Features to know about

Made for a Seamless Look: Hidden Base Plate with Removable Arms

When you’re not towing, this setup keeps things clean. The hidden design means the brackets won’t stick out past the front of the vehicle. Once you twist the removable arms out, the included receiver covers plug in to keep dirt out of the sockets and give it a finished look. There’s nothing to bang your leg on when walking by, and the front end keeps its smooth, factory-style appearance.

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit BX2261 installed on a vehicle with removable arms attached, showing the hidden and seamless front design for flat towing.

Quick Twist Connection: Easy Hook-Up System

Connecting your tow bar doesn’t get much simpler. The arms insert into the receivers and lock in place with a twist. When you’re done towing, pull the pin, rotate, and slide them back out. It’s a smooth, tool-free process that makes getting on the road easier whether you’re hitching up at home or at a campsite.

Solid Build for Long Hauls: Steel Construction That Spreads Towing Force Evenly

This base plate bolts directly to the chassis with no welding required. The heavy-duty steel construction is powder coated to resist rust and corrosion, and its sturdy design spreads towing force evenly to help prevent stress on the suspension. It’s built to stay solid after thousands of miles of travel.

Stay Flexible with Your Setup: Works with Multiple Tow Bar Brands

The sturdy lugs pair right up with Blue Ox tow bars for a secure connection. If you’re using a Roadmaster or Demco tow bar, it’s adaptable with their specific adapter kits (RM-031 or RM-031-5 for Roadmaster, DM9523041 for Demco—each sold separately). Integrated mounting points make it easy to attach an electrical connector plug and bracket so your lighting setup stays neat and accessible.

DIY-Ready Installation: Bolt-On with Included Hardware

You can bolt this base plate right to your vehicle’s chassis—no welding needed. Everything mounts securely using the included hardware for a straightforward install. For planning purposes, the distance between brackets is 22" and bracket height is 13", so you can line up your tow bar setup before you start.

The safety Cable installation left a little to be desired. I'm not sure if I installed it as designed. The cables we're really long enough to go aroiund the frame rails on our Jeep, under the Radiator mount, Aluminum Frame, I was only able to go around the Raditor mount on both sides. Didn't really seam like it was the right way, but I suspect it's only for if something comes loose that there isn't a catastrophic breakaway.

After installing over 500 baseplates on various vehicles, this one was probably the toughest one . It had the off road package on it . But it fit great after I had to remove a lot that had been bolted up for 27yrs.

by:

Tried to install this baseplate. It was a challenge to say the least. It did not fit the frame of my Jeep YJ without making modifications to the mounting plates on the driver side. I had to use a cut off wheel and remove 3/16 of an inch from the driver side spacer (which is too long. See pictures) in order to get it to clear the frame. Also, instructions say to drill an additional 1/2 inch hole in the frame for a third mounting bolt. BUT....the internal frame construction doesn't allow the nut on a stick to pass under the existing reinforcements for the bolts that mount the steering gear to the frame. Nut is way too thick to pass under the internal tubing in the frame from manufacturer (AMC).

This was instilled on a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 truck. I watched your video online with this exact model truck and the words I remember most was “and we did not have to do any trimming”. Well my truck was certainly different than what was on video. Guess it’s because it’s a late build 2024 (end of September 2024) and the grill system was maybe what would appear on the 2025 models? There was lots of trimming involved. I also will tell you the mounting holes both for the frame and the bumper back plate did not line up and required some modifications to fit. I would like to say this job is not for the faint of heart. I luckily have a mechanical/machinist background so was able to get the job done. Have not tested it yet but will be soon. Good luck to those of you who are planning on installing it yourself. Just remember it can be done. Just take your time.

The Blue Ox base plate for my 2015 Kia Soul is well manufactured and, with a little bit of mechanical skill, easy to install. It fit perfectly without issues. Brad from etrailer provides a step-by-step installation video that is outstanding and nicely guides through the process from beginning to end. I highly recommend this Blue Ox base plate from etrailer.

by:

Well the blue ox base plate actually fits my turbo engine. The Curt didn't fit as advertised.

by:

Super high quality baseplate for towing by Blue Ox. Instructions, videos, shipping (one day!) and overall experience was awesome. A bit pricey but their quality and the additional support by E Trailer cannot be beat! BTW (E Trailer) the baseplate fits three different Jeep configurations but did not call out the Recon package. After looking at other brands which showed there's to fit the 3 variations AND the Recon, I figured it would fit and it DID. You should definitely upgrade to include the Recon Edition.

lways great to shop at etrailer, especially the tech experts. Royce did an awesome job with our order. Everything fit perfectly and the help video provided the guidance I needed.

We installed the baseplate on our 2023 Encore GX AWD as well as the light harness and breakaway switch. A couple of items were incorrect but Royce corrected the issues with no problems.

Thanks again etrailer!

2019 Ford Ranger baseplate worked and fitted fine for me. 73 yrs old took me a couple hours but took many breaks. Younger could do it less than hour I'm sure.
Also works fine with my Blue Ox tow bar.

excellent service. When you need help just ask and they will do everything
in there power to help.Outstanding customer service is where they stand out to
me.They are all great people and they stand behind there product.

We bought a new tow car so needed a new base plate kit. Just like the first one we purchased for our old car this one shipped/arrived very quickly. The website made it easy in determining which one was needed. Customer Serve was the best. Not many companies follow up after delivery. I highly recommend.

by:

Some of Blue Ox's hardware should really be updated. Metric would be a start and a better quality of wired nuts. I have been routinely replacing the low quality hardware for better quality and fit.

by:

Best way to go when pulling a car behind your motor home.Easy hook up and
easy to handle. The folks were great at etrailer and the Blue Ox products are the best
products I have ever found.

by:

This Blue Ox baseplate was a perfect match for my 2017 Honda Fit. Workmanship is top quality. The manufacturer’s installation instructions were not particularly helpful, but etrailer’s online step by step installation video was outstanding. A trouble free installation thanks to eTrailer.

by:

Fits on the honda Fit as indicated. Unrelated to the baseplate, some pain to reassemble the all plastic honda nose.

by:

I have not yet installed this item but the quality is excellent as I expected. Also I have been very impressed with etrailers customer service and their product inventory.

by:

  • Can 2015 Honda Fit With Manual Transmission be Flat Towed Behind Motorhome
I took a look at the owner's manual for a 2015 Honda Fit and it states that if the vehicle has a manual transmission it CAN be flat towed; if it has an automatic transmission it cannot be flat towed behind a motorhome. There are a number of parts you're going to need in order to flat tow a '15 Fit with a manual transmission, starting with compatible base plates. I recommend the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit # RM-521569-5 because the brackets will be hidden away so the Fit can maintain...

  • Blue Ox Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2017 Honda Fit EX, Manual Transmission
Actually I prefer Blue Ox flat towing components over Roadmaster, but honestly they are both great ways to go and would work fine. I have found Blue Ox tow bars easier to connect to Blue Ox base plate kits than the Roadmaster equivalents. So for your 2017 Honda Fit with a manual transmission I would recommend the Blue Ox base plate kit # BX2261 and the Blue Ox tow bar part # BX7380. For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight...

  • Easiest Parts to Use to Flat Tow 2015 Honda Fit
Hey Mike, I really like the Blue Ox base plate kits like the # BX2261 that fits your 2015 Honda Fit as I have found they are the easiest to connect/disconnect. In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. One of the most popular compatible tow bars is the Blue Ox Avail # BX7420 which comes with safety cables. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground. For lighting you...

  • Time Required to Install Blue Ox Base Plate Kit BX2261
For a first-time base plate installer we estimate that the total time required to mount the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2261 to be a good 5 to 6 hours (half a day, let's call it). Our installers who have the benefit of having done this many times typically complete a base plate install in 2 or 3 hours.

  • Recommendations on Flat Towing a 2017 Honda Fit with a Manual Transmission.
According to the Owner's Manual, the 2017 Honda Fit is towable behind a motorhome if it has the manual transmission. The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) model cannot be flat towed. The base plate that I recommend for the Honda Fit is the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2261. The Blue Ox base plate is a custom fit piece that is hidden beneath the vehicle's body. Blue Ox also provides all the hardware needed. Blue Ox does state that the bumper fascia will have to be removed and some...

  • Can a 2015 Honda Fit Sport Automatic Be Flat-Towed With 4 Wheels on the Ground
According to one of our primary resources for flat-towing information, Roadmaster Engineering, the 2015 Honda Fit is flat towable. However, your new Fit owner's manual is the best place to check for any cautions or special requirements for flat-towing your exact version of the 2015 Fit Sport. We offer Roadmaster base plates for the manual transmission version of the 2015 Honda Fit Sport. That is their EZ4 Series Base Plate # RM-521569-4. • What Fuses Need to be Bypass or Removed Flat Towing a 2017 Honda Fit
After reviewing the owner's manual for your 2017 Honda Fit for extended towing you will need to remove the 20 amp accessory power socket and 7.5 amp ACC fuses on the interior fuse box. You will also will remove the 15 amp back up fuse located in the engine compartment fuse box. To make this process easier, I highly recommend adding the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass - 13" - 20-Amp Mini-Fuse # RM76511, the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass Switch for Towed Vehicle - (2) 20-Amp ATM Mini-Fuses...

  • Why Is A Fuse Bypass Required For Removing Fuses When Towing A 2017 Honda Fit
If you don't remove fuses prior to towing, there's a good chance that your car's battery will be drained by the time you reach your destination. A fuse bypass is never required but if you have to remove a fuse to tow your car, a bypass system makes the whole ordeal easier. To determine if you need to remove a fuse before towing, consulting your vehicle's owner's manual is where you start. I reviewed the owner's manual for your 2017 Honda Fit and for extended towing you will need to remove...

When it comes to deciding if any given vehicle can safely be flat towed with all wheels down that determination goes to the vehicle's manufacturer. According to my research a 2015 Honda Fit cannot be flat towed according to Honda.
