Forged, Self-Latching Jaw

Self-Latching Jaw

The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.

The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.

Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.

Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Pivot Bushings

In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.

King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning

King Pin Indicator

This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.

Easy-to-Use Latching Handle

Lever and Hitch

This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

Tried to install this on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500, dual rear wheel, long bed, 4x4, diesel engine truck. The clamp style mounting simply does not work. The ONLY way I can see this working is by drilling added holes in the frame of the truck at the front end of the side plates. This is because of a bend in the frame at the clamp location. Also at this location the frame is boxed in and any bolt holes will be hidden. Bolts would have to fished in with bolt wires.

I see that you are stuck on some parts of this installation. I have gotten in contact with one of our technicians and they had mentioned that you should be able to find what you need in the instructions on page 5. https:www.reeseprod.comproduct-assetsinstallN30926.pdf

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Reese M5, a major improvement over my old receiver. Great service from etrailer as well.

Just received yesterday, will be having it installed on Monday and will be pulling my new camper home next Saturday. Will update afterwards with pics

Still works good, but every once in a while it dosent want to latch around the kingpin.

by:

I love it. It’s very easy for me to setup. The only issue i had was rge breakout away cable snapped in have and i was not able to find a replacement. I had a friend who was able to make me another one.

by:

Great product, shipped in really good time, etrailer was excellent in communication, only small problem was package was damaged in transit, and my item had some pretty bad scratches on it. But when I notified etrailer of this they gave me a choice of shipping it back in exchange for a new one or giving me a nice credit back if I could live with the scratches. I choose the latter and I thought it was great that they gave me the choice.

by:

I had to return this hitch as it was unusable due to manufacturing defects. etrailer honored the return and refunded me completely.

by:

Great quality, worked perfect and easy to use. I was so happy with it that I transferred it to my new vehicle. I would recommend this to a friend.

by:

by:

Great hitch. Easy to use and pulls my 40ft rig like a champion!

by:

The order before I received this one, I do not understand why you would ship two products that would not work together although I ordered them wrong, with out letting me know before it was shipped. I didn't know that my order was wrong until I went to install it in my truck. It cost me time and money.

I see our customer service team is working on sending you the missing parts, but I am sorry you are having to go through all this when it should have all been delivered together. Thanks for giving us the chance to make it right.

by:

This went well also. Only thing that could have been better is the grease (lube) information. To this day, I still don't know what parts to lubricate or where or with what.

Etrailer Expert

Well that would be some good information to know! I am getting that added to our site for future reference. You will need to use engine oil to lubricate pivot points of moving parts within the hitch.

by:

Easy install, visual confirmation pin is locked into 5th Wheel, and no more chucking when pulling trailer.

by:

Always polite and know exactly what you need for your application. Tim was a pleasure to work with.

by:

Loved the product, hated the installation instructions

by:

I've only just got it installed and as of yet have not tested it under load. Hope to pick-up and tow my RV back home this weekend. I will update My review when I return.

Got expert advice from David B Everything arrived and put on today. Worked beautifully

by:

2 of the 3 boxes arived the day before it was scheduled to arrive. The 3rd box arrived the next day as scheduled. The qr code on the head did not work, it took me to a 404 error page on the Reese site.

  • Options for Leveling a Nose High Fifth Wheel Trailer With Limited Bedrail to Overhang Clearance
You have 2 options, the generally acceptable range for bed-rail to trailer overhang is 4-6 inches so you could lower your trailer nose by raising the pin box on the trailer, or lower the head of your hitch, but you will be right at the minimum height so you would have to be extra cautious on elevation changes while driving. Or, you can raise the trailer to get the trailer to sit level without reducing clearances. You can do this by moving the axles from being above the leaf springs to...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit Recommendations for a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 Short Bed
First, you are right about installation kit # RP56001-53 being the easiest custom kit to install on your 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 short bed. Because of that I highly recommend it. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. As far as height goes for a hitch, most all 5th wheel hitches are height adjustable but on many slider hitches you cannot use the lowest setting because it would interfere with the sliding mechanism. Ideally you will want 5 or 6 inches from the tops of...

  • Will a Reese Revolution/Sidewinder Allow a Ram Truck with Rambox to Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
Yes, a Reese Revolution or a Sidewinder pin box replacement would allow you to tow your 2014 Montana fifth wheel with your 2015 Ram 2500 that has the Ramboxes and a short bed. The Revolution/Sidewinder puts the pivot point up higher so that the pin box would not hit the Ramboxes as you turn. Also this give you the ability to make tight turns without having to have a slider hitch so it basically is a win/win solution for your truck. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need...

  • Will a Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Fit a Curt Installation Kit on a 2014 Ram 2500 Crew Cab
Yes, you can use a Reese 5th wheel trailer hitch in the Curt rails included with installation kit # C16427-104 for your 2014 Ram 2500 Crew Cab. The rails will accept Curt, Pro Series, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese, and Valley 5th wheel trailer hitches that fit in above the bed rails. If you have a short bed Ram then you are going to need a slider 5th wheel trailer hitch such as # C16546 which is rated up to 24,000 pounds. For a long bed, the Reese M5 hitch # RP30928, will fit as well.

  • Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch & Lippert Turning Point or Sidewinder Pin Box
The Andersen Ultimate Connection 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch System, # AM3200, has specs that state "Will not fit beds shorter than 6'." In addition, this hitch should be used with only fixed pin boxes, so your Lippert Turning Point or an equivalent pin box, such as the Sidewinder can not be used with this hitch. Consider the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30047 for 16,000 lbs. Or the # RP30928 for 20K.

  • Can a Single Attachment Point B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch be Used with a Sidewinder Pin Box
You actually shouldn't be using a B&W Companion hitch with a Sidewinder at all. The problem is because of the single attachment point and the force applied to the hitch from the Sidewinder it could cause the gooseneck hitch under the bed to get damaged or even break free causing the whole assembly, including the Companion, to rotate. The only difference between the regular Companion and slider is that the slider can slide back to allow more clearance between the truck and trailer when...

  • Do Jaws on Fifth Wheel Hitch Make A Difference in Hitch Quality for 2016 Ram 2500 Long Bed
The jaws on a trailer hitch do make a big difference in terms of the quality of the hitch, and though that is not the only factor it is certainly an important one. Like any product, fifth wheel hitches come in different styles and price points, with the higher-quality hitches with robust jaw systems often a more premium option in terms of cost. Your Pro Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch PS30119 is a fine option and many people use these for years and are perfectly happy with it, but its dual-jaw...

  • How to Determine if a 1976 Ford F-250 Can Tow a Fifth Wheel Trailer
Whether or not you can tow a certain fifth wheel with your truck will depend on the weight of the trailer and the capacities of the truck. I couldn't find any info on the towing capacities for your truck due to the age but if you still have the owners manual it should be listed there. For fifth wheel rails you would need the part # RP30035 which is a universal rail kit confirmed to fit your truck. For a fifth wheel hitch then you would want the part # RP30928 for a 20k hitch.

  • Does Bed Length Matter When Towing a Bumper Pull Boat Trailer
Bed length isn't normally a big issue for towing a trailer at the rear of a vehicle with a trailer hitch. You would not notice any significant ride quality issues going from one bed length to the other for your 2015 Toyota Tundra. If you were towing a fifth wheel trailer like with the part # RP30081 then a longer truck bed is definitely preferred as it allow better turning clearances without hitting the cab of the truck.

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch Options For 2015 Ram 2500 Truck With Short Bed
With the size of your new trailer I recommend a Sidewinder to replace the pin box. You can use the formula to calculate the distance you would get with a sliding fifth wheel hitch versus a Sidewinder, that will let you execute a 90 degree turn. The formula is (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab. (since you do not have a fifth wheel installed you can measure from about 1 or 2 inches in front of the center of the axle) B = Length of Sidewinder...

Sidewinder pin boxes such as # RP61412 are not compatible with the Curt 20K hitches. There isn't a wedge designed to fit those Curt hitches. I have an even better solution for you though. If the gross trailer weight is under 13,000 pounds then you can use the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 13,000 lbs - # DM8550040. • Availability of Cushioned Fifth Wheel Hitch
We do have hitches that have cushioning built into the heads to provide a smoother ride quality like the Reese M5 part # RP30928 but what really makes the difference for a smooth towing experience is a tight jaw design like this hitch has. When the jaws of the hitch are really tight to the king pin the ride quality is the smoothest. This is a bigger factor than cushioning when in comes to overall ride quality.

From what I could find in an online manual it looks like your 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD is rated for up to 18,000 lbs. You will want to verify this with your owner's manual to make sure that you can safely tow your trailer. Since the 2017 Vanleigh Vilano 365RL is rated for a GVWR of 16,000 lbs you will be able to safely pull it since you will have about 2,000 lbs of cushion. The best option for towing a 5th-wheel trailer with your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado with a 5-1/2 foot bed is to use a fixed 5th-wheel trailer hitch along with a Reese Sidewinder Rotating Pin Box. With a 5-1/2 foot bed, a sliding trailer hitch may not have enough room to slide the necessary length to provide enough turning clearance without coming into contact with your truck's tailgate.
