This Curt Custom Base Plate Kit is made from welded steel and tested to the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). The sturdy design spreads towing forces evenly across the frame, cutting down stress on the suspension during long-distance towing. The hardware bolts straight to the chassis with no welding required, so you get a dependable setup that’s built to handle serious mileage.
When you’re not towing, the base plate practically disappears. The concealed main body gives your front end a clean factory look, while the removable arms leave nothing bulky or awkward sticking out. It’s a tidy design that keeps things safe from shin bumps and makes your rig look right when you’re unhooked.
The twist-lock tabs make connecting or removing your tow bar simple and secure. Slide in the arm, give it a twist, and it locks into place—no fumbling or wasted effort. When it’s time to disconnect, it’s just as quick. The bracket spacing is 24" with a bracket height of 18", so you can plan your connections precisely around those specs.
Every part of this kit is protected by a high-gloss black powder coat and co-cured in a rust-resistant liquid Bonderite coating. Jaime was very helpful in getting the right baseplate for my Jeep Cherokee and in retuning the wrong item which I ordered myself.
The baseplate installed easily and will be used for the first time next week. Also, the curt base plate did not require any trimming whatsoever of the plastics on the front of the car.

The main issue is with how they expect you to fish the bolt and flat spacer into the front of the frame. You have to enlarge the hole in front to get the parts through. If you’ve ever worked the the frame on a vehicle to know that almost impossible. Then you have to fish a wire through that attaches to the bolt and flat bar. The wire his very fragile and limp and if you pull to hard it will come off the bolt. VERY POOR DESIGN.

Excellent instructions on the video that accompanied this product
1/2holes that you must drill should be drilled to 5/8 to make fishing carriage bolt out thru hole. Also when widening front hole to insert plate n carriage bolt should be as large as bolt head for easier installation. All day project but it's on.
Put my new curt baseplate on my JL today. Watched the etrailer install video a few times. Then watched as I did the install. Easier than I anticipated. The video is a life saver.
Well made. Install was straight forward as per the videos I found. The removable arms were a super tight fit, but I was actually glad for that.

Great Base plate kit! Very easy to follow instructions even with my aftermarket bumper with winch. It fit perfect. The only issue I have is where the safety cables attach to the base plate….the cable connectors are too big to fit through the holes because the Jeep’s frame blocks part of the hole. See photo with red circle. I will have to get a smaller connector.
