What Is The Difference Between The Pin Box GH-8071 And GY76PR?

Updated 09/08/2025 | Published 09/01/2025

Question:

What is the difference between this pin box and the GH-8071 found on the Gen Y website and 2025 catalog? Ive got a 2022 Grand Design Momentum 398M that I am looking to replace with a Gen Y hitch, but I cant figure out if these are the same hitch. It appears the Rhino Box version is what I need for this rig with a 20k GVWR. Thanks.

Hi Clif!

The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 30,000 lbs - 6.5K TW # GY76PR is the same thing as the GH-8071. We just changed the part number for our website as it was too similar to something else we carry and this was an easier way to differentiate the two.

One thing to note though, the above Gen-Y pin box is rated for a pin weight range of 4,500 pounds to 6,500 pounds, so it may be a bit overrated (it looked like the typical hitch/pin weight of a 2022 Grand Design Momentum 398M when loaded is 2,980 pounds). If it is, you may want to consider the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 30,000 lbs # GY78GR. This has the same 30k towing capacity, but has a lower pin weight rating of 2,500 pounds to 4,500 pounds.

Out of curiosity, what vehicle and hitch will you be towing this with?

@ClifL Nice! B&W has long been my go-to for 5th wheel hitches as they are the best ones on the market, at lest in my opinion. Have fun out there and let me know if there is anything else I can help with!
