Swagman Hitch Bike Racks - S63381

The Trailhead lets you carry up to 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle. It has dual arms that fold down for storage, rotating anti-sway cradles with rubber straps, and an integrated reflector on each tip. Can be used with motorhomes and RV's.

Features:

  • Non-tilting, hitch-mounted rack carries up to 4 bicycles
  • Can be used with motorhomes and RVs
  • Dual-arm design provides maximum bike stability
  • Includes an integrated reflector at the end of each arm
  • Anti-sway cradles secure bikes to the rack at 3 points using durable rubber straps
    • Rotate left to right and adjust front to back
    • Accommodate many types of alternative and women's frames
    • Reduce the need for a bike adapter bar
    • Prevent bike-to-bike contact during transport - deter scratches on paint finish
  • Anti-rattle, threaded pin and clip secure the rack to the trailer hitch
    • Eliminates rattle in the hitch receiver
    • Replace with Swagman's anti-rattle lock (S64027; sold separately) to lock bike carrier to your vehicle

Specs:

  • Carrying capacity: 4 bikes
  • Weight capacity: 35 lbs per bike
  • Application: 2" x 2" trailer hitch receivers
  • Distance between the 2 rack arms (outside to outside): 11-1/2"
  • Cradle width: 1-1/4"
  • Distance from upright bar to end of rack arms: 26"
  • Distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright bar: 9-1/2"
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, RVs, motorhomes, and towable campers

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Swagman Trailhead 2-Bike Carrier

The Swagman Trailhead hitch-mounted bike rack carries four bikes on dual arms that provide superior stability during transport. The dual arms easily fold down for storage - just pull a pin - and each arm features an integrated reflector at its tip.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Swagman Trailhead Anti-Sway Cradles

The Trailhead has anti-sway cradles that rotate and slide along the dual arms to perfectly position your bicycles, reducing the need for a bike adapter bar. The cradles include durable rubber straps to hold your bikes firmly in place on the rack. Because the cradles secure each bike at three places (twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or down tube), rocking back and forth is virtually eliminated, preventing bike-to-bike contact.

Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin

Swagman Trailhead Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin

The Trailhead comes with an anti-rattle, threaded hitch pin and clip to secure the rack to your trailer hitch and eliminate rattle during transport. To lock your rack to the hitch, replace the pin and clip with Swagman's anti-rattle lock (S64029 - sold separately).

Video Transcript for Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Swagman Trailhead 4 bike rack, for 2 inch hitches, part number S63381. The Swagman Trailhead bike rack is a non-tilting bike rack, and because it's non-tilting it's more rigid and ideal for motor homes and RVs. It's going to fit any 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube on a motor home, camper, or RV. It's also great for cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs that have a 2 inch receiver. It's going to work with a wide variety of bikes, we've got a mountain bike, 2 road bikes, and an ultimate frame style bike, it's also going to work out great for women's and children's bikes as well. We've gone ahead and removed the bikes so we can get a closer look. The dual arms are going to provide excellent support for our 4 bikes.

Our anti sway cradles help prevent bike sway, bike to bike contact, and bike to vehicle contact. Each of the cradles are adjustable along the dual arms, allowing us to space our bikes out as needed. The adjustable straps are constructed of a soft rubber and they're going to help secure our bikes in place, without causing any harm to our bike's finish. The dual arms fold down when not in use, this would be ideal for pulling your garage over night, or pulling in a close quarter parking spot. Simply fold it down and reinsert the pin and you've got it. Down here at the base, 5 bolts are going to help with that sturdy, rigid construction, so you know that all 4 of your bikes are safe on the back of your RV going down the road.

It also includes an anti rattle bolt and a clip, which is going to help reduce some of the rattle and the movement within your hitch and your bike rack. It has a weight capacity of 35 pounds per bike, it's made out of a sturdy, steel construction with a nice flat powder coat finish, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion, and it offers a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over the features, I'm going to go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing we'll do, is we'll stick the shank into the receiver tube. Then, we'll line up our pinholes. Once we get the pinholes lined up, we'll take our included anti rattle bolt and clip and thread that through here on the driver's side.

Once we've got that hand tightened, we'll take our socket wrench and tighten that down. Now, if you don't have a socket wrench, that's okay, you can pick one up here at etrailer.com, part number PT20104-38528. That's going to come with the seven eighths socket as well. Once we get it tightened, we can take our clip and put it on the other side, and then we've got it. Now, to get ready to load up our bikes, we'll go ahead and raise up the dual arms. The way you do that is you come to this pin on top, go ahead and remove the clip and pull the pin out, rotate the arms up until the holes are realigned.

Then, we'll just reinsert that pin and clip, and we've got it. Now we can undo our straps and then grab a bike. Now, remember our cradles can be adjusted. We want to make sure the one that's receiving our top 2 is leveled out flat, like so, and the one that's receiving our down 2, is angled like this. Now when loading up your bikes, it's recommended that you put the heaviest bike on first, so we'll just come up and work our way back, we'll set it in position. Now we can tighten our straps. Bring a strap around our down tube, just like that, and then over the top. Now, it's a good idea to alternate the direction of your bikes, so I'm going to go ahead and set up the rest of my cradles. Now, I've gone ahead and loaded up the rest of the bikes. Some bikes, such as women's, children's, and bikes with alternative frame styles, may require you to use a bike adapter bar. Swagman makes one, at part number 64005. Now with everything all loaded up, let's go head and take it out on our test course and see what it looks like in action. Here at our test course, let's first go onto our slalom, this is going to show side to side action such as going around corners or evasive maneuver. Then, onto our alternating speed bumps, this is going to show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Then, finally, onto our solid speed bumps, this is going to show an up and down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or level parking lot. That's going to complete our look at the Swagman Trailhead bike rack 4 for 2 inch hitches, part number S63381.

My wife and I have been more than pleased with the bicycle rack purchases to be used primarily on the back of our 5th wheel. We have traveled from Kansas to Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, without a speck of trouble, and have used it on the rear of my truck when traveling shorter distances from the campsite to get to trailheads. The fold down function is especially handy and prevents inadvertent head knockers when the trailer is at camp and the bicycles are not attached. The tie down straps are sturdy, and I would recommend this product to others. 247994

Sturdy. Reason I didn't give it a 5 is because my Trek 8.1 male hybrid isn't a step through, but doesn't have a bar running parallel to the ground either... somewhere in between. Makes the bike a bit of a struggle to load past the rubber keepers. All my other bikes work great. Ok... so I copy and pasted the photo from Trek's site. But it illustrates my issue. 193879

Ive only used it twice in the past year. My Trek Hybrid doesnt fit well on it. My Giant road bike fits well.

I received my bike rack just in time for our camping trip this weekend. It was exactly what I was looking for. Easy to get the bikes on and off. For womens bike frames, the adapter is a must. 186371

After 3 trips (1,200 miles) have found this product to work well on our trailer. Pin on fold down top rack is an extremely tight fit which is great. Torqued the threaded hitch bolt and everything is still tight and no wiggle. I did remove the 4th bike holder so I have more space for our three bikes.... road bike, women’s 26” and girls 24”. Rick solid product. Arrived day 2 after order. 555966

I received the product in excellent condition. I have used it once and have mixed reviews. The bike cradles are not as good as those on my Yakima but I believe that they will work fine. The bike does rock more than I expected. The assembly was straight forward but concerning. The main bolts in the base called for a 45 foot-pound torque spec. There were two bolts that needed to be installed. These torqued out very well. However the next sentence in the instructions were to ensure that all of the bolts were "tight". Given that the bolts were all the same size I assumed the 45 foot-pounds was also the target. The vertical tube is slightly buckled as it started to crush well before I hit 45 foot-pounds. 260796

Great bike rack for a RV. No rattle or sway at all. Four bikes fit very easy and secure. Easy to install and arrived very quickly. Best bike rack I have purchased. 375900

We use this bike rack extensively on the rear of our travel trailer. We carried 3-4 bikes for about 5,000 miles over 23 days without a single issue. The bike rack couldn't have performed better. I have a rear mounted camera that stays on while I drive down the road so I could actually see the bikes and rack to make sure they remained stable...and they did, even over some bumpy roads. NOTE: trailer bumpers are not designed to hold anything other than a sewer hose. Visit a local welder to beef up your chassis and bumper before just simply adding a receiver hitch. You need to have a professional welder do this; pay the money...it will be worth it. Had a friend who's bike rack failed because the receiver wasn't properly mounted. 579479

Comments

The strength of the rear bumper will typically depend on the metal its constructed of and how the bumper is welded. Typically a continuously welded steel bumper is pretty strong.

I ordered the Swagman 4-bike rack for 2" hitches. The sales person on the telephone was very courteous, and recorded my order and credit card information in a very friendly and efficient manner. And, as she stated, it was delivered very soon thereafter. I have already used this rack, and find it to be high quality, well built, strong, and suitable for my needs. I am very pleased with this etrailer.com experience, and will be a return customer in the future. 89536

Great bike rack. I used it on the back of a rented Cruise America RV and drove over 1200 miles round trip including onto the Playa at Burning Man. We had 3 bikes one of which was a heavy electric bike and the rack worked perfectly. I did need to use a bar for the 2 girls bikes. One might have worked without it but it was borderline and I had purchased the bars just in case. Great 4 bike rack for use on a RV (especially when the receiver is 2-3" under the bumper as most Cruise Am RVs are.) 98308

Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike rack on 2015 Nissan Xterra. Solidly built, easy to install and carry two mountain bikes. Stable at 75 mph and over bumps. An excellent value. 383872

The bike rack is very solid and easy to install. Weve enjoyed using it over a year. We just purchased a womans mountain bike for my wife and with the more sloped center bar, its a challenge to mount the bike. Others may also find this a problem.

Thanks for the follow up. For alternative and bikes that do not have a standard horizontal crossbar we recommend using an adapter bar like # 64005
Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes
$25.95
. This will allow you to mount the bike in a more level position in your bike rack.

I bought this bike rack because it was the only one I could find that was rated for the back of a camper. I wanted a 2-bike rack, but this company only made a a4-bike rack, so my son very obligingly cut it down to a 2-bike size with pipe cutters. Kids are handy..... So I’ve owned this bike rack for a year. I travel for three months in winter with my Scamp camper and the rack held up perfectly!! Superior product for sure. Dealing with Etrailer has been pleasant and professional. This year I ordered a bike cover from them. There was a short delay with the order and I received a call from the saleswoman about this matter just letting me know the expected delivery date and was that going to be a problem for me. It wasn’t, but i sure appreciated the call. Am I happy with products and service? You bet!!! Great company. Thanks, Etrailer!! 587701

Works very good. I've used it many times on short trips and a few long trips over 150 miles.I was most impressed that when I first ordered the rack for my camper, I was told after it had arrived that the original rack would not work as intended and could fail under the right conditions. After reviewing other racks online I called customer service and was told the correct rack to buy and if I paid to send the original one back etrailer would send the right one to me with free shipping. That's what I call great customer service, Thanks again. 252548

I looked around for a long time for a sturdy bike rack to put on the back of my motorhome, because I already had 1 bike come loose from a popular brand name rack while only on my car. The Swagman 4 bike, 2" rack is very sturdy. The bolt really tightens it to the hitch. Although I wish it tilted down to be able to get into the diesel engine compartment to check fluids while the bikes are on. But I would rather have the security than the convenience. The double straps on each cradle are secure. Being able to rotate the cradles allow accommodation of a bunch of frame styles. I bought the 4 bike rack to hold 3 bikes - 2 for me, 1 for the wife - so I removed the 4th cradle. That gives a lot of room. I'm not sure how you could put 4 bikes on the rack unless they were perhaps all road bikes. I haven't actually been out on the road with it yet. 373370

This product was recommended by etrailer for the back of a travel trailer for its stability. It attaches securely to the rear bumper and attaches to the hitch with a locking bolt. It is extremely stable and transfers easily to the back of my Jeep. Customer Service was excellent when I had some questions. They recommended I purchase the model that does not fold down side the travel trailer bounces so much. I traveled for 3 months with bikes in tow with no problems. 371164

Bike rack worked out very well. I had to buy a couple of additional hanging bars to compensate for a beach cruiser type bike to hang correctly. Bike rack was assembled very well, it also has a non-rattle hitch pin which screws into the bike rack through the hitch. The straps and holding bumpers are also well built. The holding bumpers rotate into 3 different positions to account for different frame types. 273062

Review from a similar Swagman Trailhead in Hitch Bike Racks

I am happy I purchased the Swagmann 3 bike hitch bike rack last year. It's everything I hoped it would be. The straps are beefy and easy to lock the bike into. Thhe rack doesn't shake much after it is in the hitch. I can take the bike rack out and put it into the hitch very quickly. I went on a trip recently and had two mountain bikes on it and it was no problem. My only complaint is it is hard to put the pin through the rack when I want to lower or raise the horizontal bar that carries the bikes. The rack isnt too close or too far from the car. I have a Toyota Rav4. Otherwise, very good purchase. Would recommend. 291363

Folds up nicely It Tilts out of the way when opening rear door Bike attachment system is secure and easy to use It is very stout and seems to be well made Assembly is a breeze Negatives: Bicycle carrier ares are a little short for carrying 3 bikes Description of product should have said something like "Stabilizer Straps necessary for use on Class I hitch" 137664

Review the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting - S63360 The two bike Swagman Bike Rack was fairly easy to set up and install in the 2" hitch on my 4Runner. The directions are NOT well written, but it is so easy to do that poor directions don't matter. The rack seems quite sturdy and my bike and my wife's "semi-womens design" bike fit on the rack at the same time. Since it is still winter in Maine I won't be driving anywhere with the bikes anytime soon. 356519

DOES NOT FIT BOYS BMX BIKES!! Purchased to carry 3 children's bikes (2 20"bmx boys bikes and a 16" girls bikes) Look and feel solid but does not fit 20" bikes and smaller (maybe mountain bikes but not bmx bikes).. will only fit men's bikes. Going to remove the holder and just strap to the arms.. 566506

Some bicycles, like womens bikes or bikes with a short top tube can be hard to fit, which is why frame adapter bars like # 64005
Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes
$25.95
are available. A frame adapter bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, adding an extra few inches of width for the bike to attach to the rack.

After we sold our SUV our Thule bike rack with a 2 x 2 tongue was no good for the receiver on our new Subaru Outback. I was able to sell the used Thule for the same price of the new Swagman bike rack. The Swagman works just as well as the Thule so I am very happy with the purchase. Thanks for asking.

Review from a similar Swagman Trailhead in Hitch Bike Racks

I chose this rack based on the reviews, and it lives up to the hype. Very solid construction, and a very solid fit in the receiver. After installing it, I attached my bike and drove it around a bit just to get a sense of how solid it was. After many years of a trunk mounted rack, this rack is rock solid by comparison. And I can easily open and access the trunk even with my bike in place. I'm not only pleased with the rack and the hitch I purchased, but also EXTREMELY impressed with the great people at etrailer.com. I sent a question that was answered quickly, and they kept me informed of my order and its status every step of the way. Thank you so much!! 49884

I received the Trailhead 4 rack in perfect condition and in a wonderfully short amount of time. This rack is solid and steady, and well worth the price compared to other big names. All of the components are of high quality and are sure to last a long time. Just to be covered further down the road, I plan to purchase spare cradles, straps, and hitch pins to have when I need them. Hi there, I ended up selling it after a few months because I couldn't get the rubber part over my bike which is thicker than most at the join of the triangle. I rigged it for a while but ultimately it was too much of a pain. Also, I didn't like how it folded down when I wanted to put groceries in the back of my Honda Fit. It also seemed to wobble more than I felt comfy with when not holding bikes, though I don't think that was a flaw of any kind. Thanks though. They seem like good sturdy racks. 461846

I did sell it in the end because of that pesky rubber part but the guy who bought it off me seemed to be fine with it. I ended up buying a Thule on sale at REI because it was sooooo much easier to fold away and to lift bikes onto. But thanks your rack was fine for the right bike!

Review from a similar Swagman Trailhead in Hitch Bike Racks

Came Just in time to pick up my bicycle from the cycle shop. Now, is it any good? I think it is the best value on the market, I always check E-trailer after I have done my searching for a product. Then ETrailer usually beats them out with great products and fast shipping too. This bike rack is loaded with features and does a great job. 522264

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Recommended RV Rated Bike Rack to Carry 4 Bikes
  • You're correct we have 6 options of RV rated 4-bike racks that I've linked on this page. The most popular is the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This is, of course, in part due to cost but it's also a Swagman who has done very well with bike racks for RV's. A lot of bike rack manufacturers haven't put much emphasis on the RV market where Swagman has done a great job. It is more of a basic model (No locks like you mentioned) but is great quality. The Cadillac in the lineup right now...

  • Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 4-Bikes on the Back of a Travel Trailer Using Curt Bumper Hitch E-100
  • There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use on the back of an RV or trailer but the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is not one of them so I cannot recommend it. But there are several 4-bike racks that are rated for this application. You can use the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This rack is most like the Thule. It features a 2-arm design and anti-sway cradles. It is a sturdy build to handle the riggers of being at the back of a trailer. Other racks that are rated for this...

  • Recommended Bike Racks for Use on Class C Winnebago View RV
  • RV-rated bike racks are made to withstand the extra stresses found at the rear of longer vehicles like a Class C Winnie View. Such RV bike carriers do not include a folding design since this would introduce a weak point, but some like the Swagman Trailhead # S63381 and the Yakima Road Trip # Y02477 do have arms that fold. On the linked page, which displays all RV-rated bike racks we offer, you can view 2-bike carriers like the Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01311. This lightweight (12-lb)...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for 5th Wheel Use Rated RV Compatible
  • The Curt Premium 4 Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Tilting # C18064 is not rated for use on the back of a 5th wheel trailer. All bike racks that are RV rated can be used on the back of a passenger vehicle, but not all passenger vehicle bike racks can be used on an RV because of the additional movement and torque. For an RV compatible hitch mounted bike rack, I have linked all of your options. The most similar is probably the Swagman Trailhead 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Non-Folding #...

  • Recommendation for 4-Bike Racks for Use on a Jayco Jay Flight Trailer
  • As you probably know there are only certain bike racks that are rated for use at the back of an RV or trailer. I have included a link to the ones that carry 4 bikes for you. If the bumper is 4 inches square you can use the Swagman rack # S80600 which you can position around the spare tire if you want. I have linked a video review of this rack for you. If your Jayco trailer has a 2 inch trailer hitch at the back then I recommend the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This is a hanging style...

  • Bike Rack for Use Behind Fifth Wheel or Travel Trailer
  • There are bike racks available for the rear of a fifth wheel or travel trailer, though they must be rated for such by the manufacturer because it is a far rougher ride than the rear of a standard vehicle and could result in the rack and bikes being damaged. There are no 5-bike racks such as the Curt # C18065 that can be used behind a trailer, but a similar 4-bike rack I recommend is the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This hanging rack secures your bikes at three different points, ensuring...

  • 4 Bike Hanging Rack Recommendation for Rear of Camper Trailer
  • At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that type of use. The most similar 4 bike rack we have to the one you mentioned...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for RV with 4 x 4 Square Bumper
  • We currently have five bumper mounted 2" trailer hitch receivers that will work with the 4" x 4" bumper on your trailer. I have attached these options for you but I recommend using the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # E-100. This trailer hitch uses steel plates to surround the bumper as opposed to the u-bolts in the other options. The steel plates will provide more support and also look much better than the u-bolt options. If you also need a cargo basket for your generator...

  • Recommended 4-Bike Rack for a 2012 Coachmen Mirada
  • I have two great 4-bike rack options for your 2012 Coachmen Mirada. The best one for you will really depend on what type of bikes you have. If you have kid's or women's bikes then you will want to go with a platform style bike rack, I recommend the Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack part # S64665 because it has an anti-rattle hitch lock to help stabilize the bike rack and your bikes. It also comes with a cable lock for your bikes to prevent theft. If you are not using the bike rack you can fold it...

  • How Tall is the Swagman Trailhead Bike Rack # S63381
  • The Swagman Trailhead # S63381 is approximately 40 inches tall. Most bike racks when mounted to the front of a vehicle will obstruct the driver's view at least somewhat. For a similar but shorter rack you could use the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR which is approximately 34 inches tall. Keep in mind that it is also possible for the bikes to block the lights on your vehicle and restrict airflow to the motor.

  • The Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier for A-Frame Trailers - 2"-100 lbs # CC-275 can fit any widths between 12 inches and 52 inches. The bars rotate so they are compatible with any width between but that will move the receiver either slightly forward or slightly back from the frame mounts. • Towing a Trailer and Carrying Bikes at the Same Time with a 2012 Toyota RAV4
  • Yes, there are ways to carry bikes and tow a trailer at the same time. First we need to look at the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle. I checked the 2012 Toyota RAV4 owner's manual and for the V6 with tow package the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is 350 pounds. This is important because the combined weight of the trailer's tongue weight and the weight of the loaded bike rack cannot exceed 350 pounds. The weight of your 2004 Starcraft 2107 trailer is 1,758 pounds. That would...

None of our 5 bike racks though are rated for use behind a camper trailer though. • Why is Thule T2 Bike Rack not Rated for an RV?
  • The reason the Thule T2 # TH9044-TH9046 and other racks are not rated for use behind an RV is due to how rough the ride is compared to a car; the rack sits much further behind the axle which means a lot of movement. A potential solution for you is the Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01458, which is rated for use with an RV and holds your bikes by the wheels. A hanging rack like the Swagman Trailhead # S63381 may also work if you alternate the way in which you load the bikes. When using a hanging...

  • Why Can't the Folding Version of the Swagman Trailhead be Used at the Back of an RV
  • Yes, the folding feature is the difference that allows the non-folding version of the Trailhead, # S63381, to work with RVs and the folding version, # S63380, to be excluded. The folding feature creates a point of movement and a point of potential failure. There is one bike rack that folds and that is rated for use at the back of an RV; the Eclipse # 63124. I have included a link to a video review of this rack for you. The Titan # S63410 is not RV approved since it tilts.

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for Rear of Camper
  • I have a 4 bike rack I can recommend for the rear of your camper, but there are no traditional hitch mounted 4 bike platform bike racks available. Reason being that style of bike rack ends up being pretty long and heavy which when you combine that with the much rougher ride quality at the rear of a trailer it ends up putting quite a bit of strain on the hitch. There is the part # S80600 that attaches to the rear bumper of the RV as long as it's a 4 inch continuously welded bumper. The...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System For Trailer With 358 lb Loaded Tongue Weight
  • For your 2010 Ford Flex and your trailer with 358 lb tongue weight, I recommend you get a weight distribution system rated for up to 600 lbs. The reason for this is any cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle acts like tongue weight for your system and is added to your total tongue weight rating. This will give you adequate weight for your cargo as well as accommodate your trailer loaded tongue weight. For this system I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point...

  • Bike Rack Compatibility with Towable Camper Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • The Thule Hitching Post Pro - Folding Tilting 4 Bike Rack w Anti-Sway # TH934XTR has been tested by the manufacturer and approved for use on vehicles only. The additional movement on the back of a 5th wheel or travel trailer does impact the stability and function of a bike rack so this particular rack was not considered stable enough for that use. It doesn't have anything to do with the stability or strength of the hitch itself. Thule simply doesn't have any bike racks they recommend...

  • Recommended Swagman Bike Rack for Use on Trailer
  • The most important aspect of the Swagman Trailhead # S63381, Original 3-bike # S64152-2, and Original 4-Bike # S64400 is that they are all rated and approved for use on a trailer like what you have. Because of the extra bounce and stress that is put on a bike rack at the back of a trailer when compared the back of a standard passenger vehicle, only some racks are designed for this use and these all meet that requirement. Between these three option, I recommend going with the Swagman...

The 2 inch hitch receiver will work well to carry RV approved accessories. This hitch will fit trailers with frames from 47 inches - 71 inches wide. • Recommended Hitch and Bike Rack Options for Rear of Heartland Bighorn 3610RE 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Before attempting to install a hitch on the rear of a 5th wheel, I always recommend consulting the 5th wheel manufacturer to ensure that the rear structure of the 5th wheel is strong enough to handle the weight of a bike rack and the bikes it carries. I called Heartland, who confirmed that using a hitch on the rear of your 5th wheel is acceptable, but you should not under ANY circumstances use the hitch for towing. Although the capacity of the hitch might be greater, Heartland states that...
