Question:

I am looking to add a bumper hitch or similar to a Viking Epic 2017ST year 2005 for a bike rack. I thought I had decided on a Curt Bumper Hitch 2x4inch but the comments said it was not suitable for the 2x4 C channel bumper on my camper. Do you have any recommendations for adding a 2inch hitch receiver for a bike rack on pop up campers? It does have a spare tire on the back that could be used to support something. I am looking to carry 4 bikes. Thanks.

For the 2x4 inch C channel bumper on your Viking Epic Trailer, the best option for installing a trailer hitch receiver to use with a bike rack is going to be a frame-mount option like the Curt Adjustable Width # 13703. This is because the C channel bumpers are simply not designed to support the weight of a bolt-on receiver like the Curt # C19101 along with the bike rack and loaded bikes.

The Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch can be either bolted or welded to the trailer frame and will fit frame widths of 22 to 72 inches. I have attached an installation video and the written instructions that you can look through.

Another option for transporting bikes with your trailer is the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk # CC-275. The Bike Bunk will actually mount on the A-frame of your trailer tongue to provide a 2 inch receiver for use with RV approved bike racks. I have attached a video demonstration so you can see exactly how this product works.

Then for a 4-Bike carrier that is approved for use on an RV or trailer, I recommend the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This carrier can hold up to 4 bikes at 35 pounds each and will work with 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. I have included a video review of this bike rack for you to check out.

When using a hanging-style bike rack, an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01 might also be needed if you are planning on carrying any children's, woman's or alternative frame bikes. This will provide a horizontal attachment point for level transport and increased ground clearance.
