Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

It fit perfectly on the truck had a little tough time getting the carriage bolts with the plates, but after I figured out, I had to run the wire that pulls the bolt through over top of the toe hook bolt then everything worked out just fine. I would suggest anybody using this to put one of those rubber plugs in otherwise it’ll get packed with mud and rocks. This also protects the bumper underneath the plastic filler panels !

I received the hitch on the date that etrailer said it would arrive. Instructions were easy to follow. Haven't tried it out in the field yet, but I don't think there will be any issues. Seems to be a good solid design. Winch looks good on it. Can't wait to try it out.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Installing onto my 2014 Silverado 1500 was a breeze. The only thing that caught me off guard was that I needed to cut a portion from the center of my splash guard for the rear bracket to be able to mount. I was only expecting to trim/remove the air dam as etrailer explained in the item description, which I still had to do. Other than that it was a perfect fit and I'm happy with the results. I plan to use this for a snow plow, winch, and many more interchangeable items for it.

How much did you have to cut back cover?

Dan profile picture

Dan

5/19/2015

I had to cut a portion wide enough for the rear bracket. It was probably about 8 inches long as well. I also drilled a hole where the bolt wouldve hit the splash guard due to the tight fit. It also helps with tightening of it ever got loose on me.

Dan: thanks for including the picture of your installed hitch. How much clearance is there from the ground to it? It appears very small, like 2 inches I had to guess.

Dan profile picture

Dan

10/19/2015

I would say it was the same clearance if I had kept that lower valence installed. Keep in mind my Silverado is the commercial version with no front level kit or anything. So it has a good amount of rake which gives the impression of no front clearance. As far as actual clearance I couldnt really guess a number. I have had one or two scrapes going into steep driveways but nothing major.

2016 Chevrolet Suburban

I installed this front hitch by myself on a 2016 Chevy Suburban in about 3.5 hours with no floor jack. I use it to carry my mountain bikes when we are towing the trailer. The hitch sits 8.25” off the ground and extends out past the air dam about 3.5”. Once installed, the hitch is not very noticeable.

A couple notes on the install:

1. The most difficult part is figuring out where to make the hole in the splash shield for the rear mounting point. I removed the splash shield and determined roughly where to cut a 1.5” hole based on the existing holes in the cross member.
2. To cut the air dam, I drilled small holes the the corners then used a utility knife to score and cut out the section.
3. I mounted the rear point first which gave me leverage to install the front easier.
4. The tape method for the 9/16 hardened washer and cone washer did not work for me. I had to finagle them into position as I was tightening the bolts (huge pain)
5. I had 4 extra 9/16 hardened washers. These are apparently supplied in case you need additional washers to fill the gap in the frame.

I am very satisfied with this product and would definitely recommend it to others.

2019 Chevrolet Tahoe

The front mount hitch fit my 2019 Tahoe perfectly. Was able to install it myself with the help of a floor jack. (took about 1 hour) Had to remove the splash shield and drill a 1 1/2" hole so the bolt in the crossmember could go through, but this was not a problem. Had to trim just a little of the air dam for clearance around the receiver. After installing I had 8 1/2" clearance. The attachment is for surf fishing rods and bait/fish cooler.

by:

Bought this for my 2014 Sierra 1500 so I could push my trailer into my side yard. Worked like a charm. Installation instructions were great and couldn’t be happier with the product. Had to cut a little of the air dam down below. Ended up cutting out more than I needed, but overall it looks fine. I did have to cut a hole in the splash shield (skid plate) as well so I could run the bolt through to the crossmember. Other than that it was a piece of cake!

2017 GMC Yukon XL

Over all the hitch is well constructed, the only negative is the nut plates, they are not wide enough to lock against the chassis you must tight them little by little if not nut plates will spin inside of the chassis bins. But in general I feel very confident with this item. I used to carry my dirt bike

Fit my 2015 Silverado perfectly. Shipping super fast. Customer service perfect as always. Love etrailer! I did have a friend of mine install it, who owns a shop, just because I wanted it done quick and easy. Be warned...it is heavy!

by:

The receiver sits to low. Not sure why they don't go back to the drawing board and design one that would sit directly behind the front license plate. put a front plate receiver in with the tag to cover it, remove it when in use. Then it would be at a much better height for a cooler rack with out having to use a raised adapter.
Overall it does alright, but good luck getting the plastic defector back on over the back mount. If I had know it was going to be that much of a pain I would have gotten the one without the middle back strap support.

Works well enough. Would be nice if they offered one that went through the bumper centered behind the tag mount. That way it wouldn’t ride so low on a stock height silverado

2016 GMC Sierra 1500

I bought this hitch to help move my boat around easier. Here are a few tips for a smooth install. First, remove the splash guard, locate the cross member hole on the guatd then make a hole the same size as the spacer washers, I used a dremel with a cutting burr for this. Started small then gradually increased the size of the hole based on the bolt location using the washer as a template.. Then reinstall the guard.
The next step if carefully done will only take a couple minutes, I struggled but here is what works best. When you insert the bolt with the fish, do it towards the front of the truck and don't go very far! If you go towards the back, the cross tube will prevent the bolt from dropping through the plate. If you go in too far forward you risk getting hung up on the frame bolts. I am speaking from experience.
Lastly, use the hardened washers that are just thick enough to be flush with the frame , I used 2.
I hope this helps. I would have given 5 stars but the instructions were a little difficult to follow.

Still very happy!

by:

Not at all happy with this product. It sets below the air dam creating a problem with curbs and parking bumpers. Now I need a 2" lift for my truck to regain the ground clearance that I had before installing the hitch. I will be out approximately $600 for the lift. I trusted etrailer to get me the correct part for my truck. I wish they would have told me I would loose 2" of ground clearance.

We do show installed photos above that illustrate where the receiver sits in relation to the vehicles front bumper. Of the two hitches available for your truck, the Draw-Tite # 65064 offers the most ground clearance.

Perfect fit for my 2017 Silverado 1500. Only had to trim a small piece of the valance. did need a younger able bodied son to hold it in place while I finger tightened nuts in place (hint: attach rear of hitch first, then if you or your help tires it can hang in place till you have regained vigor and strength). It took us about 1 hour and a half start to finish. Looks good.

Easy enough to install. Splash guard and facia needed some trim/courting. Instructions for "detail a" about washers should be aware that cone washer does not sit directly on 9/16 washers but as later shown on the base of the unit itself.

5 3/4" road clearance.

I finally got to use it to reposition my trailer in a tight spot. Being closer to the front greatly adds to the manuverability. Just knowing I now have this adding feature makes it worthwhile.

This is the third hitch I've purchased from E-Trailer. I have one on the front of my Ambulance converted camper. I carry a Honda MB-5 or two bicycles when we go boating or camping. I also bought one for the rear that I use to tow the boat or our two 4wd ATV.
I also have one on the front of our 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab so we can take our bicycles to Arizona for the Winter.
They are perfect in every way and quite cost effective. Th one on the GMC was a perfect bolt on, as was the one for the front of my Ford chassis Ambulance. The rear was modified to fit. That was expected with the unique application.
I love this company. I 've bought hitches, trailer tires and camper accessories and they are the best. Delivery is lightning fast and shipping has been free. Technical advice is always spot on and friendly.
Thanks E-Trailer Staff. You have a life long customer,

Christian

2014 GMC Sierra

Price, shipping, and service was good. Installation information provided was not as good. It states no drilling and 30-minute installation. That depends on what splash guard and equipment you have. Come to find out, there are at least four different ones for the 2014 Sierra 1500 and mine is the biggest with no hole at the cross-member to mount the hitch. The splash guard had to be removed, then I had to determine where I needed to cut out a section to mount the rear of the hitch, cut it out, run the bolt through the cross-member, and re-install the splash guard. Ramps and floor jack are pretty much a must. Two hours later and we are good to go. In the end, it was worth it.

by:

I absolutely love the front hitch. It makes it so simple to push my boat to the dock and launch and reload it to return to my driveway. It' like pushing a grocery cart using the hitch. You can see everything that 's in front of you. We have a circular drive to our boat garage and the hitch just makes it perfect for getting down the driveway and into the garage. My wife never did like to launch the boat but she can do it now because she can see in front. Great product. There are a lot of people out there that do not know about the front hitch. I even installed it myself and I'm 77 years old. It's great. I'll never be without it.

by:
GMC Sierra

Excellent hitch. This is the third one I've owned and wouldn't be without a front hitch. I maneuver a boat in a sharply curved driveway into a tight shelter, couldn't possibly do it with only a rear hitch. Installation was easy on my GMC Sierra as it was one my previous Chevy trucks. This GMC has the all-terrain package so I needed to put it up on a lift to cut a hole in the plash pan (plastic) for the rear bolt. Feeding front bolts into the frame is super easy. Cutting the necessary slot in the facia (air dam) is no problem.

by:
2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The hitch is great, but it is too low to the ground. It actually hits the ground on the slightest incline and I have to be careful to take any grade at an angle. I am a design engineer and own a fabrication / manufacturing business and do see no problem with the hitch being 2 to 3 inches higher. Not at all. Thanks...Norm
