We live in the UK and have a 2016 VW Beetle which we bought new for our retirement, having owned many Beetles between us over the last 55 years. For some reason neither VW or any tow bar manufacturer in the UK produces a tow bar for this last model Beetle. And then I found yourselves! I had to have the tow bar delivered to my wife's brother in Canada and then he shipped it on to us.
It was the easiest tow bar to install that I've ever done. Four bolts and your done. My only problem was the ball mount as the US ball is bigger than a UK hitch. A visit to a local trailer manufacturer ensured an excellent modification so that I could fit a UK tow ball and UK electrical wiring. It all went very smoothly and we now have probably the only late model VW Beetle in the UK with a tow bar on it!
The pictures show the tow bar with trailer tent attached and with our bike rack on it. We are delighted with it. Thank you very much to all those involved with my purchase. You've been so helpful.

Its actually nearer 2 years since we bought this tow bar and it continues to do the job magnificently. We use it more for putting the bike rack on as I do a lot of cycling. However, summer is coming and weve already booked some time away with our trailer tent. We get comments wherever we go because a late model Beetle with a towbar on it in the UK is so rare!
We bought this hitch for lugging bikes. Seems to be a very sturdy hitch. Mounting was well explained.

This is on my wifes bug and she loves it. We leave the bike rack connected to 24x7 during riding season. My only complaint is that the bike rack will hit pavement on steep slope changes, like a steep driveway. We need to hit these at an angle.
Fit like a glove. Installation was easy and just as described. Took me longer to get the tools and the car on ramp then to install it. Would definitely recommend this hitch for a VW Bug.
Everything fit perfect on my 2016 VW Convertible turbo gas bug.
I did have to take the hitch into the dealersip for installation because it was more complex than indicated on the website.

There were a few attempts and fails trying to get the right hardware package with this hitch. Took about three extra weeks to get the hardware, that matched this hitch, to me. One year later, I couldn't be more happy. I use it all the time to pull my 4x8 trailer and it has never let me down.

One year later and all is still well. Very little rust, even on the salty winter roads of Cleveland. still holding strong to the frame and absolutely no issues at all
The hitch was fairly easy to install with help from a friend, and it has worked great with the bike carrier we also purchased. Perhaps best of all was the excellent help I received from etrailer when purchasing the hitch and carrier. On their own initiative, they followed up and helped me to correct my order to make sure I received equipment that would work with my car and as a unit. Not all on-line retailers are so conscientious.
The company reached out for us to write a review. I’m not usually inclined to write reviews, but the request was heartfelt and honestly it’s a great product. My husband attached the trailer to my VW Beetle so we could trail extra luggage as we drove coast to coast. Because the car sits lows, my husband brought it to a mechanic and it was attached quickly - I think most people could attach their own, but because the beetle is so low, it was more challenging. The hitch looks great - it’s mostly hidden and it trailed our stuff for 7,000 miles with not one issue. Great product - highly recommend.
I ordered this hitch for my 2018 Beetle SE. It came yesterday afternoon and I decided to install it before dinner time. Much of my install time was spent getting my 6 inch ramps down from the attic and laying out my tools.
I used a half inch breaker bar, half inch ratchet, and a half inch torque wrench. I used a 12 inch half inch extension and 6 point 18 mm, and 11/16 sockets.
I removed the 18 mm bolt heads, and installed the furnished bolts with washer using the wire installer. I placed the hitch under the car and bolted up one side using the 18 mm bolt head bolt. Then I bolted up the other side with the same bolt I had previously removed, at the same time I threaded both wire installers for the rear bolts on both sides into the rear holes of the hitch which was hanging in place by the front bolts. I then put the washers and nuts on the rear bolts. Now everything was attached. I noticed that on the right side of the vehicle that the muffler mount was a little close to the rear edge of the hitch ( this could very from vehicle to vehicle). I grabbed a 12 mm socket and loosened the 2 bolts a couple of turns each and slid the mount away a little via its factory elongated holes, then retightened. I then torqued the hitch bolts as indicated.
My entire time was around an hour and half, probably about a half hour for hitch install and the rest getting tools, ramps, moving cars in my garage, laying cardboard under my ramps to protect my epoxied garage floor.
The hitch fit real nice and may have been the easiest I have ever installed. A second person would have been handy for lifting the hitch in place, but not at all necessary.
Replacing a TDI Sportwagen - sad to see her go, but on the bright side just got a new 2016 Beetle Dune and we are loving it. The 24922 hitch was a perfect fit. No need to modify the rear bumper cover - fit right underneath and even complimented the look. The Beelte will never be the "truck" that our Sportwagen was, but it will be alot more spunky and fun - and because of the hitch - still pretty utilitarian when it needs to be. Thanks.
etrailer exceeds expectations in nearly every way. It's that simple. Every company should have this level of customer service and product. One area for improvement would be better preparing the customer for the level of difficulty and actual type of tools (long socket vs. spanner wrench) needed for installation. Got through it fine, but it was harder than I expected. Overall very satisfied though. Great job folks! Keep up the good work.
I put this on a customer 2019 VW beetle. It was very easy to install and my customer loved it. They pulled a little camp trailer to a few different states. so it holding up very nicely and had no problems.
Worked great. Basic install on a 2016 VW beetle. Didn't even need a lift. Just a jack and some safety logs and blocks.
The hitch was for my VW bug, perfect fit and shipped on time. I would recommend etrailer to anyone!

I ordered a hitch for my new VW Beetle. It came quickly and with a receiver which I was not aware was included so Bonus! It was very easy to install and required no special tools.
The hitch fit the car with no issues. Install time was about 45 minutes. The only suggestion would be to have a 6” extension for the socket set.
A very well designed trailer hitch. Simple to install. Took about 30 minutes. Perfect fit.
Much easier install than I expected. Did it all by myself. Used a small hard sided cooler to support hitch while I secured bolts. Note that rear nut is 11/16 and not 7/16 as instructions note. Will need deep socket for that one.
