Features to know about

Secure Long-Distance Stability: Frame-Mounted Tie-Downs

When you’re hauling a camper for thousands of miles, you need it to stay rock solid on the road. These front tie-downs mount directly to your truck’s frame—the strongest part of the vehicle—so the camper’s weight is evenly distributed and its center of gravity stays low. That means less sway, better handling, and a safer ride no matter how far you travel. The design avoids a top-heavy setup, keeping your camper stable through crosswinds and rough terrain alike.

Install Without Drilling: Custom-Fit Setup

These tie-downs bolt onto existing holes in your frame, so installation takes minimal time and no drilling or major modifications are needed. The custom-fit brackets sit tight against the frame with little loss of ground clearance, so you don’t have to worry about dragging or snagging on uneven roads. It’s a straightforward install that you can handle yourself with basic tools.

Keep Your Truck Looking Clean: Removable Arms

When you’re not hauling your camper, remove the tie-down arms and your truck keeps its clean look. The low-profile brackets tuck neatly under the body, making them practically invisible once the arms are off. You get the strength and utility when you need it without giving up your truck’s good looks when you don’t.

Side view of a truck showing TorkLift frame-mounted camper tie-down brackets nearly hidden beneath the body for a clean, factory look.

Built Tough to Withstand the Elements: Powder Coated Steel

Each tie-down is made of black powder coated steel that resists corrosion and stands up to road debris and weather exposure. The heavy-duty finish keeps them looking good and performing strong through years of use, even after winter travel or salt spray.

Adjustable Connection Points: Secure Hold for Any Camper

The adjustable arms include two pin holes so you can extend them for clearance around fenders or sidewalls and choose the best reach for your turnbuckles (sold separately). Two anchor holes on each tie-down plate let you fine-tune your setup to hold your camper from multiple angles, helping prevent shifting or movement during travel.

Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the TorkLift Front Frame Mount Tie Downs

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to be taking a look at TorkLift's line of custom frame mounted camper tie downs for the front. You want to verify here at etrailer.com using our fit guide, which ones work best for your vehicle. There are sets also available that will fit your vehicle available for the rear. These custom mounted brackets are going to provide an easy attachment point to hook up your camper. What's additionally great about those is that they have the removable ends. So when you're not using it, they'll be hidden away, and your vehicle will look like factory. The custom mounted brackets we're engineered to provide you with the best location for your tie down point to even distribute the load.

So, once they're attached, and adjusted. This'll keep your camper from being too top heavy. This'll increase the overall ride quality while you're campers attached, and the safety. It's made of a durable steel with a black powder coat finish, which'll ensure that you have a strong attachment point, and it'll be highly resistant to corrosion. When you are ready to use them, you can just slide in the attachment point. There's two points here to attach your turn buckles, and here on the shaft there are two points that will give you an adjustment inward, and outward, to specifically fit your camper.

So, you can use this hole for a wider camper, or this hole for an aero camper. Once you've got your appropriate hole, slide the pin through, and bring the latch over, and lock it in place. Then you can attach your turn buckles. Now if you need some turn buckles you can pick them up here at etrailer.com. There are many a different styles. From chain types, to quick attach lever types.

Our style is going to a be a threaded rod type that will hook to your camper, and down to our attachment point. We'll adjust it snug by turning our turn buckle here. With our passenger side done, we'll repeat that same step on our driver's side.Compared to stake pocket, our bumper mounted camper tie downs, frame mounted tie downs will provide better handling. They also mount out of sight, giving your truck a cleaner look, because the custom fit brackets secure tight against your trucks frame there is no loss of ground clearance. That completes our look at TorkLift's line of custom frame mounted camper tie downs for the front..

The front tie down mounts did not fit my 2008 Toyota Tundra SR5 5.7 L V8.The problem is that the bump stops attached to the rear cab mount bolts are in the way. That is something that cannot be removed permanently to accomodate the tie downs. The arm that bolts higher on the frame needs to be bent at a greater angle to fit both the frame and the cab Mount bushing. The rear fit perfectly.

They’re great on holding the camper. The only issue I have is the rubbing on the truck bed. Other than that, they’re great! Used them to road-trip through Baja California with no issues. Impressive.

This is my second truck that I have outfitted with Torklift frame mounted tie downs from etrailer. I carry big campers on my trucks and, in recent years, the Torklift system is the best option. They have worked flawlessly for me. I’m an older guy and I was able to install them myself with the help of an impact driver and torque wrench. It all went together in a couple hours. With today’s trucks, the metal in the beds is so thin that you can’t really mount directly to it any more without the weight of the camper levering on it and damaging it. Even the bumpers today are too thin to mount the old Happijack “buttons” for rear camper mounts. These custom designed Torklift mounts bolt directly onto the truck frame without touching the bed. They have extensions that stick out from under the bed when in place. Each of the four extensions easily removes when not needed and leave a “clean” look.

The service from etrailer is always good and fast. I have bought many things from them over the years. The people who answer the phones there know their products and give reliable, friendly advice. They have always been there for me whether I had tech questions, needed installation advise or (other product) shipping damage return, etc. I give the company my full endorsement.

Thanks John, we sure appreciate that! I'm glad to hear your tie-downs are working well for you...

This is the third set, third vehicle, I have installed these camper tie-downs on. Once you are used to torklift instructions/ pictures the installation is not that hard ( even for me at 74 years old). The torklift product itself is well made and works great.

These tiedowns were great. They fit my 2023 ford f350 4wd crew cab perfectly. They bolted on using existing holes and they included wire feeders to feed the bolts through all the holes. Everything was included in the kit and installation was pretty simple. Probably took an hour or so. Directions were very good and easy to follow. They hold my camper down very securely and are adjustable for various widths. Also easy to drill different hokes for custom widths. I highly recommend this tie down for this model truck.

These tie downs are sill working as advertised. I have travelled over 20,000 mi with them in various conditions with about 10 of that time in dirt roads or 4wd roads. Nothing too crazy, but with my camper and these tied downs I am confident that the camper will remain attached and be secure. It hardly moves around at all. They are worth the money and I can still remember how easily they installedvery welll thought out design and installation!

@Mark Thanks for the input! That definitely helps to paint a picture of the durability of these things! What has been your favorite trip so far?

Product came promptly, however, part of the tie-down was sticking out through the box when delivered. Stronger packaging is suggested. Everything fit well and instructions were quite handy, making much of the otherwise difficult installation easier. There was mention of possible alteration of the emergency brake cable support if it was a manual system. Extra parts were even included if needed. However, on a 2025, 5.5' F-150, nothing was said about a main exhaust support being in the way of the passenger side's installation. The tie-downs are now installed but I'm still trying to figure out how to re-install the muffler support.

Hi Jim! I can see why that would be frustrating for sure. The good news is you usually don’t have to do anything drasticmost fixes come down to slightly repositioning the exhaust system rather than fully relocating it. That can mean loosening and adjusting a bolt-on hanger, adding a small spacer, or even tweaking the hanger position just enough to create some clearance. I’ll drop this article here since it walks through a few simple ways to fix it step-by-step, but overall you’re on the right track it’s typically just a matter of giving the exhaust a little more room so nothing is rubbing or under tension. This help article is about a hitch install but it still applies here.

The front mounts installed relatively easily with no drilling or modification. Instructions were ok, i recommend doing the passenger side first, as it has no gas tank in the wayand you will get the idea of the mount and order of tightening. I had to use double washers(provided) on the replacement bed bolt provided to make it work properly. The mounts themselves are solid and well made. Roughly .120 wall tubing. I sprayed cold galvanizing paint inside the tubes to prevent corrosion. etrailer’s service and shipping were top notch and fast. Total install about 4 hours, but I work slowly and take my time.

Very poor instruction manual...

The photos are very small with poor dark images and contrast. Also, the names of the nuts, bolts, and other items should have photos of each item with the description and name of that item in each photo.

It appears that you don't want to help the customer install it on his own.

The tie downs are well made and strong.

I will give you more feedback when I get deeper into the installation...

The camper tie down are solid and well worth the money. I installed them on my f250 to hold my camper and I just get in and go. Even in the mountain terrain.

We originally installed Happijack tiedowns in 2013 because that was the only option that the dealer offered and they did well until we unexpectedly went over a large hump in a highway road damaging the front tiedowns and the bumper! Once the damage was repaired, we decided to go with the frame mounted Torklyft tiedowns, which, although not inexpensive, are superior in my opinion to the non-frame tiedowns. Earlier this year we replaced the rear tiedowns prior to a trip to Alaska and they worked extremely well over the notoriously challenging roads thru the Yukon Territory and Alaska “highways”. Upon our return we replaced the front Happijack tiedowns with the Torklyft frame mounted tiedowns and so far are very pleased with the upgrade.

Glad to hear you are liking them, Milton! And I agree, the TorkLift tie downs are superior to the HappiJac tie downs. They are just more secure and heavier duty. At least in my opinion. And that sounds like quite the trip! Was it just a camping trip or did you do some fishing and or hunting?

Keep in mind the parameters of the application these may be different on another vehicle. Camper is a Northern lite 9-6. Vehicle Chevy 3500 LB SRW 4x4. Post install, in my opinion. I’d feel my comfortable if the ‘FastGun’ tie downs were facing opposing directions. Currently attaching to the designated anchor points all four FG’s angle from the TorkFit anchor point BACK towards the NL camper’s anchor points. This positively prevents the 3600 LB. camper from rearward movement. However FOWARD movement can and has occurred. After a necessary sudden braking event I checked my clearances and discovered that forward movement did occur. About, one inch. My NL slid far enough forward that contact was made between the vehicle and the camper. Realignment was necessary. From an Engineers perspective: the best anchorage would be achieved with the anchoring devices (FastGuns, in my case) installed in opposing directions. In the future I will be placing blocks between the camper and the front of the truck bed to eliminate any forward movement.

I reached out to the manufacturer. They advised that they think it is a combination of the Northern light camper anchor point location being situated so far back on the camper and possibly the front of the camper not being all the way against the bulkhead of the bed if it is moving forward still. Otherwise, everything looks typical of a truck camper and truck installation. If it has any room to slide forward, it will in a sudden braking situation.

Albert profile picture

Albert

12/6/2022

Jenny thanks for your reply and diligence in reaching out to TorkFit. The NL camper does have forward bumpers for abutting the bulkhead. However when bulkhead contact is made the body of the my 21 Silverado makes contact with the fiberglass body of the camper. The pressure from a recent ‘sudden stop’ and ‘slide forward’ created enough pressure to chip paint on the truck. The bumpers make contact with the bulkhead about 10”-12” above the bed-bulkhead connection. The 90* corner at bottom, this should be the strongest area. I will install stop chocks at future loadings. I’ll also attempt to possibly install the TorkFits in a more vertical position. Thanks.

Jason was great to work with on getting the proper camper tie downs for my truck as it was a new truck and was a bit confused as to the proper application.
I had them installed within an hour. Even an armature bolt twister could do this!
I have used my camper a lot since putting these on my truck and will tell you these are THE MOST SECURE ANCHORS I have ever used on any of my trucks PERIOD!
You will not make a bad decision going with this product. I recommend these tie downs over any product available! I Don't normally give recommendations or endorse products. These I am truly impressed with.

The best system one can get for worry free camping. Etrailer communication and service has been superb.
by:
I had the mountings professionally attached to the frame. The hatches can be easily removed when not in use( and I would recommend that to keep them from being stolen). Using chains and turnbuckles, I feel very comfortable with my truck camper staying where it is.. does not rock, very solid.
It’s nice to feel secure about my camper staying firmly attached.
It was worth the investment.

A year later, I just got back from camping trip. I love the easy set up of these hitches. I’m a 65 year old woman, and I can put these mounts on my truck in less than five minutes. Then, another 10 or 15 to put the chains and turn buckles on, make them tight. I usually drive about 5 miles maybe 10, go get gas, and give all the chains a shake to make sure they’re still tight. If not, spin the turnbuckles a time or Two. And off, I go. I am extremely happy with this investment. Of all the things I bought after buying the camper, this has brought me the most security and feeling of safety. Good luck, happy camping whatever you decide.

by:

Everything arrived without damage and all parts/pieces were there. It fit my 2024 RAM 3500 perfectly. I will note that installing the bolts was a challenge as it would take a small hand to fit in place. I ended up using a magnetic retrieval tool to place them. Also on the fuel tank side it was a very close fit. I did do all the work on the ground and breaking the rear spring shackle bolts loose took a 24" bar and a floor jack on the passenger side. On the driver side I had to use a section of pipe on the ratchet. But overall they were installed in about 2.5 hours. Picked up our new us truck camper last weekend and it was easy to secure and little to no movement during travel.
by:
The parts fit as they should and work as designed. The main challenge for installing is in the loosening of the leaf spring bolts. With out an impact wrench or access to a touch and a long breaker bar it would be next to impossible for an average person to install.

The units appeared to be well made and were nicely painted. I installed them on my F150. The tools and hardware supplied were of good quality and installation was straight forward. Two people would have been great, but I was able to install both sides in a little less than an hour. The holes all line up very well. I like these better than the previous units I had on my 2013, as they do not stick out as far - so less noticeable. The extension arms come out at a very nice angle just under the body. I find these units with quality I expected and I think they will be highly functional in attaching my camper.

Well, we called you today to inform you that one of the three packages didn't arrive via UPS. You said it showed delivered so basically we go pound dirt. A package was delivered here that did not belong to us. I literally had to get in my vehicle and track down the UPS truck. Low and behold he still had my 3rd box on his truck. That is obviously not your fault but the final response from you was very disappointing. We spend thousands with etrailer

Couldnt ask for anything better. I am using them on a regular basis. When not in use I remove, clean and store them in my garage. No rust issues and the brackets attached to the truck are just as solid as when I first torqued them to the trucks frame. I definitely recommend them to anyone looking for proper camper tie-downs. PS: Their customer service, as always, I outstanding!

Product Review: F2016, 2012 Ford F250 extended cab 8' bed
I really like the Torklift front tiedowns. I didn't feel I had the skill to fab the front tiedowns. The rear however, are rather simple. 2 1/2" 1/4" wall square pipe slips inside the factory hitch receiver. I used 27" lengths. The factory Ford hitch receiver curves towards the rear axle. Drilled and tapped thru receiver and pipe to hold it. Happy with the quick service from etrailer.com!
