This Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver is built for smaller trailers and accessory loads that don’t need a heavy-duty setup. With a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver opening, it’s rated for 2,000 lbs maximum gross trailer weight and 200 lbs maximum tongue weight. That’s more than enough to handle light utility trailers, small campers, or cargo carriers without worry. The sturdy, square-tube design and precision robotic welds give it the solid feel you want when towing or hauling gear.
You don’t need a shop or special tools to get this hitch on. It bolts straight onto factory points with no welding required. The complete hardware kit and step-by-step instructions are included so you can tackle the install in your own driveway. Once mounted, the receiver sits in a handy position for easy attachment of drawbars, bike racks, or cargo trays.
The steel construction is fully welded and protected by a gloss black powder coat layered over a base coat for superior rust resistance. It’s designed to stand up to road grime, rain, and salt without flaking or peeling. That means your hitch stays looking good and performing strong after repeated use.
Pair it with a compatible drawbar, pin and clip (sold separately) to tow, or add a bike rack or cargo carrier for extra versatility. The receiver’s size and Class I rating make it well suited for common light-duty accessories. Whether you’re bringing a couple of bikes along or hauling your camping gear, this hitch is built to make it easy.

Product arrived bent. Was sent a nice email explaining how to unbend/get the item to fit.
To me, it seems like if I buy something that’s says it will fit, it should just fit and work. I understand it has to flex, shipping, etc, but come on. You expect every customer to bend their hitch so it can fit?
Won’t be buying from etrailer again, and don’t recommend this trailer.
Very simple installation. Remove a small segment of plastic underbody, remove factor installed brackets on hitch mounts, install new etrailer product, cut out section of plastic underbody and reinstall. I have towed light loads and the prius does just fine. This product has good welds and feels to be of high quality. I would purchase this again.
We bought this product for a long trip so that we could attach a bike rack. It's working great. Nice to have a hitch that we can depend on.
Really like the customer service from etrailer. They are so friendly and helpful.
The Curt trailer hitch receiver is well designed and easy to install. I am using it for transporting two bikes. With a 200 lb tongue weight it is perfect for two bikes and the bike rake.
This is a great and well made hitch, and easy to install.
I'm giving it a 4 star, rather than 5 star, because the cotter pin that comes with it is impossible to securely fasten with the hairpin, because the angle of the hole in the cotter pin, is such that the hairpin won't fit through without hitting the back of the hitch, the round chain holes on the bottom, or the metal plate on top. It doesn't seem secure to me, because the only way I could get the hairpin in at all was to insert it facing up with the round side down. Even then, I couldn't get it in quite all the way for the hairpin to rest on the cotter pin.
I wanted a 2 bike carrier and a hitch to fit my 2005 Prius. Etrailer provided both. When I ran into a problem installing the hitch on my car, etrailer personnel responded immediately to help me resolve it. I am very happy with the quick delivery and friendly attention to my issue. The prices were fair too.
Hitch is well made, but the install was more hassle than need be. On my Prius the mounting holes in the hitch were an aggravating 1/8th inch too narrow. Once you find the right block of wood you can lever the hitch just that much wider and get the bolts started. You might file the holes a little bit ahead of time and make the job easier. ( a lot easier), this is an easy install made harder by poor engineering. Also, the pin that holds the thing you are inserting into the hitch is misdrilled and you cannot get the clip to fully engage, crazy! ( The orientation of the clip hole vs the handle on the pin just isn't right. This is an issue as the clip is almost engaged, but not fully. I'll grind the end and imagine it will work. Again, no one is really paying attention to what they are selling you.
On the plus side, this is a pretty solid hitch. It should do the job at least as well as any other. On the minus side, this thing was an absolute nightmare to install. Curt must not use a proper jig to weld and drill because the holes were misaligned by something like 3/8 of an inch. It took me two hours and a good deal of brute force to get all four bolts in. I watched the etrailer installation video before my attempt and I did use the 2x4 trick. It helped to use a second shorter piece of wood to apply the load closer to the bolts, high on the flange.
Personally, I would tell a friend to try a different brand of hitch in hopes of an easier installation.
The hitch was easy to install, the video on etrailer web site was helpful in installing it. we bought the hitch for a bike rack , as older Priuses are quite recommended for towing but you could tow a samll light trailer.
Worked as advertised. Installation was straight forward. Instructions were sufficient. I was able to do it without assistance even though I was 77 years old. I cannot comment on the strength of the hitch as I only use it for my bike rack.
I am planning a trip to Acadia National Park this Summer and needed a 4-bike carrier for my Prius. After viewing the instructional video and reading reviews, I was convinced that the Curt hitch and Thule rack were exactly what I needed. Everything was just as easy as the video made it sound. I put the hitch and the rack on the car by myself in about an hour. I would recommend the product and this web site to anyone who asks.
Went together very well. Did some trimming to one undercarriage shield, and then trimmed it a bit more since the directions weren't quite on the mark, but easy enough with a die grinder.
Over all it was good, just had to open the bolt holes a little bit to the outside to match the hole pattern
Very satisfied with the Curt trailer hitch receiver on my 2006 Prius. Thanks to great instructions, especially the video, it was easy to install with no lift needed. The fascia fasteners on my car didn't quite match the video - 5 of the 6 fasteners were different from the others - but all were easy to remove and replace. Just returned from an 800 mile trip with 2 bikes on a new hitch rack. I used the stabilization strap and there was no bounce and very little side to side sway. Thanks etrailer!
Great resources in video installation and thorough online description. I was able to select the exact product for my vehicle without having any additional questions. I took it to my local mechanic to install and it they said it was quick and easy to put on. Look forward to now having the option for a bike rack on my vehicle.

The trailer hitch has had no issues after a year of being on my Prius and continues to be a great way to store my bike rack. It’s been steady and secure through rain or shine. If any purchasing needs in the future, I would definitely do so through etrailer.
So - the holes didn't line up side-to-side - they were off by about 3/8". I thought the product was defective. I called etrailer tech support, even though it was around 7pm Montana time, although I was sure they would be closed. To my surprise, a very nice girl named Kim answered. She said this much misalignment was very common, and I should just try "whacking" it a bit with a hammer! This I did, and very first try the holes lined up and I was able to install it smoothly. The hitch seems well made, and works great on my prius with my Thule bike rack. So: if the holes don't line up exactly, don't be afraid to get western with it a bit. Overall, satisfied with the rack, and very satisfied with etrailer.
straight forward install. More parts of the car needing to be taken off then we thought.
The trailer hitch arrived promptly intact. And it nicely fit on our Prius enabling us to use a recently purchased bike carrier.
We are satisfied with the results.

Our trailer hitch-1 year later. I am happy with the way this hitch has held up and functioned. No problem in recommending this hitch!
So far the hitch receiver has held up beautifully! As far as I know, it fit onto my Prius with no problems (I had a mechanic install it, because I didn't have any way to raise my car).
A week after installing, I drove across the country with this and a bike rack attached, with no problems of any kind. I can't ask for anything else.

No problems to report - holding up well.
I had purchase another one that the receiver butted into the crossbar and it did not allow my bike carrier to engage into it as far as I wanted it to so that it would be in tighter to the bumper. This one the crossbar welds to each side of the receiver allowing my bike carrier to have more engagement or adjustment to get the bike carrier closer to the bumper of the vehicle. The bike carrier has absolutely no movement being able to engage into the receiver deeper.

Excellent
Perfect for our bike rack.
Products seems very well-built and painted, I expect it will last for the life of the car, if not beyond. Only flaw on build is that manufacturer could have cleaned up weld splash before painting. E-Trailer could do a better job in packing item. Ends of hitch should be covered with padding (cardboard, etc) Sharp edges of heavy items will tend to blow through box. Arrived with minor scratches.
Hitch was very easy to attach, holes aligned perfectly making an install straight forward!
I have a 2008 Prius that's running strong. I love this car, but I wanted a more secure bike rake to transport my bikes. I can't believe how easy it was to find and install this tow hitch! I'm so grateful I didn't have to measure anything to retrofit it later. A friend helped me screw it on, and we were able to bend it with ease where needed. It's as sturdy as ever, and still looks great a year later.
March 2013 - '07 Toyota Prius Curt Hitch. This is my second Curt hitch from etrailer.com, and they are great products that hold up well even with the salt and sand in winter. The Prius hitch is very easy to install for a DIY'er. It takes about 45 minutes with only basic tools. The instructions are clear and the hitch lined up perfectly. This hitch is perfect for light duty or a bike rack, and is barely noticeable once installed. It is my opinion that the Curt hitch is worth the extra money as it is a very high quality product.
I placed the order on Monday and the hitch arrived on Wednesday…2 days of fasts shipping. It arrived very well packaged in this huge box.
The tutorial video was very helpful and easy. It literally took me 35 minutes to install with no problems. The screw holes aligned very well. Can't wait to use it on my next trip to our cabin in big bear. Thank you etrailer for everything. I highly recommend buying from etrailer there service is amazing.

Hitch is holding up nicely on my Prius. No complaints.
