Video Transcript for Review of Erickson Electric Winch - ATV - UTV Winch - EM34EV

Hello, neighbor, Steve here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at our Erickson ATV Series Winch with a Wire Rope and a Roller Fairlead, rated at 3,000 pounds. So, folks, this is gonna be a great ATV for recovery, the winch rather for ATV recovery, and for recreation standard-duty work application. So, maybe a 350cc to 700cc utility quad, a four by four, those kinda things. And it does have a nice one horsepower permanent magnet motor that's gonna deliver amazing power, both fast and safe, and it is lighter and uses a lot less current than those typical series-wound motors. It has been sealed to keep out water and prevent internal corrosion, and it has sealed contactor that's gonna transmit power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor.

It usually mounts under the ATV's front cover or hood with the included hardware, and again, you get all the different colored wires here to match up to the motor, and then going up from there to the switch and everything, and then to the battery to finish off for the install. Now, it does use a mechanical brake that's automatic, so it's gonna hold 100% of the load, while minimizing winch creep. Now, it is an all-steel, three-stage planetary gear system, and that gear train's gonna provide increased drum speed compared to your typical one or two-stage models out there on the market. Now, it does come with a rocker switch here for going in and out. That would mount to this bracket, and then to the handle bar of that ATV or side-by-side or whatnot, or possibly the roll cage or a windshield or something.

And it does use a cam-free spooling option as well, so you can do the free-pull here by simply turning the red knob here. That'll let you have a fast rope payout, and also reduce wear and tear on the motor by not having to use it to go backwards. The wire on here is a nice 3/16 inch diameter zinc-plated wire rope. It's super strong and abrasion-resistant. It's 50 foot long in total length, and it's an aircraft grade galvanized steel cable.

They also give you a 1/4 inch thick steel clevis hook, and nylon hand-saver strap, and that gets put onto the end of the winch wire there. And give you a nice heavy-duty steel roller fairlead. And as you know, the wire goes through here, and that just keeps the wire from rolling and not getting snagged on anything else. Everything's got a nice black powder coat finish over a steel body and motor, and on top of that, a nice clear anodized finish to help reduce that corrosion and rust and stuff over time as well. Now, some people have told us on reviews and stuff that, "Hey, I needed to create a custom solution of a mount to mount this to the ATV and also the fairlead to my ATV." That's perfectly normal.

This is just a universal winch. It's not really made specifically for a specific vehicle. That being said, as far as the two-bolt pattern on the bottom, you've got center-to-center long ways, about 4 7/8 center-to-center, and if you go up and down here, it's three inches center-to-center on that mounting hole. Overall side-to-side, the winch is about 12 5/16 inches long, about four inches tall, and on the base, I got about 4 5/16 width overall on the whole winch assembly. Now, this does use a 12 volt DC motor, and it does have a gear ratio of 171 to one, and it has a line speed of about 3 1/2 foot per minute. So again, folks, a nice winch. The whole thing when it's assembled weighs about 20 1/2 pounds, give or take, and the manufacturer recommends a battery size for max power of 650 cold cranking amps. Well, folks, that's gonna wrap it up. This is the Erickson 3,000 pound-rated ATV Series Winch. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.
