SportRider SE Hitch Bike Rack

The Sport Rider Special Edition platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry up to 4 bikes on the rear of your vehicle. This versatile rack is easy to use, and it features locking frame hooks and adjustable wheel trays so you can quickly load and unload your bikes. A locking hitch pin with an anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver.

1400 SE 2-Piece

The Sport Rider SE consists of a two-bike base unit and a removable two-bike extension unit, allowing you to use the carrier as either a two- or four-bike rack. The 2 pieces make the rack easy to handle and install because you can slide the base into your hitch and secure it before adding the extension. A locking hitch pin with an anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

1400 SE Hooks

Constructed of rugged steel with a sleek black powder coat finish, the Sport Rider SE uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting hooks are easily adjusted along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The push buttons allow the hooks to slide up the ratcheting system to allow for bike removal. The lock cores keep the hooks from being moved up or down on the mast to deter theft. The hooks are different sizes and each one functions independently, meaning the rack can carry 4 bikes of the same or different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Holders

1400 SE Wheel Holders

The wheel holders accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60", and you can adjust the wheel hoops by sliding them along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with hand knobs. Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps secure your bike's wheels to the holders.

Fat Bike Wheel Cradles

If you want to carry a fat bike on the Sport Rider SE, you can replace the rack's wheel trays with specifically-designed fat bike cradles (HRSPRWH-F-HD - sold separately).

Folding, Tilting Design

Sport Rider SE Tilting Spring Pin

The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Simply remove the pivot pin, pull the bottom quick-release spring pin, and lower the rack.

Sport Rider SE Folding Spring Pin

The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just pull the upper quick-release spring pin and lift.

Easy Installation with Locking Hitch Pin

The Sport Rider SE easily installs in your hitch with the included locking hitch pin. Just slide the shank into your receiver and insert the hitch pin. The frame hook locks and the hitch locks are conveniently keyed alike.

1400 SE Anti-Wobbles

An integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the base unit tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the receiver. You don't need to pull out a wrench every time you install the rack on your hitch - just turn the easy-to-access handle to keep the rack from rattling. A second lever secures the two-bike extension to the base of the rack.

The included 8' long cable attaches to the hitch pin to help secure 2 bikes to Sport Rider rack. The extension cable can be added to the 8' cable to help secure 4 bikes to the rack.

Add-On Adapters

Sport Rider SE Cargo Carrier

If you want to carry both 2 bikes and extra gear, an add-on cargo basket (HR1485 - sold separately) is available.

 Hollywood Racks Wheel Hoop Adapters

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels, wheel hoop adapters (HRSW-ADP-2 - sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport one recumbent delta trike or one recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Sport Rider SE, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately). Or if you want to transport one standard bike and either one recumbent delta trike, one recumbent tadpole-style trike, or one adult trike, then you can use the HRTRK-ADP-2 adapter (sold separately).

Note: The trike adapters can only be used with the Sport Rider SE's two-bike base unit.

Video Transcript for Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Platform Style Four Bike Rack, part number HR1400Z. If you like to take your bikes with you on long vacations, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 is motor home approved. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider is the perfect bike rack for a family or a group of friends. It allows us to carry up to four bikes with a few extra nice features. It holds our four bikes by their frames, which means it's going to work with a wide variety of bikes. We've got a mountain bike, a road bike, a bike with alternative frame style, and a kid's bike. How it works is, the frame hook puts down pressure on our bike's top tubes into the front and rear cradles, and then a hook and loop strap keeps our wheels in place.Like most premium style bike racks, we can tilt it away to gain access to our rear hatch, and it does this even with all four bikes loaded.

How you do that is, we'll remove the snapper pin here, and then, to make it easier, we'll want to have one of our buddies pick up on the end of the bike rack. That way, that pin easily slides out. From there, we can pull out on the quick release spring pin, and then it allows us to tilt it down. Then you can open up your rear hatch to remove any gear you might have with you on your trip. Now, right here, as you can see, our handlebar would make contact if we we're to go any further. Depending on your vehicle or the bikes you may be carrying, you may be able to get a little more or a little less out of your rear hatch clearance.I've gone ahead and removed two bikes so I can show you the next best feature.

If only two of you are going out for a ride, it easily converts down to a two bike rack. Simply loosen up the lever, pull the pin and clip, and it slides right out. It then gets replaced by a reflector. As you can see, it gives us more clearance here at the rear, and it's less weight to carry. Now, you also have the option to use a cargo basket. Once the pin holes are lined up, we'll put our snapper pin back in place, then we'll tighten up that lever back here to reduce our play and rattle.

With this set-up, we can carry two bikes plus 90 pounds of gear.I've gone ahead and replaced my two bike extension and removed the last two bikes. Let's finish out on the last bit of features. The frame hooks themselves are rubber coated so they won't harm or scratch our bike's top tube. They also are adjustable along the center mast for different size bikes. Once you've got your bike in place, they easily ratchet down.

All of our frame hooks are lockable, that way our bikes cannot be removed from our bike rack. Here at the bottom, the wheel cradles are adjustable along the platform. This is for bikes with different size wheel bases, like an adult size bike versus a kid's bike. Once you've got it set, you simply tighten up the knob. Now, the cradles themselves will hold a tire up to three inches wide. If you already have this bike rack and you'd like to hold a fat bike, you can pick up the fat bike adapter kit, with part number HRSPRWHR-F-HD. That will give you the fat bike cradles. The straps that keep our wheels in place are hook and loop. When the bike rack is not in use, the center masts fold down. I'd like to point out that the pins do not use clips to hold them in place. They actually feature a tab that, when lined up with the notch, pass through, and when they're turned, they cannot be removed. So that's a nice feature. With both center masts fold down, we can access our rear hatch without tilting it away. Again, to remove that cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us.Now, you can stow the bike rack in this position while you're on the trails. If you'd like more clearance, you can fold it up against your vehicle. This would be ideal for when driving. What you'll do is you'll pull out on that quick release spring pin, fold it up until it snaps in place. This is also ideal for pulling in a tight parking spot or in your garage. The Trail Rider has a 7 inch rise. This is not only going to give us better ground clearance here at the rear, but it's going to give us a higher loading height for loading and unloading our bikes. This is going to be less strenuous on our backs. It's made out of a sturdy steel construction, giving us a weight capacity of 50 pounds per bike. That's for the two bike section and the four bike section. Hollywood Racks has the standard black powder coated finish, so it's going to be resistant to rust and corrosion. Now, we'll give you some clearance dimensions. This is going to give you an idea of how it's going to fit your vehicle. The distance from the face of the hitch to the closest part of the rack when folded up is about 5 inches. The distance from the face of the hitch to the farthest part of the rack when folded up is about 16-1/4 inches. The distance from the face of the hitch to the closest part of the rack when folded down is about 7-1/2 inches. The distance from the face of the hitch to the farthest part of the rack is about 46 inches. Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. It's important to note that you do need a 2 inch by 2 inch receiver in order to install this bike rack. On our 2 inch shank, we've got our oblong pin hole here, and then on the inside, we have our adjustable loop. Once we feed our shank into our receiver tube of our vehicle, the pin will then go through the oblong hole and the adjustable loop. From there, we then come back to our lever and start tightening that up. As we're tightening, it's going to draw that loop back up against the pin holes on our receiver tube, removing all the rattle and play from our bike rack.Let's go ahead and check it out. We'll feed our shank into the receiver tube, push it all the way in until the front of our hitch makes contact with this welded on tab. The full bike rack is pretty heavy, weighing about 81 pounds, so if you'd like to separate the two, making it a little bit lighter for you to load in your receiver tube, go ahead and do so. The two bike is only about 51 pounds. With everything all lined up, we can then take our included pin, slide that through on either side, and then put our lock on.The nice thing about the lock is, no one's going to be able to remove our bike rack from our hitch. Once it's in place, we'll then come back to our lever and start tightening it up. As I said, by doing this, it's going to reduce all that play and rattle from inside our receiver tube and our bike rack to make a nice, solid ride for our bikes. We'll just tighten that all the way up. One thing to note is, you do not want this up and down, because once it tilts down, it'll make contact, and you don't want it all the way at the bottom, because then it'll interfere with your ground clearance. So we'll tighten it up until it's on either the left or right side. With everything secure in our bike rack, let's load up our bikes. We'll need to lower it down to the platform position. I'll pull out on my quick release pin and lower it down until it snaps into place. Then we can raise up our center mast. Then we can undo our hook and loop wheel straps. Now, if you'd like to, per your instructions, you have the option to remove this Phillips head screw. This is going to allow you to completely remove the frame hooks. This may make it easier to load up your bike. Then we can load up our first bike. It's recommended that you load up the heaviest bike first. As you can see, since the frame hooks are not in the way, it makes it just a tiny bit easier to load up your bikes. Then we can just replace them once our bikes are in place. Then we can just run our hook and loop strap over our wheels. With all of our bikes loaded up, we can then run our included cable locks for more security. It includes a long cable and a short one. The long one is just for our two bike section, if we're only using that. The extension is for our four bike section. Let's start by connecting the two. We'll put one through one of the looped ends, and then we'll go back through itself. Just like that. We can then go through all of our bikes' wheels on each side.Once we've gotten to the shank of our bike rack, we can take the metal portion, go through the loop. We'll remove our lock, slip this in place, and then replace the lock. And then both the four bike section and the two bike section are locked together to our hitch pin lock. With everything loaded up and secure, let's go ahead and take it out on our test course and see how it performs. Here on our test course, let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side to side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up and down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking garage. And then finally on to our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action, such as driving over potholes or uneven pavement. That's going to complete our look at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Platform Style Four Bike Rack, part number HR1400Z.

I was nervous buying a rack costing half as much as a premium brand. I was afraid I was buying something flimsy or cheaply built. Not the case. I took four bikes 1000 miles and it worked perfectly. It’s heeeeaaavyyy.... once you get it in the hitch, though, that’s a good thing. The bikes were secure, and it has a tightening system to hold it firmly in the hitch: there was very little wobble. I’ve never used the higher prices racks like the Kuat, so I can’t compare them. What I can say is that this rack is solid. If you can get over NOT buying the name brand, like Thule, Kuat, etc, you can save a lot of money and feel confident your bikes are safe. 681713

Very sturdy bike rack. Just takes sometime to get every bike set-up on the rack. Could be a little more user friendly. But for the price it will be a great rack for our family of 4. 565169

Nice, solid bike rack. Props to e-trailer for the free shipping as this thing was heavy. The bike rack was fairly easy to assemble. the only issue I had was that one of the stop screws that prevent the wheel platforms from sliding off wouldn't go in all the way. Not sure if the hole wasn't drilled properly or if I cross-threaded the screw, but I could only screw it in halfway. It's secure (and no one will ever notice), it was just a minor frustration when putting the rack together. The bikes are extremely stable on the rack and the rack is extremely stable when properly attached to the vehicle. They aren't budging. It took a few tries to figure out the proper configuration for all 4 bike, but once I figured out that puzzle, loading and unloading is a snap. The 3rd bike is a bit tricky to get on. I'm happy with this purchase. It was more than i wanted to spend on a bike rack, but I'm glad I went with the higher quality. 145072

Ordered it on Monday and it was here on Wednesday! I was able to put the 4 bike rake together by myself in about an hour. Easy to assemble and all the parts were included. Make well and is very sturdy. The back two bike section comes off every easily when not needed. The tilt down feature is easy to use and I was able to open the hatch door on my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee 657156

My husband gets frustrated very easily so imagine my surprise when this was installed with no complaints. It's very user friendly and I'm able to access the trunk without a problem. We have a Subaru outback. The bikes are secure and the rack easily adjusts to different size bikes. I love that you can adjust the rack to be smaller to carry 2 bikes. Everything about this rack is quality and easy to use. 216417

Hey Nicole, any issues with the rack clearance with a bike mounted touching the rear bumper? I have a 15 Outback. Thanks
-- comment by: Tony F - 08/08/2015

Tony,We dont have any problems. There is a bit of space from the back bumper to the beginning of the rack. My initial thought was, why do they make the rack extend out so far? Then I realized it was necessary so you can fit between the car and rack. Once its tilted we have enough clearance to open the hatch. We have a 2011 outback

I have yet to use this rack, but I did want to offer some preliminary thoughts. First, etrailer shipped it quickly. The packaging was good with no damage to the rack despite some holes in the boxes. Etrailer also honored their price guarantee. The instructions (see link below or use http://www.etrailer.com/instructions.aspx?pn=HR1400 ) are not very good. The diagrams could have shown a better “exploded” view and detailed the parts better. The parts themselves are NOT labeled (well some have “L” or “S”, but you can see there are no parts S or L). Step 1.(3.) has you insert pin H6 and install clip R (a cotter pin) through the pin. Nope! Pins H6 and H5 are attached receiver tube H and neither uses a cotter pin - they both have attached clips. The cotter pin "R" is only used in Step 4. There stop screws (Figure 2c) but the instructions don’t tell you to use the included washers, washers also not detailed in the parts list. The multiple “L” pins have index guides that need to be aligned with the index holes on order to remove and insert them. So if you can’t get that “L” pin out, it needs to be rotated. There are other examples, but you get the idea. I ended up with and extra washer (a heavy washer) and a ring but I think everything is put together correctly. BE CAREFUL! If you get careless placing a bike between the vertical post and the car, and the bike slips, the bike’s handlebars could break the back glass on an SUV type vehicle. I learned this from experience, but fortunately I didn’t break the glass. The instruction say to position the bike’s frame so the hook rests on the lowest point of the top tube. This makes sense but forced me to rearrange the wheel holders because our bikes are so different and I wanted each bike set up in a certain slot. Other than that, everything feels solid and I look forward to using this for years to come. 297586

This rack is fantastic. It is extremely well built and was easy to install. Using it on the back of our 25ft Mercedes sprinter RV motorhome. This thing looks like it will last forever... 571627

I debated between the HR1400 and Pro Series Q Slot and do not regret the HR1400. First, the package arrived one day early, but the shipping box was badly damaged. However, everything inside was packaged for the most part separately and nothing was damaged. So immediately put the rack together on my 1998 Dodge Pickup. The rack assembly was very quick and easy. I read a lot of reviews indicating the instructions are poor. They are not the best but honestly the rack was very easy to put together. Be sure to build the rack off of your hitch. Once built I was impressed!! Very sturdy and not a bad looking rack. I threw four mountain bikes right away onto the rack and they fit great. It did take me about 25 minutes to get the bikes on as you will find that you'll need to figure the best order for them to go on considering frame size etc.. I think if I were to do it again I would be able to do it in half the time. I took the bikes off the rack in about 5 minutes or less. I have not yet taking the bikes out as I just recieved the bike rack yesterday afternoon but was excited to build the rack and load the rack. But I can tell you that I see no problem with how it will travel down the road as this thing is solid! I did grab the rack while loaded with bikes and shook the hell out of it to see of the bikes would move. There was no wiggle or indication the rack or bikes were not secure. I choose the HR1400 because I need a rack that will fold up and also tilt. I also felt that the reviews were best on multiple websites not just etrailer. I also noticed that etrailer had by far the best customer service reviews which was important in case I had problems with the rack. You can not go wrong with the HR1400! You can not go wrong purchasing any equipement from etrailer.com as they did replied to a email very quickly amd sent out early. Believe me...this is an excellent bike rack. Safe riding! 499176

I have been looking for a platform bike rack that can hold 4 bikes, and I found etrailer the best place to search. Beside the wide selection, they have great videos, pictures, and Q/A sessions where a lot of information can be found. I chose the Hollywood HR1400 over the Swagman XTC-4 mainly due to its capability to tilt away from the car, and that the XTC would not properly close to the upright position on my 2013 Odyssey. The service from etrailer was excellent. I placed the order on Wednesday, and that very afternoon Bridget called me to tell me that the order was received, but a small problem is that they did not have the product on stock. Since I was going down to Florida for vacation, it was important to get the product within a certain timeframe (wanted to ship the product to FL instead of Canada, where I live). When I told Bridget my dilemma, she was very helpful, and ended up shipping the unit from a different warehouse in MO, and it only cost me $14 in shipping instead of free shipping. But, I got the product the following Monday! Great service! I just got home last night, and hardly could wait to assemble the rack today. The assembly was easy, it took about 30-35 minutes. The instructions were helping, but the product is self explanatory too. I loaded the bikes, and took a short ride. The rack is solid, which is what I thought the first time I assembled it. The bikes were not rattling at all. It is easy to fold it up and down. It actually is close to the car in the upright position, but it clears the bumper and the tailgate as you can see it on the pictures. I was a bit worried about ground clearance, since the Odyssey's hitch is kind of low, but there is no problem there either, as the rack has quite a bit of elevation from the main shank. Below some measurements for those who have the same car, and thinking of buying this rack (so far I did not find this information on the website): Ground clearance at main shank: 9" Ground clearance at the end of 4 bike unit: 18" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when upright: 2" Distance between tailgate and closest part of rack when upright: 3" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when folded down: 8" All in all, I highly recommend etrailer for your towing needs, they are a reputable and reliable company, I just wish we would have more like them on the web. I will definitely come back if I am in need of similar products, and will recommend to my friends. Great job Etrailer Team! 192302

A year into its use and as good as new. Super sturdy and the bikes really feel secure. I've used it with 1, 2, 3 and 4 bikes and adapting configs is pretty easy. Fit really nice on my Pilot (shown mounted but folded in the pic). Oh, great support too when I first assembled it. I called up with a quick question and spoke immediately to a live knowleadgeble person. 266198

You want sturdy? This is your rack. It is well built! Takes about 90 minutes for an ordinary woman to assemble. Plan on getting some time learning which knob or lever does what. Not hard, but don't be in too much of a hurry. It's on the back of a 2014 Subaru Outback in Texas. It clears the bumper fine and folds up nicely with the four bike extension on it. I do have to allow for more gentle driving to escape dragging on dips in driveways. Haven't taken my trip yet, but happy with the purchase and astounded by the helpful employee and faster-than-promised delivery. A totally wonderful experience. That almost never happens! 620168

Great communication from seller. Fast shipping, particularly since it's free. Item arrived and was in good shape. Heavy and awkward to carry so be careful how far you have to lift it. Don't ask your wife to pick it up. Not very difficult to put together, although slowed down by cumbersome instructions with poor pictures and it took time to identify each part as the correct one. Good quality unit, although some packing styrofoam was glued to bars leaving several stretches of white, sticky goo on the upwards facing bars where the tire holders slide. Makes adjusting the tire holders more difficult. Overall a good product and handles the 4 bikes well. Will see over time how it holds up to consistent use. 105153

I bought a truck and went to a tailgate pad. I sold the rack. It worked well. Thanks

I've only just received my HR1400 Hollywood rack, assembled it, installed in on my car, and loaded it with 4 of our bikes, but I'm very impressed so far. It's exactly what I was hoping for. It is heavy, but it's extremely sturdy. I found it very easy to mount on my car and remove when I do so taking advantage of the fact it breaks into 2 pieces (which it does very easily). I'm looking forward to using it on our next outing. By the way, etrailer.com rocks! You had the best price on this rack and it was sitting on my doorstep 2 days after ordering (ordered Wed afternoon and delivered Friday). In addition, I had no issues with the packaging or the contents being damaged as a few others have mentioned in reviews. 122412

Ive owned this rack for a year now and I still love it. I would definitely buy it again if I ever had the need. Clearances are fine on my vehicle. I have no issue with the Velcro-like straps. The only issue I have is that I cant open the back of my car when bikes are loaded. But honestly, I dont find that to be a huge deal.

Just installed the 2-bike half on my hitch for the first time. The rack came in a gazillion pieces and took about an hour to set up for the first time, but I'm very happy so far. I don't have much to say that wasn't covered in other reviews but I'll note I had no problem opening the hatch on my CRV with the rack tilted down and loaded with and adult size bike. 655906

I just used this on my 2012 Honda Pilot for a road trip over 700 miles. I hauled my 29er along with my kids bikes (a 20" & a 24"). It works great for hauling different sizes of bikes together. It was rock solid and the bikes were absolutely stable and secure. It takes a few minutes to figure out the best configuration for your specific bikes when you first set it up but once you have a system its super quick and easy. This rack is heavy and solid and should last forever (except for maybe the velcro straps which do seem sufficient for now and would be easy to replace if needed). Even though it is heavy I am still able to carry it around and install/remove it by myself (5'4-130 lb woman). I love that the locks were included making this a great value. I also love that its two separate parts so I can use it as a 2 bike carrier or a 4 bike carrier when needed. Many times I am only hauling one bike and dont need a ginormous 4 bike carrier. Etrailers shipping was super fast!! The only thing I can criticize is the terrible instructions but if you look at the pictures on the box you can figure it out fairly quickly, it really wasnt difficult. Overall, I am very, very happy with this bike rack! 163356

Great bike rack, significantly cheaper than other tray-style mounts. This rack does carry a kids 16" bike (must buy the adapter from e-trailer), which is one of the reasons why we went with the Hollywood Rack. For the adult bike, we used a foam noodle on the top post to prevent damage to the gear cables. There was some paint damage to the rack that I am assuming occurred during shipping that I'll need to touch up with a can of spray-paint, but other than that, I am pleased with the rack! 616089

This rack works perfect with our 2015 Dodge Durango. I am able to lower it down and fully open the rear hatch which was the main reason I chose this rack. It is heavy, but the system to tighten it down in the receiver eliminates any play or wobble. I can load 4 bikes in less than 5 minutes!! I fabricated a bracket to also hold my kids trail-a-bike. 655410

thank you for the follow up. The bike hitch was delivered ahead of expectations and in good order. Given its weight the outside packaging (pictures attached) was damaged on the corners but the actual internal contents was well packaged enough that no damage to the product occurred. Have installed and used it on MTB trip already and it works great...love the optionality to have either a 4 bike to 2 bike setup. 352014

I have used the bike hitch a lot in both the 2 x bike and 4 x bike configuration. Both adult and kids bike sizes. Once you get the spacing setup loading and unloading is easy. Travels behind the vehicle really well and does not sway given the way it integrates with the locking pin system. Very happy with it.

For the price I give it 5 stars although 4.5 is more realistic. So far, I have only used the two bike carrier and have travelled well over 500 miles. I have yet to attach the extended carrier and used it with all four bikes but I doubt that would change any of my opinions. I like that all of the locks are on the same key (hitch bolt, slide down locks and cable lock. I love that the cable lock was included. The hooks are well padded although I can see a bit of black rubbing off on my cross bar. This doesn't bother me. The Velcro straps work well, I just wonder how time and wear will treat them. The carrier is solid and doesn't have any movement up and down, but it does have a little sideways movement. This isn't a big deal to me. Getting the bike closest to the vehicle on the rack is challenging, but doable once you learn how. The ability to tilt the rack away from the vehicle is great and well as the ability to fold it up. It is solidly built and has significant weight to it. The adjustability of the wheel wells is very nice. You should be able to place any style and size bikes on it with no issues (except for fat tire). I've seen some of their older models and this one is much better. 695663

The quality of the trailer hitch and assembly is excellent. Very happy with the quality and the purchase price. Given I was installing on a 2004 Honda Odyssey in 2015, I did have difficulty with the pre-drilled holes and threads on the frame of the vehicle. I made several attempted to clean the threads but was unsuccessful. I eventually took the hitch assembly to a local installer and they put it on for $[...]. The instructions provided for self installation were very clear and straight forward. I use my hitch assembly to haul bikes around to various triathlons. I purchased the bike carrier separately and it slides right into the hitch opening and locks on. 246026

Lets be honest, there are better looking racks. But I work at etrailer.com and can use pretty much any bike rack in the world. When it came time to go on an adventure race I chose this rack to get my teams bikes there. When we got home one of my team mates bought one because he was so impressed. When it came time to go on a 12 hour road trip with my family I chose the Hollywood. It is a star. Not a Marilyn Monroe, more of a Sylvester Stallone. The thing is solid and it works really well. It is heavy, but any 4 bike rack is going to be on the heavy side. The option to remove the 2 bike extension is nice because it makes the rack easier to handle when you only need 2 bikes. The antirattle knob snugs the rack up in the hitch super tight. Having the cable lock and hitch lock included and keyed the same makes it easy to lock the bikes up when you stop for dinner. The folding feature uses pins and clips instead of the switches found on some other racks. The pins and holes were a bit tough to get aligned at first. I had to ask my wife to lift up on the end of the rack just a hair to get the pin started. She got chain grease on her and I quickly learned that asking for her help was not a good solution to my pin alignment problem. So I grabbed my drill and a bit that was sized the same as the pin hole and cleaned out the holes. About one minute later the pin was sliding in and out perfectly and my wife will never get greasy again. In a nutshell this rack is not the lightest, not the easiest and not the prettiest, but I love it. It is easy enough to use that it is not a hassle, it locks to keep the bikes safe, is a great price for the features and it is solid, very solid. You can see in the pictures that I have used this rack extensively and it still is working great. 102588

Hi, my question is whether you have any frame damage on your biks after your long trips. Vs. going with the t2 or hold up style.
-- comment by: nate - 05/07/2015

Nate, I have used the rack on a few long trips, to Colorado, Wisconsin and to our adventure race. So far there has not been any frame damage. The hook that comes down on the frame has a pretty thick pad. One of the wheel clamp racks would prevent the possibility of frame damage, but I think it will be a long time before the pad on the Hollywood wears out and it is an issue.

Are there any issues with putting carbon fiber frames on this rack?

I was looking for a 4 bike hitch mounted rack of this style. My main goal was to have it fit my 05 Jeep Wrangler with 31 x 10.5 tires. I wanted to make sure the rack would rest in the folded up positon when not in use. I also wanted the flexibility to have only a 2 bike mount for when I ride solo. I emailed etrailer and they were quick with a response and included a video as well. I placed the order a week ago Saturday, and my rack was delivered ahead of schedule. I was blown away by the service I received from etrailer, and am very pleased with the rack. I found it easy to install and it totally does what I need it to do. Thank you etrailer. Keep up the great job. 104595

I love it. It is a breeze to put it on and take it off. When it is on, I feel secure knowing that everything is locked to my vehicle. The rack itself when not in use tilts up and fits perfectly against the spare tire on my Jeep.

Pure awesomeness! But I’ll remind you now, lest you forget in your enthusiasm: the pin’s not stuck, you secured it down with that crank as one of the first steps. No hammer needed. Just sayin). I can’t wait for the next trip. No more fighting forever to get the handlebars untangled while I try to fit all the bikes on. Which I contend is IMPOSSIBLE on those stupid hanging rack types. No more wheels flopping in the breeze potentially scratching my car. No more removing the wheels because the bike shop sold me a carrier that was too low for my minivan. No more bikes bouncing up and down while I drive. No more scraping the exit curbs. AND I still have a decent view out of the back up camera/screen!! I was able to open the hatch with the bikes tilted. You have to hold the bike closest back a little. I let it do it by itself and the auto open forced it way through instead of stopping and it did scratch the car. But closing it, I stayed at the handle bars and gently pushed and it cleared fine. And it locks to the car. No more fear my rack will get stolen. And comes with another lock for the bikes. Sure a bottle opener would be a cool feature. I’ll rubberbad one on. It’s SO worth the money! Stop comparing and put it in the cart. By the way, the pics only show it set up with two racks. I love that I can customize it to the number of us going out for the day. 503456

- HR1400Z

This performs exactly as advertised. It's a little heavy when both halves (2 + 2 bike racks) are moved in one piece, but you can always take a little more time and separate them. It also indicates the quality of build - a typical tradeoff strength vs. weight. The bike hooks (top clamps) are sometimes tough for my wife to get moving upward to release the bikes, but that binding is related to how hard I cinch them down and there's really not any way to avoid that without a more complicated mechanism. Simple, strong and has enough adjustment so you can get four bikes meshed together like puzzle pieces. Once it's set up, at most 5 minutes loading and five minutes unloading four bikes. Not too often a product lives up to expectations. Really no complaints as to performance and durability. Worth the money. 351986

I’d like to see how it performs after the winter of indoor storage. Here in MN, it’ll probably be another month or more before I get to haul the bikes anywhere - but I expect it will perform as well as it did last season.

Ask the Experts about this Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks

  • Why Cant Some Bike Racks be Used on the Back of an RV or Trailer
Only certain bike racks are rated for use at the back of an RV or trailer but the Hollywood Racks # HR1400Z bike rack is not one of them. Generally, any rack that can fold or tilt, with few exceptions, won't be rated for this applications. The reason is that there is significantly more movement at the back of an RV or trailer due to the distance from the rear axle to the end of the vehicle/trailer and/or because the suspension is not as effective in many cases as a passenger vehicle. Folding/titling...
