threaded hitch pin eliminates movement and rattle in the hitch.

Video Transcript for Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Rack Review

Today, we'll be taking a look at the Thule T2 Classic Platform Style Tilting 4-Bike Rack for 2-inch hitches. Part Number TH9044-TH9046. This platform style 4-bike rack tilts away even when the bikes are loaded allowing you full access to your rear hatch. Now, it is a 2-person job, so I'm going to have a buddy come in and give me a hand. What you'll want to do is you'll want to take the pin out and then push in on the gray lever. We can open up our rear hatch and get anything we need. When you're done, simply lift up to secure it back in place.

Then, we'll just replace the pin and we've got it. A lot of 4-bike racks can be pretty tight when fully loaded, but as you can see, the T2 Classic offers more than adequate spacing for our bikes. It's going to fit a wide variety of bikes. As you can see, I've got a mountain bike here, ladies' bike, a road bike, and a kid's bike. It secures the bike with wheel hooks and wheel straps. There is no frame contact.

The wheel hooks ratchet down allowing it to accommodate a wide variety of bike tire sizes that can also be locked with Thule Locking Cores, Part Number TH544. The rear tires are held in place by a ratcheting strap. It also features a soft rubber pad. We'll go ahead and take a bike off, so we can get a closer look. The front wheel cradles will accommodate a wide variety of tire widths.

You've got your narrow road bike tire here, a mountain bike tire, all the way out to a 5-inch fat tire size. The wheel hooks pivot out of the way making it easier to load up our 4 bikes. They also have rubber padding. The rear wheel cradles are adjustable along the tray. This allows it to accommodate bikes of different wheel bases. Each tray can support up to 60 pounds, but you want to be sure not to exceed 160 pounds when fully loaded.

The bike rack is made out of a solid steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it's going to be stylish, and it's going to resist rust and corrosion. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the end of the shank is 55 inches, so just keep in mind, you're going to be adding quite a bit of length to the end of your vehicle. When not in use, the bike rack folds up against the vehicle. This would be ideal for pulling in your garage or a tight parking spot. The T2 Classic offers a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over all the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing you'll want to do is go ahead and load up your 2 bike, so we're just going to just slide it into our 2-inch receiver and line up our pinholes. Once we get those pinholes lined up, we can take our included anti-rattle bolt and lock, and we're going to thread that through on the passenger side. Once we get that hand-tight, we can then get our included wrench and tighten that the rest of the way down. Now that that's done, we can go ahead and put our lock on, lock it in place, and then we've got it. Now, in order to put on our extension, we're going to tilt this down. It's just going to make it a little bit easier to put that on. We'll come over here to our gray handle, pull up, and then tilt it down until it snaps in place. Now, we can grab our extension and just slide it in the back. If you've got an end cap there, you'll want to go ahead and remove that. We'll just line it up in the back and then slide it on. Now, if you're having some trouble sliding it in, it's not a bad idea to use some spray lubricant. It's just going to make it a little bit easier. Now, you want to be sure and push it in far enough to where your holes line up, and so that you can put your bolt through. If you notice here there may be a small gap, that's not big deal. We'll take our included hardware and run that through. We've got 1 bolt that's going to go in the side as you see here, and there's going to be 1 going in on the bottom. We'll get both of those finger-tight, and we'll take our included tool and tighten them down. All right. That looks pretty good. Now, we can get ready to load up our bikes. We'll need to fold out our wheel hook. We'll also want to make sure it's raised all the way out, press in on this gray button here. We'll also want to make sure that our rear wheel strap is undone ready to receive our back tire. Now, let's grab our bike. Now, when loading up your bikes, it's important to load up the heaviest bike first. We'll come up, we'll set the front tire in the front wheel cradle there and the rear in the rear. Now, once we have it seated in the cradles, we'll come up to our front wheel hook here, lower it down in front of our fork or our brakes, whatever comes first, give it a nice push. As you can see, it's going to hold it in place. Then, we'll come back to our rear wheel strap. We'll want to be sure to adjust our cradle, front or back, make sure it's center with the tire. Then, we'll want to adjust our wheel, so that the strap can go between our spokes. Then, we'll just pull that down and then we've got it. Now, if we need to for the rest of our bikes, we can adjust our tray. You simply loosen these 4 bolts here. We can move it front to back or from side to side within these lines. Now, let's load up the rest of the bikes. Now, with all 4 bikes loaded up, let's go ahead and take it on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side-to-side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then, onto our alternating speed bumps, this is going to show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Then, finally onto our solid speed bumps, this is going to show an up-and-down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking garage. That's going to complete our look of the Thule T2 classic Platform Style Tilting 4-Bike Rack for 2-inch hitches. Part Number TH9044-TH9046. .

I really have no complaints about this rack. What I can say is you get what you pay for. I first tried out a less expensive rack from etrailer and it did not fit my girls bikes well and the construction I was disappointed in. But etrailer took back the old one and I upgraded and spend about an additional $350 more and got the Thule - which I have always been very satisfied with. I tried to save a little money for which it only created additional down time and disappointment. With this rack you wont make that mistake. My only complaint is it helps to have two people fit this rack into your receiver. It is like a Sherman Tank - which is great for feeling confident in keep your bikes in tack - but lifting out of garage and onto the back of my trailer can be a little bit of work if doing it by yourself. Thanks etrailer for your great Customer Service and help with the replacement! 395868

Very fast shipping and excellent bike rack. It fits our 4 mid-fatty bikes. It is heavy to put back up in its storage position so is a bit of a pain to get in and out of the back of the car, but I don’t think you could help that. 509834

Overall I really like the bike hitch. If there was any down side I would possibly point to the locking bar that engages when you change positions. It doesn't always engage fully unless you play with the rack some either by lifting or shaking it side to side. Not a major problem though. Unless I am missing something, I would like to see some locking device that locks the add on to the front two bike section. It bolts on with two bolts that could be unscrewed and the whole back section removed. Just an added note, one of those 12mm hex head bolts were missing from my hardware packet. It looked as if the package had been opened and the bolt possibly taken out sometime before shipment. I did call customer service and have another bolt coming in the mail. Once the weather warms up I hope to send pics of the rack installed with bikes loaded. Thanks for a great product! I hope to get years of enjoyment out of it. 498127

Needed a 4 bike carrier and once I watched your review videos that really helped me make my decision on which one to buy. Great product and was a little difficult to put together, but once I got into it I figured it. Had to make some adjustments once I put it together to fit my bikes and probably will down the road if I put newer bikes on the rack. Other than that seems solid and cant wait to try it out with all of our bikes on it. 418477

Great bike rack for the money. Easier to attach to hitch that I originally expected. Initial assembly was a bit long, but not too difficult. Plan to use it for long trips, and I expect it to do great. Would recommend over hanging bike racks for sure. Bikes load with absolutely NO difficulty, which I love. 275130

This bike rack has worked out perfectly for my husbands recumbent bike. Easy on and easy off compared to all the hassle of his previous one, makes a big difference when you get back from a long ride and are tired and all you want is to load the bikes and go!! The seller is easy to work with and responded to my questions and concerns promptly...would definitely recommend ordering from them. And the quality of their products are spot on. 255388

Great product. We just got a new convertible and I could not use the roof mount or trunk mount. Using the bikes was important. Taking care of the bikes is important too. This bike rack is really the best I have ever had. It is extremely easy to use. I like that it has built in locks. I can use the hard top convertible on the VW Eos if I only have one bike positioned outward. It also works with no bikes installed. I could not be happier with this product and the incredible price, fast shipping and overall value from etrailer.com. 27662

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Overall this is a really good bike rack. I installed it on a 2010 Volkwsagen EOS. The best part about the rack is how easy it is to get bikes on and off, literally 20 seconds per bike once you've done it a couple of times. Unfortunately I can't fold the rack into the upright position with my car, probably because my trailer hitch is installed quite far back from the bumper. I'm not terribly concerned about that though. If you're an EOS owner you know that the trunk lid opens backwards when you operate the roof. I found that there is JUST ENOUGH room to do this with bikes on the rack if you tilt the rack down AND make sure that the pedal on the inside bike is at the 6 o'clock position. Of course you should test it with your own installation to make sure. Installing and removing the rack isn't terribly easy, I found that I had to pretty much lay down on the ground under my car to reach the bolt. 257778

Once again, etrailer has done an awesome job. I’ve bought a few trailer hitches for my vehicles from them and they have all been awesome. From the start of the process to the follow up after delivery, I have no doubt that they really care that you are 100% satisfied with the product and the service. As far as the Thule bike carrier goes, NICE! Built very well and delivered on the day promised with no damage. Quality product, great price. THANKS!!!! 473823

It's a good solid bike rack overall. The biggest negative issue is the release mechanism for raising and lowering the rack. It's difficult to get it to fully disengage. Makes raising and lowering frustrating. Perhaps that's why this model was discontinued. 373471

George, this rack has not been discontinued, but replaces TH917XTR. If you are having a problem with raising and lowering your rack, please give us a call at 1-800-298-8924. We would love to help!

Description is confusing...three locks are included which secure the bikes. Two more locks are required, to provide extra security but the to pack lock keys will not match. A set of six extra locks are required to make the hitch a on key system. 32012

Comments

I bought 2 additional locks that matched my existing locks

Thanks for the response Glenn, you are correct if you have an existing Thule key number we can usually match additional lock cores to minimize the need for additional keys.

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Good solid rack for carrying mountain bikes with fat tires and or unique frame configurations. My Kuat hanging rack work for my Farley 5 but did not fit my wife's new Fuel 8 Ex frame angle. E- Trailer had a Classic T2 that was lightly used-installation only, for a nice discount. 1. Installation. Never a fan of Thule instructions. Find an install video and don't waste your time with Thule's. All in all assembly and installation is not too bad. 2. Bikes. Holds my Farley with 26" x 4. tires and the Fuel EX with 27.5plus x 2.80" tires. You will need to figure out how to reinsert rear wheel strap to fit. If the instructions show this then they do not explain the need. Both of these wheel sizes need to the strap in the "upper" slot to fit. makes sense once you see it. 3. Rack Function. Tilts easily though the Pro is more civilized in this function. The rear hatch on my 2012 Sante Fe easily clears. I like that you can slide the bike position to the left or right with just loosening some hex bolts. This helps having the bikes pedal to pedal and touching at that point. Its a very solid rack and is heavy but that is OK as it's not like you should expect to be installing this type of rack with every use then remove the rack when done. Etrailer as usual provided great service and delivery. 331485

What else would you expect from a Thule product? Easy to assemble and ready to use! For the price I paid, Thule should have included the locks for the lockdown bars! I am very pleased with the product! We’ll built and designed to last! Went by local bike shop today to pick up two bikes being serviced. Bike repair person saw the Thule platform rack and said “couldn’t have bought a better bike rack than a Thule product! 551460

After looking at several bike racks and doing comparisons we chose the Thule t2. We loved the versatility and ease of operation as well as the built in locks. My wife can operate it with ease even when I am not there. She has even been known to install it on the car herself when I am not home. We bought the two bike version but it is easy to make it a four bike with the purchase of the add on which it is already made for without any modification. For us it was the best one regardless of the cost. I also love that it doesn't clamp down on any part of the frame. 378692

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Was pretty easy to assemble, but when putting on the plastic wheel cups, the pre-punched holes in the square tubing where you mount them were not punched correctly. There are two slightly different sized holes and ours were punched backwards. We had to use a punch to widen the one hole slightly to allow the cups to be mounted in correct orientation. Not a big deal, but certainly not a step that should have had to be done. If you don't pay attention to the pictures, and your holes are punched incorrectly, you will end up installing your wheel cups backwards simply because that is the only way they will fit in the holes. Also, fat tire bikes will fit in the wheel cups, but the strap to hold the back wheel down is not long enough to go through the wheel and be strapped in. Either the air needs taken out of the back wheel (maybe, we haven't actually tried that yet), or some other tie-down strap would need to be used. Fit the road bikes perfectly - very sturdy. In addition, the mechanism for folding up the rack when not in use is hard to operate. The lever doesn't completely free the "pegs" from the slots to allow folding without some jerking. However, we are pleased with the rack so far and will be using it on its maiden voyage this weekend. 429337

Installed the Thule T2 Classic onto a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. I am a data analyst, so all I do all day is work on a computer and have no real experience with tools, but the installation was easy. Before installing the bike rack, I would load two bikes into the back of the SUV, and it was becoming annoying. With the bike rack, I am able to quickly load and unload bikes. 388692

Would give it a 5 star, but the clearance on the wheel holder would not let me get it into place with my Wendego 2.0 because of the quick release clamp. Since I can't swap sides with it the work around is to remove the quick release axle, raise the tire holder, put the axle back in and tighten then lock the wheel in place. On the positive side, don't have to lock it since they won't be able to figure it out very fast. Overall, great workmanship. Heavy duty with good clear directions. 546431

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

My first--and probably last--bike rack. High quality build and materials. Easy to load and secure bikes and holds them in very solidly while traveling. Right off the bat, headed out to Big Bend National Park--about a 10 hour drive from home--and never worried a second about the security of my bike. Great product and service from etrailer.com as well! 358837

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

My order was handled in a timely manner. I ordered the product one evening, the product was shipped the next morning, and the product was received the next day. The product ordered was a Thule bike carrier (I also ordered a trailer hitch the same evening and also received it the same day as the carrier). Both products were as advertised and fit my car and functioned properly. This was my first experience with etrailer and, if needed, would use them again. I am very satisfied. 385661

The rack meets all my expectations and more. I include this picture because I remember reading a note that said the rack could not carry bikes with fenders. Obviously that is not so, they attach just fine! 456326

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Thule makes a very sturdy bike carrier. I do have a couple of minor issues, however. First when assembling the product, if you follow the instructions and slide the cross bars over the main bar with the clamps already attached loosely,, it scrapes up the Thule logo on the main bar (which is just stick on vinyl). You really need to position the cross bars on the main bar where you want them, then attach their mounting clamps. The second issue was a little more serious. Pulling up on the unlocking lever to fold the rack down, the “ear” on the back side of the right side locking notch was too high. The square locking pin could not pulled up high enough to release it from the notch on that one side, no matter how firmly you pulled in the unlocking lever. The solution was to grind down the top of that ear just a few thousanths of an inch so the locking pin would clear. The only problem now is the top of that ear now has a small rust spot on it where I had to grind down the metal and remove their super tough powder coat finish. 555193

Arrived on time. Unpacked the rack, and was a bit surprised that there were no paper instructions. Went to the Thule web and downloaded the instructions. The instruction from Thule was average at best (I looked at you tube videos and found better information there). I had the rack built and on the back of my truck in about 1.5 hours. Put the bikes on to check out the width and had to do some more adjustments (I recommend only gently tightening the Allen nuts initially, it makes the follow up adjustments easier) laterally and also create a little more width between the two Racks. I have used the T2 rack twice now. It is rock solid. I bought the two extra locks and I carry a cable lock for add theft protection. Great product, a bit cumbersome to put together. 513353

I bought a Thule T2 Classic Platform 2 Bike Rack. The product seems very solid and secure. Can't wait to take our bikes on a long trip. The service from etrailer was outstanding. I found them very conscientious and supportive. Would definitely recommend! 320891

Easy to operate. Takes less space to store. Better visibility when driving. Less bouncing if any while traveling. Simpler to attach and remove trailer. Also placing and taking bikes off rack is vastly improved over previous bike rack we used.

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

I needed this rack because I have two Fat Bikes, and one is a 50 lb ebike. I am very happy with the rack, but you better know what you're getting into. I currently have 4 different bike racks....hitch and trunk mount. This rack is a monster! It is bulky, heavy, and difficult to assemble. The directions for assembly were confusing, and I finally had the best results just looking at the picture on the box. I drive a Volvo XC90. You would think a Swedish rack would fit a Swedish car. The rack will not fold up. It hits the rear of the Volvo. To adjust the rack would result in the bikes too far out, and too close together on the support beam. I may cut down the front wheel holder. Otherwise the rack is great. Similar racks would have been much more money. I like the locking feature, but Thule should include the lock cylinders in the purchase of the rack. This is my first Thule rack. It holds the bikes two Fat Bikes very securely. I even tried two road bikes and was very happy with the security. This rack is a bit overkill for the road bikes, but if you have bizarre frame geometry, this is the way to transport. 250236

Thule bike rack installed on our 1995 wrangler. Very tight but actually got it to close up against a 31x 10.50 spare. We measured 12 inches from the pin to the edge of the spare. Very solid well built rack, should last us many bike seasons! Easy install and set up. 643468

Review from a similar Thule T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

The rack is excellent, very easy to use. Two things any buyer should know, it is designed to be left on your car all the time. I take it on and off rather than just flipping it up because of garage space requirements. Not a huge deal, but you can tell it's designed to be flipped up and left on. The other things worth noting is you need to be careful if you've got a flat tire, the bike will be very loose if the tire is deflating in the rack. Again, not a huge deal, just something to be aware of. Overall I love this rack and would recommend highly for the ease of use (easy on, easy off with the bike) and clear quality of the design/build 584911

The service from etrailer was perfect. Delivery of the Thule rack was on time and easy to put together. It does have some weight at 49 lbs but manageable and very sturdy. etrailer honored the low price guarantee when I found the rack for less on another website. I also Installed the trailer hitch with my brother. Its easier with a helper. It went well as described on the video. Having the correct tools is a must including the 18mm deep socket and poly rivet tool. Comments about making the facia cut at least 2.5 inches is good advice. 562822

  • Recommended Fat Bike Beach Cruiser Bike Rack For 2009 BMW X3
  • The Thule Apex 4 Bike Rack # TH9025XT and the Thule Helium Aero 3-Bike Rack # TH9043PRO are similar in many respects. They differ in the number of bikes they carry and the materials with which they are made. The Apex is steel and weighs about 44 lbs where the Helium is Aluminum and weighs about 23 lbs. These are both nice bike racks but they will limit you to 35 lbs per bike which is where your fat tire beach cruiser have issue as those bikes are normally heavier than that. If this...

Keep in mind that the 12-3/4 inch clearance measurement for Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Platform Style Item # S64665 is for just the bike rack. When you are hauling 2 bikes the weight capacity is 90 lbs, and when you install the add-on, that weight capacity is increased to 140 lbs. It secures the bikes to the bike rack by using the cushioned hooks and the hook-and-loop wheel straps This is our basic version of...

  • Why is Thule T2 Bike Rack not Rated for an RV?
  • The reason the Thule T2 # TH9044-TH9046 and other racks are not rated for use behind an RV is due to how rough the ride is compared to a car; the rack sits much further behind the axle which means a lot of movement. A potential solution for you is the Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01458, which is rated for use with an RV and holds your bikes by the wheels. A far more important consideration for your application with a 2-inch bike carrier is the hitch's tongue weight capacity, which is 525-lbs for a 2-inch Class III hitch and 350-lbs for a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch. The platform rack will also give you a greater ability to keep the 4 bikes staggered which will help prevent them from coming into contact which is maybe why that 4th bike never fit with the wider handlebars. • How to Determine if Thule T2 Classic Will Fold Up and Not Hit Bumper
  • To determine if the Thule T2 part # TH9044-TH9046 is going to fit your 2017 Jeep Cherokee and allow it to fold up without bumper interference will require you to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper. If that dimension is less than 4-1/2 inches this rack would easily fold up and clear the bumper. The SnugTite hitch pin will remove the movement in the hitch so that it doesn't rattle while travelling folded up or down.
