5 Stars to etrailer for their usual stellar customer service. I've always had a positive experience in my years of dealing with them. The attention to detail in your web site is so appreciated. The PDF Instructions you posted was a real help since the manufacturer's printed material that came with the kits was not legible due to over inking in the printing process.

I did subtract one star from the product simply because I was caught off guard when we picked up our new camper. The supplied chain with the kit did not reach the tie down points between the camper and Torklift frame mount bracket for the front pair of mounts. Luckily, I had a short length of chain and 3 additional split links in the truck with me and was able to "jury-rig" a temporary solution. The rear connections worked as advertised. I realize that this is Torklift's issue, not etrailer's, but I've noted it here for the benefit of others.

For the record, the camper mounts were very typical for campers of this size. It was a 2018 Travel Lite 840 SBRX model and our truck is a 2016 Ram 2500HD short bed (6'-5"). Photo IMG_4966 shows this required modification.

The instructions say that the tie down links should be tightened until the loop has pulled away from the housing by 18th of an inch. I cannot get the loop to move at all. I dont want to over tighten the tie down and cause damage but the loop has never moved above the housing. They still seem to hold the camper in place but theres no way I can tell that theres a spring involved in the system.

by:

I use these to reduce the stress on the camper when it might rock side to side suddenly.
The springs seem very stiff since when I tighten on the turnbuckles it takes a lot to compress them just a tiny amount, and this is good. I would not want the springs to be compressed to easily.
I mounted the springs at the camper up front, and at the truck tiedown point on the rear because is just what I had to do to make it fit.
I put 30,000 miles on these with no issues, and a few trips down off-road locations that bumped the truck all over and the camper held fine.
I cannot really tell you any difference between chains and chains with the spring, but I like the peace of mind knowing there is allowance for the TC to move before breaking something.

Tie downs work great. Less than 1/2 the price of happijacks.

by:

Simple, high quality product. Easy installation with no surprises.

by:

Easy install and quality product!

by:

I'm still thrilled with the TorkLift SpringLoad Turnbuckles - they've been EASY to use, give me a much better sense of stability than I had with non-spring turnbuckles, and meet the warranty requirements of my camper. I bought 2 sets to have the spring mounts on all four corners of the camper. I have the camper on and off the truck regularly and when remounting the camper it's very simple to adjust the tension to the correct level on the turnbuckles. I'm a big TorkLift fan... these do a great job at an excellent price.

by:

Based on MI I bought these for an '85 camper sitting on a '95 F-250 last year. Toured the western US for 2 months and then drove to NH and back with zero concerns. Excellent product. Highly recommend...

A year out and almost 15,000 miles on this hardware. No complaints and everything is working as it should...

by:

Seems expensive for what it is, but I think it is worth it for the peace of mind you get when you see them installed. Very sturdy and secures the camper down well. One thing I did notice though is it seems like the bolts should be a little bit longer so there are more threads beyond the end of the nut when installed.

by:

Nice product but very expensive, like most other Torklift products. I only needed the spring load portion but had to buy the turnbuckles and chains which I won't be using. Sure wish Torklift had a competitor.

by:

etrailer experience was top notch. Easy ordering, prompt shipping and item received without damage. Installation was very easy with great directions including pictures. Have used tie downs for a year and everything remains sturdy and without problems. Highly recommend.

by:

I have installed the tie-downs and all is well. Have not road tested them, yet.
Will send another after a test.

by:

The tie down chains worked as they should. Not as nice as the fast guns, but a lot cheaper.

by:

Simple, heavy duty, easy to install. I used my own tie down points for my camper and these were easy to integrate into my tie down system. Have held up over the last year, my camper is on fulltime and we do some off roading with it. Solid.

by:

An excellent solution for tying down a camper with all the benefits of spring loading without the expense of the upscale FastGun products.
They don't take long to hook up at all, and they will protect the warranty on TorkLift tie downs, which require the spring loading.
Simple, good quality, and simple to install and tighten.

by:

Nice inexpensive alternative to much more expensive Fastguns. A little more work but worth it.

by:

I installed the Torklift turnbuckle system and I am very pleased with the safety and security of this when used with the Torklift Tie Downs. Looking forward to the first real test on the road.

by:

Perfect for our cabover camper! There was mistake on our first order and Etrailer made good on a replacement. 5 star customer service! Will definitely keep ordering from these folks!!

by:

I like these turnbuckles but I'm saving up for a set of fast guns.

by:

This review is more for the prompt service provided by etrailer.com. I received my product two days after my order with free shipping and in great condition. As for the product, it is complete and exactly what I ordered and much cheaper than other products. This item will also make sure that my Torklift equipment will stay in warranty and still keep my camper ties in good shape. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Good product,I installed them today. Directions were ok, they are heavy so I expect good longevity.

Works as intended, good product.

by:

sales rep helpful and knowledgeable.good alternative to much higher priced systems. 4 stars instead of 5 because 1 turnbuckles threads were damaged. Customer service is sending a replacement.

by:

Overall this product works well and easy to install. I do not rate it excellent because as others have stated the chain provided was not long enough. If you have more than 43" between anchor points you will need to extend chain. Also when I called tech support I was put on hold for 10 minutes then prompted to leave a call back number, which I did. I never got a call.

by:

This is the second time I have purchased these. The work as advertised and are 100 times better than just turnbuckles alone. The quality is good and they have not let me down.

by:

I like the spring load but the turnbuckle lack a little....

by:

Not much to say....they're chains and turnbuckles. Good quality!!

  • Recommended Turnbuckles for TorkLift Camper Tie Downs
Hey Frank, the best turnbuckles to use are going to be the TorkLift FastGun Turnbuckles # TLS9529 by far. These turnbuckles have a lever action handle for easy operation, a spring loaded design, and is made of high impact stainless steel that is also rustproof. If you're not comfortable dropping that kind of cheddar on turnbuckles, I get it, so you can also use the TorkLift Basic SpringLoad Turnbuckles for Camper Tie-Downs # TLS9000 or the SpringLoad XL # TLS9050A depending on your application.

  • Replacement Turnbuckles That Won't Loosen While Driving for F-150 With 2001 Four Wheel Hawk Camper
If you need a length of 12" I recommend the TorkLift Basic SpringLoad Turnbuckles # TLS9000. These have an adjustable length of 9" - 13". They have a spring-loaded design to reduce stress and won't loosen up over time as you drive. You're pretty limited at that length so I would double checking the measurement. Something like the # LC182897 from the HappiJac Qwik-Load Turnbuckles # LC182895 you looked at would be a great option that will remain secure and is easy to adjust with the levers....

It is a smart idea to verify the right tie-downs because there are so many options, and we do have the correct ones for your 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 Regular Cab with an 8 foot bed and factory hitch. • Are the Torklift Basic Turnbuckles Spring Loaded
Yes. The TorkLift Basic SpringLoad Turnbuckles for Camper Tie-Downs - Qty 2 # TLS9000 are spring loaded so they'll work well to allow the camper to shift around slightly while not being too rigid on the frame. These do a great job when used with Torklift tie downs, so if you also need those just let me know what the year, make and model of the truck is and I can help you locate the correct parts for that.
