Will Additional Length of Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box Impact Clearance

Question:

This hitch extends 3.75inch farther than the rhino pin box from center of king pin to center of first set of mounting holes at the RV. Is this going to cause a clearance issue with the pickup box when turning?

Hi Blake; the additional 3-3/4" will actually increase clearance since the trailer will sit a little further back. If it was shorter and brought it closer to the cab clearance would become a concern. The # GY43GR is the 5.5k tongue weight model so make sure your GVWR x 0.22 = 3,600-4,599 lbs. If you have a different calculation you will need a different model and can choose from the following:

-Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 21,000 lbs - 3.5K TW # GY86GR (1,600-2,599 lbs)

-Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 30,000 lbs - 4.5K TW # GY78GR (2,600-3,599 lbs)

-Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert Rhino - 30,000 lbs - 6.5K TW # GY76PR (4,600-5,599 lbs)

Yes pickup cab clearance will improve. But the sides of pickup box will be closer to the RV pin box when turning sharply. I might make a template to set on fifth wheel hitch to check clearance to the box side.
