Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the rear bumper, along the driver's-side frame rail.

Once installation is complete, the 5-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 5-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Good product as always

Hitch arrived within one week as expected. Watched video, read instructions & installed the hitch in 20 min. Had a question about the wiring harness; etrailer customer service answered the phone directly and provided the information.
Good product, good price, excellent service,

Fast delivery. Quick and easy wiring harness installation. Note that for my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the vehicle computer had to be updated to activate the trailer light function.... yep. I found a dealer that did it for $xx others wanted $xxx. 20 minute job to activate the lights.

by:

I didn't realize this part did not plug into the 7 pin RV socket, instead it connects to the plug that connects to the back of the RV socket. Had I realized that, I would have ordered a different adapter. Since I threw out the packaging, I can't return it. However, the quality of the part is top notch and I would highly recommend it to those who need this type of adapter.

still dont have a need for it as I bought a different adapter. Might get a vehicle down the road that will need it though.

The connection was wrong. So picked up a $6.50 connection at hardware store and spiced it onto the old one. Used heat shrink and electrical tape. Works like it should.

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Direct plug and play for my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. There are some things you need to know about the vehicle itself though! Before ordering, look under your rear bumper and make sure the 4/7 pin factory plug is tucked up under there. Different year/trim level grand Cherokees may or may not have the factory wiring. Mine did, so easy plugin.

Second, the dealer has to get into the vehicles computer and activate the trailer light controls. So, even after installing you WILL NOT have power until you take it to the dealer and have them activate it. Plenty of info online about it, Google will find it for you. If you are savvy and have a elm327 compatible OBDII hookup, you can pay about $50 for software that will allow you to get in and activate it yourself for cheaper than the dealer. 2018 and newer have a firewall, so the $100 dealer trip might be your best bet.

2014 Dodge Ram Pickup

Purchased this to use on a 2014 Ram 1500 with factory trailer brake set up. The cable worked fine to stop trailer when pressing the brake. But it wouldn't let me manually brake the trailer or control the pressure of the brake from my control.

by:

Holding up great! Unfortunately my trailer had a 4 pole connector, but it was easy to modify to connect with this.

by:
2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Plugged right in to my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee factory trailer wiring harness. Jeep dealer had to "flash" computer to recognize trailer wiring, but that was simple and quick. Works great!

Not sure if the difficulty to install this was on Jeep’s end or my end. But it worked.

  • Need Wiring For 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Towing A Boat Trailer With 5-Pole Connector
It sounds like your trailer has a 5-pole flat connector which is very common for boat trailers with surge brakes. I recommend Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 5-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # C56515 which plugs into the factory tow package port on the Jeep. The other end will plug into the 5-pole connector on your boat trailer. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

You can simply plug the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 5-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # C56515 into your OEM tow package port with no cutting or splicing required. • 4 pole to 5 pole Adapter Recommendation for a 2009 Ford Edge Towing a Trailer with Surge Brakes
In order to add a 5-Way to your 2009 Ford Edge you can use the 4 to 5-Way adapter # 20036. This will plug into the 4-way you have on your vehicle. The extra blue wire will connect to the reverse light circuit on the vehicle. Normally this adapter is used from hydraulic surge couplers that have an electric lockout feature. I have included a link to the video you mentioned showing a typical installation.

  • Parts Needed to Convert a 4-way to a 5-way for a Honda Odyssey Towing Surge Brake Boat Trailer
You are going to need to install a Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole # 20036. This product will plug right into your 4-way and then you will run the blue wire from the adapter to your reverse light circuit and then you will have a fully functional 5-way that will allow the trailer brakes to release when you reverse your trailer. I attached an install video for this product to show you how it installs.

  • Adding a 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector to a 2008 Ford F-150 with 4-Way Flat Connector
Wiring harness # C56515 is primarily for GM vehicles and will not fit a Ford truck. If you already have a 4-Way and need to have a 5-Way then the simplest solution is to use # 20036. All you have to do to get the 5th reverse function is to tap into the reverse light wire behind one of the reverse lights. The 4-Way will just plug in. I have linked a video to the right showing a typical installation for you.

  • Recommended 5-Way Harness For 2002 Chevrolet Silverado With No 7-Way Connector
Per our fit guide and information, the 2002 Silverado came with a factory 7-way connector at the rear of the vehicle. Since you said you do not have the 7-way, the 5-way connector will need to be hardwired. You will need a circuit tester like part # 3808 to test the wires by function. You can enlist the help of someone to sit in the cab and run through the different functions while you find the correct wires. I recommend the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector, part # HM47900....

  • Trailer Hitch and 5-Way Wiring Kit Recommendation for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The best hitch we have available for your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the etrailer part # e98901 which has plenty of towing capacity and is mostly hidden as well. For trailer wiring you'd want to start with the part # C56515 which is a 5-way just like what your boat trailer needs. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop....

  • 5-Pole Flat Trailer Wiring Harness for 2016 Dodge Ram 1500
We do offer wiring adapters that allow a vehicle with one type of trailer connector to tow a trailer with a different connector. All such adapters like # A75TB, which converts a 7-way RV style connector to a 5-pole flat, are shown on the linked page. These are fine for the short-term but since adapters mean more connections - and more connections can mean more problems - I suggest instead a 5-pole wiring kit that plugs right in to the U.S. Car connector at the rear of the Ram. To install a 5-way connector on your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, you will need part # C56515. This plugs into the vehicle harness located under the vehicle behind the bumper. There will be a protective cap on the vehicle harness. Just remove the cap, plug the # C56515, and you will have a 5-way connector at the back of your Silverado.
