This hitch is designed for serious towing jobs, rated for 21,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 4,000 lbs vertical load limit. The sturdy steel build and rust-resistant black powder coat finish help it stay solid and dependable over long miles. With three height settings—15-1/2", 17-1/4", and 18"—you can fine-tune your setup to get level towing and good bed rail clearance for your trailer.
The wraparound, single-piece jaw completely surrounds the king pin for full 360-degree contact. That tight connection minimizes rattle and chucking compared to slide-bar jaws, giving you a smoother, quieter ride. A 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar reinforces the front of the jaw for extra security. It automatically locks into place when the jaw closes so you can hook up fast and roll out knowing the trailer is secure.

The double-pivot head lets the hitch move both front to back and side to side, so it naturally follows the trailer over uneven ground. Built-in polyurethane dampeners cushion those movements and help absorb road shock for a smoother ride. The head also self-aligns during hookup—no fighting the angle or forcing it into place—making it easy to connect even when the ground isn’t perfectly level.

When you’re done towing, you can pull this hitch out in two lightweight pieces without tools. The base attaches directly to a 2-5/16" gooseneck ball from the included underbed installation kit. Pop out the Recon hitch when you want a clear bed for hauling, or flip the gooseneck ball upside down into its hole for a flat surface. A rubber cover keeps dust and debris out until your next trip.

The included underbed kit is actually Curt’s Double Lock gooseneck hitch, giving you flexibility to tow either a fifth wheel or a gooseneck trailer from the same setup. It’s rated for 30,000 lbs gross towing weight and a 7,500 lbs tongue weight with a 2-5/16" ball size. That means one install covers both jobs—long hauls with your fifth wheel or heavy-duty utility towing when work calls.

This fifth-wheel hitch is not compatible with rotating pin boxes.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter. This has a 21,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this part will replace just the base assembly that's on the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter, which is part number DM8550045. Now that adapter, we do sell separately on our website. Now this is just for the base assembly.
It does not include the hitch head. The hitch head bolts to this center post here. The hitch head, we do sell separately. It's part number DM6169. The center post right here that the hitch head attaches to, has three different height settings to fit your application.
And the hitch height is critical 'cause when you go to tow your fifth wheel, you do wanna make sure you're towing as level as possible. And hitch height is always measured from the top of the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. And now the hitch height settings on this center post, there's three holes in it. So it gives you a selection of three different hitch height settings. Either a 15-and-a-half inch, 17-and-a-quarter-inch or 18-inch hitch height setting.
You just pick the one that works best for your application. Now, this base also, when you do install this over the gooseneck ball, it does give you a three-inch offset for extra clearance of your fifth wheel. It is is a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice rust-resistant black powder coat finish on it. And it is a quick, simple installation.
Basically, this just installs over the gooseneck ball and it's held in place with the pin and clip. And also these two set screws right up front here. This part is made in the USA and again, the gross towing weight capacity on this base assembly is 21,000 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the Replacement Base Assembly for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter..

Excellent hitch to date and still very happy. Have pulled my fifth wheel around the country with zero issues. I see people with $1800 hitches that have minor slop and problems hooking up at minor funny angles. This hitch is strong, simple, and very secure. No slop.

I have a solution to your issue. The bag with the bolt and nut for the hitch handle should have came with a small round dampener that stops the hitch head from flopping back and forth in the truck. The urethane compresses under a load so it does not restrict the fore and aft movement when coupled. Before you attach the hitch head to the saddle assembly the dampener will need to be installed. Simply press it into the hole that is punched into the bottom side of the hitch as shown in Figure A of the instructions: https:cdn.demco-products.comdocumentsHJ26169.pdf

Pretty good. Still rotating a little. I tightened the main bolt to the ball more than the 30lbs. It’s not rotating as much as it has been. Still haven’t figured out if or where I would drill a hole for a bolt to go in. I’m not really wanting to do that yet.
