T2 Classic with Add-On for 2" Hitches

The Thule T2 Classic platform-style bike rack lets you carry 4 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. The rack is designed to carry bicycles of varying sizes and styles, and it can hold bikes with fat tires up to 5" wide. The bike trays adjust to optimize bike spacing and reduce bike-to-bike contact. The ratcheting arms and wheel trays secure your bikes by the wheels so there's no frame contact. The rack tilts down with bikes loaded so you can access your vehicle's rear cargo area, and it folds up when not in use.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Ratcheting Wheel Hook

The rack allows you to quickly and easily load and carry 4 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. The ratcheting arms and front wheel cradles securely hold your bikes by the front wheels so there's no frame contact. Simply set your bike on the rack and pivot the upright arm up and over the front wheel. Then just ratchet the hook down so it firmly grips your wheel.

Wheel Hook Lock Core

The arms can also be locked in place with Thule One-Key System lock cylinders (TH450400- sold separately). One-Key System cylinders can be swapped out to make all of your Thule gear keyed alike.

Sliding Rear-Wheel Cradle

The sliding rear-wheel cradles allow the rack to accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 48" long, and they accommodate tires up to 5" wide. The cradles include ratcheting, rubber straps to hold your bikes' rear wheels securely in place on the tray.

Regular Strap Length

For road bikes and mountain bikes insert the strap into the hole at the bottom of the cradle. Then run the strap along the side and over the top of the cradle.

Fat Tire Strap Length

For fat tire bikes insert the strap under the bracket on the side of the cradle. Then simply run the strap over the top of the cradle.

Fully Adjustable Bike Trays

Adjustable Bike Trays

The front and rear bike trays are fully adjustable to ensure you have enough space when mounting your bikes. Just loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base, slide the tray front to back and side to side to achieve the desired spacing, and then tighten the bolts. This will prevent your bikes' handlebars from becoming tangled, and it eliminates the fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Tilting and Folding Design

HitchSwitch Lever

The integrated HitchSwitch lever allows the T2 Classic to easily tilt. The rack tilts down with or without bikes loaded for convenient rear cargo area access.

Rack Tilts Up for Storage

It also folds up for storage when you're not transporting a bike. This is great for parking in places where space is limited such as a parking garage.

Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device

SnugTite Hitch Lock

The rack includes a SnugTite hitch lock and anti-rattle device. The hitch lock secures the rack to your hitch with the included One-Key System lock cylinder. And the threaded hitch pin eliminates movement and rattle in the hitch.

This is the best bike rack I have ever owned and multiple family and friends have also purchased this rack after using it

- TH9044-TH9046

This rack is fantastic! We've had it a year and I would purchase it again for sure! Lightweight, easy to maneuver, never lost a bike:) Great buy!

- TH9044-TH9046

Product is excellent. Have used a four stage bike rack. Only problem I have had this year is the locking bolt which holds the rack to the trailer hitch stripped out while in the middle of a bike trip. I highly recommend carrying a spare locking bolt with you at all times. This is a single point of product failure. Luck would have it, a local bike shop (one of three in the area checked) had a replacement part. The bike rack also handles my wife's electric bike, along with three other bikes in the family. Have had great success this year and much happy family time together with it in northern MI.

I really have no complaints about this rack. What I can say is you get what you pay for. I first tried out a less expensive rack from etrailer and it did not fit my girls bikes well and the construction I was disappointed in. But etrailer took back the old one and I upgraded and spend about an additional $350 more and got the Thule - which I have always been very satisfied with. I tried to save a little money for which it only created additional down time and disappointment. With this rack you wont make that mistake. My only complaint is it helps to have two people fit this rack into your receiver. It is like a Sherman Tank - which is great for feeling confident in keep your bikes in tack - but lifting out of garage and onto the back of my trailer can be a little bit of work if doing it by yourself. Thanks etrailer for your great Customer Service and help with the replacement!

- TH9044-TH9046

Overall I really like the bike hitch. If there was any down side I would possibly point to the locking bar that engages when you change positions. It doesn't always engage fully unless you play with the rack some either by lifting or shaking it side to side. Not a major problem though. Unless I am missing something, I would like to see some locking device that locks the add on to the front two bike section. It bolts on with two bolts that could be unscrewed and the whole back section removed. Just an added note, one of those 12mm hex head bolts were missing from my hardware packet. It looked as if the package had been opened and the bolt possibly taken out sometime before shipment. I did call customer service and have another bolt coming in the mail. Once the weather warms up I hope to send pics of the rack installed with bikes loaded. Thanks for a great product! I hope to get years of enjoyment out of it.

Though i have only put together the Thule bike rack everything delivered quickly and in great shape. It took me a month and a half to get time to start putting it together and i was missing one lock nut. I called customer service and Brian helped me with the bolt as well as another item i forgot to order initially. By the way i loved the email link do the videos and pdf's.

- TH9044-TH9046

Loved this rack, I got the add on so I can use it just for me or make it so it can hold bikes of friends. Easy take on and off.

It is still working awesome, love the product

Great bike rack for the money. Easier to attach to hitch that I originally expected. Initial assembly was a bit long, but not too difficult. Plan to use it for long trips, and I expect it to do great. Would recommend over hanging bike racks for sure. Bikes load with absolutely NO difficulty, which I love.

Wow!!! etrailer really came thru and figured out a way to get this to me last minute before we started our holiday travels. Hats off to Greg S at etrailer for going truly over and above to help us out. Best price on the internet AND incredible customer service; what a winning combination! I will come to etrailer first for my next purchase. Thank you etrailer and Greg S!!!!

Needed a 4 bike carrier and once I watched your review videos that really helped me make my decision on which one to buy. Great product and was a little difficult to put together, but once I got into it I figured it. Had to make some adjustments once I put it together to fit my bikes and probably will down the road if I put newer bikes on the rack. Other than that seems solid and cant wait to try it out with all of our bikes on it.

- TH9044-TH9046

Like the product, but the installation instructions which came with the product were less than desirable. I had to download a YouTube video to make the process easier than noted in the written instructions.

- TH9044-TH9046

Very fast shipping and excellent bike rack. It fits our 4 mid-fatty bikes. It is heavy to put back up in its storage position so is a bit of a pain to get in and out of the back of the car, but I don’t think you could help that.

- TH9044-TH9046

Delivered in two days. Minimal assembly went well. Rack feels exceptionally sturdy.

- TH9044-TH9046

- TH9044-TH9046

Works as advertised. Install is pretty easy and quick if you are mechanical.

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Box arrived pretty beaten up but contents inside were packed well and not damaged. Assembly instructions were pretty simple particularly after watching a video specific to this model. Tools provided were sufficient for assembly but having a 3/4” socket wrench would have made assembly faster. All parts fit as intended. The bike rack appears to be solid and top quality. It looks like it will be easy to load the bikes securely. I’ll know more after I use it this weekend.

Really like this bike rack. The weight of the rack is not too heavy to easily manage the attachment to the hitch and it feels sturdy. After the first use it is now easy to load two bikes in very little time. Bikes feel very secure to rack and no issues to date to report. If I could change one feature, it would be to have a tilt option so that there would be access to the back lift gate after the bikes are loaded on the rack. However, the lack of this one feature is not a deal breaker.

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Bike rack itself is very high quality; I look forward to using it for our new bicycles. I love that we can still open the back of the SUV. It's actually pretty easy to install; we used a socket wrench instead of the tool that was provided which made it much easier. The markings for installing the brackets are just vinyl tape, which peeled off while we were sliding the brackets in place so we used a silver sharpie to mark the spots. YouTube has several videos which can help with install, if needed. Just be sure to install the correct bike holder on first (the locking arms need to both be towards the inside) or you will not be able to use the lever to lower it from the "stored against the vehicle" position.

Fabulous product! One year later and I cannot say enough good things about this bike rack! I’m a 60-year female who can put the Thule on our vehicles without assistance.

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

This is a top-notch company from top to bottom. Their website makes it easy to find the product that will work for you. Their employees are knowledgeable and understand customer service. That can be a pretty rare thing in today's world. Everyone talks about customer service but very few really deliver. The Thule bike carrier we bought a year ago is meeting all of our expectations.

Very pleased with the product 12 months later.

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

Thule bike rack installed on our 1995 wrangler. Very tight but actually got it to close up against a 31x 10.50 spare. We measured 12 inches from the pin to the edge of the spare. Very solid well built rack, should last us many bike seasons! Easy install and set up.

As anticipated this rack has been sturdy and dependable. Carried bikes on back of our fifth wheel to Key West and all over Florida-no issues! Back on our Jeep again, great product!

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

This is my second Thule bike carrier. I downsized from a 4 bike to a 2 bike platform. I did have trouble with lifting the latch to fold the carrier down for use. The small metal bar inside the latch would not align on both sides of the slot preventing the latch from opening all the way. I would use a screwdriver to maneuver the bar to fully open the latch. This was very frustrating. I have since loaded the latch and metal bar with grease and it is now moving easier. I've also found the platform hard to move up and down and requires a bit more strength than I have. I do love the way the bikes load and mount. I still highly recommend Thule products.

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

I have had trouble keeping the bike secure during long travels with considerable winds. Almost lost my bike on a trip from Minnesota to Illinois last year. Since then, I double down by using a rubber strap to hold bike(s) in place when on long vehicle trips. Other than that concern, bikes are easy on and easy off and the rack is compact enough that I can keep it on the back end of my vehicle and park it in my tight garage.

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

I used this on a fifth wheel RV with 2 heavy e-bikes. It works great. I strongly recommend you get an anti-rattle hitch stabilizer. Etrailer has them. Inexpensive and it will lock the draw bar to the receiver and eliminate the bike rack wobbling and rattling around.

Review from a similar T2 Classic in Hitch Bike Racks

I have to get a trailer hitch extension in order for the bike rack to fold up when not in use. Definitely will go through etrailer for this item.

Thanks for your review, Mike. Please note that using a hitch extender for your bike rack will reduce the hitch tongue weight by 50 percent.

  • Comparing Yakima HoldUp EVO, the Thule T2 Classic, and the Thule T2 Pro XTR + 2-Bike Add-On
Out of the Yakima HoldUp EVO # Y02479-2, the Thule T2 Classic # TH9044-TH9046, and the Thule T2 Pro XTR with 2-bike add on, parts # TH83JV and # TH9036XT, I recommend the T2 Pro XTR hands-down. All 3 bike racks are great options and feature really useful things, but the T2 Pro XTR has the most weight capacity, weighs 20 lbs less than the HoldUp EVO, and is has that handle release at the rearmost part of the carrier as opposed to the forward-most part of the carrier like the T2 Classic....

  • Is Thule T2 Bike Rack Add On Easily Stolen
That's a good question and I wish there was a locking bolt or something similar we could recommend but for the T2 the only theft deterrent for the add-on is going to be the nut and bolt. It would take some serious premeditation for a thief to steal the add-on of the # TH9044-TH9046 as they'd have to happen upon your bike rack with no one around and the right tools on them. You could use a cable lock like part # TH538XT wrapped around the extension and through the safety chain loops of...

  • Why is Thule T2 Bike Rack not Rated for an RV?
The reason the Thule T2 # TH9044-TH9046 and other racks are not rated for use behind an RV is due to how rough the ride is compared to a car; the rack sits much further behind the axle which means a lot of movement. A potential solution for you is the Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01458, which is rated for use with an RV and holds your bikes by the wheels. The first thing you'd want to do is lubricate all the spots where the rack pivots. A spray lubricant containing silicone would be perfect. Avoid the temptation to use WD-40, as it can attract dust and road gunk. While you're working the latch, have a helper apply some upward force on the rear of the rack. Remove the safety pin and you should be able to fold the rack. Once you work the mechanism back and forth several times it should free up nicely.

  • How to Determine if Thule T2 Classic Will Fold Up and Not Hit Bumper
To determine if the Thule T2 part # TH9044-TH9046 is going to fit your 2017 Jeep Cherokee and allow it to fold up without bumper interference will require you to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper. If that dimension is less than 4-1/2 inches this rack would easily fold up and clear the bumper. The SnugTite hitch pin will remove the movement in the hitch so that it doesn't rattle while travelling folded up or down.

  • Is 4-Bike Thule T2 Classic Compatible with 2" Hitch Receivers on 2006 and 2016 Toyota Highlander
Since both your 2006 and 2016 Toyota Highlander have 2" trailer hitches you can definitely use the Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Platform Rack # TH9044-TH9046 with both vehicles. Just be mindful that the T2 Classic weighs in at 50 lbs and has a 60 lb per bike weight capacity but then when the add-on is installed it weighs in at 85 lbs and has a weight capacity of 40 lbs per bike. This rack comes with a lock for the bike rack but if you'd like to add locks for the bikes then you can add the...

  • Is There An End Cap for the Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Platform Rack When Used As A 2 Bike Rack
Correct, the Thule T2 Classic 4 Bike Platform Rack part # TH9044-TH9046 actually comes with two main pieces. The first main piece is a two bike rack and the second main piece is a two bike add-on. If you only wanted to use the bike rack with two bikes then you would just not install the add-on or if you have the add-on installed and only need to carry two bikes you can remove this by taking out the lynch pin. There is a cap to plug into the end of the two bike rack when not being used...

  • 4- and 5-Bike Hitch Rack Options for Chevrolet Suburban
Four or five full-suspension bikes will have a substantial total weight so a hitch-mounted bike carrier is really your only option. There are no trunk/hatch-mount bike carriers in a 5-bike capacity. The hitch on your Suburban could be either a 2-inch or a 2-1/2-inch size. There are no bike racks made for 2-1/2-inch hitches but it is easy to use a 2-inch rack even in a 2-1/2-inch hitch simply by installing a reducer sleeve such as # 58102. This slips into the larger hitch and drops its...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation that Can Safely be Used at the Back of a 5th Wheel Trailer
There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use at the back of a trailer. None of the Thule bike racks are rated for this application because they are not designed to withstand the additional stress associated with the bumpy ride at the back of a trailer. I have included a link to the bike racks that are rated for use at the back of a trailer. If your trailer bumper is 4 inches square, steel, and welded the entire length of the bumper then you can use # S80600 which you can...

  • Can Cargo Carrier Be Installed on Thule 4-Bike Platform Rack TH9044-TH9046
The Thule T2 # TH9044-TH9046 isn't designed, intended or recommended for use with a cargo carrying tray. Due to the size of the square tubing, the shank of the carrier wouldn't fit in the bike rack. A bike rack set-up like the Hollywood Racks # HR1400Z-85 IS an excellent idea, but it only carries two bikes and if you take a close look at the specifications, when used with the bike rack the cargo tray will be limited to a 90 lb weight capacity (which isn't much). This is because the cargo...
