Road Runner 5 Hitch Bike Rack

When it comes to transporting your bikes, the Road Runner bicycle rack speeds past the competition. It has all the standard features you'd expect from a hitch-mounted bike rack and includes plenty of extras that are sure to keep your bikes safe and secure. And unlike many other racks, the Road Runner doesn't require tools to install the anti-rattle device or additional bungees or straps to secure your bikes - it's all included and built in.

Anti-Wobble Handle

Road Runner Shank/Anti-Wobble Handle

An integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the carrier tightens the bike-rack shank to your hitch receiver to prevent the rack from rattling around inside the receiver. You don't need to pull out a wrench every time you install the rack on your hitch - just turn the easy-to-access handle to keep the rack from rattling. And you can tighten the thumbscrew on the back of the upright mast to help keep the mast from wobbling.

Dual Arms

Road Runner Arms

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Road Runner features dual arms that support your bikes and better accommodate women's, children's and alternative frames. (An adapter bar [HRBA-PRO - sold separately] may still be required.) The arms easily fold down when the rack is not in use - just unscrew the hand knob on each arm, lower the arms into the brackets, and tighten the knobs down.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Road Runner Cradles

Rubber anti-sway cradles with straps firmly grip your bike's frame at 3 points to keep it from swaying front to back. This helps to keep your bikes from hitting each other and your vehicle during transit. The cradles rotate and slide along the arms, so you can easily adjust them based on the type and number of bikes you're transporting.

Anti-Sway Bar

Road Runner Anti-Sway Bar

The Road Runner makes great strides to keep your bikes secure. An anti-sway bar folds out from the bottom of the upright mast to provide another tie-down point for the four bikes mounted outside of the mast. Four included straps secure your bikes to the anti-sway bar to prevent the wheels and the pedals from spinning, keep the front wheels straight, and minimize the up and down movement of your bikes - all of which will help prevent bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact. This is especially helpful on lengthy road trips when you may experience crosswinds. And you can use the integrated safety strap to help tie down the bike that's mounted inside of the upright mast and closest to your vehicle.

The anti-sway bar is simple to use. Just lower and tighten the bar with the built-in hand knob. Then thread one of the safety straps through your bike's front and rear wheels and through a loop on the anti-sway bar before tightening the strap down with the plastic buckle.

Tilting Mast

The Road Runner's upright mast tilts forward to allow access to your vehicle's cargo area. Once your bikes are unloaded, just remove the linchpin from the base and tilt the rack away from the vehicle.

Security System

Road Runner Hitch and Cable Locks

The Road Runner includes a hitch lock that secures the bike carrier to your vehicle's 2" receiver. The rack also comes with an 9' long cable lock that can be fed through a welded steel loop on the bike rack. The vinyl-coated, braided steel cable will deter theft of your bikes.

Both the cable lock and the hitch lock have push-to-lock bodies and are conveniently keyed alike. Keyhole covers on the locks keep out dirt and moisture.

etrailer was very helpful in picking out the right trailer hitch mounted bike rack and after this weekend of biking (and carrying our bike on the rack), I can say the rack worked great. It was easy to load and held the bike steady. Many thanks. 523029

Review from a similar Road Runner in Hitch Bike Racks

This is my second Hollywood 4 bike rack with a 2" hitch. The first one was purchased in 2002 and was destroyed in a vehicle accident in May of 2019. I must say the new one is just as good as the first one with improvements in the bike latching system. Nothing on the current market compares with the quality of this product. I know I will have many more years of use and durability. etrailer is a great company to deal with. I was kept abreast of the shipping and transit status of the HR400 from the time of order until delivery. I would definitely buy from etrailer again. 666597

Review from a similar Road Runner in Hitch Bike Racks

When I received this the box was previously open. It had been re-stapled and tape up. Even the packing material was broken up. But to my surprise. The bike rack was fine. The rack is very strong and can easily carry 2 bikes along with a heavy ebike. Looks like it will suit me fine. 796969

Review from a similar Road Runner in Hitch Bike Racks

I did a lot of research on various websites before choosing the HR400. I wanted the strength of a full-size shank member designed exclusively for a 2-inch receiver. Hitch arrived within 3 days as promised. Assembly only involved inserting and tightening only one bolt, inserting hitch pin, then tightening "no-wobble lever". I used it to transport 2 bikes across town and I can report it was very solid, not a hint of wobble or noise. It's kind of embarrassing, but the biggest challenge I had was figuring out how use the nylon wheel strap buckles. I probably fussed longer with the buckles than I did with unboxing and installing the rack. Threading the nylon strap correctly through the plastic buckles is a snap once you solve the puzzle. (google it). The wheel straps are a nice touch and keep the bikes rock steady. For a short trip on smooth roads with only 2 (aluminum) bikes, I tried skipping the wheel straps and the bikes stayed reasonably solid. Probably would always use wheel straps if I had expensive carbon fiber bikes or if I was going on a longer trip with the possibility of rough roads. I am almost 70 and have no difficulty removing and reinstalling the rack. So far 5-stars. 783542

Review from a similar Road Runner in Hitch Bike Racks

If the unit is not loaded down with bikes, it rattles constantly. Which get annoying. I understand there is a tension handle that can be cranked but the design still allows for rattling. 654798

Review from a similar Road Runner in Hitch Bike Racks

I've been using this bike rack for over a year and am overall very happy with the performance and quality. It is easy to remove and reinstall, and the straps are sturdy. There is a little slop in the fit between the hitch and the bike rack itself, even with the locking pin tightening mechanism. 521832

Review from a similar Road Runner in Hitch Bike Racks

I bought my first Hollywood rack 15 years ago and am still using it. I got a smaller hitch and needed a new rack - so of course I got a new Hollywood 4-bike carrier. It works great! When I've need parts or had questions, the company has been very responsive. I wish all companies made stuff this good! 363316

The main differences between the Yakima RidgeBack # Y02459 and Hollywood Racks Road Runner # HR520 are that the Road Runner includes locks both for the rack itself and your loaded bikes, the Road Runner's arms are a bit further apart which might make loading some bikes easier and that the Yakima can fit two hitch sizes, 1-1/4- and 2-inch, while the Road Runner fits only 2-inch hitches. • Hitch Bike Rack with High Weight Capacity Suitable for Use on Motorhome
Any accessory carrier such as a hitch bike rack or hitch cargo carrier that is to be used on an RV, either a motorhome, trailer or camper, has to be built with reinforcement to withstand the extra stresses found at the rear of such RVs. The extra stresses come about due to the typically greater distance between the rear axle and hitch tube on such vehicles, as compared to that distance on a passenger car. The greater the distance between the two, the more leverage and movement there...
