Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, RVs, motorhomes, and towable campers

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Swagman Trailhead 2-Bike Carrier

The Swagman Trailhead hitch-mounted bike rack carries four bikes on dual arms that provide superior stability during transport. The dual arms easily fold down for storage - just pull a pin - and each arm features an integrated reflector at its tip.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Swagman Trailhead Anti-Sway Cradles

The Trailhead has anti-sway cradles that rotate and slide along the dual arms to perfectly position your bicycles, reducing the need for a bike adapter bar. The cradles include durable rubber straps to hold your bikes firmly in place on the rack. Because the cradles secure each bike at three places (twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or down tube), rocking back and forth is virtually eliminated, preventing bike-to-bike contact.

Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin

Swagman Trailhead Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin

The Trailhead comes with an anti-rattle, threaded hitch pin and clip to secure the rack to your trailer hitch and eliminate rattle during transport. To lock your rack to the hitch, replace the pin and clip with Swagman's anti-rattle lock (S64029 - sold separately).

Video Transcript for Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Swagman Trailhead 4 bike rack, for 2 inch hitches, part number S63381. The Swagman Trailhead bike rack is a non-tilting bike rack, and because it's non-tilting it's more rigid and ideal for motor homes and RVs. It's going to fit any 2 inch by 2 inch receiver tube on a motor home, camper, or RV. It's also great for cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs that have a 2 inch receiver. It's going to work with a wide variety of bikes, we've got a mountain bike, 2 road bikes, and an ultimate frame style bike, it's also going to work out great for women's and children's bikes as well. We've gone ahead and removed the bikes so we can get a closer look. The dual arms are going to provide excellent support for our 4 bikes.

Our anti sway cradles help prevent bike sway, bike to bike contact, and bike to vehicle contact. Each of the cradles are adjustable along the dual arms, allowing us to space our bikes out as needed. The adjustable straps are constructed of a soft rubber and they're going to help secure our bikes in place, without causing any harm to our bike's finish. The dual arms fold down when not in use, this would be ideal for pulling your garage over night, or pulling in a close quarter parking spot. Simply fold it down and reinsert the pin and you've got it. Down here at the base, 5 bolts are going to help with that sturdy, rigid construction, so you know that all 4 of your bikes are safe on the back of your RV going down the road.

It also includes an anti rattle bolt and a clip, which is going to help reduce some of the rattle and the movement within your hitch and your bike rack. It has a weight capacity of 35 pounds per bike, it's made out of a sturdy, steel construction with a nice flat powder coat finish, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion, and it offers a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gone over the features, I'm going to go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing we'll do, is we'll stick the shank into the receiver tube. Then, we'll line up our pinholes. Once we get the pinholes lined up, we'll take our included anti rattle bolt and clip and thread that through here on the driver's side.

Once we've got that hand tightened, we'll take our socket wrench and tighten that down. Now, if you don't have a socket wrench, that's okay, you can pick one up here at etrailer.com, part number PT20104-38528. That's going to come with the seven eighths socket as well. Once we get it tightened, we can take our clip and put it on the other side, and then we've got it. Now, to get ready to load up our bikes, we'll go ahead and raise up the dual arms. The way you do that is you come to this pin on top, go ahead and remove the clip and pull the pin out, rotate the arms up until the holes are realigned.

Then, we'll just reinsert that pin and clip, and we've got it. Now we can undo our straps and then grab a bike. Now, remember our cradles can be adjusted. We want to make sure the one that's receiving our top 2 is leveled out flat, like so, and the one that's receiving our down 2, is angled like this. Now when loading up your bikes, it's recommended that you put the heaviest bike on first, so we'll just come up and work our way back, we'll set it in position. Now we can tighten our straps. Bring a strap around our down tube, just like that, and then over the top. Now, it's a good idea to alternate the direction of your bikes, so I'm going to go ahead and set up the rest of my cradles. Now, I've gone ahead and loaded up the rest of the bikes. Some bikes, such as women's, children's, and bikes with alternative frame styles, may require you to use a bike adapter bar. Swagman makes one, at part number 64005. Now with everything all loaded up, let's go head and take it out on our test course and see what it looks like in action. Here at our test course, let's first go onto our slalom, this is going to show side to side action such as going around corners or evasive maneuver. Then, onto our alternating speed bumps, this is going to show a twisting action, such as going over potholes or uneven pavement. Then, finally, onto our solid speed bumps, this is going to show an up and down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or level parking lot. That's going to complete our look at the Swagman Trailhead bike rack 4 for 2 inch hitches, part number S63381.

Nothing extravagant about the product. It does what is purchased for: transporting a bike via bike frame. I had to get this for my fat bike did not fit on my bike rack platform. I saved money going with this and it does the job. It isn't as secure as some of the other options but to be fair those "security" options on products such as Thule aren't hard to bypass. If you want security use a cable and/or chain and anchor it to the tow-hitch through the frame. Speaking of security the loading pin is nothing more than a bolt that I tighten using a wrench. So the form of security in that sense is the thief not having a wrench or at least not the right wrench to do the job. So in the end it does what I need it to do. Nothing bad and nothing great about it, just right for the job. Like a meal that solves the issue of you being hungry, but isn't all that satisfying. 718542

My wife and I have been more than pleased with the bicycle rack purchases to be used primarily on the back of our 5th wheel. We have traveled from Kansas to Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, without a speck of trouble, and have used it on the rear of my truck when traveling shorter distances from the campsite to get to trailheads. The fold down function is especially handy and prevents inadvertent head knockers when the trailer is at camp and the bicycles are not attached. The tie down straps are sturdy, and I would recommend this product to others. 247994

Sturdy. Reason I didn't give it a 5 is because my Trek 8.1 male hybrid isn't a step through, but doesn't have a bar running parallel to the ground either... somewhere in between. Makes the bike a bit of a struggle to load past the rubber keepers. All my other bikes work great. Ok... so I copy and pasted the photo from Trek's site. But it illustrates my issue. 193879

Ive only used it twice in the past year. My Trek Hybrid doesnt fit well on it. My Giant road bike fits well.

Great bike rack. I used it on the back of a rented Cruise America RV and drove over 1200 miles round trip including onto the Playa at Burning Man. We had 3 bikes one of which was a heavy electric bike and the rack worked perfectly. I did need to use a bar for the 2 girls bikes. One might have worked without it but it was borderline and I had purchased the bars just in case. Great 4 bike rack for use on a RV (especially when the receiver is 2-3" under the bumper as most Cruise Am RVs are.) 98308

I received the product in excellent condition. I have used it once and have mixed reviews. The bike cradles are not as good as those on my Yakima but I believe that they will work fine. The bike does rock more than I expected. The assembly was straight forward but concerning. The main bolts in the base called for a 45 foot-pound torque spec. There were two bolts that needed to be installed. These torqued out very well. However the next sentence in the instructions were to ensure that all of the bolts were "tight". Given that the bolts were all the same size I assumed the 45 foot-pounds was also the target. The vertical tube is slightly buckled as it started to crush well before I hit 45 foot-pounds. 260796

Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike rack on 2015 Nissan Xterra. Solidly built, easy to install and carry two mountain bikes. Stable at 75 mph and over bumps. An excellent value. 383872

Comments
The bike rack is very solid and easy to install. Weve enjoyed using it over a year. We just purchased a womans mountain bike for my wife and with the more sloped center bar, its a challenge to mount the bike. Others may also find this a problem.

Thanks for the follow up. For alternative and bikes that do not have a standard horizontal crossbar we recommend using an adapter bar like # 64005
Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes
$27.95
. This will allow you to mount the bike in a more level position in your bike rack.

We love our new bike rack!!! And since I bought the wrong kind to start with from another web site, the technical info I received from etrailer was the key in picking out one that would work on the back of our camper. So far it's been flawless.... 683534

I bought this bike rack because it was the only one I could find that was rated for the back of a camper. I wanted a 2-bike rack, but this company only made a a4-bike rack, so my son very obligingly cut it down to a 2-bike size with pipe cutters. Kids are handy..... So I’ve owned this bike rack for a year. I travel for three months in winter with my Scamp camper and the rack held up perfectly!! Superior product for sure. Dealing with Etrailer has been pleasant and professional. This year I ordered a bike cover from them. There was a short delay with the order and I received a call from the saleswoman about this matter just letting me know the expected delivery date and was that going to be a problem for me. It wasn’t, but i sure appreciated the call. Am I happy with products and service? You bet!!! Great company. Thanks, Etrailer!! 587701

We use this bike rack extensively on the rear of our travel trailer. We carried 3-4 bikes for about 5,000 miles over 23 days without a single issue. The bike rack couldn't have performed better. I have a rear mounted camera that stays on while I drive down the road so I could actually see the bikes and rack to make sure they remained stable...and they did, even over some bumpy roads. NOTE: trailer bumpers are not designed to hold anything other than a sewer hose. Visit a local welder to beef up your chassis and bumper before just simply adding a receiver hitch. You need to have a professional welder do this; pay the money...it will be worth it. Had a friend who's bike rack failed because the receiver wasn't properly mounted. 579479

Comments
The strength of the rear bumper will typically depend on the metal its constructed of and how the bumper is welded. Typically a continuously welded steel bumper is pretty strong.

After 3 trips (1,200 miles) have found this product to work well on our trailer. Pin on fold down top rack is an extremely tight fit which is great. Torqued the threaded hitch bolt and everything is still tight and no wiggle. I did remove the 4th bike holder so I have more space for our three bikes.... road bike, women’s 26” and girls 24”. Rick solid product. Arrived day 2 after order. 555966

Great! The one exception is the locking, anti-rattle hitch pin. The head of the bolt is neither standard or metric. I have to put it on with a crescent wrench which works but not convenient. The videos state that either a 7/8 or 19mm socket will fit depending on which locking pin you purchase. 15/16 or 24mm is what actually fits the bolt. If a had a 23mm socket, it would probably be a better fit. Love the bike rack and the ability to lock it in place, just not happy that the bolt was not the size that was stated on the videos.

I wonder if you somehow received a different anti-rattle pin than what was supposed to be in the box. I just pulled this exact bike rack and checked the anti-rattle bolt to find that it fits a 7/8" socket.

I looked around for a long time for a sturdy bike rack to put on the back of my motorhome, because I already had 1 bike come loose from a popular brand name rack while only on my car. The Swagman 4 bike, 2" rack is very sturdy. The bolt really tightens it to the hitch. Although I wish it tilted down to be able to get into the diesel engine compartment to check fluids while the bikes are on. But I would rather have the security than the convenience. The double straps on each cradle are secure. Being able to rotate the cradles allow accommodation of a bunch of frame styles. I bought the 4 bike rack to hold 3 bikes - 2 for me, 1 for the wife - so I removed the 4th cradle. That gives a lot of room. I'm not sure how you could put 4 bikes on the rack unless they were perhaps all road bikes. I haven't actually been out on the road with it yet. 373370

  • Recommended RV Rated Bike Rack to Carry 4 Bikes
You're correct we have 6 options of RV rated 4-bike racks that I've linked on this page. The most popular is the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This is, of course, in part due to cost but it's also a Swagman who has done very well with bike racks for RV's. A lot of bike rack manufacturers haven't put much emphasis on the RV market where Swagman has done a great job. It is more of a basic model (No locks like you mentioned) but is great quality. I have a 4 bike rack I can recommend for the rear of your camper, but there are no traditional hitch mounted 4 bike platform bike racks available. • Why Can't the Folding Version of the Swagman Trailhead be Used at the Back of an RV
Yes, the folding feature is the difference that allows the non-folding version of the Trailhead, # S63381, to work with RVs and the folding version, # S63380, to be excluded. The folding feature creates a point of movement and a point of potential failure. There is one bike rack that folds and that is rated for use at the back of an RV; the Eclipse # 63124. I have included a link to a video review of this rack for you. The Titan # S63410 is not RV approved since it tilts.

Any cargo carrier or bike rack that will be used on the rear of a RV (trailer or motorhome) needs to be rated for that application since the stress forces found at the rear of a trailer or MH are much greater than at the back of a standard passenger car. A standard bike rack made for use on a car cannot be used on the back of a Class C motorhome; you need an RV-rated rack like your Swagman Trailhead # S63381. • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for Rear of Camper
Only certain bike racks are confirmed to fit with the rougher ride quality at the rear of campers, but the Swagman Trailhead 4 part # S63381 is one of them and it is a great rack overall so it would be your best option. I attached a review video for more info as well. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to...

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation that Can be Used at Rear of Travel Trailer that Comes with Locks
Swagman has the XP Bike Rack part # S64940 which is rated for use behind a travel trailer like you mentioned, can carry up to 4 bikes and has a lock for each individual bike. For a hitch lock you'd then want the part # S64029. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. • Can Swagman Trailhead Bike Rack Carry Womens Bikes
To use a womens bike with the Swagman Trailhead part # S63381 all you need is an adapter bar like part # UB01. This adapter attaches to the seat post and the steering stem of the bike to provide a horizontal attachment point so the bike can be carried level. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well. The Swagman hitch part # S64025 would be a perfect solution for you as it is designed to work with the bike rack you referenced and attach to 4 inch square bumpers.

  • Inexpensive Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 4 Bikes on a 2002 Dodge Durango
We have numerous 4-bike racks but for one that is neither large nor expensive I recommend looking at Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This is one of our most popular hanging racks becuase of the features, like anti-sway cradles and an anti-rattle hitch pin, without adding a lot to the price tag. I've linked a video for you to take a look at. Very small childrens bikes and bikes that have a step-through frame will need an adapter, # 64005. I have linked a video that shows how it works.

  • How to Use Bike Rack in 3 inch Trailer Hitch of 2017 Ford F-350
What you need is the Super Titan Adapter part # 38735 which fits your 3 inch hitch and gives you a 2 inch hitch for the bike rack to fit. This slides into your 3 inch hitch and then gives you a 2 inch hitch that sticks out a bit from the 3 inch hitch opening. This allows the bike hitch pin to work normally since essentially the rack is attaching to a 2 inch hitch like it is designed for.

  • RV-Rated 4-Bike Hitch Racks for Use on Motorhome
Hitch-mounted bike racks that are rated for use on a motorhome are built with the strength needed for the greater stress forces found at the rear of motorhomes and trailers. This extra stress results from the greater distance between the rear axle and hitch on such vehicles, as compared to that distance on a typical passenger car. That greater distance becomes greater leverage on the hitch. RV-rated racks with a 4-bike capacity are shown on the linked page. The Swagman Trailhead # S63381,...

  • Best 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for Use at the Back of an RV Travel Trailer
The highest capacity 4 bike rack we offer that has been confirmed as a fit for use on the back of an RV travel trailer that I would recommend is the Swagman Trailhead part # S63381. This is a great rack with a 140 lb capacity that has all of the features of the more expensive racks like anti-sway cradles and anti-rattle hitch pin. This rack will carry the bikes by attaching to the frames of the bikes. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top...

  • What is Weight of Swagman Trailhead Bike Rack
The Swagman Trailhead part # S63381 weighs 32 lbs. For an even lighter weight bike rack that can carry 3 bikes we have the Thule Helium part # TH9043PRO which only weighs 20 lbs. I attached review videos for both racks as well. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for Rear of RV
I have a solution for you, but you can't use the XTC4 at the rear of an RV. At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that...

  • Recommended Bike Racks for Use on Class C Winnebago View RV
RV-rated bike racks are made to withstand the extra stresses found at the rear of longer vehicles like a Class C Winnie View. Such RV bike carriers do not include a folding design since this would introduce a weak point, but some like the Swagman Trailhead # S63381 and the Yakima Road Trip # Y02477 do have arms that fold. On the linked page, which displays all RV-rated bike racks we offer, you can view 2-bike carriers like the Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01311. This lightweight (12-lb)...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for 5th Wheel Use Rated RV Compatible
The Curt Premium 4 Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Tilting # C18064 is not rated for use on the back of a 5th wheel trailer. All bike racks that are RV rated can be used on the back of a passenger vehicle, but not all passenger vehicle bike racks can be used on an RV because of the additional movement and torque. For an RV compatible hitch mounted bike rack, I have linked all of your options. The most similar is probably the Swagman Trailhead 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Non-Folding #...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for RV with 4 x 4 Square Bumper
We currently have five bumper mounted 2" trailer hitch receivers that will work with the 4" x 4" bumper on your trailer. I have attached these options for you but I recommend using the Curt RV Bumper 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # E-100. This trailer hitch uses steel plates to surround the bumper as opposed to the u-bolts in the other options. The steel plates will provide more support and also look much better than the u-bolt options. If you also need a cargo basket for your generator...

  • Bike Rack for Use Behind Fifth Wheel or Travel Trailer
There are bike racks available for the rear of a fifth wheel or travel trailer, though they must be rated for such by the manufacturer because it is a far rougher ride than the rear of a standard vehicle and could result in the rack and bikes being damaged. There are no 5-bike racks such as the Curt # C18065 that can be used behind a trailer, but a similar 4-bike rack I recommend is the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This hanging rack secures your bikes at three different points, ensuring...
