Specs:
This Cub 4s UTV recovery winch is designed for standard-duty work and recreational applications. It's perfect for your 300cc - 850cc UTV, ROV, or MOHUV with a maximum GVW of 2,000 lbs. The hand-held rocker switch lets you control the winch from the seat of your UTV. The motor, gearbox, and contactor are sealed for water resistance. The winch also includes dual brakes to ensure reliable load holding, a synthetic rope, and a hawse fairlead.
This winch features a 1-horsepower, 12-volt DC motor with 4,000 lbs of line pull. The permanent magnet motor offers the same line-pulling power and speed as a series-wound motor of comparable size, but it's lighter and uses less current. The motor is sealed to keep out water, and it's constructed of durable, corrosion-resistant materials including the powder coated housing, copper battery terminals, and zinc-plated steel hardware.
The contactor transmits power from the UTV's battery to the winch motor and to the hand-held rocker switch. It will typically be mounted in a convenient location near the UTV's battery box using the included hardware.
The 250-amp contactor is sealed to meet IP68 specifications for water and weather resistance. The copper terminals and carbon steel hardware are also corrosion resistant.
The free-spool clutch enables you to pull out the rope by hand. This saves battery power, prevents the brake from wearing down prematurely, reduces wear on the motor, and is much faster than waiting for the drum to power out the rope. To release the clutch for free-spooling simply rotate the red plastic knob 90 degrees clockwise. To reengage the clutch, rotate the knob 90 degrees counterclockwise. The white arrow on the knob indicates if the clutch is in the engaged or disengaged position.
The clutch is driven by a 3-stage planetary gear train. This provides more speed than traditional worm gear drives or 1- or 2-stage gear trains.
This winch includes both a mechanical brake and a dynamic brake. This dual braking system provides a physical brake inside the drum and supplemental braking force generated by the winch motor. The 2 brakes operate simultaneously to ensure more reliable load holding when compared with single-brake UTV winches.
The automatic mechanical brake securely holds a load and prevents unintentional payout (or creep). When the winch motor is stopped, a large spring coil inside the drum expands to press against the spring chamber. The pressure of the spring on the wall of the spring chamber creates resistance that prevents the drum from rotating. This spring contracts when the winch is in gear to allow the drum to rotate.
When the winch is pulling the rope in or paying it out, the motor is not applying resistance to the drum. When you stop powering the rope in or out, the dynamic brake uses resistance from the motor to help hold the load.
The hand-held rocker switch lets you operate the winch from the seat of your UTV. It includes an 8' wiring harnesss with quick connects. There is also a wireless remote kit (CU881286 - sold separately) that lets you control the winch from up to 100' away.
The synthetic rope is made of 12-strand Dyneema SK75 fiber that is lightweight yet stronger than steel. This synthetic rope is safer to use than a steel rope because it generates less kinetic energy - and therefore less kickback - if a break occurs. It won't stretch - or creep - over time like steel rope can. And it's also less likely to fray and create sharp strands so it's easier to handle and easier to spool.
The rope winds around a die-cast aluminum drum. The mounting flanges are strong enough to resist bending or breaking if the rope wrap becomes uneven and excess stress is put on the drum.
A 6', woven-polyester protective sleeve at the hook end of the rope provides extra protection for your hands. A hand-saver strap is also included to use in conjunction with leather work gloves (CU881558 - sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook.
The removable hook is made of high-strength forged steel that is heavy duty and rust resistant. It has a spring-loaded safety latch for quick fastening and removal. The hook attaches to a steel thimble on the end of the synthetic rope.
The cast aluminum hawse fairlead is designed to be used with synthetic rope. It helps guide the rope as it's winding in and out, and it has a rounded hole to help prevent wear. The 3/4" thick fairlead has a black anodized finish that resists corrosion, and it installs with stainless steel hardware.
Note: The hawse fairlead does not mount directly to the winch - it typically attaches to tabs on the UTV base plate (sold separately) or custom mounting plate (sold separately). ComeUp mounting plates and most aftermarket mounts include these tabs.
The winch is constructed of strong, durable materials that are able to withstand any weather condition or terrain. The contactor is sealed and submersible. The motor and gearbox units are made of corrosion-resistant powder coated steel, and they are sealed to keep water out. The steel tie-bars and extra-thick side frame drum supports help to create a strong and rigid winch body.
To install the winch on the front of your UTV you will need a suitable mounting location. In most cases you will need to bolt a custom mounting plate (sold separately) to the front framework of your UTV in order to mount the winch and fairlead. It also may be necessary to bolt the winch and fairlead to a base plate (CU880269 - sold separately) first, then bolt the base plate to the mounting plate.
The contactor can mount anywhere on the UTV but will typically mount on or near the UTV's battery box where it's easy to access. You will need to drill 2 small holes in the mounting surface to secure the unit with the included hardware. Black and red leads connect your vehicle's battery to the contactor, blue and yellow leads connect the contactor to the winch terminals, black and green leads connect the contactor to the rocker switch, and a red lead connects the rocker switch to the UTV master switch. The leads have quick connectors that make removing and re-installing the winch easy. Any excess wiring can be neatly tucked around the engine and secured with zip-ties (not included).
Layers of Rope | Capacity (lbs) | Total Rope on Drum (ft) |
---|---|---|
1st Layer | 4,000 | 13-1/4 |
2nd Layer | 3,385 | 28-13/16 |
3rd Layer | 2,933 | 46-11/16 |
4th Layer | 2,588 | 50 |
The line pull capacity of your winch is determined by the maximum load your winch can pull with a single layer of rope on the drum. As more layers of rope are wound onto the drum, pulling the same load requires more force, leading to a loss in winching power. With a 2nd layer of rope around the drum, your line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 14 percent. With 3 layers on the drum, the line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 23 percent, and with 4 layers on the drum it is reduced by approximately 35 percent.
Note: It is recommended that you begin any line pull with a minimum of 5 wraps and a maximum of 2 layers of rope on the drum.
Increase the pulling capacity of your winch by doubling up the rope with a pulley block (CU881080 - sold separately). Secure the pulley block to a tree saver strap (CU881091 - sold separately) with a bow shackle (CU881092 - sold separately) to provide a strong anchor for your double-line pull. Using double-line operation will approximately double your winch's pulling capacity.

Today, we're going to be taking a look at part number C-U-1-2-9-4-1-2. This is the ComeUp Cub 4s Powersports UTV Winch. This one's going to have the synthetic rope. The Cub Series Powersports Winch can help you get out of the mud, snow, ice, or whatever obstacles stand in your way. It's designed for endurance and reliability. It's going to feature a high-efficient low amp draw and sealed permanent magnet motor.
This right here is going to be our sealed weather resistant contactor. This is going to handle high amps. It allows higher duty cycle. Once it's installed, its job is pretty simple. It simply just disconnects your winch from the power source when the vehicle is not in use. So, any instructions is going to indicate that it needs to be mounted close to the battery.
You're also going to get all the necessary wiring and hardware. It's going to feature color coded wiring. So, here in this bundle, you're going to have your yellow and blue wiring. That's going to connect to the yellow and blue posts here on the winch and run to the yellow and blue posts here on the contactor. Then, you're going to have your red and black wiring.
That's going to run from the red and black posts on the contactor to the red and black posts on the vehicle battery. So, another neat feature about that is that it's all color coded which makes the installation a little bit easier. All the wiring here in this bundle is going to be 6-gauge wiring. So, nice heavy-duty wiring. It's also going to come with your handlebar rocker switch. This is going to allow you to control the winch from the seat of your UTV.
All the wiring and the plugs are included for the installation. You're also going to get the bracket and all the necessary hardware to get that installed for the handlebar rocker switch. Now, this is going to be rated with a 4,000 pound single line pull rating. So, that's going to be the capacity of our winch. When it comes to the motor, we're looking at a 800 watt, 1 horse power, 12 volt permanent magnet motor. When it comes to the gear ratio, it's a 3-stage planetary gear system. It's going to offer a gear ratio of 191 to 1. Here on the side, it's got the nice, large, red knob. Very easy to operate. That's going to be our clutch. We're going to have an engaged position and we're going to have a disengage position. With it engaged, that's going to allow us to use the handlebar rocker switch to control the in and out functions of the winch for our load. And with it disengaged, we can actually just grab the end of the rope and we can pull on it, and it allows the winch to go into a free spool mode, which allows for fast, synthetic rope pay out. Allows us to get it easily to the load so we can connect it to our load or to our anchor point. This right here is going to be our grade 70 forged steel hook with a safety latch designed to prevent accidental disconnecting. It's going to come with a strong hand-saver strap and the pin and clip that connects it directly to the end of our synthetic rope. This right here is going to be our Hawse fairlead made from aluminum construction. Nice smooth design. Our synthetic rope is going to come through the Hawse fairlead and the nice smooth design is really going to help eliminate friction, or it's going to reduce the amount of friction, so it extends the life of our winch here at the synthetic rope. It's going to come with a mounting hardware for the Hawse fairlead. Now, keep in mind that the fairlead is designed to be attached to a mounting bracket, not directly to the winch. The winch mounting bracket is going to be sold separately so that part is not included with this part number. When it comes to the braking system, we're looking at mechanical and dynamic load hold and brake. It's going to offer 100% braking. The winch is going to feature an aluminum die-cast and housings. So, it's built for strength and durability. It's going to feature that nice center drum design. The drum size is going to measure 2.2 inches by 4.7 inches. It's going to use, again, the synthetic rope. This is going to be S-K-dash-75 synthetic rope. It's going to measure 50 feet long by 7/32 inch of a diameter. If we flip this over, we can take a look at the mounting bolt pattern. Your mounting hardware for the winch is also included. Measuring this direction between the holes, we're going to have four holes, we're going to have measurement of about 6 5/8ths of an inch and then the separation between these. It's going to be pretty close to 3 inches. That's going to be the same for the opposite sides. Now, the winch is going to weigh about 17.6 pounds. That's with the rope already on it. It's going to give us an overall length of about 14 1/2 inches, overall width of 4 1/2 inches, and then overall height of 4 3/4 of an inch. Now, with no load on the rope, it's going to have a line speed of 19.7 feet per minute and it's going to draw 15 amps at 12 volts with it at max capacity, 4,000 pounds with a single line of rope around the drum. We're going to have a line speed of 6.6 feet per minute and it's going to draw 230 amps at 12 volts. But you can see everything that it comes with. You're going to get the winch, the hook with the hand-saver strap, handlebar rocker switch, Hawse fairlead, all the wiring that you need. You're going to get your sealed contactor, mounting hardware for the Hawse fairlead, mounting hardware for the winch, mounting hardware and bracket kit for the handlebar rocker switch. You're going to get some zip ties to secure any excess wiring that you may have and you're going to get these nice rubber boots to protect the posts and the ring terminals on the wiring. That's going to do it for our look at part number C-U-1-2-9-4-1-2.

Standard-duty winch with 1-hp, permanent magnet motor lets you quickly and safely recover a stuck UTV. Sealed design ensures winch operates in any environment. Dual brakes offer reliable load holding. Handlebar rocker switch included.
Exactly what I was looking for. The 1 bad thing is battery cable is too short but I can extend.
I’ve had this winch on an 03 Polaris sportsman 700 for a year, and so far I’ve been very pleased with it. Bought it to use with a snowplow and it worked like a champ all through last winter. Has also worked on anything I’ve needed to use it for, i.e. pulling logs, pulling out the stuck garden tractor, etc. no complaints so far, works every time.
This was the product that most closely matched the high end original winch on my Polaris ATV. The same design, dimensions and bolt pattern allowed an easy swap out. Primary use will be operation as snowplow lift. The ease of swap out slowed as I used my original mounting plate assembly that may have been thicker than a replacement. I required mounting bolts 1/4 longer than the supplied hardware.
I would recommend this as an affordable replacement winch, completed plowing and pleased with my choice.
I take it on and off and use it with the front hitch on my Tundra- so the hitch mount plate and carry handle are great. The wired remote has a decent cable length, and gets the job done. I wish the line speed was bit higher, but otherwise, it is exactly what I expected. I have used it for forestry/arborist work as a line tension aid, and to haul larger trunk pieces out of the woods. As someone who works alone, it is the perfect tool. Having lived in the mountains, I also used a few dozen times to help recover vehicles that slid of the road. 4,000 lbs works well for many passenger vehicles, and I have the other gear to set it up properly.
Still going strong, have used more times than I want to admit. It has saved us over and over. Love the synthetic rope over the wire version I had prior to this.
