Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

I purchased both the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs - C16120, and Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - Qty 4 - RP58093 for my F350 SD 4X4 Crew Cab Long Bed. I'm pulling a 30' Retro 5th. Wheel and at times I pull my tandem axle UTV Trailer (Double Trailers) . I already had the rails installed in my truck, this fit right in and I used the new Pins and Lock Plates for securing to truck. I have pulled all over from South Dakota and the Northwest. The Hitch has performed Flawlessly. No bucking, nor clunking. Very quiet and smooth ride. I would recommend this set up to anyone for convenience of Hook up and Disconnect, Excellent towing, quiet, and the security of the lock pins. I use Disc locks to prevent access for bolt cutters.

Comments
Excellent! Still working as it did on day one. Very solid, easy to use, and the unit is very quiet. Also no chucking. I highly recommend this product to anybody. We now have 2020 Cameo 12,000# unloaded weight. Pulls perfectly.

Extremely pleased with the rails and hitch purchased from etrailer! The video and printed directions were very informative. One caveat though, the bolts inside the frame on the custom kit (2017Chevy 2500hd) are tough, 2 people are needed. We used magnet rods. The hitch(Curt A16) is great but the shipping was FANTASTIC. Ordered on 4/29 and received on 5/1. 2 days!!! Thank you Jane S. and etrailer!!

I was fully expecting a hitch in excess of 100 pounds to show up in a destroyed box. This did not. They had taken the Time and effort to cover the box with an additional layer of cardboard and it must have had a million staples in it. It was almost comical, you will need a crowbar or large screwdriver to get it open. However, when I did finally get the package open I found a perfectly un scratched hitch with no missing parts. I have not pulled with the hitch yet but , it does look like it is going to perform great. I'm using this in a 2006 ram 2500 4x4 short bed pulling a 2015 forest river Salem and it allows 91 degrees of turning due to the clipped corners on the front cap of the trailer. I will be curious to see how long the rubber isolators last before needing replaced and if they are readily available. Also the curt sticker on the hitch was peeling off when I took it out of the box, would be nice to get that replaced.

Comments
Could not be happier with this hitch. Have never had any coupling or uncoupling problems even in odd angle situations. Does not rattle or let the trailer chuck around. Easy to move. In and out of the truck. The powder coating is fading and showing some signs of surface rust but this is most likely due to it living in the truck unprotected. I have since moved the hitch into a 2017 ram 2500 with the puck system. I bought the puck mount and every thing bolted up nicely. I keep the standard rail legs under the bed of the fifth wheel should I ever need to pull with a truck that doesn’t have pucks. This has happened once when our truck broke down. Would definitely recommend this hitch.

We're glad to hear you're happy with your purchase! A light coat of a quality car wax will help protect the finish from the elements.

Installation of the Curt C16443-204 custom rail kit was a snap on my 2000 F350 dually. The instructions were pretty generic but not to hard to figure out. Once in place it was easy to line line everything up to fit the hitch in and tighten everything down.

It was easy to install and very solid, i towed my 16,000 5th wheel and it road very nice

Purchased this hitch, install kit, and wiring harness for a new to me 2015 F-250. After watching the installation video and reviewing the included instructions the install went smoothly. The only deviation from the instructions was instead of using a unibit to drill the 9/16" holes in the bed I used a Rotobroach hole cutter(the holes are cleaner and the bit does not drift. I hooked in to my fifth wheel for the first time on Saturday.

- C16120

This is my first fifth wheel hitch. Been using it for about a year now. It was easy for me and a buddy to install(took about 3 1/2 hours) onto my 2017 Ford F250 and I'm not the handiest man on earth. It works great and was about half the cost of, say the B and W hitch. Not complicated at all to hitch up and go. My camper is only about 8800 pounds vs the 16,000 lbs rating of this hitch so I can't speak to its weight limit. I am very happy with it and would definitely recommend it.

Works every time. Great factory help when I had an issue on installation. Love the color coded hook up and un hook on the rear of the hitch.....you cannot go wrong with this system and it has great quality ....

The hitch was simple to install. I also purchased the custom brackets to bolt the rails to the frame. Everything lined up exactly as it should. No drilling on the frame!!! I will review the hitch once I get more use out of it. It looks great though.

Easy to shop, great prices and prompt delivery. Will be using etrailer a lot as we enter the rv world. The Custom rail installation kit and Curt 16k hitch are great on my 2016 Silverado 2500hd

Easy install great product love the interlocking jaws I can’t wait to tow with it thank you E trailer for a great used part well worth it with one little scratch on would buy a used product from etrailer anytime

- C16120
by:

Dirt gets into where the rubber bushings are and it makes a lot of squeaky noise. Also it is difficult to lock and unlock it. When we are pulling it rocks our RV a lot more than our previous hitch. We have travel friends with the same hitch and they have also complained about the rocking. Thank you for following up.

Great hitch, easy to use and I really like the green, yellow and red. I know its connected correctly then.

It work great. Easy to back up into if the trailer and truck are tilted away from each other. I like it so much I had my daughter buy the same one for her truck.

My Curt A16 hitch came promptly and was very well packaged without any damage. Installation on the rails was easy as there is good tolerance in the connections. Removing the two main separate components took some patience and I recommend silicone spray on rubber parts for continued attachment/detachment. This particular hitch was very stiff and it helped to spray the jaws liberally with silicone/WD-40 and apply a couple strokes of grease. This is a rather simple, strong hitch. It closes very tight on the kingpin and towing over rough roads gives very good control. Being able to remove the top part of the hitch is a very strong advantage. Pay close attention to the directions for hookup in that alignment requires the RV hitch to be just below the top of the hitch plate. Initially unhooking was a bit challenging for me as I was used to a previous slide bar hitch and the Curt does not spread the jaws all the way open. It does unhook well after limbered up a bit. I do recommend you periodically apply some good quality car wax to protect the finish.

Unit appears solid and well built. Unit feels and appears well built. Nothing about the craftsmanship seems cheap or shoddy. Everything that moves is crisp and tight. There are no rattles or loose components. I feel confident towing with this hitch. If I have not towed with it yet. The hitch has a sleek strong appearance as opposed to my Superglide on a previous truck that took up a lot of bed space. I had to assemble the unit. Instructions seemed unclear in regard to the handle assembly. With deliberate inspection, I was able to figure it out. Legs were easy to bolt on with assistance. I am happy with this hitch. Website said I needed to purchase a line plate separately. I forgot to get one but it didn't matter because one (plastic disk) was included with the hitch. I paid for the shipping upgrade to ensure the hitch arrived before hurricane Mathew. I placed my order at night and eTrailer provided me with a tracking number the following morning. Shipping time said 3-5 days. I ordered late night on a Monday and unit arrived on Thursday afternoon. I'm very satisfied with my purchase and experience with this website.

Comments
After a year, I love this hitch. It’s easy to hook up and unhook unlike the auto slider hitch it replaced. Paint is still good. Silver stuff is still silver. Has a small patch on the head where the camper hitch slides on. Unit performs well. It is quiet during turns. I feel safe using it. I will buy a curt hitch again if ever I need a new one.

Customer service for product selection and order entry were excellent and focused on my interests and needs. The hitch, custom installation kit, and harness were shipped very quickly and arrived sooner than expected. Everything arrived in excellent condition. Assembly and installation instructions were very clear and specific, and I was able to assemble and install everything with no problems and in a very reasonable amount of time. Total cost was roughly half of what it would have been if I had purchased the products and had them installed by a dealer. I am very satisfied with my experience dealing with etrailer.com, and would highly recommend them to anyone shopping for towing products.

The only problem I encountered was with UPS. First, they ignored a request not to deliver early and second they left my hitch on the porch where it was rained on.... The Curt Hitch was exactly as promised and the earliest installation I have done in a long time. It was simple and quick to install and fit my existing rails without a hitch (no pun intended). It will be a couple of weeks before I will be able to test it but it is a great looking hitch and looks like it will live up to all the reviews. etrailer shipped this quick! I received notification that it would be delivered the next day and I did not purchase one day service and assumed it would not be delivered until after the holidays. The is the reason I contacted UPS and paid to have the service date changed, which UPS ignored and delivered anyways. I strongly recommend etrailer and will be using them again in the future.

Mechanics had some issues installing on Ford 2019 F250 - so cost me a little more but looks nice now done. etrailer staff member very knowledgeable, and item arrived sooner than expected which allowed me to get it installed sooner. Can't wait to hook it up to my new (to me) 2013 Forest River Wildwood Heritage Glen 37 ft 5th wheel trailer. I like that this hitch is lighter than others - I am 60 yr. woman so weight is issue when moving it to use truck for other uses. I can unlock it and move to front of bed and use the rest without someone else's help.

Easy to assemble. Fit right into rails from old E16 roller hitch. Haven't towed yet. Watching you tube video makes install go much smoother.

Comments
Product is much better than E16. Truck doesnt chuck like it used to due to way jaws clamp around kingpin. Only caveat is that we had to raise the horse collar one bolt hole higher to get trailer ride height perfect.

Ask the Experts about this Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch

  • Is a Dual Jaw System Better Than a Slide Bar System for a 2018 Ram 2500 Without Pucks
You are absolutely right! The slide bar design you have now is a good entry level setup but as you mentioned there is a good amount of chucking and jarring that is associated with this. The reason for this is because there is just a flat edge against the round kingpin which works but does not produce the best ride. The dual locking jaws are going to do a much better job of holding the kingpin tighter which translates to minimal chucking and jarring. For your 2018 Ram 2500, I recommend...

  • Would Curt A16 Fifth Wheel Hitch Have Capacity for 10k Dry Weight Fifth Wheel Trailer
The Curt A16 fifth wheel hitch part # C16120 has a 16k capacity so it would pretty easily handle the weight of a 10k fifth wheel trailer. This is a really nice fifth wheel hitch that was recently updated by Curt. We have found that our customers really like it so I would recommend it highly for you. I attached a review video for this hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Can Curt A16 Fifth Wheel Hitch Be Used with Reese Revolution/Sidewinder Pin Box
The Curt A16 Fifth Wheel Hitch # C16120 will work well with your Reese Revolution pin box. The wedge you'd then want for the Revolution that's designed for this hitch is the part # C16992. With this setup you would have great turning clearance.

  • Replacing Atwood Freedom Fifth Wheel Hitch
I have a replacement option but unfortunately we do not carry any replacement parts for Atwood fifth wheel hitches. Since Atwood hasn't produced that hitch in a while parts are pretty few and far between. If your hitch is currently not useable I recommend replacing the hitch with a newer option like the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16120. If you can provide the Year/Make/Model of your vehicle and if you have above bed or below bed rails, I would be happy to recommend a new...

  • Comparing the Curt Q16 and Pro Series 16K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches
The Curt Q16 5th wheel trailer hitch # C16120 is a great option. It has the dual jaw like you want and the head pivots front to back and side to side. This hitch is also cushioned for a smoother ride and the 3-point indicator system lets you know if you are hooked up properly or not. It also comes with a lube plate attached to the head. This is the hitch I would go with. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you. The Pro Series hitch # RP30047 is also a good entry level hitch....

  • Is it Possible to Adjust Jaws on Curt Q16 5th Wheel Hitch
I spoke with my contact at Curt about your Curt Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # C16120, and he said a little play is to be expected in order for the pin to rotate freely. So the jaws should not fit too tightly around the king pin. The jaws are operated by springs. The first time you used your 5th wheel hitch the springs may have been a little stiff. By the second time you used the 5th wheel you likely loosened up the springs and the jaws, resulting in the play you noticed. Also if...

  • Does the Articulating Head of the Curt Q16 5th Wheel Hitch Move 360 Degrees
The articulating head of the Curt A16 Fifth Wheel Hitch, # C16120, can move front to back and side to side which is as close to a true 360 degree movement of any 5th wheel hitch available. I have attached a review video of this hitch for you to check out. The fifth wheel hitch does not come with a wiring kit, but if you want to add a fifth wheel wiring harness, I recommend the Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Harness, # 41157. Based on your previous orders, it looks like you have a 2006...

I have linked a picture with measurements of the industry standard rail dimensions for you to reference. I have linked the above mentioned product to this page for your purchasing convenience.

  • How to Reduce Chucking when Towing 5th-Wheel Trailer without Replacing Trailer Pin Box
There are a couple of ways other than replacing the pin box on your trailer that can help to reduce the chucking you are experiencing. First, I simply recommend checking to make sure the tongue weight of your trailer is around 10-15 percent of its total loaded weight. If the tongue weight is too light, this can lead to chucking issues. You can simply redistribute some of the cargo in the trailer in order to put more weight up front. Another option is the fifth-wheel trailer hitch...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for 2018 Ford F-150 5-1/2 Foot Bed and Grand Design Reflection 150 Series
The Lippert Turning Point pin box on your trailer means that you will need a fixed 5th wheel hitch for your 2018 Ford F-150. The Curt A16, # C16120, is a great option for you. This hitch is rated at 16,000 pounds, so it has plenty of capacity for the Grand Design 150 series of trailers. The dual jaw design is safe and secure and the cushioned head improves ride quality. For the best fit with your Turning Point pin box I also recommend using custom wedge # C16992. For an installation...
