Before you roll out, you can instantly see if the hitch is ready to uncouple, couple, or tow—thanks to Curt’s color-coded lock indicator system. Red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means you’re locked in for towing. The indicators are visible from the cab, so you don’t have to climb into the bed to double-check your connection. When you finish uncoupling, the handle automatically resets to the ready-to-couple position for next time.
The spherical axial bearing in the hitch head gives it a full 360-degree pivot range that helps suppress road shock and reduce chucking noise. It self-aligns as you back in for coupling and delivers a quieter, more stable ride once you’re on the move. That torsion head design keeps the trailer tracking smoothly behind you and takes some of the strain out of long-distance hauls.
The included S25 slider makes slow-speed turns safer and easier by providing 12 inches of fore-and-aft travel. It automatically latches in both directions and won’t bind when adjusting under load. When maneuvering into tight spots or backing around corners, the added clearance helps prevent contact between the trailer and cab during sharp turns.
This hitch is built with real-world use in mind—installation is straightforward using the included base rails and mounting kit. Two built-in zerk fittings make lubrication simple, while the fast 1-pin head removal allows one person to lift off the head without tools. Combined with the included plastic lube plate that helps the king pin glide in smoothly, setup and removal are quick and efficient every time.

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt Universal 5th Wheel Base Rails with the installation kit in a carbide black finish. These base rails will provide a solid mounting point for your 5th wheel hitch. The universal L-shape brackets here will fit nearly any application. They are semi-custom brackets that can be used to ease installation on certain vehicles. All the parts are protected by a highly durable carbide powder coat finish. They are inaudible 00:00:24 in a rust resistant liquid bonderite coating. Now, this part is compatible with most 5th wheel hitches, rollers and goose neck adapters by Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley, and Husky.
Complete kit includes everything shown here, the two base rails themselves, the 4 L-shaped universal brackets, all the mounting hardware, and a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install everything. Shipping was fast for box 2/2. I believe I placed my order on June 30th and box 2/2 was delivered on July 2nd. Unfortunately box 2/2 was the only box that I had a tracking number for so I had to call etrailer. Even though this was an inconvenience the lady was super nice and helpful and ensured me box 1/2 would be at my home by the 6th of July and it was. The legs fit perfectly into the 2021 Ram puck system and was almost to easy to believe it was done correctly. The rest of the hitch bolted directly into place as described. I am more than happy with this product and for how easy it is to use it is definitely worth the price.
I haven't used the hitch yet, but while installing it I noticed:
1) the 4 bolts which connect the hitch head to its legs, or base boxes, are a smaller diameter than the 8 bolts that hold the pin box onto my 40' 5th wheel trailer, and
2) when mounting the legs into the 5th wheel prep package on my 2019 F350, I found that a snug adjustment is not possible, because of one or both of these design choices: a) coarse thread bolts are used here (vs. fine thread), and/or b) there is only one hole through each of the 4 base mounting bolts for the cotter pin to go through, so the castle nuts can only be made tighter or looser by turning the nut 1/6th of a revolution.
This means that when you lock the hitch down by rotating the handles 90 degrees, that the locked-in position either feels too loose or too tight because 1/6th of a revolution of the nut is too much. If these bolts had a 2nd hole in them (or were fine thread) that would allow a 1/12th of a nut rotation adjustment. Smaller nut height adjustment would also mean a much greater potential of being able to adjust the locking levers to a firm pressure setting.
This is my first run-in with a fifth wheel, so I spent a lot of time researching as many of the aspects as I could. I knew I didn't want to mount bed rails, so the truck was outfitted with the factory in-bed mounts. That allowed the use of this hitch. Using this setup allows for a clear bed floor by merely unpinning and swiveling the four locks on the leg's ends, then lifting the whole mess up and away.
It arrived in two separate boxes: good thing, it's heavy! Knowing that, the individual pieces were placed in the bed where it could be assembled closer to its landing place. The instructions were very clear, and, before we knew it, we had the mount dropped into place.
Connecting to the trailer couldn't be easier. With the lever forward and the yellow dot showing through the status port in front, the truck slides back into place with a satisfying "chunk" as the hitch latches on. Drop the safety pin into the latch, make your connects, give one final tug with the tow vehicle so you know the hitch is properly latched, and off you go! Thanks, etrailer!
So here's my thoughts after installing this unit. First, the unit is made in the USA (according to their website) but al the bolts used are metric. Second, the installation instructions are generic and are mostly for a fixed hitch versus the sliding hitch, so you have to guess on assembly of some items. Also, you pay close to $[XX] for this unit and they go cheap and do not provide any lubricating grease that "they" recommend you apply. $[XX] purchase and could not include 10 cents worth of grease. Finally, the torque specs are listed but the bolt locations are not shown with pictures, just a name which you need to guess. This can be problematic since the torque specs range from 60 ft lbs up to 200ft lbs. Choose the wrong one and you break a bolt off.
