sport rider

The Sport Rider Special Edition platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry 4 bikes on the rear of your vehicle. This versatile rack is easy to use, and it features locking frame hooks and adjustable wheel hoops so you can quickly load and unload your bikes. An anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the tube.

1400 SE 2-Piece

The Sport Rider SE consists of a two-bike base unit and a removable two-bike extension unit, allowing you to use the carrier as either a two- or four-bike rack. The 2 pieces make the rack easy to install because you can slide the base into your hitch and secure it before adding the extension.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

ratcheting hooks

The Sport Rider SE uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting, cushioned hooks easily adjust along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The release buttons allow each hook to slide up the ratcheting arm for bike removal. The hooks function independently, which means you can position them to carry bikes of different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Hoops

wheel hoops

The wheel hoops accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 60" by sliding along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with easy-to-use hand knobs, and the Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps fasten the wheels to the hoops.

Fat Bike Wheel Cradles

If you want to carry a fat bike on the Sport Rider SE, you can replace the rack's wheel hoops with fat bike hoops (sold separately).

Folding, Tilting Design

tilting

The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Simply remove the pivot pin, pull the bottom quick-release spring pin, and lower the rack.

folding

The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just pull the upper quick-release spring pin and lift.

Tool-Free Installation with Anti-Rattle System

The rack installs in your hitch without the need for tools. Simply slide the shank into your receiver until the welded stop plate contacts the hitch. The stop plate saves you from getting on your hands and knees to align the pin holes while inserting the hitch pin. Once the pin is in place, attach the lock pod. Lastly, use the integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the shank to tighten the rack inside your hitch receiver and prevent it from rattling.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

The lock cores in the frame hooks hold the bike down on the rack and prevent them from moving. Also, the lock pod attaches to the hitch pin to secure the rack to your vehicle. These locks are conveniently keyed alike. For extra protection, the 8' long security cable wraps through the bike frames, connects to the hitch pin, and is secured to the pin by the hitch lock. The extension cable can be added to the 8' cable to help secure 4 bikes to the rack.

Add-On Adapters

Sport Rider SE Cargo Carrier

If you want to carry both 2 bikes and extra gear, an add-on cargo basket (sold separately) is available.

 Hollywood Racks Wheel Hoop Adapters

If you want to use the rack to transport a kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels, wheel hoop adapters (sold separately) are available.

If you want to transport one recumbent delta trike or one recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Sport Rider SE, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately). Or if you want to transport one standard bike and either one recumbent delta trike, one recumbent tadpole-style trike, or one adult trike, then you can use the HRTRK-ADP-2 adapter (sold separately).

Note: The trike adapters can only be used with the Sport Rider SE's two-bike base unit.

Does everything I wanted in a new bike rack: folds, tilts, holds bikes upright and converts from 4 to 2 bikes. Also has locks incorporated into frame with additional locking heavy duty cable. 614994

Very sturdy bike rack. Just takes sometime to get every bike set-up on the rack. Could be a little more user friendly. But for the price it will be a great rack for our family of 4. 565169

The quality of the trailer hitch and assembly is excellent. Very happy with the quality and the purchase price. Given I was installing on a 2004 Honda Odyssey in 2015, I did have difficulty with the pre-drilled holes and threads on the frame of the vehicle. I made several attempted to clean the threads but was unsuccessful. I eventually took the hitch assembly to a local installer and they put it on for $[...]. The instructions provided for self installation were very clear and straight forward. I use my hitch assembly to haul bikes around to various triathlons. I purchased the bike carrier separately and it slides right into the hitch opening and locks on. 246026

I debated between the HR1400 and Pro Series Q Slot and do not regret the HR1400. First, the package arrived one day early, but the shipping box was badly damaged. However, everything inside was packaged for the most part separately and nothing was damaged. So immediately put the rack together on my 1998 Dodge Pickup. The rack assembly was very quick and easy. I read a lot of reviews indicating the instructions are poor. They are not the best but honestly the rack was very easy to put together. Be sure to build the rack off of your hitch. Once built I was impressed!! Very sturdy and not a bad looking rack. I threw four mountain bikes right away onto the rack and they fit great. It did take me about 25 minutes to get the bikes on as you will find that you'll need to figure the best order for them to go on considering frame size etc.. I think if I were to do it again I would be able to do it in half the time. I took the bikes off the rack in about 5 minutes or less. I have not yet taking the bikes out as I just recieved the bike rack yesterday afternoon but was excited to build the rack and load the rack. But I can tell you that I see no problem with how it will travel down the road as this thing is solid! I did grab the rack while loaded with bikes and shook the hell out of it to see of the bikes would move. There was no wiggle or indication the rack or bikes were not secure. I choose the HR1400 because I need a rack that will fold up and also tilt. I also felt that the reviews were best on multiple websites not just etrailer. I also noticed that etrailer had by far the best customer service reviews which was important in case I had problems with the rack. You can not go wrong with the HR1400! You can not go wrong purchasing any equipement from etrailer.com as they did replied to a email very quickly amd sent out early. Believe me...this is an excellent bike rack. Safe riding! 499176

A year into its use and as good as new. Super sturdy and the bikes really feel secure. I've used it with 1, 2, 3 and 4 bikes and adapting configs is pretty easy. Fit really nice on my Pilot (shown mounted but folded in the pic). Oh, great support too when I first assembled it. I called up with a quick question and spoke immediately to a live knowleadgeble person. 266198

I have yet to use this rack, but I did want to offer some preliminary thoughts. First, etrailer shipped it quickly. The packaging was good with no damage to the rack despite some holes in the boxes. Etrailer also honored their price guarantee. The instructions (see link below or use http://www.etrailer.com/instructions.aspx?pn=HR1400 ) are not very good. The diagrams could have shown a better “exploded” view and detailed the parts better. The parts themselves are NOT labeled (well some have “L” or “S”, but you can see there are no parts S or L). Step 1.(3.) has you insert pin H6 and install clip R (a cotter pin) through the pin. Nope! Pins H6 and H5 are attached receiver tube H and neither uses a cotter pin - they both have attached clips. The cotter pin "R" is only used in Step 4. There stop screws (Figure 2c) but the instructions don’t tell you to use the included washers, washers also not detailed in the parts list. The multiple “L” pins have index guides that need to be aligned with the index holes on order to remove and insert them. So if you can’t get that “L” pin out, it needs to be rotated. There are other examples, but you get the idea. I ended up with and extra washer (a heavy washer) and a ring but I think everything is put together correctly. BE CAREFUL! If you get careless placing a bike between the vertical post and the car, and the bike slips, the bike’s handlebars could break the back glass on an SUV type vehicle. I learned this from experience, but fortunately I didn’t break the glass. The instruction say to position the bike’s frame so the hook rests on the lowest point of the top tube. This makes sense but forced me to rearrange the wheel holders because our bikes are so different and I wanted each bike set up in a certain slot. Other than that, everything feels solid and I look forward to using this for years to come. 297586

I have been looking for a platform bike rack that can hold 4 bikes, and I found etrailer the best place to search. Beside the wide selection, they have great videos, pictures, and Q/A sessions where a lot of information can be found. I chose the Hollywood HR1400 over the Swagman XTC-4 mainly due to its capability to tilt away from the car, and that the XTC would not properly close to the upright position on my 2013 Odyssey. The service from etrailer was excellent. I placed the order on Wednesday, and that very afternoon Bridget called me to tell me that the order was received, but a small problem is that they did not have the product on stock. Since I was going down to Florida for vacation, it was important to get the product within a certain timeframe (wanted to ship the product to FL instead of Canada, where I live). When I told Bridget my dilemma, she was very helpful, and ended up shipping the unit from a different warehouse in MO, and it only cost me $14 in shipping instead of free shipping. But, I got the product the following Monday! Great service! I just got home last night, and hardly could wait to assemble the rack today. The assembly was easy, it took about 30-35 minutes. The instructions were helping, but the product is self explanatory too. I loaded the bikes, and took a short ride. The rack is solid, which is what I thought the first time I assembled it. The bikes were not rattling at all. It is easy to fold it up and down. It actually is close to the car in the upright position, but it clears the bumper and the tailgate as you can see it on the pictures. I was a bit worried about ground clearance, since the Odyssey's hitch is kind of low, but there is no problem there either, as the rack has quite a bit of elevation from the main shank. Below some measurements for those who have the same car, and thinking of buying this rack (so far I did not find this information on the website): Ground clearance at main shank: 9" Ground clearance at the end of 4 bike unit: 18" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when upright: 2" Distance between tailgate and closest part of rack when upright: 3" Distance between bumber and closest part of rack when folded down: 8" All in all, I highly recommend etrailer for your towing needs, they are a reputable and reliable company, I just wish we would have more like them on the web. I will definitely come back if I am in need of similar products, and will recommend to my friends. Great job Etrailer Team! 192302

Nice, solid bike rack. Props to e-trailer for the free shipping as this thing was heavy. The bike rack was fairly easy to assemble. the only issue I had was that one of the stop screws that prevent the wheel platforms from sliding off wouldn't go in all the way. Not sure if the hole wasn't drilled properly or if I cross-threaded the screw, but I could only screw it in halfway. It's secure (and no one will ever notice), it was just a minor frustration when putting the rack together. The bikes are extremely stable on the rack and the rack is extremely stable when properly attached to the vehicle. They aren't budging. It took a few tries to figure out the proper configuration for all 4 bike, but once I figured out that puzzle, loading and unloading is a snap. The 3rd bike is a bit tricky to get on. I'm happy with this purchase. It was more than i wanted to spend on a bike rack, but I'm glad I went with the higher quality. 145072

Pure awesomeness! But I’ll remind you now, lest you forget in your enthusiasm: the pin’s not stuck, you secured it down with that crank as one of the first steps. No hammer needed. Just sayin). I can’t wait for the next trip. No more fighting forever to get the handlebars untangled while I try to fit all the bikes on. Which I contend is IMPOSSIBLE on those stupid hanging rack types. No more wheels flopping in the breeze potentially scratching my car. No more removing the wheels because the bike shop sold me a carrier that was too low for my minivan. No more bikes bouncing up and down while I drive. No more scraping the exit curbs. AND I still have a decent view out of the back up camera/screen!! I was able to open the hatch with the bikes tilted. You have to hold the bike closest back a little. I let it do it by itself and the auto open forced it way through instead of stopping and it did scratch the car. But closing it, I stayed at the handle bars and gently pushed and it cleared fine. And it locks to the car. No more fear my rack will get stolen. And comes with another lock for the bikes. Sure a bottle opener would be a cool feature. I’ll rubberbad one on. It’s SO worth the money! Stop comparing and put it in the cart. By the way, the pics only show it set up with two racks. I love that I can customize it to the number of us going out for the day. 503456

You want sturdy? This is your rack. It is well built! Takes about 90 minutes for an ordinary woman to assemble. Plan on getting some time learning which knob or lever does what. Not hard, but don't be in too much of a hurry. It's on the back of a 2014 Subaru Outback in Texas. It clears the bumper fine and folds up nicely with the four bike extension on it. I do have to allow for more gentle driving to escape dragging on dips in driveways. Haven't taken my trip yet, but happy with the purchase and astounded by the helpful employee and faster-than-promised delivery. A totally wonderful experience. That almost never happens! 620168

I've only just received my HR1400 Hollywood rack, assembled it, installed in on my car, and loaded it with 4 of our bikes, but I'm very impressed so far. It's exactly what I was hoping for. It is heavy, but it's extremely sturdy. I found it very easy to mount on my car and remove when I do so taking advantage of the fact it breaks into 2 pieces (which it does very easily). I'm looking forward to using it on our next outing. By the way, etrailer.com rocks! You had the best price on this rack and it was sitting on my doorstep 2 days after ordering (ordered Wed afternoon and delivered Friday). In addition, I had no issues with the packaging or the contents being damaged as a few others have mentioned in reviews. 122412

Ive owned this rack for a year now and I still love it. I would definitely buy it again if I ever had the need. Clearances are fine on my vehicle. I have no issue with the Velcro-like straps. The only issue I have is that I cant open the back of my car when bikes are loaded. But honestly, I dont find that to be a huge deal.

I was nervous buying a rack costing half as much as a premium brand. I was afraid I was buying something flimsy or cheaply built. Not the case. I took four bikes 1000 miles and it worked perfectly. It’s heeeeaaavyyy.... once you get it in the hitch, though, that’s a good thing. The bikes were secure, and it has a tightening system to hold it firmly in the hitch: there was very little wobble. I’ve never used the higher prices racks like the Kuat, so I can’t compare them. What I can say is that this rack is solid. If you can get over NOT buying the name brand, like Thule, Kuat, etc, you can save a lot of money and feel confident your bikes are safe. 681713

Just installed the 2-bike half on my hitch for the first time. The rack came in a gazillion pieces and took about an hour to set up for the first time, but I'm very happy so far. I don't have much to say that wasn't covered in other reviews but I'll note I had no problem opening the hatch on my CRV with the rack tilted down and loaded with and adult size bike. 655906

Comments
Great! Still no issues Ill note its very hard to tilt and untilt the rack with two or more bikes, but I suppose if you have 2+ bikes you should have 2+ people to help do the lifting. I still havent tried the additional 2-bike extension.

I just used this on my 2012 Honda Pilot for a road trip over 700 miles. I hauled my 29er along with my kids bikes (a 20" & a 24"). It works great for hauling different sizes of bikes together. It was rock solid and the bikes were absolutely stable and secure. It takes a few minutes to figure out the best configuration for your specific bikes when you first set it up but once you have a system its super quick and easy. This rack is heavy and solid and should last forever (except for maybe the velcro straps which do seem sufficient for now and would be easy to replace if needed). Even though it is heavy I am still able to carry it around and install/remove it by myself (5'4-130 lb woman). I love that the locks were included making this a great value. I also love that its two separate parts so I can use it as a 2 bike carrier or a 4 bike carrier when needed. Many times I am only hauling one bike and dont need a ginormous 4 bike carrier. Etrailers shipping was super fast!! The only thing I can criticize is the terrible instructions but if you look at the pictures on the box you can figure it out fairly quickly, it really wasnt difficult. Overall, I am very, very happy with this bike rack! 163356

Great bike rack, significantly cheaper than other tray-style mounts. This rack does carry a kids 16" bike (must buy the adapter from e-trailer), which is one of the reasons why we went with the Hollywood Rack. For the adult bike, we used a foam noodle on the top post to prevent damage to the gear cables. There was some paint damage to the rack that I am assuming occurred during shipping that I'll need to touch up with a can of spray-paint, but other than that, I am pleased with the rack! 616089

My husband gets frustrated very easily so imagine my surprise when this was installed with no complaints. It's very user friendly and I'm able to access the trunk without a problem. We have a Subaru outback. The bikes are secure and the rack easily adjusts to different size bikes. I love that you can adjust the rack to be smaller to carry 2 bikes. Everything about this rack is quality and easy to use. 216417

Tony,We dont have any problems. There is a bit of space from the back bumper to the beginning of the rack. My initial thought was, why do they make the rack extend out so far? Then I realized it was necessary so you can fit between the car and rack. Once its tilted we have enough clearance to open the hatch. We have a 2011 outback

thank you for the follow up. The bike hitch was delivered ahead of expectations and in good order. Given its weight the outside packaging (pictures attached) was damaged on the corners but the actual internal contents was well packaged enough that no damage to the product occurred. Have installed and used it on MTB trip already and it works great...love the optionality to have either a 4 bike to 2 bike setup. 352014

Comments
I have used the bike hitch a lot in both the 2 x bike and 4 x bike configuration. Both adult and kids bike sizes. Once you get the spacing setup loading and unloading is easy. Travels behind the vehicle really well and does not sway given the way it integrates with the locking pin system. Very happy with it.

Lets be honest, there are better looking racks. But I work at etrailer.com and can use pretty much any bike rack in the world. When it came time to go on an adventure race I chose this rack to get my teams bikes there. When we got home one of my team mates bought one because he was so impressed. When it came time to go on a 12 hour road trip with my family I chose the Hollywood. It is a star. Not a Marilyn Monroe, more of a Sylvester Stallone. The thing is solid and it works really well. It is heavy, but any 4 bike rack is going to be on the heavy side. The option to remove the 2 bike extension is nice because it makes the rack easier to handle when you only need 2 bikes. The antirattle knob snugs the rack up in the hitch super tight. Having the cable lock and hitch lock included and keyed the same makes it easy to lock the bikes up when you stop for dinner. The folding feature uses pins and clips instead of the switches found on some other racks. The pins and holes were a bit tough to get aligned at first. I had to ask my wife to lift up on the end of the rack just a hair to get the pin started. She got chain grease on her and I quickly learned that asking for her help was not a good solution to my pin alignment problem. So I grabbed my drill and a bit that was sized the same as the pin hole and cleaned out the holes. About one minute later the pin was sliding in and out perfectly and my wife will never get greasy again. In a nutshell this rack is not the lightest, not the easiest and not the prettiest, but I love it. It is easy enough to use that it is not a hassle, it locks to keep the bikes safe, is a great price for the features and it is solid, very solid. You can see in the pictures that I have used this rack extensively and it still is working great. 102588

Hi, my question is whether you have any frame damage on your biks after your long trips. Vs. going with the t2 or hold up style.

Nate, I have used the rack on a few long trips, to Colorado, Wisconsin and to our adventure race. So far there has not been any frame damage. The hook that comes down on the frame has a pretty thick pad. One of the wheel clamp racks would prevent the possibility of frame damage, but I think it will be a long time before the pad on the Hollywood wears out and it is an issue.

Great communication from seller. Fast shipping, particularly since it's free. Item arrived and was in good shape. Heavy and awkward to carry so be careful how far you have to lift it. Don't ask your wife to pick it up. Not very difficult to put together, although slowed down by cumbersome instructions with poor pictures and it took time to identify each part as the correct one. Good quality unit, although some packing styrofoam was glued to bars leaving several stretches of white, sticky goo on the upwards facing bars where the tire holders slide. Makes adjusting the tire holders more difficult. Overall a good product and handles the 4 bikes well. Will see over time how it holds up to consistent use. 105153

This rack works perfect with our 2015 Dodge Durango. I am able to lower it down and fully open the rear hatch which was the main reason I chose this rack. It is heavy, but the system to tighten it down in the receiver eliminates any play or wobble. I can load 4 bikes in less than 5 minutes!! I fabricated a bracket to also hold my kids trail-a-bike. 655410

The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE, part # HR1400Z, fits on your 2015 Honda Odyssey once you install the 2 inch trailer hitch. With that being said it may not be the best choice because when we tested it there wasn't room to open rear hatch because of the bike's handle bars. Even with the rack tilted. If you're not worried about this then the Sport Rider SE is a great choice for you. If that is important to you then I recommend the Saris Freedom, part # SA4414B. I've linked a video...

  • Recommended Lightweight 4-Bike Rack for 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe XL
Thank you for all of the great info! The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400Z is a great bike rack itself, but from all of the info you gave me I don't think it's the best option for you as it weighs in at 81 lbs in the 4-bike configuration; definitely not a very light model. Instead I recommend checking out the Hollywood Racks Destination # HR4000 which weighs in at 42 lbs which is very light for a 4-bike platform rack. This is perfect for standard bikes as it has a weight capacity...

  • Can the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack Be Used With Other Cargo Carriers
The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack part # HR1400Z is an excellent four bike rack option which has a unique feature that lets you remove the outer two bike holder and replace these with a cargo basket, the 15x52 Hollywood Racks Hitch Cargo Carrier part # HR1485. That said, you can only use this specific cargo carrier due to the design of the bike rack.

  • Best Bike Rack for 3 Standard Bikes and 1 Fat Tire Bike
The best option I have for four total bikes with one of which having fat tires is the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack part # HR1400Z with the Fat Bike Adapter Kit for Hollywood Racks Sport Rider E-Bike Rack part # HRSPRWH-F-HD. This is a great option which comes with locks for security and can adapt to fit pretty much any type of bike like fat tires bikes with the above adapter.

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for 4 Bikes on the Back of a Travel Trailer
Most bike racks, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400Z included, are not built to withstand the stresses associated with being at the back of any type of trailer or RV. But there are some that you can use. For a 4-bike rack that you can use at the back of your trailer you can use the BikeWing # B01458 which holds the bikes at the wheels. If you prefer a rack that holds the bikes at the frame the Yakima LongHaul # Y02476 is a great option. I have included links to videos for both...

  • Can Bike Rack Be Carried in Front Mounted Receiver of Motorhome on Ford E-450 Cutaway Chassis
As long as the front mounted receiver you're using has sufficient capacity to handle the combined weight of the rack (around 80 lbs as a 4 bike or 50 lbs as a 2 bike) and the bikes, it should work fine for you. Keep in mind however that carrying bikes on the front of the vehicle could block the headlights. The rack will extend roughly 46 inches from the face of the hitch, so it will be sticking out quite a bit. You don't mention what model year your E450 cutaway chassis is, but we offer...

  • Is There a Hollywood Racks Sport Rider That Works With Standard and Recumbent Bikes
The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack part # HR1400Z is compatible with bikes that have a wheelbase up to 60". That said, there is a Hollywood Racks Sport Rider specifically for long wheelbase recumbent bikes, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 Bike Rack part # HR1000Z-R which will allow you to carry one recumbent and one standard bike. That said, we don't have any options for three standard bikes and one recumbent bike.

  • Bike Rack For 2 Beach Cruisers With Fenders and A Childs Bike
I am happy to help you find the bike rack that you need for your needs. However, to make sure I get you the correct bike rack I would need to know the wheel base of the children's bike because some bike racks do not fit very small bikes. Once you get me that information, I can recommend a bike rack for you.

  • Recommended 4 Bike Platform Style Rack for a Class C Motorhome
There are only certain bike racks compatible with motorhome use because they do have more movement on the back of a large vehicle like that. It looks like you have done your homework as both of the racks you reference are compatible. The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HR1400Z is more sturdy than the Swagman XTC4 # S64665 so that is my recommendation. This rack has the welded stop and the adjustable anti-rattle to ensure the firm fit...

  • Will the Hollywood Racks SE 4 Bike Rack # HR1400 Fold Up and Clear Spare of a 2014 Jeep Wrangler
In the folded position, the closest part of this bike rack will be 6 inches away from the face of the trailer hitch receiver on the Hollywood Racks SE 4 Bike Rack, # HR1400Z. If you measure from the opening of the hitch on your 2014 Jeep Wrangler out to the furthest point out on the spare tire of your 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and the distance is less than 6 inches this rack would have enough clearance to fold up.

  • Comparing Saris Freedom 4 Bike Rack and Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 4 Bike Rack
So both the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack # HR1400Z and the Saris Freedom 4 Bike Platform Rack # SA4414B fit all of your bike styles and are both really great options so either way I think you'll be happy, but there are some key differences like you noted. A big one is weight. The Hollywood rack weighs 81 lbs as a 4 bike rack and 51 lbs as a 2 bike and the Saris weighs 53 lbs but only is a 4 bike setup. To add locks to the Saris you'd need the # SA3022 and # SA981...

  • Will a Step-Through Bike Fit the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HR1400Z
Yes, your Jamis Explorer Femme will fit and be secure on the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HR1400Z. The frame at the crank at 19 inches is not too low for the hooks. If you look at the rack closely you will see that one hook is taller than the other. What I would do is make sure that the shorter hook is put on the upright first followed by the longer one. This will ensure that the hook can go as low as it can to properly secure the step-through frame bike.

  • Can 2002 Ford F-250 Tailgate be Lowered w/Hollywood Racks HR1400 Bike Rack Installed and Arms Folded
I measured the Hollywood Racks bike rack # HR1400Z for you. The part that would most likely make contact with a tailgate is the bracket that holds the arm closest to the back of the truck. From the top of the receiver opening to the top of that bracket measures 10-7/8 inches (see picture). On your 2002 Ford F-250 lower the tailgate and measure from the top of the receiver opening on your hitch to the lowered tailgate. If less than 10-7/8 inches there won't be any interference.

  • Can Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Platform Rack # HR1400 Tilt Away to Allow Hatch Access
Yes, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Platform Rack, # HR1400Z, does offer the option of tilting the rack away from the vehicle to allow access to the hatch access but this is a 2 person job. One person is needed to pull the pin and the other to guide the rack. I have attached a video to demonstrate. The Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Rack, # S64665, does not offer the tilting option. Please keep in mind that when carrying smaller children's bikes you aren't just limited to a platform...

  • Best Bike Rack for Day 6 Bikes with Long Wheelbase
The wheel trays on the Yakima FourTimer 4 Bike Platform Rack part Y02469-FB can be moved. However, they can only accommodate a bike with a max wheelbase of 48". Therefore, I instead recommend you take a look at my personal favorite bike rack, the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack part # HR1400Z. • Is There a 4-Bike Rack That Can Carry E-Bikes
I do have an option for you but the bike rack you are looking for does not exist, four bike racks won't have a 70 lb per bike weight capacity. • Can Hollywood Rack be Used on Dirt Roads?
Thanks for the photo, that's quite the road you're traveling there. As for the Hollywood Sport Rider # HR1400Z there is not any specific information as to using it on this type of dirt road and extremely rough terrain is going to be a burden on any bike rack. That said, there are a few steps you can take which will help ease that burden, and there are a few things about the Hollywood which should hep it stand up to using it off-road. One aspect of the Sport Rider # HR1400Z that has...

  • Comparing Hollywood Racks and Curt Platform Bike Racks
For platform bike racks you really can't beat the Hollywood Rack bike racks like the # HR1400Z. These racks are incredibly solid, well-made, and reliable. I wish the same could be said for the Curt platform racks but if there's a platform rack that's going to give someone fit and finish issues it's almost always a Curt. The # HR1400Z has a rise of 7 inches built into the shank of it so it's going to have the best ground clearance for this style of bike rack as well. I attached a review...

  • Platform Bike Rack Curt 18086 vs Hollywood HR1400 Comparison
The two racks you referenced are very similar but they are two different racks made by two different companies. The Hollywood Racks part # HR1400Z uses different shaped wheel hoops that have a raised section and are a bit wider than the Curt. The Curt also has a bracket on the angled portion of the shank that's designed to connect the lower portion to the vertical portion. Aside from that and a few cosmetic differences the racks are pretty similar. I attached review videos for both...

The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # HR1400Z has a distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the wheel hoop of 7-1/2 inches. As long as you have that distance when measuring from your hitch pin hole past your spare tire, this rack will work well whether being used as a 2 bike or 4 bike rack. If you have long handlebars you will simply need to position them around the spare tire.
