Video Transcript for Swagman Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, we're going to be test fitting the Swagman E-Bike Two Bike Platform Rack. It's going to be part number S64689. As you can see, we already have a bike installed, so let's take a look at some of the features. Something unique about this bike rack, like I said in the name, it's designed to be able to carry up to two E-Bikes weighing up to 70 pounds each, so it's a lot more durable for your heavier bikes. If we come in closer, starting from the outside and going in, we have a cradle for the front, and the rear tires. These cradles do not pivot back and forth, they're stationary in that aspect, but if you loosen this knob right here, you can slide it back and forth to accommodate any type of length that your bike might have and then you simply tighten it back up, and it's ready to go. Our bike is secured at three different points of contact.

We have a strap right here that comes in with the cradle, so once you get your tire in you just simply pull this strap through the spokes of the wheel, and you just secure it down like that. We also have one on the front wheel. You'll notice this little spacer right here that sits between the strap and the frame of the bike, it's going to help protect it from any damage during travel. Our third point of contact is going to be up here, We have this rubber coated bike frame. It is rubber coated, so it's going to protect your bike from any kind of damage during travel. And for any other cases you might need to purchase a bike adapter bar for any alternate bike frames you might have or even kids bikes. Now that we've seen some of those features we can go ahead and remove the bike.

I'm going to start down here with the rear wheel. Simply push up on this black tab right here, that's going to release the strap and we can just flip it back that way. We'll do the same thing to the front, push the tab, start pushing, release. Now when you come up to this frame hook, you want to make sure you have a good grip of the bike itself as when you release it you have a good grip and you're not going to let it hit your vehicle, and when you want to secure the bike you simply just push down on it and it ratchets, just like that.I'm going to go ahead and take the hook off. That's another neat feature about it.

That's going to help me with the hassle free unloading. Now we're ready to take our bike off. When you're done unloading, just remember if you do take the hook off you want to put it right back on so you don't loose it. Now I want to make a couple measurements for you guys. From the back of our bumper to the outermost part of our bike rack we're putting on about 24" of space from the back of our vehicle.

As far as ground clearance. From the ground all the way up to the back of our bike rack is about 26" of ground clearance. If we come in here, from the back of our bumper to the innermost part of the bike rack we have about 6 1/2" of space. Now though this bike rack can not tilt back to allow any hatch access when a bike is on there, you can access the hatch when the bike is off. You simply pull up on this black tab and this arm holding our hooks can fold down. Now any type of hatch access is available. Like I said, you can't do this if your bikes are installed. Now though the bike rack can not tilt back when a bike is installed it can tilt up in order to compact the space a little bit more. Simply how you do this is pull the clip out, now we're going to pull this pin out. Now all we're going to do is grab the back of the bike rack and simply fold it up as so. When we do that, we're ready to put our pin back in place and once we do that, now that we've done that we've eliminated some space from the back of our bike rack. I can show you just about how much space now how much space there is from the back of our bumper to the outermost part of our bike rack is about 15". That's a considerable amount of space we've saved by folding it up and that's going to help out for any type of close parking encounters you might have whether it's in your garage or if your out and about in the town.If we come down here, we look at how our bike rack is installed in our hitch. We have an anti-rattle bolt that goes through the bike rack and through our hitch receiver to secure our bike rack firmly to the hitch not allowing it to move at all during travel. It also comes with a lock to put on the other end of the rattle bolt in order to prevent any theft from occurring from your bike rack. And that will do it for our test fit of the Swagman E-Bike Two Bike Platform Rack on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse.

Love our new ebike carrier! Works perfect placed on our 5th wheel hitch. It's secure, solid and handles a 58lb and 48lb ebike beautifully. We're grateful the bikes don't bounce around when we're on the road like many we've seen, and fold up when at camp/RV sites. Yay Swagman, great design! 721753

Went together smoothly. Have not used yet but our juiced scramblers fit perfectly. Only reason 4 stars is having to pay an extra $100 for the fat tire chocks and no use for the included small chocks. 696209

Received the bike rack today 06/28/19. Found it easy to assemble, but putting it on the receiver I found the receiver lock bolt was an odd size 7/8th to small and 15/16th to big. If your supply and of size bolt, please supply a wrench that works! 664272

Nice firm rack. I have another different brand that is very wobbly. The pin, with lock, was too long for my truck. The trailer plug was too close to the receiver. The second shorter pin worked but didn’t fit the lock. A very easy machining on a lathe fixed that. This is the best rack I’ve ever owned and I’ve had a few. 652563

The swagman ebike carrier is as described. It’s a heavy duty carrier that will carry 2 ebikes behind my fifth wheel. I’ve only assembled it and installed my ebikes to make sure everything works for my 2 Surface604 bikes. I especially like the heavy construction and locking pin and slides. The locking pin screws into the receiver so there is no movement. They also supply heavy duty fasteners and a bolt to replace the pin to make it even more rigid. The bolt does eliminate the ability to fold the platform, but I prefer the rigidity that it provides. It’s early, but I like it so far. 641689

etrailer customer service and representative were excellent. Very informative and helpful during the ordering of this unit via phone. Bike rack arrived on time as indicated and was packaged very well with no damage or missing parts. Installation instructions were thorough and the installation process went smooth with no issues. However, would recommend making one modification to the installation instructions. In step 4 - installation of the ratcheting upright arm, I would suggest installing it opposite of what the instructions say. The instructions indicated to install the upright arm so that it folds to the left when looking at the back of the vehicle. The problem with this installation alignment is that the locks on the hooks are positioned facing toward the vehicle making it difficult to lock & unlock the hooks. Also attaching the upright arm in accordance with the instructions requires the longer hook to be slide on the arm 1st and the short one second. This alignment makes it difficult for loading and unloading bikes. By installing the ratcheting upright arm so that it folds to the left resolves these issues providing the advantages of: 1. Hook lock face away from the vehicle making it easier to lock and unlock the hooks. 2. The long hook which goes on the arm 1st is not closest to the vehicle allowing the bike closes to the vehicle to be loaded 1st and the bike on the outside loaded 2nd. Unloading is also easier allowing the bike on the out side to be unloaded 1st and then the bike closest to the vehicle unloaded 2nd. Bike rack seems very sturdy and rugged but have not had the opportunity yet to use it. Will report back with pictures once it is used. Plan to use the bike rack on the back of a SUV, Truck, and Fifth Wheel to carry an E-Bike and regular bike. 616948

Love my new bike carrier! Quality materials and easy assembly. It's awkward trying to secure a step-through frame. I prefer nyloc nuts over lock washers but that's an easy fix. Now I'm looking for a cover to protect the bikes from the weather. 511739

The rack was very easy to assemble. Installing the bike was a breeze. I live on the north end of the Long Beach Peninsula in Washington State. Today, I am taking my Pedego Interceptor down to the Discovery Trail starting in Cape Disappointment Park. The trail is about a 19 mile round trip from the Lighthouse, thru the dunes up to the point where Lewis and Clark first saw the Pacific Ocean. Pics from my last ride on the trail are also attached. Riding around my neighborhood is OK, but now I have access to several National and State Parks along the coast of Washington and Oregon. Opening up a whole new world to me as my official retirement will begin on June 30. Love my new Swagman E-Spec bike rack. Tony 510229

I am very satisfied with this bike rack. Our first trip was over 500 miles and it performed flawlessly. The reason for 4 and not five stars is that I tried to reverse the hooks 180' but the rumber protection was hitting the rachet. I will figure something out. I have a Rad Mini and a converted mountain bike and it handled the weight with no problem. p.s. Always remove your batteries for transporting. 562071
