Review from a similar T2 Pro XTR in Hitch Bike Racks

Your personal service provided me was excellent. The main problem is with the installation instructions provided by Thule that are very poor. It simply does not go into the needed detail for an accurate and complete install. Also, when you have a fat tire there is no mention on what you need to do with the straps to expand the length needed. Most people would think that this product does not work, but it does if you know what the fix is to lengthen the straps. The bottom line for me was to follow a [online] video that recognizes the confusion from the "manual" and then takes you through the clear steps to make it all work. Greg, when you have a chance, refer to "Thule T2 Pro XT and XTR Hitch Mount Bike Rack Assembly Tips" and see the comments and instructions presented. Thule most likely knows about this but they need to be reminded so further improvements can be made for their written instructions. Again Greg, your service was outstanding. The written instructions are out of your control.

  • What Rack Can Be Used With Bikes with a Front Fender?
This is not something we typically recommend due to the risk of damage to the bike, but if you have the Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH23JV, the rack will sometimes fit for bikes with small fenders. I recommend fitting the ratchets under the fender if they fit. The guaranteed safe way to not damage your fenders is the Thule DoubleTrack Pro XT Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH92BJ because the ratcheting hooks attach at the bike frame. You can also add key lock cylinders # TH450200...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for 2 e-Bikes on 25 Foot Motorhome
The Thule T2 Pro XTS, part # TH9035XTR which we refer to as our part number of # TH23JV is compatible for use in a 1-1/4 inch hitch on a motorhome like your Leisure Travel Van 25foot Mercedes 3500. The rack can carry 2 e-bikes weighing up to 50 lbs apiece with tires up to 5 inches in width. If you have a 2 inch receiver, you'd want to use a different rack. I'd recommend the Hollywood Racks RV Rider, part # HLY64FR. The RV rider can carry two bikes weighing up to 80 lbs per bike with...

  • Is Thule T2 Pro XTR 2-Bike Rack for 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Secure in Hitch Receiver
The Thule T2 Pro XTR 2-Bike Rack # TH23JV will absolutely be secure in your vehicle's 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver. The Auto Pin will automatically latch on when you put the rack on, and like you mentioned, all you have to do is twist the knob, which is going to ensure the shank remains tight inside the receiver. This system, called an Auto Attach system, replaces a traditional anti-rattle hitch pin, and the fact it is both easier to use, and just as steady as a rack with one of...

  • What Replacement Part do I Need for My Thule T2 Pro XTR #TH23JV?
I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, my contact at Thule confirmed that the wedge piece you need is not available on its own. In order to get the wedge piece for your Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH23JV, you will need to replace the backbone. The part you need is the Replacement 1-1/4" Hitch and Backbone Assembly for Thule T2 Classic 2-Bike Platform Rack # 753370902

  • Availability of 2 Bike Add-on for Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch
The Thule T2 Pro that fits the 1-1/4 inch hitch receiver, like part # TH23JV, was not built to accommodate the 2 bike add-on so you will need to make sure that you have a 2 inch hitch receiver on your vehicle. You can then purchase the T2 Pro XTR for 2 inch hitches as part # TH83JV, and then the add-ons later with part # TH9036XT. In order to use the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH83JV (which has a 2" shank) with a 1-1/4" receiver tube you will indeed need an adapter, the Brophy Hitch Adapter part # HT5R or part # HTAD. The adapter with rise will be needed for smaller vehicles with less ground clearance whereas the straight adapter can be used for larger trucks and suvs. That said, the use of a hitch adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50% so you will need to keep...

  • How to Use Thule T2 Pro XT Bike Rack for 2 Receivers with 1-1/4 Receiver
In order to use your Thule T2 Pro XT Bike Rack # TH83JV with the 1-1/4" receiver on your new Subaru Outback I recommend the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HTAD. This will provide you with the needed 2" receiver and you can use the Anti-Rattle Hitch Receiver Lock # 63232 to secure it to your vehicle and reduce rattle/movement at the connection. Please just keep in mind that using an adapter like this decreases the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50 percent. Just be sure that...

  • Can Saris SA805BL Bones Trunk Mount Bike Rack Carry 45lb e-Bike on 2021 Hyundai Kona
According to Saris, their # SA805BL Bones 2-bike trunk mount rack can accommodate 2 bikes weighing up to 35 lbs each. Even though the total weight of the two bikes you're wanting to carry won't exceed the capacity of the rack, having a bike weighing 45 lbs would place stresses on the rack that it wasn't engineered to withstand and could cause the rack to fail. The same would hold true for the # SA803 as well. An alternative option would be to install a Class I hitch like the Draw-Tite...

These replace the older 2" Thule T2 versions TH9034 and TH9034XT (2") and older 1-1/4" versions TH9035 and TH9035XT. The only 1-1/4" to 2" adapter that will work with the Class 1 Curt Trailer Hitch # C11000 that fits your 2012 VW Golf is the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HTAD. It is important to note that a hitch adapter will reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50 percent, which means the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of the Curt Hitch # C11000 becomes 100 lbs when using an adapter. • Can the 2 Inch Shank On the Thule T2 Pro XTR Be Replaced with a 1-1/4 Inch Shank
I do have an option for you but the shank on your Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH83JV is not serviceable meaning you cannot switch it out for the 1-1/4" version. There is a dedicated version of the T2 Pro XTR for 1-1/4" hitches, part # TH23JV. The only other option I have for you to use this bike rack with a 1-1/4" trailer hitch receiver is to use a hitch expander like part # MT70032. However, the adapter will reduce your hitch's weight capacity by 50 percent.

The XTR is rated for use with a Class I hitch, and is one of the premier racks in the industry because of how easy it is to use, its durability, and its optimal bike spacing to keep your bikes protected. It even has included hitch and cable locks to help protect the investments you made in the rack and your bikes.

The Thule T2 bike rack is an excellent rack but there really isn't a great way to use it in different hitch sizes since Thule makes a dedicated 2 inch version # TH83JV and a 1-1/4 inch version # TH23JV as well. Hitch adapters are kind of a mess too since they add quite a bit of movement and can sometimes cut hitch capacity. For your Thule T2 Pro XT # TH23JV with 1.25 inch shank, the anti-rattle adapter should be tightened when installing while wiggling and moving the rack shank simultaneously. The movement while installing removes some of the slack that may naturally be there providing more stability when the bikes are loaded. If you still want additional stability, I recommend using the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches # RM-061-125 which is a mechanical assist so it will require a wrench.

Folding bikes typically have pretty small wheels and also frames that have lower crosstubes so for a bike rack I recommend a platform rack that attaches by the grabbing the tire like the Thule T2 Pro XTR part # TH83JV for a 2 inch hitch or part # TH23JV for a 1-1/4 inch hitch. This will give you the securest, easiest to use, and overall best bike rack solution for your folding bikes.
