This is a great company to do business with and very prompt in there delivery. I would recommend this company for all your trailer needs.

We are using this extension on a truck with a 8 ft bed and popup truck camper. We are pulling two horses in a 12ft steel stock trailer. The step helps for getting into the camper. The only thing that I don't like is that it adds one more sloppy joint between the trailer, but I don't think I could have the truck camper and still pull the trailer without worrying about hitting the trailer without it. Other than that, it is very well built and solid. I would buy it again for sure. I have been happy with purchasing trailer products from etrailer and will do so in the future when the need arises.

This Brophy Hitch Extender with Step worked GREAT! Allowed me to keep the tailgate on on truck down so I could load my ATV into the truck bed and still tow the trailer with stabilizer bars without banging into the trailer jack.

by:

Perfect for SUV with spare wheel mounted to rear door. Mounted on my Hummer EV SUV and it's been a game changed for towing!

by:

I recently bought a truck tent that sets up over the open tailgate. I have a bump/step that became totally useless as it was covered by the tailgate. Then I came across the ST18 extension. Now after the tent is set up, I install the extension then the bump/step itself and your able to step up and into the tent with no problems, and it's also extremely stable!

This is exactly what I needed. Being a long time RV owner, I have purchased many items from E-trailer and have never had a bad experience. Great service, product exactly as described.

  • Hitch Adapter Needed For A 2023 Subaru Outback Touring
Hey Greg, The style of hitch adapters you were looking at are either for flat towing use only or would reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50% so the best option to retain your capacity and still meet your rise and extension requirements would be to use a stacked receiver like the Gen-Y # 325-GH-305. I drew up a diagram showing the extension and spacing from receiver to receiver so you can get a better idea if this would work. If you could give me some more details on what...

  • Can a 48 Inch Long Combo Bar be Used to Make a Hitch Extender
Combo bar # 80948 is used in hitch fabrication and is not technically an extender. It has no hitch pin hole to secure to the receiver on the trailer hitch. The longest regular extender that we have for a 2 inch trailer hitch is # ST18 at 18 inches long. If you used it with a long ball mount, # EA40, then you would have a total of 32-5/8 inches of extension. Please note this will severely reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. The use of the extension alone reduces the...

  • Recommended Hitch Extension For A 3 Hitch On A 2021 Ford F-250
The 3" hitches Ford is using are throwing everyone for a bit of a loop. With that being said, I do have a couple options for you to check out. First will be the TorkLift Cannon Hitch Extension - 3" Ford Super Duty Factory Hitch # TLE1636. This will measure 32 inches long, so it is longer than you need, but it is also rated up to 3,600 pounds towing and 360 pounds of tongue weight. This jumps up to 7,200 pounds towing and 720 pounds of tongue weight when a weight distribution system is...

  • Hitch Extender for Towing Camper with Tailgate Down
Using most extenders will typically lower the tongue weight and towing capacity of the hitch by up to 50 percent, unless you're planning on using something like the Torklift Super Truss # TLE1542 you mentioned. This extender provides 42 inches of extension, but must be used with a Torklift Super Hitch that has two receiver openings. This is a pretty specialized hitch that's typically available for 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. If your truck has a 2-1/2 inch receiver hitch on it, The Reese Hitch...

  • Hitch Extender Recommendation for 7000 lb Camper
An extender like the # ST18 does provide a handy way to provide additional space between the truck and the trailer. The only down side is that using this extender will decrease the towing and tongue weight capacity of your truck's hitch by 33%. This extender itself can handle 7000 lbs towing and 700 lb of tongue weight, but your maximum capacity will be limited by the component with the lowest capacity. Given that your hitch would need a huge towing capacity in order handle the trailer...

Both are capable of up to 700lbs tongue weight and 7,000lbs trailer weight when using a weight distribution hitch. Do remember that these both reduce the capacity of the receiver on your vehicle by 1/3rd. So your hitch must have a weight rating of 1,050lbs tongue weight and 10,500lbs trailer weight to reach achieve the maximum rating for the extender. The...

For your situation, I cannot recommend you use a hitch extender like # ST18 and a longer weight distribution shank, but I do have a couple solutions for you. A hitch extender like # ST18, will not be able to support the weight of your trailer and weight distribution system. I recommend the Brophy Hitch Extender with Step # ST18. With the proper weight distribution system, this extension is rated for up to 7,000 lbs and up to 700 lbs tongue weight. The longest shank we offer is the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4600 which measures 14" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment hole. Blue Ox hitch-mount tow bars such as their Alpha # BX7380 and Avail # BX7420 can be used with a hitch extension up to 12-inches in length, part # BX88264, but Blue Ox cautions against longer hitch extensions. The potential risk is damage to the hitch receiver tube, not so much to the adapter or to the tow bar. Use of almost any extension or adapter will apply more leverage to the hitch tube, much in the same way that sliding a length of pipe over the end of a tire iron will give you more...

But if you have a 2-1/2 inch receiver the tongue weight capacity is not reduced but usually the capacity of he extension is lower than the hitch so you would go by the lower rating. • Can Truck Bed Camper Extend Past Rear Edge of Short Bed Pickup
It's really going to depend on the camper and whether it was specifically designed for a long bed truck. Some are designed to work in either a short or a long bed, but if it's been designed as a long bed only the camper's center of gravity will likely end up behind the rear truck axle. This is inadvisable because this significantly reduces the amount of weight being applied to the front truck axle which will have negative effect on steering and braking response which would be a very dangerous...
