Video Transcript for 1-7/8" Hitch Ball Feature Review

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Curt 1 7/8 Inch Ball. Now this is with a One Inch Diameter Shank. Now this steel ball is gonna be a sturdy, great option for a trailer with a 1 7/8 inch coupler. Now it also has the one inch diameter. So when shopping for your ball mount, make sure that you are getting one with a one inch opening so it matches the diameter of the shank.

The shank length on this is 2 1/8 inch. So you also wanna make sure that it's going to have threads sticking out when you tighten up your ball to your ball mount. Speaking of tightening up the ball mount, it's gonna be important when you install this, which is pretty easy, to torque this to the proper specs. Now you can see this does include the nut and the lock washer here. You're simply going to put a wrench on this nice flat slotted part, and then tighten this down with a torque wrench to the proper specifications that the manufacturer recommends.

Now, it's very important to torque this down with the torque wrench. That way it's not too tight or too loose when towing. So if you don't have a torque wrench, we'll sell those here at etrailer, or you can rent one at an auto parts store, generally. But it's very important that you have this torqued properly And that way you know, that this isn't going to wobble loose when you're towing something. Now the steel construction has a nice chrome finish on it.

So it looks really good. Now, sometimes when you hook up to your trailer, it's good to put a little bit of grease here, and that's going to maintain that chrome appearance for a long time. Now, as far as the weight rating goes, this is good for 3,500 pounds, which is a decent amount of weight. So before hooking up to your trailer and towing, you're also gonna wanna make sure that the rest of components are up to snuff with that weight rating. And that includes your ball mount, your hitch, and also your vehicle.

Now you wanna take the lowest number out of all of those and stick with that when towing and that way you're not overdoing it. And that was a look at the Curt 1 7/8 Inch Ball with the One Inch Diameter Shank. Thanks for watching..

Product and pricing excellence is what etrailer is all about. They bakc it all up with great customer support. thanks etrailer.

by:

Smooth, no defects, wrench knotches on base of ball, awesome feature. Many don't have that. Very solid. Fits snug in a one inch hitch hole.

by:

Not too often you need a 1-7/8 ball in the fatter 1" diameter shank, but I did and it works as expected!

by:

I have purchased several of etrailer's products. There staff is very helpful and courteous. The video are very helpful for explaining how it all works and give one an insight as to what to look for when installing one of their products. I recommend e-trailer to every one who I know that needs trailer and or trailer parts. Good Job etrailer.com

by:

I've always been happy with Curt products, this new ball seems to be no exception. It's exactly what I needed to complete my transformation from a class II hitch to a class III.

by:

The product was perfect. My compliment is for etrailer. Awesome people. Advice to users: watch the videos first. Also, I had to get a different drawbar because [rental trailer] needs the ball to be 18" off the ground and I only had 9". I installed this by myself on my sedan in about an hour; car was on the street, not elevated, and in the rain. Glad THAT is over.

by:

The products are well made and I look forward to using them. I only wish etrailer fulfillment would have asked a question of "is this ball for this receiver". Because being new to all of this, I ordered the wrong size ball for the receiver and it would have been GREAT to have a second set of eyes to see this. I know it's my issue.

by:

Nice hitch ball. Fits the trailer tongue hitch perfectly. Delivery in only 3 days.

by:

Perfect for my needs

by:

Expect it will be great

by:

Will buy again.

I called the customer
service line to ask questions about fitment and confirm I will receive the right products (ball mount, ball, and lock). They were EXCELLENT and if they weren't sure, they did the right research to confirm. Definitely worth buying from them.

by:

I was told about etrailer from an acquaintance. He said your prices were the best and your customer service was outstanding. After placing my order and receiving my products I have to say, I agree with him 100%! Ordered my items on Friday receive them on Monday... Good quality, fast delivery, fair price what else can I say! I will definitely refer etrailer and use your company in the future.

by:

Love my hitch! Gets me and my gear where I wanna go! Dylan really helped me get the perfect equipment for my 2012 Xterra. I am not super car smart but etrailer always gives me expert assistance.

by:

I have a 2015 Rav 4 and I ordered the wiring harness with the hitch, ball and receiver and it arrived the next day undamaged. I am happy with the quality of this product.

by:

Very happy with etrailer.com so far ( I haven't installed my hitch yet). Their service to date has been excellent. I am a trailer newbie, so needed help choosing the towing components. The 2 folks I spoke to at etrailer.com could not have been more helpful. They answered all my questions and help select the correct components I needed. Would definitely recommend!!!

by:

This fits our needs perfectly. My husband said it was easy to install. He is very happy.

Great!

by:

The Hitch is great. Unfortunately the locking device I purchased with the hitch will not work on the inside due to restrictions of barriers within the area that the pin is inserted. This should be noted for sales people when being ordered with a Tesla Y. I will use the locking device on the side of the hitch and a small lock through the pin in the inside area of the hitch.

by:

Hitch is great, easy install. Rusts a bit but that comes with the territory. I bought this because it was so helpful to have all solutions needed from the same company. I purchased with an after market hitch assembly for Ford Explorer.

by:

Trailer ball and wiring harness fit perfect...
Two
out of the 5 holes in the trailer hitch did not line up. One was about an 1/8" off and the other was over a 1/4" off. I went to my local Fastenal store and bought a carbide burr $28 and about an hour of elongating the holes, finely got the them to fit
Bought the Nissan Murano brand new about 8 months ago.
Not happy about the extra work it took to make it fit...

Great product! Fast delivery! Great customer service!

Well built and functions as expected

Amazing customer service as usual!I love your products, they are heavily road tested and working excellently! I got a friend to buy a trailer hitch too, since it was so easy!

by:

Made in China. Chrome plating wore off after 3rd trip to dump. Now looking for US made ball.

by:

I was impressed all the way around. The quality of the hitch, the accuracy of the order, and your tracker that you send out actually works, so I was able to know where my items were the entire step of the way! Thank you!

by:

Everything fit perfectly and it works as expected.

by:

I haven't had to chance to try it yet but it's mounted on the hitch and ready to go. It's well made and fit the hitch like a glove.

  • Will a 2" Hitch Ball Work w/ a 1-7/8" Coupler?
Nope, not at all. If your trailer's coupler is 1-7/8" you'll need to use a 1-7/8" hitch ball like the Curt item # C40002. This is a 1-7/8" hitch ball, that fits a 1" diameter hole in a ball mount, and has a 3,500 lbs capacity. What kind of a trailer and tow vehicle do you have?

  • Full Towing Set Up For A 2023 Ford Maverick Towing A Single Axle Trailer With Electric Brakes
Hi Jennifer! We can definitely get your 2023 Ford Maverick set up to tow a Scotty 130 single axle trailer. You will want to start with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C84BR. This is a bolt on, American made hitch that will be a pretty quick and easy install. The 2" receiver means you will have a lot of options available for accessories down the road as well. • Do I Need A Weight Distribution System To Tow A 2400lb Camper With My 2012 Jeep Wrangler?
Anytime your gross trailer weight is more than 50% of your vehicle's weight or if the rear of your vehicle sags when the trailer is hooked up you will want to use a weight distribution hitch. Since your camper weighs 2400lbs and is more than 50% of your 2012 Jeep Wrangler's estimated curb weight of 3760lbs, it is definitely recommended to use a weight distribution system. I recommend going with Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 4,500 lbs GTW, 450 lbs TW...

You will also need # C40002 for a 1-7/8" ball or # 63845 for a 2" ball. Just to be sure, I'm going to run through the process to measure for rise/drop. The first thing you need to measure is the hitch height. With the tow vehicle parked on level ground, measure from the ground to the top of your hitch...

The channel on the # C28KR is too narrow to fit on the Curt Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # C99NR (45935) shank. What you can use instead is the Ball Mount Adapter for Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Weight Distribution Shank # BA-1. This has a 1" diameter hole so you can use a hitch ball like the # C40002.

  • Weight Distribution With Anti-Sway For 2001 Coleman Utah Pop-Up Camper
Hi Bill, From what I could find, your 2001 Coleman Utah pop-up camper has a 2,500 lb GVWR (though do please verify that), and based on that you can go with the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0450 This is for tongue weights up to 450 lbs so it is properly rated and offers very good sway control, created by friction at two points on the brackets. So what the Fastway will do is give you a more controlled (and safer) towing experience. The only other thing...

Hi Daniel; that information is a good start and with a little more I can help you find the best ball mount to tow a U-Haul trailer. Based on how low the 2020 Kona sits I'm sure you need a ball mount with a few inches of rise. To find the right rise/drop you're going to need two measurements, the hitch height and the coupler height. If you can measure from the ground (level ground) to the top of your hitch receiver opening that is what I need. You can see this in the help article attached...

Hi Hugh, You can 100% use the Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 2753 with its 2-3/4" rise measurement even if you need a 3" rise. It's pretty rare to get the literal exact amount of rise/drop with a ball mount as there's so many different things that can raise/lower the measurement by even just a bit (tire inflation, if you're on completely level ground, etc.), so within 1/4" is perfectly acceptable. The # 2753 includes a pin and clip so the only other thing you'd need is the 1-7/8" hitch ball,...

In addition you will need a hitch ball with a 1" shank, the 1-7/8" # C40002, 2" # 40083, or 2-5/16" # C40005. I included a video of the # C45901 for you to take a look at.
