Video Transcript for Fastway Self-Locking, Adjustable 2-Ball Mount Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the fastway self locking line of adjustable two ball mounts. So, if you're looking for an easy to use, versatile ball mount, our fastway self locking ball mount, is going to be able to adapt to several different trailers, keep everything secure without any extra components, and look good while doing it.If you tow multiple different trailers, chances are they're going to have a different coupler size, or they're going to have a different tongue height. So, we're going to have to switch out our ball mount. That can become a hassle, especially if we tow so many different trailers in any given day.Well, our fastway ball mount's going to take care of that, because we're going to be able to switch our height, because it's going to be adjustable. But it's also going to give us two different ball sizes. Our ball mounts are going to come in a lot of different configurations, we're going to have some that are going to be available for the two inch receiver tube like we have here. But some also available for the two and a half inch receiver tube. And they're going to have varying different drops and rises that way you can pick one that's going to work with all of your trailers. Now, one thing that you're really going to appreciate about this, is that it's going to have self contained locks.

We're going to have this rubber grommet here, that's going to have a plug over our lock cylinder, so it means we can just lift it open. And you'll notice that we're going to have a tubular key, so we're not going to have to worry about it being picked. But if we unlock our ball, we can slide it up or down to get the appropriate riser drop. And then if we remove it, you'll notice that we're going to have another lock core right on the base here. Now, this is going to be used so we can lock our ball mount directly to the receiver tube. And if you watch, you can notice that the pins are going to go in.

So, we're not going to have to worry about losing our lock, because it's going to be self contained inside the ball mount. We can simply just slide our ball mount in place, line up the pin holes, and then rotate our key, until those pins extend out. And you can see that's not going anywhere. So, we'll make sure that pin is in all the way. And slide our ball mount on, then we can rotate the key, until we get it into the slot, and it will lock it in place. Now, our ball mount's not going to go anywhere, and we're not going to have to worry about anybody stealing it from our receiver, or taking the ball platform. And for extra piece of mind, to make sure that you have the ball mount in the correct spot, it isn't just hung up.

The key itself is not going to come out until it's fully in the locked position. So, even if I get it half way and the key is turned, it's still not going to come out, because that pin hasn't fully inserted. But once it does, the key will come out. Each one of these notches in our ball mount here is going to be in one inch increments. So, right now, we have them in rise position. And if we need to go up say two inches, we can just go up two notches, and that will give us a two inch rise.

And the same thing if we we're going down in the drop position. Each one of our ball mounts is going to come with a total of four keys, and both sets of keys are going to work with both the locks. With the locks being right on front of the shank here, and on the side of the ball platform, it's going to make it a lot easier than trying to get underneath the hitch here, messing with the pin and clip, or locking device, and it's one less thing that we have to worry about misplacing. Because our locks are going to be internal, and they're going to be sealed off from any kind of dirt or debris, so we don't have to worry about them getting damaged. Each one of our ball mounts is going to be made out of a solid piece of aircraft grade aluminum, so we're not going to have to worry about any weak points, because there's no welds in them to break. So, they're going to be nice and strong, and durable, but yet lighter weight than steel versions. Our ball mount right now we have in the drop position, but you can flip it over and put it in the rise position. In case you have a trailer that's taller than the other, so we can get a little bit more height, or drop for whatever we need. Now, each one of them's going to have two different balls on it, we're going to have a two inch ball, and a two and five sixteenths inch ball. And switching them's going to be just as easy as adjusting the height, we simply unlock it, flip the ball platform over, to whichever ball we need. And when it comes to the trailer balls themselves, we're going to have two different options. We'll have the version we have here, which is gonna be a steel, chrome plated ball, which is your typical trailer ball. And then we're going to have the stainless steel version. Now, these are going to be made out of a 303 stainless steel, and they're going to be extremely rust and corrosion resistant. It's going to be really good for marine applications, or anywhere that has a lot of moisture, even humidity, so we're not going to have to worry about rust. And that is another big benefit of the aluminum ball mount, it is going to be rust and corrosion resistant, so we know it's going to have this nice, polished mirror finish for a long time. Now, since our ball mounts are going to come in a variety of different configurations, the shank size, and the ball size, is going to make a difference on how much it can handle. So, whenever you're towing, you always want to double check your hitch, as well as the vehicle's owner manual, and go with the lowest rating.Being able to adjust the ball mount up and down, is nice, but if we don't know how much of a drop or rise we need, it doesn't do us much good. So, we'll show you how to measure for the appropriate riser drop for your trailer. You're going to want to measure from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, you're gonna make sure that your tow vehicle is nice and flat and on level ground whenever you make your measurement. So, right here, we're getting right about 17 inches. Now, we can come to our trailer and again, you want to make sure that your trailer is nice and level. So, we have our trailer chalked. And we'll come up to the coupler, and we'll measure from the ground to the bottom edge of the coupler here. Which I'm getting right about 21 inches. So, there is about a four inch difference. But since my trailer is higher, I'm going to want a four inch rise. So, we'll take our ball mount, we'll make sure that the pins are all the way in, and since I need a rise, I'll put it in the rise position. Slide it in the receiver tube, line up the holes and turn the key and lock it in place. And we can grab our ball platform, and again, open up the plug, take our key, make sure that pin goes all the way in. Pick the appropriate ball for your trailer, we'll slide it down close to where we need it. And once we have it lined up, we can turn the key and replace the plug. So, now we can go and double check our measurements, make sure we're pretty close to that 21 inches, and we are. Now, all we have left to do, is back up and hook up to our trailer. That'll finish up your look at the fastway self locking line of adjustable two ball mounts.

If you are looking for a solid trailer hitch I would spend the extra money and get one of these solid hitches. I carry a lot of weight behind my Tahoe and my Dually and have one of these hitches on each. I suggest not trying to save a $100 and get a less expensive one as they are not as strong, its not worth losing a load on the highway. Remember you always get what you pay for... this hitch is awesome. 333436

I needed two different trailer balls. This hitch eliminated the need to carry the other one in the vehicle. It is a nice neat setup for the tow. There is some slop between my receiver and the hitch; but other than that it works great. 138256

The quality of the hitch is excellent, plus it looks great on the Suburban. This product was exactly what I was looking for. I have three trailers that I keep in several locations. Now I never have to concern myself with having the wrong hitch on the tow vehicle. 131580

Both the product and etrailer have exceeded my expectations. I'm in a retail business and wish my entire staff was this efficient. This is solid. But also surprisingly light. Installed easily and locking mechanism is very smooth. Wish it came in anodized black: my only complaint. Feels like a value at the etrailer price. I am using on an Audi Q7 so have it flipped over so as to get a 1" rise. 450854

The hitch is very versatile for multiple trailer heights. The quality of finish is very good. The only drawback is there is up and down play in the receiver were the hitch locks in. This causes some hitch noise when braking due to the play. Locking feature means no theft. Over all a very good buy and worth the extra price 91819

First of all I received my order lickity split. Thank You! When I opened the Ball Mount, I used the key and turned it to see the pins slide in. One side slightly moved. The key turned but no response. After working it for what seemed a long time, and pushing with my thumb it now works. But I am still a little skeptical of it. Hard to imagine that little amount of pin on both sides will hold 10,000 lbs. Otherwise, it looks really nice and I just used it to tow a single Seadoo and trailer and it held. The true test will be the big trailer. Sherry:) 63724

Well, I still love the Ball Mount, even thou the first time I took it off the little barrings with the springs, which I believe is the rattle control fell out. Did nt bother to stick them back in since it would happen again. I chased them down the driveway. I have a bolt on the underside of my receiver that I tighten which keeps any rattle happening. I had that installed. It pulls the trailer with no problem. Thanks, Sherry:

Thanks for the follow up Sherry. I am happy to hear that you do have an anti-rattle device that is working well for you. I also wanted to let you know that Diversi-Tech has redesigned this adjustable ball mount. The new design no longer includes the anti-rattle balls that you chased down the driveway.

The key driven locks look questionable at first, but they hold just as solid as the pins. I don't think I have pressed it's limits with my power dump trailer, but it definitely meets my needs. I generally hook it up to the top 2" receiver on my torklift 20k receiver. Works great. Feels substantial! 550239

I ordered this because even though mine wasn't broken I wanted a bullet aluminum one. No welds. Good looking, solid, and weighs a lot less than my last one (which is steel). I will begin to put it through the rigors of my towing starting tomorrow. Glad I found this product. 304769

Great solid hitch but the lock is poor quality. I left it on the truck for several months (with lock protection cap on) and one day I went to remove. Found lock tumbler had shifted and was unable to insert key to remove. Had to drill out lock to get ball mount off the truck. I know have a $80 aluminum paper weight. 591181

Satisfied Received helpful advice, order was taken efficiently and product arrived as promised. Probably a much nicer mount than I need, but I was 5 hours from my truck, the trailer was being built, and I was not sure how much drop would be needed. This one covers a wide range, is attractive, easy to use, and has a convenient locking feature. May or may not need the smaller ball, but like knowing it's there just in case. And it all looks good pulling a Kubota tractor on a 22' trailer. 3683

High quality hitch. Very easy to use. I really like that it is one key for the lock and the adjustment. Really good looking hitch. Price is really good when you price out lock/ball/receiver and this one is adjustable with one key for all. This is our second one purchased after we tried the first one out. 208590

The ball mount is everything I hoped it would be. I shopped around for a while and etrailer had the best price. The mount no longer has the silencing roller balls you hear people breaking. The finish is clean and rugged. My only concern is that the key is more universal than I wanted. My former DT locking pin key worked on the hitch too. 160145

Received the hitch recently.....first impressions are that this is a well made product, very well made. Heavy as heck too....which is nice. Mounted it up and locked it in, can't wait to tow with it. Seems well designed as well, the two key holes for locking it in place and adjusting the height have good weather seals as well. Not a lot of play in the moving parts which is nice, no real slop to deal with. 121946

uct works great. There was only one problem that I ran into. The locking key area.that the key fits in would turn a little due to the vibration and the notches would n ot line up. I had to take one key and grind the tab on the outside of the key off so that the key would fit in to match to the tab on the inside. Then I could turn the lock back to where it would line back up. Then I could use the othet key as I would normally use it.

Review from a similar Fastway Self-Locking in Ball Mounts

First off, this is a beautifully made ball mount. Even though it is aluminum, it is still pretty heavy. It looks like it could tow anything. I needed the adjustability because I'm not sure what I'll be towing in the future. I had to return the first one I ordered. The key got stuck and wouldn't come out. They key for adjusting the balls worked fine. ETrailer was very prompt in sending me out another one. The second one was stiff, but became easier to use after several cycles. I towed with it for 300 miles and it worked great. I like the feature that you can turn the ball around and lock it out of the way, so you don't accidently rub up against it and get grease on your pants. I'm very pleased with it so far. I'm just a bit leery now with the key getting stuck, that I promptly removed it from the truck and keep it inside when not in use. I would have gave it an excellent rating except for the key issue. 230680

  • The two ball mounts that you referenced are basically the exact same ball mount with the exception that the # DTALBM6800 can do an 8 inch drop and a 9 inch rise and the # DTALBM6600 can do a 6 inch drop and a 7 inch rise. I would think you would be just fine with the 6 inch drop version, but that really depends on the height of the trailers you plan on towing. I attached a help article that details how to determine how much rise/drop you would need to tow a trailer level.

  • Will SoftRide Anti-Rattle # SR15219 Work With MaxxTow Adjustable Ball Mount # MT70067
  • It is not recommended to deviate from the original manufacturer components because the combination has not been tested together for fit, compatibility and safety. With that being said, I went to the warehouse and measured the holes of the MaxxTow # MT70067 channel portion and the diameter is 11/16 of an inch and the diameter of the pin that comes in the package is a 1/2 inch. The SoftRide Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin # SR25219 has a pin diameter of 5/8 inch, which is 1/16th inch smaller...

  • Adjustable Ball Mount to Tow Multiple Trailers with a 2013 Ford F-150 with 6 Inch Lift
  • Since the lowest of your trailers needs a ball mount with a 9-1/2 inch drop I recommend going with the Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount # DTALBM7000 with the 10 inch drop. It is better to have that little bit of extra drop and not need it than to have a ball mount that does not offer enough drop. The tongue weight of the trailer could pull down the your 2013 Ford F-150 enough to tow it level with the other ball mount, # DTALBM6800, but there is no guarantee that it will...

This ball mount includes a 2-inch hitch ball and a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. This mount has a maximum rise of 9 inches and a maximum drop of 8 inches with 1 inch increments. When used with the 2 inch hitch ball the towing capacity is 8,000 lbs and when used with the 2-5/16 inch hitch ball the towing capacity increases...

  • Diversi-Tech Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount Will Not Unlock
  • It is entirely possible that there is enough pressure still on the pin that goes through the hitch pin hole to prevent you from easily turning the locking mechanism. This could have occurred from the weight of the trailer when it was connected. To relive the tension you will want to attempt to move, wiggle, persuade the ball mount. This should make the lock easier to turn. If you have to persuade it, use a rubber mallet so you do not damage the finish or metal of the ball mount. Another...

  • Dimensions of Diversi-Tech Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount
  • The Diversi-Tech Ball Mount, part # DTALBM6625, has a 2-1/2" shank that fits 2-1/2" receivers, and has a 6 inch drop and 7 inch rise and is not designed to be reduced to fit a 2" receiver. If you have a 2" receiver on your Ram 2500 you would need to go with the Diversi-Tech Ball Mount, # DTALBM6600 , or the Diversi-Tech Ball Mount, # DTALBM6800 . • Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount Recommendation for a 2 inch HItch
  • The sleeve of the # DTALBM6825 cannot be removed so that it can be installed in a 2 inch hitch. The problem is the hitch pin device sticks out too far. You would need to go with the 2 inch hitch version part # DTALBM6800 instead.

  • Can Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount, # DTALBM6800 withstand Indiana Winters
  • I would always recommend storing a ball mount of any type and in any geographic location because I personally hate bumping by shins or knees on them! I have also seen some get corroded and stuck in the hitch receiver so that is another reason to take it out when not in use. The outer parts of the Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount, # DTALBM6800, will withstand those harsh Indiana winters, salt brine, debris, and all. The unit is made of aluminum so it is strong and corrosion...

  • How to Determine if the Diversi-Tech Ball Mount # DTALBM6800 Would Drag the Ground
  • The Diversi-Tech Ball Mount # DTALBM6800 that you referenced is a great adjustable ball mount with plenty of capacity and rise/drop range. If you need a drop of around 8 inches this wouldn't be overkill. You should note that this ball mount will measure 12-7/8 inches from the top of the shank that inserts into the hitch to the furthest point down when this ball mount is in the furthest drop position it will go. You would want to measure from the top of your hitch opening down 12-7/8...
